Eye for an eye
A Blackwell man was locked up after he
took the old adage of “an eye for an eye” to
heart and attacked a man because the man
had previously assaulted him.
According to the police report, a Blackwell police officer was dispatched to a residence on June 30 in reference to a man
breaking into the house and assaulting the
male occupant. The victim’s girlfriend told
the officer that she and the victim were in
the kitchen eating when Keith Lee Haught,
28, burst into the kitchen.
He was holding a large stick and said, “You deserve this mother f--
---“ before striking the victim in the head with a stick.
Haught allegedly repeatedly punched the victim and knocked him
to the ground. He kicked him before running out the front door of
the residence.
The officer observed large amounts of blood and a large stick with
blood splatters in it on the kitchen floor.
The victim told police that he and another man had had an altercation with Haught earlier that day. He explained that they assaulted
Haught with a shovel and left him stranded on a dirt road somewhere
outside of Blackwell.
The officer went to Haught’s residence to speak with him about the
incident. He echoed the victim’s account, stating that they hit him
in the head with a shovel before leaving him lying on the side of the
road.
Haught said he was mad at what the men had done to him and he
wanted to get revenge. He admitted to going to the victim’s residence
and repeatedly punching and kicking him in the face.
Haught is being charged with burglary in the first degree and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. He is being held on a
$25,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 4, 2013.

Take the long way home
A Tonkawa woman was arrested after police found methamphetamine and marijuana in her purse on her drive home from
work.
According to the affidavit, a Blackwell police officer was on patrol when he observed the driver of a vehicle cross onto the centerline twice and quickly correct back into the lane of travel.
The officer conducted a traffic stop and noticed that the driver, 25-year-old Monica Josefina Ochoa, had bloodshot eyes. He
asked her why her eyes were bloodshot and she told the officer it
was because she had just left work at a bar in Tonkawa.
She added that she had picked up her son from the babysitter’s
house and was on her way home.
As the officer wrote a warning for Ochoa, he asked another officer to use his K9 partner to sniff around the vehicle. The dog alerted police to the presence
of controlled dangerous substances in the vehicle.
Ochoa admitted to having drugs in her purse and said that all of the drugs she had in the
vehicle were located in her handbag.
The officer opened her purse and found a light bulb with a white residue in the bottom of
it that later field-tested positive for methamphetamine and a straw that had residue at the
end of it. Police also found a small baggy in the console containing a green substance that
later field-tested positive for marijuana.
Ochoa is being charged with possession of controlled dangerous substances. She is being
held on a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 27, 2013.

Do your kids ever fret over the
fact that they “don’t fit in”? We all
feel this way at some point in our
lives. Being alone in a room full of
people is a scary thing. We all want
to belong; to fit in. It’s beyond
instinctive, it gives us the feeling
of safety and security–no matter
what our age. So, when our kids tell us that they don’t fit in, what
they could be saying is, “I’m scared because I don’t feel safe”.
Some kids really have a tough time fitting in for a variety of
reasons. Some kids are socially awkward, and don’t know how
to start a conversation with a peer. If your child struggles with a
physical or learning disability, chances are he/she feels isolated
from the rest of the class anyway. Whatever the reason is, simply
telling them that they really DO fit in, is not as helpful as you’d
expect.
Using God’s Word to Encourage Our Children
Being a Christian parent doesn’t make dealing with these tough
situations easier. But we DO have a resource to back up what we
tell our kids, and that’s God’s Word. When we actively listen to
the pain of our children feeling like they don’t belong or fit in, we
can do more than coach them in social skills (which may be a very
important tool). We can use God’s Word to encourage them even
in these struggles.
Psalm 139:14 I praise you, for I am fearfully and
wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul
knows it very well.
I’ve found the world’s solutions to the many painful aspects of
not fitting in, being teased, or feeling isolated, are superficial at
best and not helpful at all. I mean, sticks and stones may definitely
break my bones–but words really CAN and DO hurt me!
Instead we must remind our children that God, who created
them and therefore knows every nuance of them, has a specific
plan and purpose for their lives. That HE thinks they are wonderful
and worthy of love AND friendship.

