A Hodgen ex-con and prisoner will be in lockup a little longer after police say he got into a fight Feb. 21.
At 5:30 p.m. that day, LeFlore County detention officer Adam Carmack
said he was serving the second cart at the east dorm when he heard, then
saw Norman Daniels, 25, fighting with another inmate in the west dorm.
Carmack called for backup, then went to the west dorm where he saw
Daniels break a broom handle over the other inmate’s face.
After he saw Daniels repeatedly kicking the man and breaking the handle in half, Carmack realized Daniels was going to try to stab the man, so
he stepped in the fight. Daniels threw the broom handle on the ground
when he saw the officer, according to the affidavit.
After the two were separated, Daniels told Carmack that the other man had a sharp piece of
metal somewhere in his belongings and had been trying to hurt him all day. However, the other
man didn’t have a weapon on him during the fight, Carmack said.
Turns out, there are plenty of reasons why Daniels should be behind bars. His criminal record
shows convictions for burglary, possession of controlled substances, concealing stolen property
and firearms possession. He also has a pending charge against him for carrying contraband in
prison. In that case, a jailer said he saw Daniels trying to hide marijuana during a strip search.
Daniels will next appear in court at 9 a.m. March 26.

On March 6, agents with the Oklahoma State Bureau
of Investigation arrested a homicide suspect in a nearly
fi ve-year-old case from Beckman County. Armed
with a fi rst degree murder warrant, agents traveled to
Amarillo, Texas, and arrested Gordon Myson Splinter,
II, 35. Splinter is accused of killing 35-year-old Michael
Smith on April 29, 2008, outside Smith’s home at 400
East Plum in Erick.
The Beckham County Sheriff ’s Offi ce requested
OSBI assistance with the case. Agents worked with deputies for months
until it became cold. Approximately a year ago during an annual review of
the case, agents identifi ed new leads. Those leads helped establish probable
cause for an arrest.
The OSBI investigation revealed numerous people who identifi ed Splinter
as being in the area and running from the area where Smith was shot in the
chest. Smith died at the Sayre Memorial Hospital. The weapon used was a
270 caliber rifl e. A projectile from a 270 caliber rifl e was found at the crime
scene as well as inside Splinter’s home.
With the assistance of Texas Rangers, Splinter was arrested without
incident at his Amarillo home, 3706 S. Harrison that evening. He was booked
into the Randall County Jail and will be extradited to Beckham County to
face the murder charge.

Poteau police officers netted a large-scale drug bust while on
traffic patrol Feb. 24.
Around 3:20 a.m. that day, officer Jerimy Emmert saw a maroon
Chevrolet pickup driving south. The pickup’s tag lights weren’t
working and the driver swerved left of center, so he initiated a traffic stop near the Georgia Place Apartments.
Emmert spoke to Samuel Bennett, 41, the driver of the truck,
who asked to get out of the car to check out his tag lights. Upon
seeing they weren’t working, Bennett started taking all his money
out of his pockets and told Emmert that he was a reserve officer
from Heavener.
Emmert then found out Bennett had outstanding arrest warrants, so he took him into custody. While getting ready to walk
Bennett back to his patrol car, Emmert saw a spoon with methamphetamine residue on the
dash.
While Bennett was in the cruiser, Emmert searched the car, where he found a plastic box
with a meth pipe and $710 in cash on the driver’s side door. The box also had two loaded
syringes and a plastic bag with residue, as well as a pill bottle with crystal meth inside.
In another area of the truck, the officer found $250 and another bag of meth. Worse still,
Emmert found three .22 caliber guns in the back seat. To make Bennett’s night even less
fortunate, Emmert determined the drugs weighed 27 grams, which earned Bennett a drug
trafficking charge.
Bennett has a court date set for 9 a.m. March 26. He remains in custody.

