former postal worker charged
with embezzlment
A former postal worker is facing felony
charges after he allegedly embezzled thousands of dollars from the Ponca City Post
Office.
Garrett Franklin Arnold, 57, of Ponca City,
was charged August 1 with embezzlement in
Kay County District Court.
The charge was filed by the United States
Postal Service Inspector.
According to reports, the Ponca City Post
Office began an investigation on January 24,
2017, after they noticed a financial shortage
of over $9,300 on stamps from January 1,
2016, through November 6, 2018. Suspicious stamp void transactions, followed by a
“no sale”, indicated that the clerk, Arnold, was possibly embezzling cash from
the sales.
A surveillance camera was installed and observed Arnold’s activity at the
post office and captured 19 separate fraudulent instances between January
5, 2018, and July 13, 2018.
Reports state a total of $6,852.45 was possibly embezzled by Arnold from
the post office from February 2, 2016, through November 1, 2018.
Arnold also allegedly admitted to investigators that he had embezzled the
cash from the post office.
Arnold was booked into the Kay County Detention Center on August 2 and
released on a $2500 OR bond. Court records show he is scheduled to appear
back to court on October 18 on a status docket.

A Pawhuska man with a criminal history of robbery, drugs and assault, was taken into custody
after he allegedly burglarized a church in Pawhuska.
Peter Thomas Reyes, 21, was charged August
14 with burglary in the second degree, obstructing
officer, and possession of a controlled dangerous
substance, in Osage County District Court.
Reports state someone reported “flashing
lights” around the First Baptist Church to the
Pawhuska Police on August 9. When officers arrived, they found Reyes crossing the Formby’s Oil
and Propane parking lot and detained him. Reyes
allegedly admitted to entering the church and
stealing some items, which he was allegedly in possession of.
Reyes was transported to the Osage County jail and booked. His bond
was set at $5000.
The items were later returned to the church.

Florida woman farts, pulls knife on man who
complained, police say
A Florida woman faces an aggravated assault
charge after authorities say she passed gas in line
at a dollar store and pulled a knife on a man who
complained about it.
Citing a Broward Sheriff’s Office report, the Miami Herald reports 37-year-old Shanetta Yvette
Wilson passed gas while waiting in line at a Dollar
General and upset a nearby customer. The report
says the offended customer and Wilson then got
into an argument “in reference to the defendant
farting loudly.” It says Wilson then pulled a small
folding knife out of her purse and told the victim she was going to “gut”
him while moving as if to attack him.
Wilson was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly
weapon without intent to kill.

Police receive many calls for assistance, but this one was quite unusual. Douglas
Kelly, 49, from Hawthorne, Florida, called the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office asking
them to test the drugs he bought a week earlier because he wanted to press charges
against the person who sold them to him. Kelly’s public defender did not immediately
respond to a request for comment. Police said Kelly told them he had a bad reaction
after he smoked what he believed to be meth and thought he was sold another illegal
substance.
“In an effort to ensure the quality of the drug the suspect purchased, detectives told
Kelly if he came to the sheriff’s office they could test the narcotic he purchased,” the
Putnam County Sheriff’s Office wrote on Facebook.
Kelly drove down to the police station and handed over the clear, crystallized substance for offices to test, and tests showed it was meth, according to the Facebook
post. He was arrested and charged with possession and booked into the Putnam
County Jail. Officers used this incident to let others know on that they are always here
to help test any illegal drugs.
“If you believe you were sold bad drugs, we are offering a free service to test them for
you,” the Facebook post says. “Remember, our detectives are always ready to assist
anyone who believes they were misled in their illegal drug purchase.”
Police in Rhode Island say a man taunted officers, yelling “you’ll never catch me,”
minutes before crashing his all-terrain vehicle in Rhode Island and getting caught by
police. Authorities say 25-year-old Ruddy Rodriguez was among a group of 10 to 15
people driving ATVs and other vehicles erratically on Providence streets. Police say Rodriguez drove through a red light before driving onto a sidewalk, causing pedestrians to
run out of the way. His attempt to escape officers was cut short when he crashed into a
large cement potted plant on the sidewalk. Police arrested Rodriguez, and he is facing
charges of reckless driving, eluding police and property damage.
A woman pulled over by Crossville, Tennessee, officers while riding an electric shopping cart stolen from Walmart, claimed she was just on her way to get a cup of coffee,
investigators say. Police responded around 5 a.m. to a report of a woman driving an
electric scooter in the slow lane on Highway 127. When officers were able to get her
to stop, they said the driver, identified as Sally Selby, claimed she took the cart from
Walmart and was driving it to Waffle House to get a cup of coffee. Police watched
surveillance footage from Walmart and said Selby was observed entering the store at
4:15 a.m. and driving the electric scooter as she shopped. Around 4:40 a.m., officers
advised she exited the business, drove around the Walmart parking lot and then rode
the shopping cart onto Highway 127. Crossville police have not said what charge or
charges Selby will face.
A group of teenagers who used a stolen van to smash their way into a medical marijuana dispensary in Colorado would be better off sprinkling what they stole on pasta
than smoking it. Witnesses said the teens stole containers of what appeared to be
marijuana at Native Roots Dispensary at 3660 Austin Bluffs Parkway in northeastern
Colorado Springs. Except what’s on display isn’t marijuana… It’s oregano, which probably would make you cough if you smoked it but won’t get you high.

