Five arrested in Elmore
City home invasion
A man and his girlfriend, along with her sons
and their friend, are being charged in the home
invasion and stabbing of a man on August 2.
According to the affidavit, Garvin County
deputies were dispatched to a residence in Elmore City around 3:50 a.m. to investigate the
stabbing. When they arrived, the victim told
them he had been stabbed while inside his
residence.
The victim’s girlfriend told police two men
came to the house earlier that evening. While
they were there, a verbal altercation occurred
and the men left. One of them allegedly said,
“I’m coming back for you.”
The victim went to sleep on his couch with
a gun.
A short time later, the girlfriend woke up to
sounds of her boyfriend yelling. She discovered he had been stabbed. She told officers
she couldn’t find her phone or her boyfriend’s
phone.
At the scene, deputies discovered a large
amount of blood and some zip ties in the floor.
Using apps installed on the missing phones, officers located the devices in an apartment in
Murray County.
At the apartment, they met Justin Lynn
Strickland, 26, and Barbara Turner, 36. Turner’s
sons, 18-year-old Rashaad Antwun Watson
and 19-year-old Rashawn Anthony Watson, were also at the scene.
Officers searched the residence and found a container of zip ties matching the ones found at the scene of the crime. They also found one of the
missing phones in Rashawn Watson’s girlfriend’s car. Of course, all parties
present denied knowledge of why the phone was in the car.
The victim’s girlfriend later identified Strickland as one of the suspects.
Strickland then decided to ‘fess up. He told police the Watson brothers
and Tavis Timothy Wright, 20, were just supposed to rob the victim. He
said he and Turner were at the residence earlier that day to sell some pills.
An argument occurred, so they left and returned a bit later with Turner’s
sons and Wright. The Watsons and Wright went inside the residence.
Strickland said the men beat up the victim and stole some phones.
Further investigation led to the five suspects being arrested.
All suspects are being charged with conjoint robbery and conspiracy to
commit a felony. Wright has the additional charge of possession of firearm
after former felony conviction. Each of their bonds were set at $100,000,
and they are all scheduled to appear in court on September 21, 2018.

Commutation Campaign Seeks to Correct
Unjust Prison Sentences
Oklahomans for Criminal Justice Reform (OCJR) is announcing a commutation
campaign to help Oklahomans who are in
prison for offenses no longer carrying long
prison terms under reforms recently approved by voters and legislators. For the
rest of 2018, the campaign will assist several dozen incarcerated Oklahomans with
pursuing commutation, beginning with 23
women whose commutation applications
were advanced for further review by the Pardon and Parole Board on August 13.
Commutation is a common legal process used nationwide as well as in
Oklahoma to correct excessive, unjust sentences. Commutation modifies
sentences but does not erase convictions.
“This commutation campaign follows the will of voters and legislators to
begin fixing Oklahoma’s draconian criminal justice system. Oklahoma has
to look at all responsible options to alleviate its status as the most incarcerated state, and legal commutations like these are one of those options,”
said Sarah Edwards, a Crowe Dunlevy attorney, former associate general
counsel for Gov. Brad Henry and board member of Oklahomans for Criminal Justice Reform.
Additional applications from individuals being supported by this campaign will receive initial consideration in September from the board, which
under Oklahoma law uses an extensive two-part process to consider applications that ultimately must be approved by the governor.
“This is a fiscally and socially sound initiative to look into carefully-selected sentences to bring them in line with current law. The cases under
examination involve inmates with convictions whose sentences may have
exceeded their intended goals. We look forward to working with all stakeholders to safely reduce Oklahoma’s bloated prison population,” said Andrew Speno, Oklahoma state director for Right on Crime, a conservative
advocacy organization that is a member of the OCJR coalition.
In addition to pursuing sentence modification through commutation, the
campaign will also help individuals whose applications are successful secure reentry services and, when appropriate, treatment services.
“We’re just as interested in these people succeeding once they leave
prison as we are in seeing their sentence modified to fit current law. Our
faith, reentry and treatment partners statewide are prepared to responsibly
receive these Oklahomans back into their communities should their applications be granted,” Edwards said. “This campaign’s priority is community
safety. We know prison isn’t the right place for these people, and we stand
ready to assist them if they are freed.”

commonly abused drugs: alcohol
People drink to socialize, celebrate, and relax. Alcohol often has a strong effect on
people—and throughout history, people have struggled to understand and manage
alcohol’s power. Why does alcohol cause people to act and feel differently? How much
is too much? Why do some people become addicted while others do not? The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism is researching the answers to these
and many other questions about alcohol. Here’s what is known:
Alcohol’s effects vary from person to person, depending on a variety of factors,
including:
• How much you drink
• How often you drink
• Your age
• Your health status
• Your family history
While drinking alcohol is itself not necessarily a problem—drinking too much can
cause a range of consequences, and increase your risk for a variety of problems. For
more information on alcohol’s effects on the body, please see the National Institute
on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism’s related web page at drugabuse.gov describing
alcohol’s effects on the body.

