LUCKY
What started out as a single misdemeanor offense, quickly escalated into the addition of a
felony charge after a Lindsay woman grabbed
an officer’s family jewels during a DUI traffic
stop early last month.
Elizeth Ramos-Cardenas, 32, was charged Feb. 6 with assault and battery
on a police officer and aggravated DUI in Garvin County District Court.
According to court information, on February 3, Ramos-Cardenas was driving her white SUV in Pauls Valley while under the influence of alcohol. A Pauls
Valley Police Officer, suspecting she was under the influence of something,
administered a breathalyzer test, which revealed her blood-alcohol level was
.15 or higher, well over the legal limit.
During her arrest, Ramos-Cardenas felt the need to retaliate and grabbed
the officer by the genitals, which earned her a felony charge.
Ramos-Cardenas was escorted to the Garvin County Jail and her bond
was set at $10,000. Her preliminary Hearing is scheduled for March 17- how
lucky can you get?

March is National Youth Violence
Prevention Month
The National Association of Students
Against Violence Everywhere is a nonprofit
aiming to provide safer environments for
our youth. Its mission is to decrease the
potential for violence in our schools and
communities by promoting meaningful student involvement, education and service
opportunities.
SAVE’s Vision: Schools and communities will be safer and more secure, free of
fear and conducive to learning as a result of
students being actively involved in meaningful violence prevention efforts.
How It Got Started: SAVE was started by students in Charlotte, North Carolina in 1989 after the tragic death of a classmate who was trying to break up a
fight at an off-campus party. A group of students who did not want this death
to be “just another statistic” took action and created a violence prevention
program.
Chapters: SAVE has evolved into a national association with chapters in
elementary, middle and high schools as well as at colleges and community organizations across the country. Today, there are more than 200,000 students
involved nationwide.
Activities: Student members take the lead in planning chapter activities by
using the three SAVE Essential Elements: conducting crime prevention activities, conducting conflict management activities and providing meaningful service through projects in schools and communities. SAVE chapters also plan
safety rallies and safety awareness campaigns, engage in peer mentoring to
younger students, and conduct fun and educational meetings.

SULPHUR TEACHER
FACING DRUG
CHARGES
A Sulphur teacher was placed on administrative leave after he was arrested on drug charges
in January.
According to reports, a state trooper stopped
Andrew Craig Swartz, 37, for speeding in Washita County. During the traffic stop, the trooper noticed that the man smelled
like alcohol.
Due to the smell of booze, the trooper searched Swartz’s vehicle. He found
a jar of marijuana in the center console. He also found $3,606 in cash in the
passenger floorboard and in the backseat, he found 46 pounds of packaged
marijuana.
Swartz allegedly told the trooper that he was legally selling the weed to a
medical marijuana dispensary. Reports state that while Swartz does have a
current marijuana transport license, he didn’t have the proper paperwork that
was required for each shipment.
Swartz is being charged with trafficking in illegal drugs and speeding in
excess of the lawful maximum limit in Washita County. His bond was set at
$50,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on April 11, 2023.

ATTACK
An 18-year-old student at Kingston High
School is facing assault charges after he allegedly threw a phone at a teacher on February
13.
According to reports, the teacher sent Alec
James McQueary to the principal’s office because the teacher asked him to
remove his hat, and McQueary started acting out. He reportedly threw some
stuff to the ground and cussed at the teacher.
McQueary ran out of the office. As he did, he threw his phone at the teacher, hitting the teacher in the face.
The teacher fell to the ground and was taken to the hospital to be treated
for injuries.
McQueary is being charged with assault and battery on a school employee. He was released on a personal recognizance bond and is scheduled to
appear in court on April 21, 2023.

FLIPPING OUT
A high-speed chase came to an
end when the driver rolled his vehicle and was transported to the
hospital when he became unresponsive.
According to reports, a Purcell
police officer saw a vehicle speeding in the 2200 block of North
Green at approximately 7:16 a.m.
on February 16. The driver was
going 60 mph in a 45 mph posted
zone. The officer tried to stop the
vehicle, but the driver, later identified as Coltyn Daniel Wayne Harrison, accelerated and took the I-35 on ramp at
mile marker 95 northbound.
Harrison weaved in and out of traffic and reached speeds of 100 mph.
As the driver neared mile marker 99, it appeared as if he was going to stop.
The officer pulled in behind Harrison’s vehicle, but Harrison took off again.
At mile marker 101, the officer advised dispatch that he was going to terminate the pursuit.
Fate had other plans.
At about the same time, Harrison took the Ladd Road exit at a high rate of
speed. He lost control of the vehicle, and the vehicle rolled over.
Officers pulled the man from the vehicle. Harrison soon became unresponsive,
and he was transported to a hospital to be treated for his injuries.
Harrison is being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance - marijuana, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, driving with license canceled/suspended/revoked, and reckless driving. He was released on
a personal recognizance bond and is scheduled to appear in court on March 9,
2023.

On March 7, Oklahoma voters will have a say on whether or not to legalize
recreational marijuana use with SQ 820 on the ballot. If this question passes,
how do you think this will affect crime in our state? Should driving under the
influence of drugs become a felony? Should those convicted of misdemeanor
marijuana charges in the past be cleared?
Let us hear your opinion!
Misttina B: Colorado crime rate skyrocketed after legalizing marijuana. It should
be treated like any other mind altering substance for DUI.
Rockey L: Yes, it should be felony for driving under the influence of drugs and
for those whom had misdemeanors for marijuana charges should not be cleared
as they knew they were breaking the law at the time they were caught.
April F: Rockey Lee the part that makes it a felony or misdemeanor is the fact
of how many charges you prior or if your caught with a large amount..it is really no
difference than DUI with alcohol
Monkeys P: I don’t think it will affect crime but we need it to pass. We need the
jail space for violent criminals. It should have already become federally legal . It is
not deadly like tobacco and alcohol
Rockey L: Monkeys P Just like cigarettes marijuana can cause emphasima and
copd which can be deadly and alcohol is deadly when consumed and you get
behind the wheel of a car. So where do you draw the line ?
Robbie W: Driving under the influence of anything that visibly impaired you driving should be a felony in the first place. I really don’t think it will effect crime. It might
drop from fewer marijuana arrests. And all you can hope for is that these people
strung out on worse drugs choose pot because it’s legal.
Jerry K: I’m trying to figure this out. Last vote, it was said that this is a needed
medicine for some people. Now some are wanting to use it recreationally. What
other medicine do we do that with??? I don’t remember the last time I took a anti-biotin for a fun Saturday night. Look at what it did to Colorado.
Robbie W: Jerry K alcohol
Jerry K: Alcohol is not used as medicine unless you are talking rubbing alcohol.
Maria M: Man marijuana is not a drug in the first place it is and always has been
a plant. So no it shouldn’t be a felony for that worry about the drunk drivers alcohol is legal and more people get killed by drunk drivers than anything else. Really
have you heard of any wrecks where they smoked??? And yes so many people
have been punished harshly for smoking a plant that is natural. It is time for our
society to open their eyes and see this plant is helping people with their mental
and physical issues.
