December is National Drunk and Drugged Driving Prevention
Month, a time to raise awareness about the consequences of
driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
Get the Facts
• Every day, almost 30 people in the United States die in motor
vehicle crashes that involve an alcohol- impaired driver. (Source:
CDC)
• In 2010, there were 431 alcohol- related motor vehicle fatalities
in Ohio. (Source: Ohio DPS)
• Of drivers tested, 1/3 of fatally
injured drivers in Ohio tested
positive for drugs from 2005-2009. (Source: NHTSA)
Drugged Driving Prevention
• All drivers must understand that drugged driving is as dangerous as drunk driving and
that driving under the influence of certain prescription medications is considered impaired
driving.
• As with a drunk driver, never ride in a car with a driver you suspect is under the influence.
Drunk Driving Prevention
• Designate a sober driver before celebrations begin.
• Never serve those under the age of 21 alcohol.
• Plan safe parties, including providing non-alcoholic drink options to guests and not
serving alcohol the last hour of the gathering.

A man wandering in an alley was arrested
and taken to jail after he falsely identified himself to an officer in an attempt to evade arrest.
That’s ironic.
On Nov. 6, a Ponca City police officer saw two
males walking in an alley behind some businesses. He made contact with them and check
their names for warrants. One man gave the
officer a fictitious name and birthdate in 1981.
The officer asked him how old he was and the man said he was
30 years old.
Since the math obviously didn’t add up, the officer told the man
that he didn’t believe he was being truthful about his identity.
The man admitted that he was lying and told the officer that his
name was actually Joshua David Kitchens, 31.
He told the officer that he had warrants out of multiple agencies
and did not want to go to jail.
The officer verified that Kitchens did indeed have multiple warrants. He placed Kitchens under arrest and asked him if he had
anything illegal on his person.
Kitchens motioned toward his front pockets. The officer found
a small baggy full of a white powdery substance. Kitchens admitted that the substance was meth. The substance also field-tested
positive for methamphetamine.
The officer also found a package of rolling papers in Kitchens’
pocket.
Kitchens is being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance after former conviction of two or more felonies,
unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and obstructing an officer. His bond was set at $10,000 and he is scheduled to appear
in court on Nov. 27, 2013.

A ‘crazy young male’ from Ponca City
was arrested after he returned from visiting friends and was, well, acting crazy.
Meth will do that to you!
According to the affidavit, a woman
called Ponca City police on Nov. 4 and told
them that her grandson, Aaron Andrew
Duane Fahs, 20, had recently returned
from visiting friends from Oklahoma City
and was, well… acting crazy.
When police arrived at the residence, a
woman told the officer that the crazy man was walking in an alley. The officer located Fahs and yelled at him to stop, but he kept
walking.
The officer ran after Fahs and found him in a garage. Although
Fahs had no reason to be in the garage, the owner did not want
to press charges. He probably just wanted the crazy man out of
his garage.
Police were able to coax Fahs out of the garage.
Fahs was unsteady on his feet, had shaky and twitchy movements and his speech was intelligible. He was also carrying a
blue plastic container.
The officer asked him what was in the container; Fahs handed
the container to him and inside, the officer found a metal spoon,
some plastic baggies, and a baggy that contained a powdery substance, which later field-tested positive for meth.
Fahs was transported to the Ponca City Police Department.
Fahs is being charged with unlawful possession of a controlled
dangerous substance after two or more former convictions, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and public intoxication.
His bond was set at $15,000 and he is scheduled to appear in
court on Nov. 20.
Crazy is as crazy does

OK Jailbirds is cooperating with the efforts of Oklahoma Department of Human Services to impact the huge
social problem of irresponsible parents who are not paying the child supports ordered by our courts.
If these biological-only parents won’t honor the courts order, perhaps public shame will get their attention.
If you know how to reach any of the Deadbeat Parents found on this page, please call the Oklahoma Department of Human Services
Child Support HotLine at 1-800-522-8014
Importance of Child Support
Children are our future and child support helps make sure they
have a chance at a productive life. Children have the right to get
support from both parents and do not lose this right when a
parent leaves the home.
When children do not receive child support, they can:
Suffer both Emotionally and Physically
Live within a Reduced Standard of Living
Have their Basic Needs Unmet
Become Non-Supportive when they become Parents.
When one or both parents do not support their children,
taxpayers often pay the cost of raising children. When children
receive public assistance and their parents pay no child support,
all taxpayers bear the cost of supporting the children.

