It wasn’t exactly a fairytale for a Ponca City man who was found
passed out on a sidewalk. The charming prince that woke him up
was actually a Ponca City police officer, who loaded him in the patrol car and took him to jail.
On the morning of Sept. 29, police were dispatched in reference
to an unresponsive man sleeping on a sidewalk. The man had obviously partied a little too hard the night before because it took the
officer several attempts before he was able to wake the man up, according to the affidavit. The officer helped him stand up and asked
him some questions, but the man was obviously intoxicated and his
speech was unintelligible. The man, later identified as Aaron Levell
Simmons, 21, had a strong odor of alcohol coming from his breath
and person.
Since the man was exhibiting signs of consuming way too much
alcohol, the officer placed him under arrest and took him to jail.
Once at the Ponca City Police Department, the officer assisted Simmons during the booking process. Simmons had trouble emptying his pockets, but once his pockets were cleared,
the officer found a small piece of tied plastic. He untied the plastic and found a hard substance that appeared to be meth. He tested the substance and it field-tested positive for meth.
Simmons is being charged with public intoxication and possession of methamphetamine.
His bond was set at $7,500, and he is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 3, 2014.

A Ponca City man should have
thought twice before he took three
Xanax and got behind the wheel of a
vehicle. His drug-fueled joy ride resulted in him being locked up in jail.
On Sept. 30, a Ponca City officer was
on patrol when he noticed a vehicle
driving very slowly down the road. As
he passed by a truck, the driver of the
truck pointed at the slow-moving car.
According to the affidavit, dispatch
sent out a call about the vehicle and
said they had been receiving multiple
calls about the car driving all over the roadway.
The officer pulled behind the car and watched as the vehicle
swerved across the line multiple times. He activated his lights,
but the vehicle accelerated and continued to drive haphazardly
down the road.
The vehicle ran a couple of red lights and struck a curb, resulting in both passenger tires going flat. The driver finally lost
control of the vehicle and it spun out, killing the motor.
The officer made contact with the driver, Thomas Keith Jenkins, 58, and placed him in handcuffs. Jenkins had slurred
speech and was unsteady on his feet. He admitted that he had
taken three Xanax.
Jenkins was unable to complete the standardized field sobriety tests and the officer placed him under arrest.
During inventory of the vehicle, the officer found a loaded
pistol under the driver’s seat.
Jenkins is being charged with DUI of drugs and possession of
firearm while under the influence. His bond was set at $10,000,
and he is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 7, 2014.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol
This month’s Tips is less of a tip
than it is a serious request for help
from you, the motoring public. I would like to make a personal
appeal to each and every reader who sees this to help us Troopers
try to eliminate one of the toughest jobs that we ever have to do. It
is something that everyone who drives can have an impact on.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is tasked with the investigation
of motor vehicle accidents on the public roadways outside the city
limits in the State of Oklahoma. In the course of this, we investigate
a huge number of fatalities. For each fatality victim, it is the duty
of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol to personally notify the next of
kin. For each life lost, there is a knock on a door somewhere, where
an OHP Trooper has to deliver news that will forever change the
lives of the person or persons on the other side. Sadly, these knocks
on the door could have been prevented by somebody involved in
the accident. Sometimes it’s the person who died whose unsafe or
unlawful action caused the accident that took their life. Often times
it is not.
Each and every Trooper you see working the roads every day has
had to knock on that door. I think if you asked, every single one
would tell you this is the worst aspect of our job. Trying to prevent
this is one of the reasons we do what we do. We know if we work
hard, we can stop some of these knocks. We also know the motoring
public can help us stop some of these knocks as well. The following
are just a few ways for you to do your part to help.
First and foremost, obey the law. It really doesn’t matter if
your personal opinion of the rules of the road don’t make sense,
or shouldn’t apply in certain situations. Each one of them is
designed for us to travel safely on the road. Slow down, and give
your full, undivided attention to the road. Watch out for the other
driver. When you see something happening ahead of you, slow
down! “I was late”, or “I was texting” just doesn’t cut it as responses
to a grieving family when they ask why this happened. Is it
something you could live with if it was your reason for taking a life?
The people on the other side of that knock aren’t the only ones
affected by the experience. We Troopers have all held strangers as
the initial horror and shock of the news takes hold of them. We
have all prayed with families we just met, and asked if we could have
done more to prevent it. Each and every day we are trying to stop
The Knock. Now I’m asking you to help us. Thanks for reading,
buckle up, and be safe!