Investigation is offering up to a
$3,000 reward for information
leading to the arrest and
conviction of Dawaylon “Hog”
Rainey. Rainey shot and killed
two people August 4th inside a
Hugo apartment complex.
Witnesses inside the apartment
tell investigators Rainey walked
into the apartment and began
fi ring shots. Floyd Devin Clegg
and Qualin Hayden were rushed
to an area hospital where doctors
pronounced them dead.
U.S. Marshals agents, Hugo
police offi cers, and OSBI agents
have been searching for Rainey
since August 5th – the day after

Pets seldom catch much press as
it relates to vehicles, but we have
our pets in our vehicles all the
time. To many, they are a part of the family, and go with us on
trips, to run errands around town, or just out for a ride. Just as we
treat them as part of the family, we have a responsibility to them,
including doing everything we can to keep them safe while in our
vehicles.
This summer, we have been very fortunate in the temperature
department! Only a few days so far have hit triple digits, we’ve had
pretty good rain, and it has been nice. With the temperatures lower
than they have been in the last few years at this time...it could be
easy to forget that as long as the sun is shining, the temperature
inside a parked car can still rise to dangerous levels. Leaving a pet
in the vehicle for as little as 15 minutes can end up having tragic
consequences. Even when the outside temps are in the 70’s, the
temperatures in a closed up vehicle can reach the 90’s or higher. The
best solution is to leave your pet at home. If that is just not possible,
or you choose not to, make sure that your pet has water, and leave
the vehicle running with the air conditioning on. Make sure you
don’t leave your pet for long, because the AC could go out, and then
your pet is stuck in a vehicle that is hot, and is also blowing hot air!
Many people let their dogs ride in the bed of their pickup. We’ve
all seen those dogs with their face into the wind, riding in the back
of the pickup. Please remember that the bed of those pickups are
metal, and even if they are covered by a bed liner or similar product,
the temperature can heat up the bed so hot as to be extremely
painful to your pet’s paws! Again, best solution is to leave the pet at
home, but if take them with
you, use a kennel or crate. This keeps the pet up off the hot bed
of the pickup, and also eliminates the possibility of the pet jumping
out, or even the potential of biting someone who gets too close to
the truck!
Speaking of crates, they aren’t a bad idea for inside the cab either.
Ever see a dog in the lap of a driver? Obviously this is not safe, the
pet can distract the driver, or even interfere with the safe operation
of the vehicle. This puts everyone at risk, so if you are going to
travel with your pet, make sure they don’t contribute to an accident,
and keep them out of the driver’s area!
This a just a few tips. The internet has plenty more, so please

Don’t cry over
spilled beer,
just go to jail
Drinking while driving is a big no-no,
but blaming your beer-soaked pants
on hauling hay is just plain crazy.
On July 20, an Oklahoma Highway
Patrol trooper was sitting in the median of Hwy 75 in Washington County
when he noticed a vehicle that appeared to be traveling faster than the
posted speed limit. According to the affidavit, the trooper activated his radar
and confirmed that the car was traveling 81 mph.
The trooper pulled from the median
and immediately activated his emergency lights. The driver of the speeding car pulled into a truck stop
and the trooper made contact with the driver of the vehicle.
The driver, Christopher Robert Peck, 30, rolled down his window and the trooper noticed that some kind of liquid had been
spilled on the center console, dash and Peck’s right leg. The trooper also smelled the odor of alcohol coming from inside the vehicle.
Peck denied that there were any open containers in the car and
he looked at the trooper as though he was crazy for even asking.
The dumbfounded look continued when the trooper asked the
Bartlesville man for his driver’s license and proof of insurance. He
handed over his license, but told the trooper he didn’t have proof
of insurance.
The trooper asked Peck to exit his vehicle and sit in his patrol
car. Once in the vehicle, the trooper again smelled alcohol. He
went to Peck’s car and retrieved a cold, sweating 12-ounce can of
beer behind the passenger seat. The beer had also leaked onto the
back floorboard.
The trooper told Peck to exit the vehicle in order to conduct sobriety tests. Peck continued to deny it was his beer and said that
his pants were wet from hauling hay all day, not from spilled beer.
After administering sobriety tests, the trooper concluded that
Peck was under the influence of drugs due to his strange behavior
and inability to follow simple instructions.
The trooper placed Peck under arrest and transported him to
jail. According to documents, Peck had a previous DUI conviction.
Peck is being charged with driving a motor vehicle while under
the influence of alcohol and drugs, speeding in excess of lawful
maximum limit, transporting opened container of beer and failure
to carry insurance/ security verification form. He is being he is being held on a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on
Sept. 20, 2013.

