missouri murder suspect located in pauls valley
A Missouri man wanted for murder was taken
into custody after a cellphone ping located his
whereabouts in Pauls Valley.
Reports state Billy Sage Medley, 22, was the last
of four men arrested in connection with the shooting deaths of a Tunas, Missouri, couple on their
front porch on September 30.
“It appears that during the early morning hours
[September 30], the homeowners interrupted an
attempted robbery/invasion. The homeowners engaged in a gun battle with the intruders, resulting
in the loss of their lives,” the Dallas County Sheriff’s
Office stated.
The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office was able to
locate Medley in Pauls Valley by pinging his cellphone. After contacting the Pauls Valley Police, officers were dispatched to the 500 block of S. Kerr
Avenue. Four people were in the home, including
Medley.
According to a probable cause affidavit, a woman
inside the home, Athena Venable, 19, who claimed
she was Medley’s girlfriend, said she knew about
Medley’s involvement in the murders and burglary
at the Missouri residence. She added she knew
he was wanted by authorities after seeing a news
broadcast about him in Missouri. She and “another
man” helped get money for Medley by selling firearms, of which she was present, and then travelled
with him across the border into Oklahoma.
Medley and Venable were taken into custody and booked into the Garvin
County Detention Center.
Venable was charged in Garvin County District Court with harboring a fugitive from justice. Her bond was set at $50,000 and she is schedule to next
appear in court on November 16, at 2 p.m.
Medley has since been extradited back to Missouri to face murder charges.

AG Hunter Calls on the FCC to Adopt New Rules to
Crack Down on Robocalls and Sca m Phone Calls
Attorney General Mike Hunter and a bipartisan coalition of 34 state attorneys general have sent a letter
to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC),
calling on the commission to adopt new rules to allow telephone service providers to block robocalls and
scam phone calls before they reach consumers.
The added authority sought by the attorneys general
will allow service providers to use new technology to
detect and block illegal robocalls – even those coming
from what appear to be legitimate, local phone numbers. Service providers will be ready to launch this new authentication method in
2019.
Attorney General Hunter said the Consumer Protection Unit in his office received
over 4,000 phone calls in the last year regarding phone scams, more than half of
all the calls the unit received.
“Illegal robocalls are irritating and disconcerting, and phone scammers are successfully able to steal personal information, leaving Oklahomans susceptible to
identity theft,” Attorney General Hunter said. “It is time to take more action and give
service providers more tools in order for them to protect consumers from these
scams. I appreciate my colleagues for continuing this fight to protect our families,
neighbors and loved ones across the Unites States. Working together with state
partners, the federal government and law enforcement personnel, we will find a
way to end these calls and give Oklahomans protection and peace of mind.”
In the formal comment sent to the FCC, attorneys general write about the difficulty of enforcement efforts and why more authority needs to be given to service
providers.
“Our respective Consumer Protection Offices receive and respond to tens of
thousands of consumer complaints each year concerning the disruptive and abusive nature of these calls,” the letter reads. “We then attempt to identify and target
potential wrongdoers. However, it is common for our efforts to be frustrated, as
these types of calls travel through a maze of smaller providers. If the calling party is
found at all, he or she is most often located overseas, making enforcement difficult.
Due to the nature of this problem, investigations and enforcement actions cannot
serve as the sole solution.”
Attorneys general also explain how scammers have found ways around the Call
Blocking Order the FCC implemented last year. Despite new authority given to
service providers, which increased their ability to block robocalls, the problem is
still getting worse.
Last year, reports reflect that American landline and wireless subscribers received an estimated 30.5 billion illegal robocalls, up from the 2016 estimate of
29.3 billion calls, attorneys general write. By the end of this year, industry experts
estimate more than 40 billion robocalls to be made to consumers.
First Orion, a tech company that provides phone carriers and their customers
caller ID and call blocking technology, predicts nearly half of all cellphone calls next
year will come from a scammer.
Attorney General Hunter was joined on the comment by the attorneys general
of Arizona, Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Illinois,
Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico,
New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island,

Oklahoma Attorney General Mike Hunter has
filed three felony charges on an Ardmore man after an undercover investigation into the sharing of
child pornography.
The result of the investigation led authorities to
Lance Gilley, 38, who has been charged with one
count of distribution of child pornography, one
count of possession of child pornography and one
count of violating the state’s computer crimes act.
“Crimes against children are intolerable and my
office is committed to doing all we can to stop this
horrific crime,” Attorney General Hunter said. “I applaud the work and the commitment to collaboration between state, federal and local law enforcement agencies to bring
these charges and hold this individual accountable. Our continued work
together is vital to keeping Oklahomans safe.”
The investigation was undertaken earlier this year by the Attorney General’s Office, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, the Office of
Homeland Security and the Carter County Sheriff’s Office.
If convicted, Gilley faces prison time, fines and fees.