A Bartlesville trio was arrested after police caught
them cooking up meth in the presence of minors.
On Oct. 9, a concerned citizen told Bartlesville police
that there was reason to believe that methamphetamine
was being made at a nearby residence.
According to the affidavit, police watched the home
throughout the day. In the early morning hours of Oct.
10, an officer was in the alley behind the home when he
smelled a strong chemical odor reminiscent of meth. He
noticed that there was a fan mounted in the window to
help ventilate the residence.
Since there was reason to believe that meth was being
made in the residence, a closer investigation was warranted.
Police could hear three subjects discussing lithium
batteries, which are commonly used in the manufacture
of meth. Police could also hear a shaking noise, which
led them to believe that the subjects were making meth
using the “one-pot” or “shake and bake” method.
Knowing that this method of making meth is very
dangerous and that there were children inside the residence, police entered the residence.
Police located three adults, Ryan Lee Nixon, 25, Jennifer Suzanne Wilson, 31, and
Amos James Wilson, 33, in the home, along with two
children.
Police also confirmed that the suspects had been making methamphetamine.
Jennifer Wilson first told police that she didn’t know what Nixon was doing because she had been asleep in the bedroom. Since the officer had heard
her talking before entering the residence, he told her that wasn’t true and she
admitted that she and Amos Wilson had been “smoking a bowl of meth” in
the bedroom.
Amos Wilson told police that Nixon was “doing what he was doing” in the
kitchen. When asked what that meant, he said it meant that Nixon “was making meth.”
Police arrested the three subjects and found a plethora of items related to
the manufacture or use of meth in the residence.
Amos Wilson is being charged with manufacture of controlled dangerous
substance/ possession of material with intent to manufacture, three counts
of possession of a controlled dangerous substance and child endangerment.
Jennifer Wilson is being charged with manufacture of controlled dangerous
substance/ possession of material with intent to manufacture, three counts
of possession of a controlled dangerous substance and child endangerment.
Nixon is being charged with manufacture of controlled dangerous substance/ possession of material with intent to manufacture and possession
of a controlled dangerous substance. All three subjects are being held on
$150,000 bonds and are scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 15, 2013.

Like true historic
adventure accounts?
The Bible has them.
Korah learned that
God’s power is greater
than his.
Korah complained
against Moses, but
God chose Moses to
lead Israel. Moses
tells him, “Therefore
you and all your
company are gathered
together against the
Lord” (read Numbers
16:16 in your Bible).
God takes it personally when we don’t honor His servants.
Moses was chosen to lead Israel, but the people grumbled.
They didn’t get what they wanted. We are no different than
Korah and his friends.
We don’t take responsibility to change ourselves, we keep
doing the same things, and when we’re caught or suffer, we
complain and blame others.
What happened to Korah? Read it for yourself in your
own Bible, Numbers 16:28-38. Imagine the horror of this
tragic event! Can history repeat itself? Yes!