A man was arrested after throwing a brick into
the plexiglas window of a jewelry store...the brick

Police interrogated a suspect by placing a metal
colander on his head and connecting it with wires
to a photocopy machine. The message “He’s lying” was placed in the copier, and police pressed
the copy button each time they thought the suspect wasn’t telling the truth. Believing the “lie detector” was working, the suspect confessed.
Burglars in Maryland tried to cut through a safe
using a Laser Tag gun.
When two service station attendants refused
to hand over the cash to an intoxicated robber,
the man threatened to call the police. They still
refused, so the robber called the police and was
arrested.
Police in Los Angeles had good luck with a
robbery suspect who just couldn’t control himself during a lineup. When detectives asked each
man in the lineup to repeat the words, “Give me
all your money or I’ll shoot,” the man shouted,
“That’s not what I said!”
In a small town of 1700, a student attempted to
rob the local convenience store wearing his letterman’s jacket. He did not realize that he was the
only male named Dana in the whole town.
A company called “Guns For Hire” stages gunfi ghts for Western movies, etc. One day, they
received a call from a 47-year-old woman, who
wanted to have her husband killed. She got 4-1/2
years in jail.
Mexico - A group of drug traffi ckers cleverly decided to use a propane tanker to cross the border

Oklahoma Highway Patrol
Remember that Clint Eastwood
movie where everyone is waiting
for the other person to move, and
it just keeps cutting from one
to the other, and it takes forever and finally someone starts the
action? Ever felt like that sitting at a four-way stop, waiting to see
who’s going to go, or if its your turn? Or maybe you know its not
your turn, but the other driver wants to wave you through, even
though if they would have went when they were supposed to, the
whole thing would have went so much smoother? I see this situation
play out almost every day, so I thought I would touch on the laws
that govern it.
Generally, the issue that holds everyone up at a four-way stop
intersection is the issue of right-of-way. This issue is covered in
Oklahoma State Statute Title 47:11-403. I’m going to try and sum
it up for you. Any driver who approaches an intersection shall stop
as required, and after having stopped, shall yield the right-of-way
to any vehicle which has entered the intersection from another
roadway. Now there is more to that statute, but it deals with traffic
approaching that does not have a stop sign, so we’ll stick with
this. Everyone knows they have to stop, but its who has the rightof-way after everyone has stopped that is the issue.
If you have stopped, and another vehicle has approached the
intersection at approximately the same time opposite you, coming
towards you, and does not have a signal on to turn left, then there
really isn’t an issue. Both vehicles can proceed on since they are
going on in opposite directions, and are not turning. If one of you are
turning left, then the vehicle turning left must yield, because of the
statute that governs left turns in front of oncoming traffic. This one
gets most of the confusion going, because it always seems like the
person who isn’t turning left wants to be the nice person and wave
the other through. This holds up traffic, and isn’t necessary! Right
turns in this situation aren’t an issue because you aren’t crossing
over the other person’s lane of travel.
The next issue is when two or more vehicles meet at approximately
the same time, but are coming from different roadways. In this
case, the vehicle on the right has the right-of-way. If you aren’t the
vehicle on the right, you must yield. This situation also gets a few
people trying to wave the other through, and again, is not necessary
and usually results in holding traffic up!
Four way stops can be frustrating. Hopefully, these tips will help
you in that instance. If you are one of the people waving everyone
through, please remember, the most courteous thing you can do is
to follow the law, yield when you should, and go when you have the
right-of-way!
Thanks for reading, buckle up, and be safe!

A convicted felon got quite a shock after he tried to attack a
Latimer County deputy.
Lewis Ray Watkins, 35, was charged Feb. 20 with possession
of a firearm AFFC and resisting an officer.
It all began on Feb. 18 when Deputy Cullen Fowler received a
tip that Watkins, who he knew as a convicted felon, was in possession of a .22 caliber rifle.
Fowler knew Watkins lived on NE 105th outside Red Oak, so
he decided to go pay him a visit. When he arrived at the house,
he saw Watkins sitting in his vehicle outside. As Fowler pulled
into the driveway, Watkins began to pull out of the driveway.
Fowler motioned for him to stop and get out of the vehicle,
which he did- but that was the last thing Watkins did to cooperate with the deputy.
Fowler gave Watkins several verbal commands, but Watkins ignored him and then charged
at Fowler. Fowler then zapped Watkins with his taser and the scuffle ended as quickly as it
began.
Watkins was placed in cuffs and put in the patrol car. Fowler looked in Watkins’ vehicle
and saw a .22 Ruger rifle in plain sight behind the seat. Watkins was then transported to the
Latimer County Jail and booked. Bond was set at $5000.

