CONSPIRACY THEORY
Enid man Stephen Michael Burke, 49, and
his 82-year-old accomplice from Ponca City,
Patricia Lee Kreger, are being charged with
conspiracy and grand larceny after they stole
some stuff from a residence on October 15.
They both were charged with felonies on
December 1 in Kay County District Court.
According to reports, a citizen showed police some photos of two people loading some
items from a property located in the 200
block of West Kansas Avenue. The license
plate on a vehicle in the photos was registered to Burke.
Some of the items Kreger and Burke took
from the residence include a hot water heater,
a brake drum, electric motors, a step ladder,
a galvanized pipe, and a 10-foot ladder.
The duo allegedly stole $1,328 worth of
stuff from the residence.
Kreger is being charged with conspiracy and grand larceny. Her bond was set at
$2,000, and she is scheduled to appear in
court on March 4, 2022.
Burke is being charged with conspiracy
and grand larceny, all after the former conviction of two or more felonies. His bond was set
at $30,000, and he is scheduled to appear in
court on January 28, 2022.

FEDERAL JURY CONVICTS WYNONA MAN OF
ASSAULTING A DATING PARTNER
A federal jury convicted an Osage County
man on December 21 for assaulting his dating partner in a Broken Arrow hotel room in
March 2021, announced Acting U.S. Attorney Clint Johnson.
Craig Wallace Wood, 32, of Wynona, was
found guilty of assault with a dangerous
weapon with intent to do bodily harm in Indian Country and assault resulting in serious
bodily injury in Indian Country.
“Craig Wood brutally assaulted his dating partner,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Clint
Johnson. “The U.S. Attorney’s Office and our
law enforcement partners are committed to
seeking justice on behalf of domestic violence victims. This criminal behavior cannot
and will not be tolerated.”
On March 16, 2021, the victim and Wood went out for the evening, but the
woman returned to their hotel room early. When Wood returned at 11:30 pm,
he accused the victim of nodding at people and saying names of different men
under her breath. Wood assaulted the victim for hours, throughout the early
morning of March 17, by repeatedly beating her with a hairdryer, straightener,
belt, and an electric cord. He then forced the victim to lay beside him.
After he fell asleep, the victim escaped the hotel room, and authorities were
contacted. When officers responded, the victim expressed fear, saying that
the defendant would find her and kill her for calling the police. They noted facial swelling so severe that the victim’s eyes were swollen shut, among other
injuries. They then entered the hotel room and arrested the defendant.
As a result of the assault, the victim suffered injuries including a closed
fracture of the nasal bone; fractured ribs; and bruising on her face, back, legs,
hands and arms.

FROM THE SHERIFF
More progress at the Pawnee County Sheriff’s Office
Meet Humo! Humo is a Belgian Malinois and is trained in narcotic detection and tracking. Humo comes to the Pawnee County Sheriff’s Office from
Little Rock K-9 and was purchased with drug forfeiture funds. He and his
partner, Sgt. Kelby Dickson are now back on the streets after an extensive
training in Arkansas. We are happy to have Humo and Sgt. Dickson on
patrol!
With the help of the Pawnee County Commissioners, the Sheriff’s Office now as a full-time courthouse deputy. Deputy Smith is stationed at
the court house during regular business hours. Deputy Smith previously
worked in the Pawnee County Jail, but is now the face you will see inside
the courthouse!
On November 9, the Pawnee County Sheriff’s Office, for the first time
ever, deployed a dedicated body camera system inside the jail. Every
detention officer will be wearing a body camera while interacting with the
public, arrestees, and inmates. Transparency is important, officer safety
is important, and the safety of the inmates is important. Body cameras
will help to cut frivolous complaints, help to sustain merited complaints,
improve officer and inmate safety, and cut liability inside the jail. The body
cameras were purchased using funding from the Oklahoma County contract.
But our BIGGEST announcement to make is our new dispatch center!
That’s right… We moved dispatch to a new place, upgraded some technology and improved! We took our dispatch out of the jail tower and from
using a base microphone to an actual communication center capable of
monitoring and even patching radios together for better communications!
With the help of the county commissioners and donations from the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety and Payne County Sheriff’s Office our
dispatch center is better than it’s ever been.
Lots more coming as we continue to build a better brand of law enforcement for Pawnee County.

On November 29, while on patrol,
Pawnee County deputies were able
to recover a large amount of drugs
that were believed to be meant for
distribution. Thanks to the individual who called it in and the deputies
that responded, these drugs will not
make it to our streets!!!!
The Pawnee County Sheriffs Office
appreciates any and all tips that help
us keep the citizens that we strive to
work for safe!!
Please remember, if you choose to
call or stop a deputy and give a tip,
you can and will remain anonymous.
In the picture, you will see baggies
of marijuana, one baggie of methamphetamine, one bag of red hard rock candy made with methamphetamine,
a set of scales, and several smaller baggies used for distribution. Prescription medications and other items were also found.

14 | JANUARY 2022 WASHINGTON COUNTY Presumed Innocent Until Proven Guilty
POISONOUS PAIR
A 23-year-old Dewey man is facing several different charges stemming from two incidents.
Reports state that the first case took place
on September 6.
Dewey police officers were dispatched to
the 400 block of Hamilton Avenue, where
they met with a female victim who said Cross
began screaming at her when she woke him
up. He also broke some things in the house.
When the victim tried to call 911, Cross
grabbed the phone and pushed her down a
hallway.
The second incident took place on December 13 at a residence in the 600 block of
Johnstone Avenue. The same victim picked up Cross so they could go visit
their son. The two started arguing, so the victim canceled the visit.
Cross pulled out a black revolver and put it under the victim’s chin while
threatening to kill her. He also licked her face before getting out of the car and
running back to his residence.
For both cases combined, Cross is being charged with possession of a
firearm after a former felony conviction, disrupt/prevent/interrupt emergency
telephone call, domestic abuse -assault and battery, kidnapping, possession
of a firearm after a former felony conviction, possession of a firearm during
the commission of a felony, threaten to perform an act of violence, and sexual
battery.
Cross’ bond for both cases combined is $115,000, and he is scheduled to
appear in court on January 7, 2022.