A Bartlesville pharmacy employee was arrested after he admitted to stealing pills from
his place of employment.
On Nov. 11, a Bartlesville police officer was
called to the pharmacy in reference to an employee admitting to stealing medication.
When the officer arrived, he spoke with the
pharmacy’s loss prevention officer, who told
him that there had been an audit in the drug
count in the pharmacy and when the report
came back, it revealed that a large number of pills were missing.
The loss prevention officer said he spoke with the lead pharmacist, Brandon Paul Maydew, 29, who admitted to stealing pills
from the pharmacy over a 6-moth period.
The officer spoke with Maydew, who said that he stole the pills
for personal use — he asserted he was not covering for anyone
and had not sold any of the pills.
Maydew said he started taking the pills as a form of selfmedication but it had turned into a psychological dependence.
Maydew said he started stealing the pills in March 2013, and the
stolen pills included 90 oxycodone pills and 117 hydrocodone
pills, among others.
The loss prevention officer told the officer that he reviewed
some video, which showed Maydew putting some pills in his
mouth and in his pockets.
The officer placed Maydew under arrest and transported him
to jail.
Maydew is being charged with larceny of a controlled dangerous substance. He was released on a $2,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 6, 2013.

Police out helping keep the streets clean arrested
a man suspected of stealing a street sweeper.
According to Sacramento Police, offi cers out on
patrol near Truxel Road and Brewerton Drive saw
a street sweeper truck peel out of a parking lot and
onto the street.
The truck promptly ran a red light – and didn’t
have its headlights on – prompting the offi cers to try
and pull the street sweeper over. However, police
note, the driver pushed on and didn’t stop until he
had hit three parked cars. The driver then bolted
from the truck.
A police perimeter was set up in the area, but
the suspected driver – 18-year-old Lavonn Dill –
eventually surrendered himself to a K-9 offi cer.
Dill now faces charges of fl eeing, possession of a
stolen vehicle and hit-and-run charges.
A Florida man who was doing a mean-spirited
Santa Claus impression might be spending Christmas
behind bars after getting caught in the chimney of a
Naples, Fla., home during an attempted burglary.
Richard Tyler Brandon, 25, got trapped in a
chimney after running out of cash during a night
out. His friend, Derek Grenfell, alerted two Naples
police offi cers about the situation after it became
apparent Brandon was stuck.
A team of police offi cers and local fi re department
offi cials broke into the home and saw Brandon’s foot
hanging in the fi replace.
“I said, ‘Dude, you’re not Santa Claus, what are
you doing?’” Grenfell reportedly said to the police.
It took two hours, but Brandon was freed from the
chimney and taken to the hospital for treatment of
issues including leg pain and trouble breathing. It
could have been worse.
“There is a chance he could have died,” said
Naples Detective Robert Young. “That space he was
jammed into was really tight. He couldn’t move.”
Brandon was hit with two burglary charges and
Grenfell was charged as an accessory to the crime
after the fact.
A Vero Beach, Fla., man who was angry with his
wife left a phony bomb on a kitchen counter, an
Indian River County Sheriff ’s Offi ce spokesman.
Randolph Smith, 51, was arrested on charges of
aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, planting
a hoax bomb and resisting arrest without violence.
Deputies received a call from a woman who said
her husband left a gray pipe with a wire protruding
from one end on the kitchen counter. There were
several hand-written notes on the counter, including
one that read, “This is (an) explosive. (It’s) a bomb.”
Smith’s wife told deputies she is in the process of
getting a divorce.
The bomb squad was called and determined that
the device didn’t contain any explosives.
Deputies tracked Smith down at a Burger King
and arrested him. During questioning, Smith tried to
leave the interview room and had to be handcuff ed,
according to the arrest report.
Smith told detectives that he left the hoax bomb
on the counter because his wife “pissed him off .”