OK Jailbirds is cooperating with the efforts of Oklahoma
Department of Human Services to impact the huge social
problem of irresponsible parents who are not paying the
child supports ordered by our courts.
If these biological-only parents won’t honor the courts
order, perhaps public shame will get their attention.
If you know how to reach any of the Deadbeat Parents found on this page, please call the Oklahoma Department of Human Services
Child Support HotLine at 1-800-522-8014
It’s ALL about the KIDS!
Importance of Child Support
Children are our future and child support helps make sure they have a chance at a
productive life. Children have the right to get support from both parents and do not
lose this right when a parent leaves the home.
When children do not receive child support, they can:
Suffer both Emotionally and Physically
Live within a Reduced Standard of Living
Have their Basic Needs Unmet
Become Non-Supportive when they become Parents.
When one or both parents do not support their children, taxpayers often pay the cost
of raising children. When children receive public assistance and their parents pay no
child support, all taxpayers bear the cost of supporting the children.

A McAlester couple was arrested March 9
after narcotics officers busted their homemade drug factory.
Around 5:20 p.m. that day, officer Max
Clark said he received a call from McAlester
police officer Keaton Alexander. The McAlester officer said he was at a home in the city
and needed narcotics officers to drop by, so
Clark called fellow narcotics officer Shawn
Delana and told her the situation.
Soon after, Delana said Alexander saw a
one-pot meth lab in the home, adding that
the officer was writing a statement describing everything he had seen. Alexander was
at the residence to check on Ashlee Bonicelli, 23, after her parents asked police to
check on her. Bonicelli is Austin Johnson’s
girlfriend, and Johnson is the homeowner,
Alexander said.
When Alexander arrived, Johnson tried
to shut the door in his face multiple times,
but the officer gained entry when he said
he needed to talk to Bonicelli. At that point,
Alexander noticed a pump action shotgun and shells were in the
house. When he found Bonicelli, Alexander found a plastic bottle
with methamphetamine inside, rubber hoses and a funnel. Another
shotgun was lying next to the lab, according to the affidavit.
While Bonicelli and Johnson were getting booked, narcotics officers executed a search warrant on the home, where they found a
glass vial with methamphetamine, multiple coffee filters with residue, loose marijuana, 16 lorazepam pills, a measuring cup with residue and a bong. Also, they found two syringes and all the ingredients
needed to make one-pot labs.
Johnson posted a $25,000 bond March 12, and Bonicelli made
bail three days later. They have court set for 9 a.m. April 19.

A gunfight landed an Arpelar man in jail on March 12, just three days after
narcotics officers arrested a relative of his for drug charges.
That day, Pittsburg County sheriff’s deputy Kris Bailey was dispatched to the
side of Highway 270 after receiving a report about a fight. While en route, dispatch said they were receiving multiple calls because one of the people involved
had a gun.
When he arrived, he saw a man who had visible bruising and trauma on his
face, head and arm. The man said Pete Bonicelli, 42, attacked him while carrying a handgun. He declined medical care, but Bailey took photos of his wounds
for evidence.
Two witnesses at the scene corroborated his story and said Bonicelli hit the
man repeatedly with the handgun. Bailey went to Bonicelli’s home in Arpelar after learning he was
there, then arrested him on a complaint of assault with a deadly weapon. Bailey found Bonicelli’s .45
caliber handgun during the arrest, according to the affidavit.
He doesn’t have any prior felony criminal convictions, but McAlester’s local newspaper wrote an
article about him in 2009, which discussed his tour in Iraq and his job as an electrician at the Army
Ammunition Plant. In the article, he said the tour was the most “interesting, exciting and rewarding”
time of his life.
Unfortunately for Bonicelli, assault with a deadly weapon carries a sentence of up to life in prison,
according to his information sheet.
Bonicelli posted a $10,000 bond March 14 and is barred from contacting the victim. He has a court
date set for 9 a.m. March 22.