David Magnan
David Magnan, 50, who admitted to
intentionally killing 2 women, a man, and
injuring another, was granted a release in
June on a court’s order due to a technicality.
Magnan pled guilty in Seminole County
District Court to three counts of 1st-degree
murder and one count of shooting with
intent to kill on March 3, 2004. He was
sentenced to death by lethal injection.
But Magnan’s conviction was overturned
by the 10th US Circuit Court of Appeals
after it was determined the triple homicide
had taken place on an Indian reservation
- offi cial Native American land where the
state technically has no authority or jurisdiction.
Only federal and tribal laws have prosecutorial authority on reservation
territory - providing a legal loophole in this case.
Therefore, Magnan, a member the Fort Peck Assiniboine and Sioux
tribes, was removed from death row at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary
in McAlester, where he’d been for nearly 10 years.
The judgment came with the presumption that federal authorities will
intercede and re-arrest and prosecute Magnan, given the homicidal
nature of the crimes and admitted guilt in the triple murder and
wounding of other members of the Seminole Nation.
If he is ever tried federally though, it’s likely Magnan will not face the
death penalty as it is rarely imposed in federal courts.
The killings occurred in 2004 inside an inherited Seminole residence,
where family and friends had gathered to celebrate a birthday. Magnan
drove to the home with two other men, where he shot and injured Eric
Coley who’d come outside to speak to him.
Court records state Magnan then entered the house, noticed James
Howard, said “goodbye,” and shot him.
Karen Wolf and Lucilla McGirt were also shot. Lucilla died from
complications stemming from her gunshot wound two weeks later.

Prosecutors have filed charges
against three people after Tulsa
Police found three children
living in filth last week.
Matthew Prior and Angela
Prior each face one count of
child neglect.
Police went to their home
in the 1200 block of North
76th East Avenue on Tuesday,
August 6, 2013 on a welfare check.
According to a Tulsa Police report, officers found the couple’s three children in a filthy
home, with cockroaches, rotting food and feces on the floor.
Prosecutors also charged the children’s grandmother with child neglect. According to
investigators, Janet Marie Friend, 57, is the primary caregiver of three children -- ages
5, 3 and 2.
The children were removed in February because of the filth but were returned in May.
All three are in the Tulsa County jail with bonds of more than $150,000 each. The
children are in DHS custody.

Man arrested for meth in company car
A Tulsa man was arrested after police found methamphetamine
in the company vehicle that he was driving.
On Aug. 1, a deputy with the Osage County Sheriff’s Office noticed a car pull out of a parking lot with the driver failing to use
a turn signal. During the turn, the driver also turned in front of
another vehicle.
According to the affidavit, the deputy stopped the vehicle and
made contact with the driver, 58-year-old Jimmy David Martin.
He asked Martin for his driver’s license and noticed that Martin
seemed nervous due to how he was speaking. Martin was also shifting around in his seat.
During a records check, the deputy discovered that Martin had
previously been convicted for endeavoring to manufacture and possession of controlled dangerous substances.
He requested that Martin step out of the vehicle and asked him if there were any illegal
items in the vehicle. Martin said none that he knew of; he told the deputy that the vehicle
belonged to a company that he worked for and granted him permission to search the vehicle.
During the search, the deputy found a small baggy that contained a white crystal-like substance that later field-tested positive for meth. The deputy asked Martin if it was his and the
man replied, “Well, it’s certainly not theirs.” Again, he asked Martin if it belonged to him and
Martin nodded his head “yes.”
The deputy placed Martin under arrest and transported him to the Osage County Jail.
Martin is being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance. His bond
was set at $5,000 and he is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 4, 2013.

