OLD MAN DOWN THE ROAD
A 77-year-old suspect in the 1969 murder of a
teen girl in Nebraska was arrested in Ponca City
on November 18.
According to reports, U.S. Marshals arrested
the suspect, identified as Joseph Ambroz, at an
apartment complex in the 1500 block of West
Highland.
Ambroz is the main suspect in the murder
of Mary Kay Heese, who was just 17 years old
when she was killed.
Heese was stabbed to death and her body was found on a county road
near Wahoo, Nebraska. Reports state her body was recently exhumed.
A grand jury reviewed evidence that issued an indictment.
Authorities, who had been tracking Ambroz, sought an arrest warrant.
After being arrested, Ambroz was taken to the Kay County Detention Center before being extradited to Nebraska.
He appeared in court in Wahoo on November 25.

ROBBERY SUSPECT
On the evening of December 1st, a male subject
wearing a hoody, sweatpants, blue latex gloves,
and a red mask entered the Stop N Go at 501
W. Highland, Ponca City. The suspect pointed a

AROUND THE NATION
Foiled again
During the early morning hours of November 7, A
Brevard County (Florida) sheriff’s deputy was out on a
leisurely patrol in a wooded area when he came upon
Matthew Korecky who quickly grabbed a piece of aluminum foil, along with a bag containing a green powdery substance that he retrieved from a yellow box near
his feet.
As soon as the confronted Korecky, he tried to hide
the items under his body, hoping the deputy hadn’t seen his actions. Unfortunately for
him, he wasn’t quick enough and the deputy detained Korecky and collected the unknown items. As things progressed, it didn’t take long before the deputy located not only
the drugs he was trying to hide, but more drugs and a firearm that had been reported
stolen out of a nearby police station’s jurisdiction.
In total, Korecky had 17.4g of methamphetamine, 4 pills identified as muscle relaxers,
and approximately 8.3 grams of Fentanyl, which if put into a lethal dose would be enough
to kill just over 4,000 people.
To top it all off, Korecky is a convicted felon and is unable to legally possess firearms,
but clearly he doesn’t obey the law.
The good news is that Korecky is now residing in the big house on no bond, as he was
arrested for Trafficking in Fentanyl, Trafficking in Methamphetamine, Possession
of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Use/
Display Firearm or Carry Conceal Firearm
During the Commission of a Felony, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. ANNA

CATCH AND RELEASE
An Oologah man’s Halloween was briefly disrupted
after he was caught with drugs and driving on a suspended license.
Jeffery Elbert Hill, 63, was charged October 31 with
possession of controlled dangerous substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while privilege
to drive is suspended, and failure to keep right, in
Osage County District Court.
According to the Hominy Police Department, in the
early morning hours of Wednesday, October 31, Officer Kolton Reed conducted a traffic stop near Main
St and Katy Ave. Officer Reed made contact with the driver, who was identified as Hill.
During the course of the traffic stop, it was discovered that Hill had a suspended
drivers license, was in possession of methamphetamine, marijuana, and paraphernalia.
Hill was arrested and booked into the Osage County Jail. He pled guilty later that
day and was released. Hill was arrested for similar charges back in July, and over the
last two decades in Craig, Ottawa, and Delaware counties.

Cleveland man Ramon Salvador Lujan, 39, was
arrested in Payne County just five days after he
was put on probation in Pawnee County.
According to reports, Salvador was on probation for driving under the influence of marijuana.
On November 13, a Payne County deputy was
dispatched to a residence in rural Yale at approximately 8:49 p.m. to investigate a disturbance.
Salvador told the deputy that he and a woman started arguing. She kicked him
out of the truck, so he went to the residence so she couldn’t find him.
Court records said Lujan lived in Cleveland, but he told the deputy he lived
in Chandler. The deputy said he could give him a ride to the Payne and Lincoln
County Line. Lujan agreed.
The deputy asked the man if he had anything on his person. He then patted
the man down to check for weapons. He found a glass pipe commonly used to
smoke meth. Lujan also informed the deputy that he had a dollar bill in his front
pocket that contained some drugs.
The deputy arrested Lujan and put him in the patrol car. While driving to jail,
the deputy realized he didn’t double lock the handcuffs. When he opened the
door to lock the handcuffs, Lujan stuck out his shoe and told the deputy to look
in his sock. The deputy looked and found a clear baggy containing a crystal-like
substance. The substances all tested positive for fentanyl.
Lujan is being charged with trafficking illegal drugs and unlawful possession
of drug paraphernalia. His bond was set at $100,000, and he is scheduled to
appear in court on January 9, 2025. EDMOND

SPITTING INTO THE WIND
A 19-year-old Bartlesville woman allegedly
spit on some detention officers after she was
arrested on suspicion of domestic abuse on
November 22.
According to reports, Monica Leann Scott
and her partner started fighting at approximately 3:40 p.m. When Bartlesville police officers arrived at the location, the victim had marks on
them. The victim’s shirt was also torn up.
The victim told officers that Scott had hit them
with an umbrella.
Officers placed the woman under arrest and took her to jail.

14 | DECEMBER 2024 WASHINGTON COUNTY Presumed Innocent Until Proven Guilty
DECEMBER IS NATIONAL IMPAIRED
DRIVING PREVENTION MONTH
Two of the most celebrated dates in December –
Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve – are also among
the most dangerous. In 2018, drunk driving crashes
claimed 108 lives in those two days alone, accounting
for nearly half of total traffic deaths.
That is why Mothers Against Drunk Driving® (MADD)
is teaming up with law enforcement agencies across
the country throughout the month of December, which
has been recognized as National Impaired Driving Prevention Month for the 39th consecutive year.
During December 2018, 839 people died in alcohol-related crashes, according to the
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. While drunk driving deaths typically represent around a third of all traffic fatalities, that increased to nearly 50 percent on Dec. 24
and Dec. 31.
On Dec. 25, 2018, 35 people died in drunk driving crashes.
This is staggering.
The pain caused by one person’s choice to drive impaired is often permanent. Every
single death left a permanent empty seat at the table and turned a time of celebration
into tragedy.
And every single death was 100 percent preventable.
We’re asking everyone to take personal responsibility this holiday season by making
a plan for a safe ride home before your celebrations begin. Designate a non-drinking,
unimpaired driver. Take a taxi, a bus, or a train. Use a rideshare app like Uber. If you’re a
host, provide an alternative to your guests, such as festive, non-alcoholic drinks offered
by our partner Mocktail Beverages.
You can also show your commitment to drive sober by displaying one of our Tie One
On for Safety red ribbons or magnetic decals on your vehicle, which are available at our
local MADD offices around the country.
Drunk driving crashes increase throughout the month of December as more people
travel and attend events where alcohol is served. That is why every U.S. President since
Ronald Reagan has proclaimed December National Impaired Driving Prevention Month.
President Donald Trump continued in that tradition this month, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to prevent tragedies by making the decision to drive sober.
The proclamation also remembers victims of impaired driving, offers prayers for grieving families impacted by these tragedies and honors law enforcement who are on the
front lines of the violent, preventable crime of impaired driving. RICKY