On July 28, 1999, Paul Howell was fatally
shot in the driveway of his parents’ Edmond
home. Howell, his sister, and Howell’s two
young daughters had just returned from a
shopping trip in Howell’s Chevrolet Suburban.
Howell pulled into the driveway and turned
the engine off . As Howell’s sister exited the
front passenger side, she heard a gunshot. She
turned to see her brother slumped over the
driver’s seat, and a young black male, wearing
a white T-shirt, a stocking cap on his head, and bandana over
his face, demanding the keys to the vehicle. She then rushed to
get herself and Howell’s daughters out of the Suburban. As she
escorted the girls through the carport, she heard someone yelling
at her to stop, and then another gunshot. She got the girls inside
and called for help. Howell’s parents ran outside to fi nd their son
lying on the driveway. His vehicle was gone. Howell died a few
hours later from a single gunshot wound to the head.
Two days after the shooting, Oklahoma City police found
Howell’s Suburban parked near a convenience store on the
south side of town. The investigation led police to Jones’ parents’
Oklahoma City home.
After obtaining a warrant, police found a .25-caliber handgun,
wrapped in a red bandana, secreted in the attic through a hole
in a bedroom ceiling and found papers addressed to Jones in
the bedroom. Police also found a loaded, .25-caliber magazine,
hidden inside a wall-mounted door-chime housing. Further
investigation revealed that the bullet removed from Howell’s
head, and a bullet shot into the dashboard of the Suburban, were
fi red from the handgun found in the attic of the Jones home.
In 2002, a jury found Jones guilty of Howell’s murder and
recommended death. At his sentencing, the judge sentenced
Jones in accordance with the jury’s verdicts.

A former McLoud teacher who admitted to taking sexually
inappropriate photos of young girls, some her own students, wants a
judge to consider probation.
In a written letter submitted to the court, Kimberly Crain blamed
depression, menopause, a persuasive online love interest, an
emotionally absent husband and even hypnosis for her crime.
The former elementary school teacher detailed a timeline of events
that prompted her to plead guilty to manufacturing and distributing
child pornography and to lewd molestation. Crain makes an attempt
to reason with the court as to why she took sexually explicit snapshots
of girls in her class and then emailed or Skyped them to her online
love, Gary Doby, a professor living in Pennsylvania.
“I found myself giving in to all he wanted,” Crain said. “...I wanted to continue to keep him
happy.”
Crain eventually invited several girls to help her decorate her classroom before the 2011-12
school year. The students were invited to her house to eat pizza, and they were taped as they
changed clothes.
“I took some candid snapshots as they played and ate,” Crain wrote. She emailed those photos
to Doby.

Formal charges were filed Feb. 20 against a Eufaula man
who allegedly stole a dryer from an vacant house.
James Hoskins, 61, was charged with second-degree
burglary. Bond was set at $17,000.
According to the police affidavit, Officer Matthew Sherwood was called to a home in the 400 block of North K
Street on Dec. 2, 2012, in regards to a possible burglary
in process. A neighbor had reported seeing a car parked
in front of the house and heard someone inside. As Sherwood arrived at the house, he saw a blue Chevy Cavalier
pull away from the house with a dryer stuffed in the trunk.
He immediately turned his cruiser around and stopped the
car.
The driver, Hoskins, told the officer he had purchased
the dryer from the owner, but after prodding him with
questions and finding holes in his story, Hoskins finally
admitted he just wanted the dryer, even though he didn’t
need it. He still insisted he bought the dryer, though.
Sherwood confiscated the dryer until he could get tot he bottom of the dilemma. After investigating the case and questioning witnesses, Hoskins was arrested on Feb. 21.

John 10:10: “The thief cometh not,
but for to steal, and to kill, and to
destroy: I am come that they might have
light, and that they might have it more
abundantly.”
The thief Jesus is referring to in
this scripture is Satan himself. The
Lord contrasts the work of the devil as
stealing, killing, and destroying, while
the work of the Lord is to bring abundant
life to His people. Notice that the thief
doesn’t stop at one sin of stealing, but
rather progresses on to kill and destroy.
Many people do not realize that what
they think as just taking seemingly little
things can lead to taking bigger things
and ultimately one becomes a thief. The
“little fox” of stealing towels from the
motel, shoplifting small items, keeping
things that do not belong to them, can
lead to a dangerous pattern which could
eventually lead to one being imprisoned for theft.
Shoplifting alone costs our businesses enormous amounts of money which
causes to have to pay higher prices for goods. When a nation stoops to thievery
in any form, it hurts all the people.
in recent news articles, we have seen how thievery on the national level has
jeopardized the safety of our whole country because of people stealing our
national secrets and selling them to our potential enemies. We pray for this
element of sin in our society to be removed.
We, as Christians, know this can only happen through the Lord changing men’s
hearts and giving them power over sin in their lives. We pray for revival in our
nation so that honor and honesty will prevail in our national life.
We must also check our own lives to see if we are failing God by yielding to
stealing and cheating.
