going to the big house
Christina Crystal Hernandez, 37, of Poteau, was sentenced in federal court to 108
months imprisonment and five years supervised release for Possession With Intent To
Distribute Methamphetamine.
The charge arose from an investigation by
the Panama City Police Department and the
Drug Enforcement Administration.
The Indictment alleged that on or about
August 8, 2017, Hernandez knowingly and
intentionally possessed with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of a mixture or substance containing a detectable amount of
methamphetamine, a Schedule II controlled
substance.
“Small towns and large cities all across the country experience the tragic
consequences of methamphetamine addiction on people, families, and communities. Drug dealers profit from the tragedy while the rest of society pays
the price,” said United States Attorney Brian J. Kuester. “In this case the
Panama City Police Department and the DEA made a big impact by preventing thousands of dosage units of meth from reaching the users in and around
Panama City. Because of the work of those agencies and members of this
office, the defendant is being held accountable.”
Hernandez will remain in custody pending transportation to the designated
federal facility at which the non-paroleable sentence will be served.

Three Wichita Men Paid for Athletic Shoes
with Counterfeit Money
Three Wichita men were indicted on charges of
making counterfeit money and using it to pay for
athletic shoes, U.S. Attorney Stephen McAllister
said.
Douglas D. Blocker, 21, Wichita, Cornelius D.
Wilson, 22, Wichita, and Traevon A. McGairty, 22,
Wichita, are charged with one count of counterfeiting and one count of passing counterfeit currency. In addition, Blocker is charged with another
count of passing counterfeit currency.
The indictment alleges the defendants used a photocopy machine to
make counterfeit $20 bills. In one count, Blocker is alleged to have met a
victim at the Towne West shopping center and paid him $480 in counterfeit bills for four pairs of Jordan athletic shoes. In another count, the three
defendants are alleged to have met another victim at Towne West and
paid him $520 in counterfeit bills for three pairs of athletic shoes.
If convicted, they face a penalty of up to 20 years in federal prison and
a fine up to $250,000 on each count.

I think my loved one takes drugs because he/
she feels depressed—but he’s/she’s depressed
because drugs are overtaking his/her life.
How do we know which problem came first?
It is very possible your loved
one needs to find treatment
for both depression and addiction. This is very common—it’s called “comorbidity,” “co-occurrence,” or “dual
diagnosis” when you have
more than one health problem at the same time. Encourage your loved one to discuss
all symptoms and behaviors with the doctor. There are many
nonaddictive drugs that can help with depression or other mental health issues. Sometimes health care providers do not communicate with each other as well as they should, so you can be
your loved one’s advocate (with his permission) and make sure
all of his health care providers know about all of the health issues
that concern you. People who have co-occuring issues should
be treated for all of them at the same time. For more information
see our DrugFacts on comorbidity.
Note: if you know someone who is so depressed that he or she
will do self-harm, there is a hotline that can help: The National
Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255). You are
also welcome to call to discuss your friend’s symptoms and get
advice on how to best handle the situation.

THE PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN!
Medical marijuana has been approved by the people
of Oklahoma, yet our governmental officials and people
who think they know what’s best for us have once
again decided to rewrite what we voted on. What’s
your opinion on this issue?
These comments are only just a fraction we had on our Facebook Page. Read
more by going to our page.
___________________________________________________________________
Ryan S: This was a very badly written bill, and no one wanted to
acknowledge it. So you got what you voted for.
Robert S: I want everything I voted for, no changes just what I
voted for. Go after Meth if you want to help Oklahoma
Matthew M: I knew exactly what I voted for and, if they would’ve
left it alone, there wouldn’t be any problems.
Chris D: Actually Ryan Scott what we voted for was a medication
that had no regulations nor profit margin for big pharma. A natural
solution to the chemicals we have been forced to take. It defined
that we were able to have both smokable and edible forms.
Chris R: The bill was written quite intelligently. The “reefer
madness” stigma is a load of hogwash. Cannabis is far from
dangerous and for the inexperienced the concentrates and edibles
may well be far too potent.
Kris C: Only people who claim 788 was poorly written are
brainwashed with government propaganda. You people are
partially responsible for the opioid epidemic FYI
Rich C: It wasnt written to ban the smoking of the medication. It
was a very broad explanation of how it would be presented to the
public that ill agree with. But making it on the terms they now are
presenting is way off of the presentation that most understood.
Richard J: ...the state effectively kept mmj illegal with their rules,
and that goes 100% against what was voted in. A pharmacist will
lose their license if they dispense, and it would shoot the cost up
dramatically.
Darci T: It’s very simple. The people voted for a policy that gives
the patient and their doctor the power to decide about dosage
and the best method to take the medicine. The patient and their
doctor. The state ruled against the will and the vote of the people.
Whether you’re for mmj or against it, the state has gone against the
vote. It’s wrong and brings the legitimacy of the state government
in question. Mmj is a medicine and people have a right to use it.
Will it be mis-used? Yes. Most good things are misused but we
don’t outlaw them bc of misuse, examples: opioids, food stamps,
welfare, unemployment, SS disability, Medicare, etc.
Erica V: Agree! Well said.
JC J: Actually, we voted for a law that allowed the state Health
Dept. to enact bureaucratic regulations, which is what they are
doing.
Rich C: Bingo
Howard C: And all medicines are regulated which, was called for
in your ballot question
Dylan M: The reason we live in a democracy is to allow those
to vote for their own freedoms, as we should be governed by the
people- not by unelected officials on boards who have ties with the
lawmakers. They knew it would pass, but this is exactly why Mary
Fallin didn’t want to allow a special session in the house, she knew
they would put extreme measures in place.
Mike G: We live in a constitutional Republic ..
Dorothy T: She knew exactly what she was doing when she
appointed the panel she did. She knew what she was going to do
the moment she decided not to hold a special session. I can’t even
put on Facebook what I think of her!