A Bartlesville man is facing time in jail after he broke into a home and demanded money and drugs from the victim.
On Oct. 15, a Bartlesville officer was dispatched to a residence in reference to a
reported burglary.
When he arrived, the victim told him that a man, later identified as Bryan Lee
Ward, 34, had entered her residence without permission and demanded money
or drugs.
According to the affidavit, she told Ward that she was going to call the police,
but he took the phone away from her.
She successfully scared away the big, bad burglar with a knife and he fled the
residence.
Two witnesses verified that they had seen Ward at the residence, and one said
that he had seen Ward running away from the residence.
Ward was located a short time later at a Bartlesville apartment. Apparently, he told someone at the
apartments that he had just broken into someone’s residence, and he was running from the police.
The officer placed Ward into investigative detention and found that Ward was in possession of a weapon.
Ward admitted to entering into the residence and taking the phone away from the victim when she tried
to call police. He said he did not break into the residence, and he didn’t steal anything while in the home.
Ward is being charge with first-degree burglary, disrupting/preventing/interrupting emergency telephone call and carrying weapons. He is being held on a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court
on Nov. 15, 2013.

OK Jailbirds is cooperating with the efforts of Oklahoma Department of Human Services to impact the huge
social problem of irresponsible parents who are not paying the child supports ordered by our courts.
If these biological-only parents won’t honor the courts order, perhaps public shame will get their attention.
If you know how to reach any of the Deadbeat Parents found on this page, please call the Oklahoma Department of Human Services
Child Support HotLine at 1-800-522-8014
Importance of Child Support
Children are our future and child support helps make sure they
have a chance at a productive life. Children have the right to get
support from both parents and do not lose this right when a
parent leaves the home.
When children do not receive child support, they can:
Suffer both Emotionally and Physically
Live within a Reduced Standard of Living
Have their Basic Needs Unmet
Become Non-Supportive when they become Parents.
When one or both parents do not support their children,
taxpayers often pay the cost of raising children. When children
receive public assistance and their parents pay no child support,
all taxpayers bear the cost of supporting the children.

A woman in Florida got so excited after stealing
a family’s Apple technology that she decided to take
some selfi es of her own. She had stolen an iPad
and an iPod Touch out of their car while they were
visiting one of Florida’s regional parks. Apparently
not realizing that photos taken on an Apple device
will show up on the computer, her selfi es surfaced
on the family’s iCloud account two weeks later. All of
these pictures are able to be located geographically.
A middle-aged man was stopped by police as he
rode his horse down the streets of Colorado. Why?
He was seen hitting the horse, but told the police
there was a fl y on his head. Further investigation
revealed that he had a small gun, a pug (yes, you
understood correctly), and beer cans in tow. Not
surprisingly, he failed an intoxication test and was
charged with animal cruelty, possession of weapons,
and drunk riding.
Have you ever accidentally gotten high? Like,
you thought it was a normal brownie, or normal
mushrooms. But nope, turns out you’re absolutely
tripping. Good luck explaining that one to the
police. The only thing less convincing than that is…
”accidentally” growing marijuana on your property.
This is exactly what happened to a 73 year old man,
who claims he found the seeds in a random box and
decided to plant them. Lo and behold, up grows
some weed. The man showed no sign of being a
pot smoker, yet paid the $200 dollar ticket without
argument anyway. Hopefully he’ll stay away from
mystery seeds from now on.
How impatient do you get when waiting for your
food to microwave? Worse yet is when you fi nally
think it’s done, but the plate is a burning fi re disc
from the sun’s core and your food could have been
found in the fur of a frozen wooly mammoth from
the arctic. How mad would you get? Hopefully not
angry enough to use the microwave as a weapon, like
a guy in St. Louis. A 43 year old man and a 36 year
old man got into a heated argument over “personal
matters”, resulting in a knife being pulled and a
microwave oven being thrown. Both were admitted
to the hospital with serious forehead wounds. I
don’t remember these being part of the Easy Mac
directions???
We’ve all seen those movies about crazy people
who believe demons live in their house, right?
Terrifying stuff , but the demons are probably more
scared of you than you are of them. Just…grab a
big shoe. And kill all the fl ies so they have nothing
to eat. Oh. Maybe I’m thinking of something else,
something scarier. One guy in Arizona was so
freaked out he almost burnt down the house. With
his roommates still home, he started a fi re in his
bedroom closet where he believed they were hiding.
He used paint thinner, and is reported to have been
reciting Bible verses. He said he had planned to tell
the police but forgot, and he was admitted to the
hospital with burns on his feet. The important thing
is, the house is now 100% demon free.