An intoxicated granny was arrested Nov. 13 after police caught her driving under the
influence with her 7-year-old grandson in the car.
According to the affidavit, a Washington County deputy attempted to pull over Laura
Gene Thornbrugh, 52, after he observed her driving recklessly at a high rate of speed
through the streets of Bartlesville.
The Bartlesville woman initially failed to yield to the deputy’s emergency lights and
instead continued her reckless journey through the city, failing to keep her car within a
single lane and passing a vehicle on the wrong side of the road.
Thornbrugh eventually brought her vehicle to a stop and exited the car. She told the
deputy that she needed to drop her 7-year-old grandson off with his father.
The deputy asked her if she had heard his sirens or seen his lights. She told him that
she was in a hurry.
Thornbrugh was slurring her words and seemed unsteady on her feet. He asked her if she had consumed any
alcohol; she told him no.
Due to the fact that he could not smell the odor of alcohol, the deputy deduced that she was under the influence of medications.
He asked if she had taken any medication that would impair her driving. She told him no.
Thornburgh agreed to take a field sobriety test, but she was unable to complete it. The deputy asked her
again if she had taken anything. She admitted to taking two klonopins.
The deputy asked her if she had taken any other medications. She told him she had, but she couldn’t remember their names.
Thornbrugh told the deputy that the prescriptions had been prescribed to her and that she couldn’t get in
trouble for taking them.
The deputy explained that even if her doctor had prescribed them, she couldn’t drive while taking them,
because the way she had been driving could seriously hurt or kill someone.
He placed her under arrest and transported her to jail.
When asked if she would take the state’s blood test, she replied, “I passed your tests, I’ve got money. I’ll get
out of this with an attorney.”
Thornbrugh is being charged with child endangerment by driving under the influence after a former conviction and driving a motor vehicle while under the influence after a former conviction. She was freed on a
$15,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 6, 2013.
Go, granny, go!

“Be of sober spirit,
be on the alert. Your
adversary, the devil,
prowls around like a
roaring lion, seeking
someone to devour.
But resist him” (I Peter
5:8-9).
Everything was going
well for you. Money in
your pocket. You wanted
to spend it. You knew
how to spend it. Your
choice was a sobering
experience.
The Bible says you
have an enemy who
wants to destroy your
life. To trap you. Your
choice was a bad one.
You had a wreck. Picked
up for possession. You didn’t control your anger. The roaring lion
caught you. You failed to “resist him”. Deceived.
The devil catches people by getting them to think, “It’ll be OK!”,
when it isn’t OK. You were devoured! It doesn’t need to happen
again. Seek God and you will find Him (Acts 17:27).

Eighteen-year-old Brittany
Phillips was a student who
was taking courses at Tulsa
Community College and was
days away from her 19th
birthday. She was described as a
bubbly, happy person who had
no known enemies, the type of
girl who always kept in contact
with family and friends and was
always responsible, taking her
school work seriously. So it was
surprising when she suddenly stopped showing up to TCC
and couldn’t be reached by phone.
On October 1, 2004, after a couple days of missed classes,
a concerned friend decided to stop over Brittany’s apartment
at Union Apartments, where she was living alone. She walked
into a horrifying scene, Brittany’s decomposing body. She
had been laying there for several days.
The last time anyone had contact with Brittany was on the
evening of September 27, 2004. Sometime during the latenight hours of 09/27/04 and the early-morning hours of
09/28/04, an unidentifi ed man was in her apartment. It is
unknown if he was invited in or broke in. She was assaulted,
raped and then strangled to death and he left her bruised and
battered body lying on her bed in her second fl oor apartment.
Since her murder, authorities have interviewed MANY
people and have compared thousands of DNA with no luck.

