NOT HIS FIRST RODEO
An Arlington, Texas, man only thought he was
prepared for an encounter with law enforcement
while he was trafficking drugs early last month,
but he was proven wrong.
Son Bui, 48, was charged December 7 with
trafficking marijuana in Garvin County District
Court.
According to Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics
(OBN), on the evening of December 6, OBN K9
Interdiction Agents attempted to stop a driver
traveling southbound on Interstate 35 for a traffic violation. The driver, identified as Bui, initially refused to pull over and appeared to be attempting to
deploy spikes designed to deflate the tires of the pursuing OBN Agents. Bui
was eventually stopped and a search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure
of 162 pounds of black market marijuana being trafficked to Texas. Bui was
transported and booked into the Garvin County Jail. Bond was set at $25,000.

Trailer got trashed
Video of a wild police car chase in Missouri involving a driver towing a house has gone viral.
The Excelsior Springs Police Department released the footage in November of Sgt. Kyle Craven in pursuit of an unknown
male motorist driving erratically on Thanksgiving night.
The motorist went 30 mph with the 70-foot long mobile home attached to his
truck that Craven said looked like ‘he was gonna live in it.’ Officers attempted to
deflate his tires by laying stop sticks on the road, but they were not fast enough,
and the driver kept on cruising down US Route 69.
The 35-mile car chase ended after the driver with his mobile home crashed
while attempting to make a sharp left turn at Cameron Road in Mosby. Craven
said he thought the driver was drunk since his driving was so erratic, with his
vehicle veering into the middle of the lanes.
When the driver attempted the left turn he hit a stop sign, giving police the
chance to apprehend him.
Multiple police officers arrested him right in front of the mobile home, and
seemingly had fun doing it - especially the officers who shared high fives after he
was taken away by other cops.
The driver now now faces multiple traffic violation charges, but officers have
not clarified what those charges are.
If he was driving intoxicated, as Craven and other police officers thought, he
could possibly face a DWI (driving while intoxicated) charge, which is a Class B
misdemeanor in Missouri.
However, it can also lead to a maximum of six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.
We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money
or favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting officer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.
Thank you and God Bless

6 | JANUARY 2024 Presumed Innocent Until Proven Guilty LOVE COUNTY
FROM THE SHERIFF
On December 7, members of our office along
with the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and the
Marietta Police Department served a search warrant at a suspected illegal Marijuana Grow operation on Courtney Road in the western portion of
Love County.
During the operation it was discovered that the
grow was in fact operating illegally. Subsequently,
approximately 14,000 plants in various stages of
growth were seized and destroyed.
A big thank you to our partners at the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and the
Marietta Police as well as County Barns District #2 and #3 for helping dispose of
the plants. As they say it takes a village and I am thankful for our partnerships in
the County and the State of Oklahoma.

RECKLESS
An Ardmore resident has been sentenced for
Involuntary Manslaughter in the death of a man
he recklessly shot.
Jonathan Ray Higginbotham, Jr., 23, was
sentenced to 33 months in prison for one count
of Involuntary Manslaughter in Indian Country.
The charges arose from investigations by the
City of Ardmore Police Department, the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, and the Federal
Bureau of Investigation.
On May 18, 2022, Higginbotham was found guilty by a federal jury at trial
of Involuntary Manslaughter in Indian Country.
At trial, the United States presented evidence that on January 19, 2021,
Higginbotham fired a 9mm Hi-Point carbine, hitting Ardmore resident George
Powell IV. EMS responders transported the victim to an area hospital where
he later died of his injuries. Higginbotham fled and was apprehended on September 23, 2021.
The crime occurred in Carter County, within the boundaries of the Chickasaw Nation Reservation, in the Eastern District of Oklahoma.
Higginbotham will remain in the custody of the U.S. Marshal pending transportation to a designated United States Bureau of Prisons facility to serve a
non-paroleable sentence of incarceration. JERRY

How the Grinch stole Christmas
A Clay County, Fla., man is facing charges after
deputies say he fired a gun six times near the Middleburg Christmas Parade.
According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the 4100
block of County Road 218, which is located along the parade route, after hearing several gunshots fired from the area.
When deputies arrived, they found several people yelling at the suspect, identified as Douglas Moore, 43, who was standing at the property line. The people
were demanding to know why Moore shot at them, an arrest report states.
No injuries were reported as a result of the gunfire, according to deputies.
Moore was told to get on the ground but refused, the report states. Moore was
then taken down by deputies after refusing to comply.
Deputies detained four individuals involved. Moore was ultimately placed under arrest following witness interviews and a review of the evidence.
The investigation revealed that Moore, a resident of a nearby property near
the incident location, became agitated by the activities stemming from parade
attendees and discharged a pistol multiple times while entering the property
where the victims were located.
While he was being read his Miranda Rights, deputies observed Moore speaking with slurred speech and had bloodshot and watery eyes, according to the
report.
As a result of the investigation, Moore was charged with six counts of aggravated assault with a firearm, reckless discharge of a firearm, and using a firearm
while under the influence of alcohol.
“I am thankful for the quick response by the deputies who ran towards the
sound of gunfire to keep our community safe,” Sheriff Michelle Cook said in the
post.

On October 18, 2023, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office in the State of Washington requested

I WON'T BE HOME
FOR CHRISTMAS
A report of a possible prowler in Goldsby resulted in the apprehension of an Oklahoma City man
who was in possession of drugs and a stolen car.
Devin Yanell was taken into custody and
charged with eluding/attempting to elude police
officers and aggravated trafficking in illegal drugs
in Garvin County. No charges have been filed as
of press time in McClain County.
According to the McClain County Sheriff’s Office, on Christmas Day, a McClain
County deputy was called to the town of Goldsby on the report of a possible
prowler. As he patrolled the area, he spotted a vehicle matching the description
reported. He followed the vehicle southbound on I-35 until other police units
showed up to assist. At that point, the driver of the vehicle, later identified as
Yandell, decided to run for it. A chase ensued and stop-sticks were deployed on
Highway 74 in Garvin County. When Yandell ran over the sticks, his vehicle came
to a stop and he ran from the scene on foot.
A K9 and a drone were used to locate Yandell, but initially, it was unsuccessful.
When Yandell was finally located, officers found 30 grams of fentanyl in
his possession. He was taken to the Garvin County jail and slapped with an
$100,000 bond.