Oklahoma County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a substitute
teacher after students reported she was intoxicated and passed
out in a classroom office at Millwood High School.
April Chamberlain, 30, was supposed to be acting as a
substitute in a biology class. Students said she appeared
disoriented and used profanity. When students found
Chamberlain asleep in the office, they contacted a coach, who
informed the principal.
The principal said after she repeatedly shouted and tapped
Chamberlain on the shoulder, the substitute woke up. The principal said
Chamberlain had blood-shot eyes and smelled strongly of alcohol.
When a deputy arrived, she saw an open bottle of Canadian Whisky in
Chamberlain’s purse. The deputy also noted Chamberlain kept slurring and was
unsteady on her feet.
Chamberlain was arrested and booked into the Oklahoma County jail for public
drunkenness.

More than 100,000 children and youth in the
U.S. foster care system are awaiting permanent
families. National Adoption Month is a time to
raise awareness about the adoption of children
and youth from foster care.
The Children’s Bureau in partnership with
AdoptUSKids and Child Welfare Information
Gateway sponsors the initiative each November
as a way to focus public attention on the urgent
need for adoptive families for children and
youth waiting in foster care for a permanent
family. This year’s focus, “Partnering for Permanency,” builds on the social media theme
from last year. A special web page on Information Gateway’s website helps child welfare
professionals, prospective adoptive parents, and youth partner for permanency. The website
contains resources, stories, and videos on topics such as getting started with social media,
how to build a recruitment campaign, and how social media impacts child welfare and
adoption. The website can be found at http://www.childwelfare.gov/adoption/nam.

A Pawhuska woman was arrested
for her second DUI after police caught
her driving drunk around the streets of
Pawhuska.
On Oct. 12, a Pawhuska officer was on
patrol when he noticed a truck driving
with a defective headlight.
He initiated a traffic stop and made
contact with the driver, Charity Danielle
Harper, 38, and her female passenger.
Harper told the officer that her friend
was sick and needed medical help. The
officer called EMS to come check out the sick passenger.
According to the affidavit, the officer knew from previous incidents that Harper was driving with a suspended license.
He could smell a strong odor of alcohol on Harper’s breath
and person; she also had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and
was swaying from side to side while standing.
The officer asked Harper if she had been drinking and she told
him she drank the night before and that morning but hadn’t had
any alcohol that night.
EMS arrived to check on Harper’s sick passenger, but the passenger refused to be transported to the hospital.
Dispatch confirmed that Harper’s license was suspended. The
officer placed her under arrest and transported her to jail.
Once at the jail, the officer performed a standardized field sobriety test and confirmed that Harper was under the influence
of alcohol.
Harper is being charged with driving a motor vehicle while
under the influence of alcohol and driving while privilege to
drive is revoked. Her bond was set at $10,000 and she is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 24, 2013.

Registered Sex Offenders for The Area
FACT:
If someone sexually assaults an adult, he
will not target children as victims, and if
someone sexually assaults a child, he will
not target adults.
False. Research and anecdotal evidence
indicate that while some sex offenders
choose only one type of victim (e.g.,
prepubescent girls, post-pubescent boys,
adult women, etc.), others prey on different
types of victims. Therefore, no assumptions
should be made about an offender’s victim
preference and precautions should be taken
regardless of his crime of conviction.
The sex offenders
page is not a

of all offenders in
these counties; we
will be publishing
more in each
month’s issue.