More than 100,000 children and youth
in the U.S. foster care system are awaiting permanent families. National Adoption
Month is a time to raise awareness about
the adoption of children and youth from
foster care.
The Children’s Bureau in partnership
with AdoptUSKids and Child Welfare Information Gateway sponsors the initiative
each November as a way to focus public
attention on the urgent need for adoptive families for children and youth
waiting in foster care for a permanent family. This year’s focus, “Partnering for Permanency,” builds on the social media theme from last year. A
special web page on Information Gateway’s website helps child welfare
professionals, prospective adoptive parents, and youth partner for permanency. The website contains resources, stories, and videos on topics such
as getting started with social media, how to build a recruitment campaign,
and how social media impacts child welfare and adoption. The website
can be found at http://www.childwelfare.gov/adoption/nam/.

14 | NOVEMBER 2018 MURRAY COUNTY Presumed Innocent Until Proven Guilty
A South Carolina man was caught rubbing buttered toast all over his
neighbor’s SUV window. Seems like a foolproof plan, how did he get
caught? According to MSN, He just dropped the toast a few feet away
from the car and made his departure, causing a nearby woman to notice and call the police. The police charged the now hungry man with
“malicious damage to property” and estimated the cost of damage to
be about $1.
What’s the hottest you’ve ever been? Temperature-wise of course, because if it was in physical terms, we all know we were the hottest at our
5th grade, bowl-cut, chubs stage. But really, to what extent would you
go to cool off?
Hopefully not so far you’d get arrested, but this is exactly what a group
of four young men in Germany did. On a hot day, they decided to make
their own pool in a car. In a BMW no less. A policeman noticed a very
strange convertible driving down the road. Upon closer viewing, it appeared that the bathing-suit clad men were splashing around in the water-filled car, clearly intoxicated. Though there was no law against driving
around with a pool in someone’s car, they were probably charged for
driving without a permit. Talk about hot water.
What do you guys think about sausage? I suppose it’s better than a
hot dog, which in turn is better than bologna (which is basically giant hot
dog slices?). And no matter what, it has to be better than Lunchables
*shudder*.
No matter your opinion, sausage was a huge disappointment for this
Phoenix man. He attempted to rob two large businesses, first an Ace
Hardware and then a Safeway. He put his hand under his shirt to look
like a gun, but the cashier was not fooled and calmly said “no” to his request for money. Equally unsuccessful was his attempt to rob a Safeway,
which resulted in him being escorted out of the building. He waited a few
minutes before returning into the store to snag a small breakfast sausage
and was therefore charged with shoplifting. I guess all that failing worked
up an appetite.
Sometimes people don’t want their babies. Throughout history, these
people have found convenient ways to get rid of them. In the middle
ages, a popular solution was to leave a swaddled infant on the doorstep
of a misfortunate new parent. Worse for the child, another option was an
orphanage. In later times, parents could even put their kid in the circus
for life. The last one, I’m actually jealous of.
It might not have been this Florida woman’s goal to give away her child,
but that’s sure what it looked like. She had gone shopping at Dillard’s,
and tried to shoplift $260 worth of clothing using her baby stroller. When
a police officer followed her out to her car, she flipped out and eventually threw her baby in its little carseat at him. The baby was not injured.
The shoplifter received three charges, including “resisting a police officer
without violence”. Um. What would be violent, throwing her entire family?

An Oklahoma game warden saved a Murray County deputy and himself when a man approached them with knives
on the evening of September 30.
Reports state the game warden was at the sheriff’s office to pick up some paperwork. He stopped to chat with a
deputy outside the building under a carport, who was preparing his patrol vehicle for his shift.
The game warden noticed a man walking toward them.
The suspect, later identified as 28-year-old Sulphur man
Calvin Lee Smith, was acting suspiciously as he approached
the game warden and deputy. The game warden observed
that Smith was trying to keep a wall between himself, the
game warden, and the deputy as he inched closer to the carport. The game warden walked toward the man and started talking to him. Smith pulled out a fixed
blade knife from his sheath and continued to approach the deputy. The game warden immediately took out his gun and ordered the man to drop the weapon. Smith
actually had two knives on his person. The deputy and game warden immediately
placed the man under arrest.
Apparently, the man had done something earlier that day that made him approach officers with knives even more scary.
Smith allegedly went into the sheriff’s department and told them that deputies
were easy targets – that didn’t turn out to be true.
Smith is being charged with assault with a dangerous weapon. His bond was
set at $30,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on October 29, 2018.
Smith locked up for approaching deputy with knives

Presumed Innocent Until Proven Guilty MARSHALL COUNTY 19 | NOVEMBER 2018
38-year-old Harold Andrew MacNeil is being held
without bond at the Marshall County Jail for allegedly shooting another man on October 2.
According to reports, Madill officers were dispatched to the 100 block of East Wolf Street at approximately 2:30 a.m. They found the victim lying in
bed with a single gunshot wound.
The man was still alive when officers found him,
but he passed away on the way to the hospital.
The suspect in the shooting, identified as MacNeil,
was not at the scene when police located the victim.
Around 7:30 a.m., they were advised about the
man’s whereabouts. They found him at his home north of Madill near
Carter Lake. After an hour-long standoff with police, MacNeil was taken
into custody and transported to jail.
At the time of the investigation, officers were unsure regarding a motive
that could have spurred the shooting, but MacNeil and the victim may
have been friends.
MacNeil is being charged with murder in the first degree with deliberate
intent. He is being held without bond and is scheduled to appear in court
on November 15, 2018.

We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money
or favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting officer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.
Thank you and God Bless
