AROUND THE AREA
Guthrie man Jeffery Dwayne Rhodes, 49, is in trouble after he allegedly tried to steal a refrigerator before
hitting an officer with his truck on June 9.
According to the affidavit, a Guthrie officer was dispatched to the 1200 block of West Noble to investigate a burglary in progress at approximately 9:34 p.m.
The suspect, Rhodes, was apparently trying to steal a
fridge and load it into the back of his truck.
When the officer arrived, he saw a white truck facing
south on 11th Street. The truck’s engine revved, and
the vehicle backed up and hit something hard in the
roadway.
The officer told the Rhodes to stop. Instead of stopping, Rhodes drove toward the officer and turned east.
The officer continued to yell at the man. Rhodes again put the vehicle in reverse,
this time hitting the officer in the shoulder with the passenger side mirror. He then
put the truck in drive and sped off headed north as trash and debris fell out of his
truck.
Officers were unable to immediately locate the man.
A man at the residence said he didn’t know Rhodes. He just saw him trying to
load the refrigerator and stopped to help. The man added that Rhodes took off like
a “crazy man” when he saw the officer.
The reporting party said she cleaned a house for Rhodes a year ago and the
fridge was her payment. She told the officer that Rhodes did not have permission
to take the refrigerator. She believed the man knew he was doing the wrong thing
by taking it, so that explained why he left so quickly when the officer arrived.
The RP’s mom, who was also the homeowner of the residence, said the fridge
had been in her garage for a long time. She said Rhodes had given it to her daughter after she cleaned a house for him. The woman said Rhodes seemed to be
intoxicated when he came to the house. She told the officer that the man took the
doors off the fridge, presumably took them home, then returned to get the rest of
the fridge.
Rhodes is being charged with burglary in the second degree and assault and battery on police officer after former conviction of a felony. His bond was set at $5,000,
and he is scheduled to appear in court on July 23, 2020.

Truth or consequences
34-year-old Stillwater man Levi Edgar Kraft
is facing several charges after he allegedly led
a Payne County deputy on a pursuit the morning of June 13 and then reported his vehicle as
stolen to avoid being arrested.
According to reports, the deputy was on patrol in the area of 32nd Street and Ripley Road
when a truck drove past him and accelerated
quickly. He followed the truck north on Ripley
Road and then west on McElroy Road and noticed that the driver drove on the grass for an
extended amount of time.
The deputy activated his lights, but the driver
didn’t stop.
During the pursuit, the deputy recognized the driver as Kraft from a previous case.
At one point, the deputy positioned his vehicle as a roadblock, but Kraft
drove around him and kept on going.
The deputy followed Kraft eastbound on McElroy Road and then south
on Shallow Brook Drive, before finding the truck parked in the backyard
of a residence.
Four people were near the truck. They told the deputy they asked Kraft
to let them out of the vehicle. The people seemed nervous about the situation – they also said they told Kraft he wasn’t going to win and he should
just pull over.
One of the men said Kraft told him he was going to report the truck stolen after he stopped it to run.
While they were speaking, the deputy heard someone running through
the woods toward the direction of Kraft’s home.
Dispatch also advised that Kraft had reported his truck as stolen – he
was at his home when he made the call.
Deputies went to the man’s residence to take the stolen vehicle report.
They could see him sitting on the couch, but he never answered the door.
A wrecker was called to the scene to retrieve Kraft’s truck. Inside, the
deputy found a phone and Kraft’s wallet.
Around 10:59 a.m., the towing company advised the deputy that Kraft
was on his way to get his truck. The deputy met Kraft and placed him
under arrest.
Kraft apologized and asked to not be charged with a felony. He said it
would hurt his employment.
Kraft is being charged with running a roadblock, attempting to elude
and false reporting of a crime. His bond was set at $50,000, and he is
scheduled to appear in court on August 3, 2020.

crime doesn’t pay
A 20-year-old Beggs man was taken into
custody after he allegedly robbed a Dollar
General store at gunpoint.
Trentin Anton Richardson was charged
June 18 with three counts of robbery first degree, and one count of assault while masked
or disguised, in Creek County District Court.
According to the Sapulpa Police Department, on Thursday, June 4, at 8:56 p.m., the
Dollar General store located at 420 South
Main, Sapulpa, was robbed at gunpoint. The
suspect entered the store and immediately
encountered multiple customers at the front
register. The suspect demanded and took
money from one of the customers and a cell
phone from a second customer.
The suspect then told the clerk to open the safe and register and fired his
handgun into the ceiling. The clerk complied and the suspect removed the
money from both places.
While this was going on, another customer ran to the back of the store and
called 911. The call was immediately dispatched.
Creek County Deputy Scott Ray arrived within seconds as the suspect was
exiting the store. As Deputy Ray was ordering the suspect to the ground,
Sapulpa Captain Jason Deloache arrived and took the suspect into custody.
Bond for Richardson was set at $155,000.