A night he soon won’t forget
Rogelio Andaverde, a 34-year-old Texas man, was jailed Oct 10
after he allegedly faked his own kidnapping in an effort to dump
his wife for a night of partying.
According to the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office, Andaverde
and his wife were home at around 10:30 p.m. that night when two
masked men broke into their home and kidnapped Andaverde at
gunpoint.
Investigators say the Sheriff’s Office launched a manhunt, but
called it off a few hours later when no leads developed on the case.
Andaverde arrived back home that morning, explaining to his
wife that his captors “just let him go.”
When officers arrived on the scene to interview Andaverde,
something about his explanation didn’t sound right to them.
Andaverde was taken into custody and interviewed again at the Sheriff’s Office.
He reportedly admitted to investigators that he fabricated the kidnapping because he
wanted to go out drinking with his friends.
“I don’t think his wife appreciated being kept until 4 or 5 in the morning, being interviewed
by the cops while her husband was out doing who knows what with who knows who,” said
Hidalgo County Sheriff, Guadalupe Trevino. “He’s going to have a lot of answering to do.”
Andaverde was booked into jail and charged with making a false report to police. He was
released after posting $5,000 bail.

A Jennings man was arrested for pointing a
gun at his brother after an altercation at their
residence.
According to the affidavit, a man spoke to a
Pawnee County deputy and told him that he,
his son, his brother and his brother’s friend
were at their house shooting BB guns before
things got ugly. The man’s brother, Robert
Kitt Davis, 45, was allegedly yelling at the victim’s son. The victim told his brother that he
was going to move out.
The man and his son began to pack up their things. Davis allegedly
approached his brother with a handgun and stuck it to his side. The
victim said Davis acted like he was going to pull the trigger.
The deputy went to the residence to get Davis’ side of the story, but
he was no where to be found. A short while later, the deputy observed
a vehicle being driven that matched the description of the suspect.
The deputy followed the truck, which pulled into the residence where
the assault occurred.
The deputy ordered the man to the ground and placed him in
handcuffs. The man identified himself as Davis and agreed to speak
to the deputy.
The deputy asked him where the handgun was. Davis at first denied the gun, but eventually admitted that he had taken it to his father-in-law’s house. Davis said he had pointed the gun at his brother,
because his brother had pointed a knife at him. He said he didn’t call
the police, because he didn’t want to call the police on his brother
even though his brother had called the police on him.
Davis agreed to take a standardized field sobriety test but failed
miserably.
The deputy obtained the handgun from the man’s wife and transported Davis to jail.
Davis is being charged with domestic assault and battery with a
dangerous weapon and driving a motor vehicle under the influence
of alcohol. He is being held on a $20,000 bond and is scheduled to
appear in court on Nov. 5, 2013.

Oklahoma couple Elizabeth Pester, 33, and Mark Knapp,
48, have been jailed after they nearly starved their 3-year-old
daughter to death while they allegedly immersed themselves in
an online video game.
Second Life, an online 3d world where players can create an
entirely new virtual identity and then interact with other players
using that identity, became more than a game to Elizabeth
Pester and Mark Knapp.
It almost became a death sentence for the couple’s 3-year-old
daughter, who withered away while her parents spent the bulk
of their time on a computer, pretending to be a married couple in their new virtual world.
According to police, the problem began almost immediately after the child’s birth.
Investigators say DHS agents took the couple’s newborn into protective custody just a couple of
weeks after her birth. Case workers noted that Pester and Knapp had refused to spend much time with
the newborn, and the child was having feeding issues as a result.
In 2011, the child was returned to her parents in healthy condition, however it didn’t take long before
the feeding issue returned, and in a far more severe way.
In June, 2012, the little girl was taken to a local hospital where she weighed just 13 pounds and
appeared seriously malnourished. DHS responded by referring the child’s parents to a therapist who
would weigh the child on a weekly basis. That therapist saw the child just four times and weighed the
child twice over a five month period, according to court documents.
Pester and Knapp have been booked into the Tulsa County jail and charged with child abuse and
neglect. Bond has been set at $50,000 each.