‘He’s stealing
your truck!’
The moral of the following account
is simple: don’t steal your friend’s
truck.
On July 29, a Cleveland police
officer was on patrol when he observed a peculiar sight. According to
the affidavit, he saw a red truck pull
out of an apartment complex with
a male hanging from the side of the
truck screaming, “He’s stealing your
truck!”
The officer pulled the truck over
just to check to see if it was in fact
stolen.
As the officer approached the vehicle, he noticed that the driver, Joey
David Chapman, 51, appeared to be fumbling in the cab of the truck.
He asked the Wagoner man for his driver’s license and proof of insurance.
Chapman did not have either document, but did have an explanation.
“I’m a recovery agent and am repossessing this truck,” he said.
When asked for a copy of the repossession order he admitted that
he wasn’t really a repo man; he was taking the truck from a “buddy”
of his.
The officer asked the man hanging off the side of the truck if Chapman was the owner of the vehicle. The man said that he wasn’t.
A man approached the officer and informed him that he was the
owner of the truck. He wanted to know why his truck had been
moved and the officer told him that Chapman was driving it.
He denied giving Chapman permission to operate his vehicle.
Chapman admitted to taking the truck as a “prank” because the
owner owed him money. The officer detained Chapman and searched
the truck.
The officer found a revolver and a glass light bulb with the filament
removed (commonly used to smoke meth). The owner told the officer that the handgun did not belong to him.
The officer searched Chapman and found a small container that
contained a crystal substance that later field-tested positive for meth.
Chapman admitted to smoking meth prior to taking the truck.
He was placed under arrest and transported to jail.
Chapman is being charged with larceny of an automobile, possession of a firearm during commission of a felony, possession of a
controlled dangerous substance, driving a motor vehicle while under
the influence of alcohol and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. He is being held on a $20,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 27, 2013.

Shana Suggs, a 25-year-old Haileyville woman, has been
jailed after she allegedly poured gasoline on her daughter’s
head to treat a head lice problem - and ended up setting the
little girl on fire instead.
According to police, Suggs was attempting to treat her
5-year-old daughter’s head lice problem when she brought
the little girl into a bathroom and began pouring gasoline
over her head.
Investigators say a nearby water heater ignited on the gasoline fumes, which set both Suggs and the little girl on fire.
Sugg’s boyfriend reportedly heard screams coming from
the bathroom and used a jacket to smother out the flames -
but not before the little girl was severely burned.
Prosecutors say the child suffered second and third-degree
burns to more than 60 percent of her body. Although the
incident occurred in January, the girl continues to receive burn treatments at a Tulsa
burn center and a Texas Shriner Hospital.
After a long investigation, Suggs was booked into the Pittsburg County Jail and charged
with child abuse by injury. Her case is expected to go to trial in January.

A South Carolina man was caught rubbing
buttered toast all over his neighbor’s SUV
window. Seems like a foolproof plan, how did
he get caught? According to MSN, He just
dropped the toast a few feet away from the
car and made his departure, causing a nearby
woman to notice and call the police. The police charged the now hungry man with “malicious damage to property” and estimated the
cost of damage to be about $1.
What’s the hottest you’ve ever been? Temperature-wise of course, because if it was in
physical terms, we all know we were the hottest at our 5th grade, bowl-cut, chubs stage.
But really, to what extent would you go to cool
off?
Hopefully not so far you’d get arrested, but
this is exactly what a group of four young men
in Germany did. On a hot day, they decided to
make their own pool in a car. In a BMW no
less. A policeman noticed a very strange convertible driving down the road. Upon closer
viewing, it appeared that the bathing-suit
clad men were splashing around in the waterfi lled car, clearly intoxicated. Though there
was no law against driving around with a pool
in someone’s car, they were probably charged
for driving without a permit. Talk about hot
water.
What do you guys think about sausage? I
suppose it’s better than a hot dog, which in
turn is better than bologna (which is basically
giant hot dog slices?). And no matter what, it
has to be better than Lunchables *shudder*.
No matter your opinion, sausage was a
huge disappointment for this Phoenix man.
He attempted to rob two large businesses,
fi rst an Ace Hardware and then a Safeway. He
put his hand under his shirt to look like a gun,
but the cashier was not fooled and calmly said
“no” to his request for money. Equally unsuccessful was his attempt to rob a Safeway,
which resulted in him being escorted out of
the building. He waited a few minutes before
returning into the store to snag a small breakfast sausage and was therefore charged with
shoplifting. I guess all that failing worked up
an appetite.