OK Jailbirds is cooperating with the efforts of Oklahoma Department of Human Services to impact the huge
social problem of irresponsible parents who are not paying the child supports ordered by our courts.
If these biological-only parents won’t honor the courts order, perhaps public shame will get their attention.
If you know how to reach any of the Deadbeat Parents found on this page, please call the Oklahoma Department of Human Services
Child Support HotLine at 1-800-522-8014
Importance of Child Support
Children are our future and child support helps make sure they have a chance at a productive life. Children have the right to get
support from both parents and do not lose this right when a parent leaves the home.
When children do not receive child support, they can:
Suffer both Emotionally and Physically
Live within a Reduced Standard of Living
Have their Basic Needs Unmet
Become Non-Supportive when they become Parents.
When one or both parents do not support their children, taxpayers often pay the cost of raising children. When children receive
public assistance and their parents pay no child support, all taxpayers bear the cost of supporting the children.

AROUND THE AREA
A 19-year-old Prague man allegedly pointed
a gun at his ex’s family during an encounter on
June 9.
Peyton Jade Nash and Meeker man Levi Scott
Ledbetter, also 19, are facing felony charges after the incident.
According to the affidavit, Lincoln County deputies were dispatched to a Prague residence on
South 3570 Road. A woman said her daughter’s
ex-boyfriend, identified as Nash, Ledbetter and
Ledbetter’s girlfriend, had followed her, her son
and her son’s girlfriend, and fired a rifle at them
as they drove home. She said her husband shot
at the suspects as they pulled in front of their
house. The suspects also reported being fired at.
The woman’s husband said his wife called and
said Nash was following them and was shooting
at them. He grabbed his gun and went outside
as he waited for them to come home.
When they drove up, he saw Nash lying over
the hood of a truck with a black rifle – the rifle
was pointed at his son’s truck.
The man said he fired at the truck until the trio
left the property.
The woman said she went with her son and his
girlfriend to Prague Lake. As they drove back into
town, a truck drove behind them and started tailgating them. She said the
people in the truck flipped them off and threw things at them. One of the
occupants also held up a rifle.
When they arrived at the house, she said she saw Nash leaning out of
the truck with a gun.
While conducting a follow-up investigation with Ledbetter, his girlfriend,
and Nash, the deputy concluded that the trio left to go fishing shortly after
seeing the victims drive slowly past the residence. When they left to head
to the lake with the girlfriend’s 3-week-old infant, they found themselves
behind the victim. The girlfriend said before they left, Nash grabbed a shotgun and said, “Let’s go. I’m gonna kill that n----.”
Nash allegedly pointed the gun at the victims.
On June 11, the deputy recovered the firearm used from Ledbetter’s
residence.
Ledbetter is being charged with conspiracy, child endangerment permitting abuse, feloniously pointing a firearm and obstructing officer. His bond
was set at $3,000.
Nash is being charged with feloniously pointing a firearm, conspiracy and
possession of firearm while on supervision. His bond was set at $10,000.
Both men are scheduled to appear in court on August 6, 2020.

A contractor in Noble who received thousands of dollars from Oklahomans in exchange for roofing repairs he never completed, has been charged in Washington County
District Court.
The four felony counts against Chad Davis,
38, come after the Attorney General’s Office
filed three prior felony charges against him in
February.
In all seven charges, investigators allege
Davis followed the same pattern of fraudulent
behavior by using his company, Storm Shield
Roofing and Restoration, to solicit customers, including several senior citizens, under
the guise of roof replacements or repairs that
he then refused to complete or refund payment made. Authorities say in both cases, Davis took around $40,000 from
the victims.
All of the charges have been filed in Washington and Oklahoma counties,
where the crimes were allegedly committed.
Attorney General Hunter said his office believes additional victims likely exist.
“Unfortunately, when we see a pattern of criminal behavior, as in this case,
there are typically more victims than the ones who came to us,” Attorney General Hunter said. “This individual repeatedly used the same plan of deception
to target Oklahomans trying to repair their homes after severe weather. Taking
advantage of Oklahomans, especially targeting the elderly for personal gain,
is inexcusable.”
The attorney general is encouraging individuals to contact the Consumer
Protection Unit in his office if they experienced issues when working with
Davis or his company at 1-833-681-1895, or email at consumerprotection@
oag.ok.gov.