all the rage
Cleveland man Preston Lee Wills, 32, was arrested
for allegedly shooting a man during a road rage incident on August 2.
According to the affidavit, Pawnee County deputies
were dispatched to the 1200 block of D&H Avenue at
approximately 4:52 p.m. They found a man sitting in a
large puddle of blood. He told them that he had been
shot by an unknown man and gave deputies a description of the suspect’s vehicle. He explained that he
was shot after a road rage incident with the suspect.
A witness said he heard a gunshot and looked outside to see the suspect vehicle speeding away from
the scene.
Deputies found the suspect vehicle at a bar in the 200 block of S. Broadway. When they entered, they made contact with Wills, who agreed to speak
to them. He said he was driving his mom’s car, and he had driven to the bar
straight from Highway 412.
When a deputy showed him security footage that showed him turning
down Wichita Street, the man said he no longer wanted to talk to authorities.
He was taken into custody for public intoxication.
A gun shot residue kit was applied to his face and hands.
After Wills was arrested, deputies conducted an inventory of the vehicle he
was driving. They found one spent .22 long rifle round in the front passenger’s
side of the vehicle, and five unspent rounds of .339 Win Mag in the back
pouch of the driver’s seat.
Deputies then spoke to the victim at the hospital, who said he was unloading an ice chest from his vehicle when he saw the suspect pointing a gun at
him from the driver’s side window. He said he raised up his hands and told the
man, “There’s no need for a gun!”
The suspect then fired a single shot before speeding away.
The victim was able to immediately identify Wills as the shooter from a
photo lineup.
Wills is being charged with shooting with intent to kill, use of vehicle in discharge of weapon, assault and battery with a deadly weapon and feloniously
pointing firearm. His bond was set at $500,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on October 17, 2019.

20 | SEPTEMBER 2019 WASHINGTON COUNTY Presumed Innocent Until Proven Guilty
The former beau of 53-year-old Deanna Lynn
Simon said he was just trying to end things when
he went to her residence on August 10.
The Vera woman wasn’t having any of that,
however. She allegedly stabbed the man during
an argument about their relationship.
According to reports, the victim lives just south
of Simon’s house. He said he took some beer
to the woman’s residence. They started arguing
because he wanted to end their relationship. At
some point during the argument, Simon stabbed
the man in his upper arm.
She even called the authorities and admitted to
doing it!
The victim fled her residence and went home. He then tried to run from
his home, but officers found him. They noticed a large amount of blood
around the area and the man was given medical attention for his wound.
Simon was arrested and transported to jail.
Simon is being charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. Her bond was set at $10,000, and she is scheduled to appear in court
on September 6, 2019.