Drug dealer sentenced to
federal prison
Darrell Smith, 56, of Hartshorne,
was sentenced to 60 months imprisonment and 4 years supervised release
for Possession With Intent To Distribute
Methamphetamine. The charge arose
from an investigation by the Hartshorne
Police Department, the Pittsburg County
Sheriff’s Office, and the District 18 Drug
Task Force.
The Indictment alleged that on or about
November 16, 2017, Smith knowingly
and intentionally possessed with intent to
distribute 50 grams or more of a mixture
or substance containing a detectable
amount of methamphetamine, a Schedule II controlled substance.
United States Attorney Brian J. Kuester said, “Local law enforcement agencies and communities deal daily with the tragedy caused
by methamphetamine, while dealers reap the financial benefits. The
Hartshorne Police Department, Pittsburg County Sheriff’s Office, and
the District 18 DA Drug Task Force worked together to professionally and thoroughly investigate the defendant’s unlawful activities. As a
result, the dedicated members of this office were able to successfully
prosecute him and he is being held accountable.”
Smith will remain in custody pending transportation to the designated federal facility at which the non-paroleable sentence will be served.

Stigler man arrested for kidnapping
Jose Luis Perez-Ruiz, 35, was arrested on July
17 after he allegedly held a woman against her will
and accused her of stealing his wallet on July 17.
The Stigler man also resisted an officer when
placed under arrest.
According to reports, a Pittsburg County deputy
was dispatched to a residence near Highway 113
and Parker Road at approximately 12:45 a.m. He
was advised that a woman at the location was being held against her will by Perez-Ruiz.
When the deputy arrived, he saw a man unlocking a gate. He asked the man if he was Perez-Ruiz.
The man said yes, and the deputy told him to put
his hands behind his back.
Perez-Ruiz resisted and jerked as the deputy
tried to place him in handcuffs. He told the deputy
he didn’t do anything wrong.
The deputy took the man to the ground and
the struggle continued. He was eventually able to
place Perez-Ruiz in handcuffs.
The deputy then found the victim, who said she had met the suspect at a convenience store. Perez-Ruiz paid for some of her items, because she didn’t have enough
money. She then agreed to give him a ride home.
After driving through the gate where the deputy initially met the man, the woman
said Perez-Ruiz accused her of taking his wallet. She said she didn’t take his stuff, and
she even helped him look for it.
The man told her the gate was locked. He wouldn’t let her leave until she gave him
his wallet. The woman said he then got out of her car and started taking pictures of her
license plate. He also told her he worked for the sheriff’s department.
While searching the property, the deputy found a wallet on the ground near the
victim’s vehicle. It contained some money and the man’s Consular ID card, which is an
ID given to Mexican nationals by the Mexican government when they are living outside
Mexico.
The deputy noticed that even though his vehicle had stirred up some dust when he
pulled onto the residence, the wallet was clean and didn’t appear to have been on the
ground for very long.
The Pittsburg County sheriff confirmed that the man does not work for his department.
Perez-Ruiz was booked into jail on kidnapping and obstructing an officer complaints.

to catch a thief
A pair of thieves were nabbed after a person told
authorities he had bought stolen goods from them.
Herman Raulston, 36, and Patty Shaw, 46, were
both charged July 16 in Haskell County District
Court with grand larceny.
According to the Haskell County Sheriff’s Department, Sequoyah County Deputy Thomas Stafford
received information from an individual who had
purchased some of the stolen property from Shaw
and Raulston. The log splitter has been located and
owner has been notified.
On June 28, Haskell County Under Sheriff Mike
Buntin and Deputy Jeremy French took a report near
the East County Line referencing several items stolen from a barn. During the investigation, Sheriff Tim
Turner requested assistance from Sequoyah County Sheriff Larry Lane. Later that day, Sheriff Turner,
Deputy French and Sequoyah County Deputy Travis
Gabbert made contact with Raulston and Shaw in
rural Sequoyah County.
During the contact, Shaw admitted to the grand
larceny, which had occurred in Haskell County. Also
during the contact, Methamphetamine and Marijuana was located. Both Shaw and Raulston were
arrested and transported to the Sequoyah County
Jail where Haskell County has placed a hold and will
transport on the charges of grand larceny.
Haskell County Sheriff’s Office is still looking for a red and black log splitter,
possibly a 30 ton, a green Kawasaki 150cc dirt bike, and a Lincoln welder
that was stolen.
Sheriff Turner asks if you have bought anything from these individuals please
contact your local authorities to make sure the items aren’t stolen.