Overbrook Man Sentenced To 46
Months For Firearm Possession
Colby Ray Barrick, age 41, of Overbrook,
was sentenced to 46 months imprisonment and three years supervised release for
Felon In Possession Of Firearm. The charge
arose from an investigation by the Oklahoma
Department of Wildlife Conservation and the
Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and
Explosives.
The Indictment alleged that on or about
October 25, 2017, Barrick, having been convicted of a crime punishable by imprisonment
for a term exceeding one year, did knowingly
possess in and affecting commerce, a Savage, Model 64, .22 caliber rifle, serial number 2593140, which had been shipped and
transported in interstate commerce.
United States Attorney Brian J. Kuester said, “Enforcement of the federal
law that prohibits convicted felons from possessing firearms is one of the
ways United States Attorney’s Offices can work with local, state, tribal and
federal law enforcement agencies to carry out our shared mission of public
safety. We are fortunate in the Eastern District of Oklahoma to see many different agencies from different jurisdictions working together on a daily basis,
understanding that when we work together we are maximizing our impact on
the communities that we serve. This case is one example of that type of interagency cooperation that allows the members of this office to hold defendants
accountable for their unlawful action.”
The Honorable Ronald A. White, U.S. District Judge in the United States
District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, in Muskogee, presided
over the hearing. Assistant United States Attorney Dean Burris represented
the United States. The defendant will remain in custody pending transportation to the designated federal facility at which the non-paroleable sentence
will be served.

Ardmore Man Pleads Guilty To
Possession Of Stolen Firearm
An Ardmore man who attempted to escape from the Garvin County jail in April has
pled guilty to federal weapons charges. He
was indicted in June 2018.
Jason Glen Willis, 32, pled guilty to Felon
In Possession Of Firearm, and Possessing,
Receiving And Concealing A Stolen Firearm.
Each count is punishable by not more than
10 years imprisonment, a fine up to $250,000
or both.
The Indictment alleged that on or about
March 20, 2017, Willis, a convicted felon, did
knowingly possess a Heritage Manufacturing,
Inc., Model Rough Rider, .22 caliber revolver,
which had been shipped and transported in
interstate commerce.
Also, Willis did knowingly possess, receive and conceal the same firearm,
knowing and having reasonable cause to believe the firearm was stolen.
The charges arose from an investigation by the Ardmore Police Department, the Murray County Sheriff’s Office, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the
Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
A U.S. Magistrate Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma in Muskogee accepted the plea and ordered the
completion of a presentence investigation report.

We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money
or favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting officer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.
Thank you and God Bless

A South Carolina man was caught rubbing buttered toast all over his
neighbor’s SUV window. Seems like a foolproof plan, how did he get
caught? According to MSN, He just dropped the toast a few feet away
from the car and made his departure, causing a nearby woman to notice and call the police. The police charged the now hungry man with
“malicious damage to property” and estimated the cost of damage to
be about $1.
What’s the hottest you’ve ever been? Temperature-wise of course, because if it was in physical terms, we all know we were the hottest at our
5th grade, bowl-cut, chubs stage. But really, to what extent would you
go to cool off?
Hopefully not so far you’d get arrested, but this is exactly what a group
of four young men in Germany did. On a hot day, they decided to make
their own pool in a car. In a BMW no less. A policeman noticed a very
strange convertible driving down the road. Upon closer viewing, it appeared that the bathing-suit clad men were splashing around in the water-filled car, clearly intoxicated. Though there was no law against driving
around with a pool in someone’s car, they were probably charged for
driving without a permit. Talk about hot water.
What do you guys think about sausage? I suppose it’s better than a
hot dog, which in turn is better than bologna (which is basically giant hot
dog slices?). And no matter what, it has to be better than Lunchables
*shudder*.
No matter your opinion, sausage was a huge disappointment for this
Phoenix man. He attempted to rob two large businesses, first an Ace
Hardware and then a Safeway. He put his hand under his shirt to look
like a gun, but the cashier was not fooled and calmly said “no” to his request for money. Equally unsuccessful was his attempt to rob a Safeway,
which resulted in him being escorted out of the building. He waited a few
minutes before returning into the store to snag a small breakfast sausage
and was therefore charged with shoplifting. I guess all that failing worked
up an appetite.
Sometimes people don’t want their babies. Throughout history, these
people have found convenient ways to get rid of them. In the middle
ages, a popular solution was to leave a swaddled infant on the doorstep
of a misfortunate new parent. Worse for the child, another option was an
orphanage. In later times, parents could even put their kid in the circus
for life. The last one, I’m actually jealous of.
It might not have been this Florida woman’s goal to give away her child,
but that’s sure what it looked like. She had gone shopping at Dillard’s,
and tried to shoplift $260 worth of clothing using her baby stroller. When
a police officer followed her out to her car, she flipped out and eventually threw her baby in its little carseat at him. The baby was not injured.
The shoplifter received three charges, including “resisting a police officer
without violence”. Um. What would be violent, throwing her entire family?