What you’re saying
about this on...
Valerie W: R.I.P Prayers go out to the
family.
Shawna A: THOUGHTS FOR THIS
FAMILY .
Jay A: Sad.
Janae Marie H: PRAYERS
Brittany W: Why do we have such
lenient laws for drinking and driving?!?
This man needs LWOP at the minimum!
This poor boy and his poor parents. I can’t
even imagine....
Jerry D: Things like this makes me
wonder why alcohol is legal, but other way
less dangerous things are illegal.
Sabrah B: No im not a weed smoker
but I know ppl. But why is this legal? How
many accidents or deaths caused of alcohol?
A lot! Now how many accidents or death has
weed caused? Answer that one. This world
is getting way outta hand. My heart hurts
for this family I couldn’t imagine. Prayers
for this boy and his family!
Jerry D: Not only the dangers of
drinking and driving,but health related
damage and mental and physical abuse.
Alcohol hurts thousands a year. Yet its legal.
Weed on the other hand helps people, no
reported deaths or ODs, but yet its illegal.
Makes perfect sense.
Desiree H: Very sad. What was he
doing riding his bike at 11:00pm. That
man should’ve been driving and that little
boy should’ve never have been out that late
riding his bike. He should’ve been at home
in his pj’s. Everyone dropped the ball on this
one.
Jerry D: Most parents now days could
care less what there kids are doing as long as
they don’t bother the parents. Sad indeed.
Jennifer R: I was wondering the same
thing. I hope that he was coming back from
something at school or church, not just
running the streets at that time. So sad for
the family. I hope they find justice
LittleWeasel W: But wait according
to folks who love to get drunk. Alcohol has
never hurt anyone.
Virginia I: No blame except for the
person who hit the child, A family has lost
a son,brother,grandchild,friend May God
protect and cover this family in this awful
time
Ruby H: Billy was riding his bike
home from a church event called eternal
fraternity. It’s something for kids to do on
Friday and Saturday nights.
Amy S: Who gives a sh** what the boy
was doing out that late. For Christs sake,
is it the parents fault now that he was
allowed to leave the home? For buying him
a bike? What about what his brother had
to witness? How his parents feel? You’re
first thought is “why was he out that late”?
Pathetic. Really pathetic. Tragedy happens
everyday and people are always looking for
someone to pass the blame to. God bless
everyone involved in this tragedy.
Abe T: A life has been taken and all you
people can worry bout why he was out late
the real ? Why was the man drinking and
driving the kid could have been in another
car and the man driving drunk could still
have killed that kid by hitting another
vehicle this a little kid who didn’t know he
was gonna die riding his bike home but
the man knew drinking and driving could
kill someone and it did so think about that
you heartless people if it was your kid you
wouldn’t be saying things like we’re was the
parents news flash kids get hit by people
driving drunk during the day too
Dustin K: judgemental a** people, i
swear.... it doesnt matter what the kid was
doing. his life is over and you people wanna
blame his parents?
Stephanie S: Where in this story does
it say he was riding a bike? It’s horrible to
hear ANOTHER person has lost a life due to
stupidity...but where am I missing the bike
part?
Taken too soon
A 12-year-old Wagoner boy was killed Nov. 9 by a driver
suspected of being under the influence of alcohol. Chief of
Police Bob Haley said the boy was riding home with his
brother when he was hit by an SUV.
Haley said the two brothers were northbound on North
Story Avenue near N.E. Ninth Street just before 11 p.m. Billy
Lord, 12, was struck by a northbound SUV driven by Richard Roth of Wagoner.
Roth left the scene but later returned, Haley said.
The other brother was not injured.
Haley said Roth, 34, was booked on anticipated charges of manslaughter
and leaving the scene of a personal injury accident. Any other charges will
await the results of a blood test, but police do have reason to suspect alcohol
is a factor, he said.

A “trashy” Skiatook man was arrested after he was
caught littering a parking lot while under the influence
of drugs.
On Nov. 9, a Skiatook police officer was dispatched to
Wal-Mart in reference to a male throwing trash all over
the parking lot.
According to the affidavit, when the officer arrived, he
saw a white truck that had trash strewn behind it. He
made contact with the subject and asked him several
times what he was doing.
The irritable man, later identified as Jerry Howard
Davis, 53, obviously did not want to bothered and told
the officer that he was cleaning out his truck. The officer
noticed that Davis had dilated pupils and exaggerated
body movements; he also appeared to be very anxious
and could not stay focused on the simple questions the officer asked him.
As the officer was talking to Davis, he turned away from the officer and started hitting
a piece of Styrofoam with a curtain road. The officer placed Davis under arrest for public
intoxication and littering. While searching his person, the officer found a small box that
contained pills that the officer identified as Alprazolam and Morphine.
The officer placed Davis in his patrol car and picked up the mess Davis had made and
secured Davis’s truck before transporting the intoxicated man to the Skiatook Police
Department.
While waiting to be transported to the Osage County Jail, Davis continued to exhibit
blatant signs of drug intoxication. In his cell, he took off his clothes, washed them in the
sink, and then kept folding and unfolding his socks and placing them in different places
in the cell. He also poured water all over the floor and told jail staff that he was going to
clean the floor because it was dirty.
Davis is being charged with two counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance, public intoxication and dumping trash onto public/private property. He was
released on a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 19, 2013.