OSBI ARRESTS MAN ON CHILD SEXUAL
ABUSE CHARGE
The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office requested the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) assist with an investigation into child
sexual abuse allegations. On June 15, the OSBI
began the investigation after the Sheriff’s Office
became aware that a relative was sexually abusing two underage girls. The suspect, 26-year-old
Steven Fortney, abused one girl between March
of 2011 and March of 2103 when she was 11 to
12-years-old. The other incident occurred in the
fall of 2019 and involved a girl that was 15-yearsold. The abuse took place at a residence on Old
Highway 7 in Duncan.
Fortney was arrested on June 18, 2020 and booked into the Stephens
County Jail on one count of Child Sexual Abuse and one count of Lewd
or Indecent Proposals to a Child Under 16. His bond is set at $500,000.

Summer Warning Involving
Children and the Internet
Summer is here and many children are now home alone with
Internet-capable devices. The
Oklahoma Internet Crimes Against
Children Task Force wants parents
to exercise caution when allowing
children to use those devices.
In 2015, nearly 1,000 instances
of child sexual exploitation were reported to the OSBI through the National
Center for Missing and Exploited Children’s Cybertipline, with each case
involving the use of computers, apps, chats, or social media.
Parents are urged to consider the following tips:
• Monitor your child’s usage of electronic devices such as
cell phones, tablets, readers, web cams, and laptops, as well as their usage of apps, games, and social media accounts. Do not allow this usage to be private. Instead, children should use these in open areas of the
home, such as the living room or kitchen.
• Although strangers are a threat, oftentimes children are
exploited by people they know. A large number of child pornography images are taken by the children themselves and sent to others they know or
think they know.
• Utilize device and software parental controls, as well as
safety features available for your children’s devices and apps. Parents are
also encouraged to communicate openly about online activity with their
children.
Young people should be able to identify risky behavior and know what to
do if something bad happens. It is important parents and guardians remain
approachable about this topic – kids should never fear a parent’s reaction more than they fear the misbehavior and/or consequences of people
online.
Ask your child:
• Where do you spend most of your time online?
• What is your favorite app or video game right now?
• Who do you game or communicate with the most?
• How do you decide who gets to follow or friend you?
• What do you share, post, download, upload, and view?
• Can I review your profile with you?
• What would you do if you encounter behavior or communication that makes you uncomfortable?
If your child is the victim of sexual misconduct online or you observe this
type of behavior, immediately report the incident to www.cybertipline.com,
the OSBI, or local law enforcement.

OSU profESSOR arrested after trying
to meet up with minor
A Speech Communications professor at
Oklahoma State University was placed under
arrest after he allegedly used a dating app to
solicit a minor for sex and invited the minor to
his office on campus.
Reports state a Pawnee County deputy was
investigating adult suspects who were contacting minor victims for sex through the dating application Grindr.
65-year-old David C. Schrader, under the
name “Mr. D” on the app, contacted the deputy – who was posing as a 17-year-old male
– on May 11 and said he was horny and asked
if they could meet up.
The deputy told him he couldn’t go anywhere until his mom left for work.
Schrader asked the minor where he lived and offered to host him at his
campus office, which he stated was “very quiet and private.”
When they deputy informed the man of his age, the professor said it was
legal. He described what he wanted to do to the minor.
Schrader asked if they could meet up, and he told the deputy he would
need to be in Stillwater by 3 p.m.
The deputy agreed; Schrader then identified himself as “Dave.” He sent
the deputy a pin to his office address. The deputy also asked for the man’s
phone number.
The deputy met with OSU officers who were able to identify Schrader by
his phone number.
Pawnee deputies and OSU police went to the man’s office and found
him sitting on a couch near a door. The deputy asked the man if he was
Schrader – Schrader said yes. The deputy identified himself and said he
knew that Schrader had contacted two minors through Grindr and was
planning to meet up with both for sexual encounters.
Schrader agreed with what the deputy said. When the deputy mentioned
another minor the man had been speaking to on the app, a 16-year-old,
Schrader said he didn’t make plans to meet up with the teen and wasn’t
sure if he had suggested sexual conduct. He did, however, admit to discussing sex with the 17-year-old.
Schrader’s officer door was wide open at the time of his arrest.
The deputy saw two condoms, a bottle of lubricant and a towel laid out
on a couch.
Schrader is being charged with two counts of soliciting sexual conduct
or communication with minor by use of technology. His bond was set at
$25,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on July 7, 2020.