Arkansas Woman Admits Killing Husband
over Pornography
A Jefferson County, Arkansas, woman has
been charged with murder after her husband
was found dead.
Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Operations
Commander, Major Lafayette Woods, Jr. advised that 69-year-old Patricia Hill has been
arrested and charged with capital murder after
her husband, 65-year-old Frank Hill was found
dead.
A dispatcher from Jefferson County’s Metropolitan Emergency Communications Association (MEAC) received a 911 call from Patricia
Hill, who stated that she had shot her husband.
Deputies responded to 3801 Donaldson Lane in Jefferson County and
found Patricia Hill standing in the front yard. Hill was immediately detained
until investigators arrived on the scene. Meanwhile, the body of Frank Hill
was located by deputies and investigators on the floor inside a utility shed
on the property. Frank Hill had suffered at least two gunshot wounds to the
upper and lower body.
Paramedics from the Emergency Ambulance Services, Incorporated
(EASI) were notified and arrived on scene; however, Frank Hill was pronounced dead a short time later as a result of his injuries.
“Patricia Hill was transported by our criminal investigators to the Jefferson
County Sheriff’s Office, where a custodial interview was conducted after investigators advised Mrs. Hill of her constitutional rights. Mrs. Hill waived her
rights and agreed to speak with investigators,” Major Woods said.
“During the interview, Mrs. Hill admitted to investigators that she arrived
home and at some point walked to the utility shed on the property to confront her husband. Mrs. Hill told investigators that there had never been any
physical altercations between her and her husband. However, Mrs. Hill stated that she disagreed with her husband’s purchase of video pornography
via the television guide, which she cancelled upon discovering the purchase
but Mr. Hill managed to place a subsequent order. Mrs. Hill stated that she
entered the shed and asked her husband to leave but he refused. Mrs. Hill
admitted that she then returned inside the residence, where she armed herself with a .22 caliber pistol. She went back to the shed a short time later,
where she entered and shot her husband twice, striking him once in the leg
and once in the head. Immediately following the shooting, Mrs. Hill stated
that she returned inside the residence, where she returned the weapon and
called 911 to report the shooting.”
Patricia Hill is currently being held at the W.C. “Dub” Brassell Adult Detention Center without bond on felony probable cause for capital murder in
the shooting death of her husband. Hill will remain in custody pending the
scheduling of her first court appearance.

By the time I get to Arizona...
An Elmore City couple who were caught trying to
sell stolen cattle told police they were just trying to
make enough money to leave Oklahoma and move
to Arizona.
Instead of getting some freedom, they were put
behind bars.
Reports state 35-year-old Madeline Marline
Draughon and 33-year-old Austin Robert Temple
took seven head of cattle to a Purcell auction barn
on August 3. A longtime employee at the sale barn
noticed right away that there was probably something wrong going on. The cattle appeared to be
very high quality.
After closer inspection, he noticed they were
branded with the mark of a nearby rancher. He
called the rancher, who came to the location and
immediately identified the cattle as his. He said they
had been stolen from his Elmore City ranch.
The employee and rancher called the Oklahoma
Department of Agriculture, who in turn set up an
undercover operation to arrest the cattle-thievin’
couple. When Draughon came inside the sale barn
to collect a $7,500 check, an officer waiting behind
the desk immediately placed her under arrest.
Temple, who was with the woman along with her infant daughter, was also
arrested. The couple told police they were just trying to get some money so
they could move to Arizona.
Both Draughon and Temple are being charged with pattern of criminal offenses, knowingly concealing stolen property and seven counts of larceny of
domestic animal. Their bonds were set at $35,000, and they are scheduled
to appear in court on August 29, 2018.