victims should always have the

A Pawnee man, who is known by law enforcement as an excessive purchaser of pseudoephedrine, was arrested after police
found evidence of a methamphetamine lab in the back of his car.
According to the affidavit, a Pawnee County deputy was on patrol in the early morning hours of Oct. 25, when he saw a vehicle
sitting on the shoulder of Highway 64.
He made contact with the driver, William Clinton Holt, 37,
who told him that his truck had run out of gas and his friend was
bringing him fuel for the vehicle.
The deputy noticed that Holt’s hands were shaking, and he
was having trouble speaking.
The deputy asked Holt if he would undergo a field sobriety test. Holt agreed, but it
was soon apparent to the officer that the man was under the influence of some kind of
stimulant.
Holt consented to police searching is vehicle. In the backseat, the deputy found several receipts for the purchase of lighter fluid, ice cold packs and empty packaging for
nasal decongestant medicine. The deputy knew that the items were indicative of the
manufacture of methamphetamine, and he contacted another member of the sheriff’s
department, who was a clandestine laboratory technician.
The technician found more items that he identified through his training and experience as items used in the manufacture of meth.
Holt was taken to jail, where he told police that he had forgotten the items were in his
vehicle and he had last manufactured meth two days earlier.
Holt had been under investigation for the manufacturing of meth based on his pseudoephedrine activity in the state of Oklahoma, the affidavit states. He had purchased
pseudoephedrine 45 times since Aug. 2012, and had been blocked from purchasing the
drug 129 times.
Holt is being charged with the manufacture of a controlled dangerous substance. He
is being held on a $20,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 26, 2013.

Hello to all, and Happy
Thanksgiving! By the time you
read this, you will have probably
made all your holiday travel plans, if you are going somewhere,
or have people coming to your home to celebrate. The roadways
will be extra busy, and with a lot of people traveling at the same
time, the chances for accidents also go way up. I’m going to give
a few tips on how to minimize your chances of being involved in
an accident, and some ways to help insure your holidays are safe.
Every year, we work a lot of accidents on people who are
“running late”. Speed plays a major role in accidents, as well as
the severity of an accident. Speed decreases reaction time, which
a driver needs to be able to react to anything that happens in front
of them. What is the best thing you can do to not be “running
late”? Simply plan your holiday travel a little in advance. You
know what time you and your family get off work, or get out of
school, so plan your departure time accordingly. Give yourself
plenty of time for delays, bathroom and snack stops, etc. Also,
if you are running late, its OK! The people you are going to see
would rather you be late, than not arrive at all because you were
involved in an accident.
Another major factor in holiday accidents are a result of
celebrating, and then making a bad decision. I’m not going to
tell you not to enjoy your holiday, and if partaking in some egg
nog or other alcoholic drink is part of your celebration, that’s
fine. Just don’t decide to drive after you drink. Drinking and
driving is a decision, not an accident. Planning here goes a long
way towards a safe holiday. If you know you are going to drink,
plan on staying where you are, or have a designated driver.
Another thing you can do to stay safe is wear your seat belt. The
accident may not be your fault, and you may be doing everything
right, and could still end up in the hospital or worse, because you
didn’t have your seatbelt on. Even minor accidents can cause
significant damage to us if we are not properly restrained. Every
Trooper on the road has worked a fatality accident which we
all know in our heart would not have resulted in death had the
person been using a seatbelt. It takes no time to put on, but it
may be the most important thing you can do this holiday season.
To sum up, slow down and enjoy the holiday season! Plan
ahead, and use a designated driver or stay put if you use alcohol
in your celebrations. No one wants to spend the holidays in a
hospital or worse!
Holidays are for celebration, so lets take care of ourselves and
each other. Thanks for listening, buckle up and drive safe.
Tips from a Trooper
