GILCREASE
A Van Buren, Arkansas, man had an unlucky night at
a Pocola casino on August 1. He didn’t lose his money
on the blackjack tables or bet on the wrong color in roulette.
Nope…
He was unlucky because he got himself kicked out for
a reason completely unrelated to gambling. Apparently,
he was stumbling around and falling into people instead
of minding his manners and gambling his money away.
According to the police report, a Choctaw Nation
tribal police officer was dispatched to the casino shortly
after 6 a.m. to help handle the unruly intoxicated man.
Security told the officer that casino management had
received several complaints about 28-year-old Jason Lee Gilcrease. Guests complained he was stumbling around and running into them.
Casino employees said they attempted to help the man and get him out of there.
Management tried to find the poorly balanced man a ride home, but they said
Gilcrease refused to cooperate. They wanted him off the property.
When the officer made contact with Gilcrease, he noticed the man had slurred
speech, bloodshot eyes, and just like guests said, he was very unsteady on his feet.
Gilcrease didn’t smell like alcohol, however, and he also denied drinking. He
told the officer he had taken some pain pills.
Gilcrease is being charged with unlawful possession of controlled drug with intent to distribute, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and public intoxication. His bond was set at $20,000 and he was scheduled to appear in court on
August 20, 2015.

Two 30-something-year-old women were arrested during
a traffic stop on August 3 after an officer found methamphetamine, pills, and paraphernalia in their vehicle.
And the officer just pulled them over for a defective tail
light!
According to the affidavit, a Latimer County deputy stopped
the vehicle shortly after 9 p.m. on West Blair due to the
messed up tag light. As he walked to the vehicle, he saw the
driver, Talihina woman Sabrine Lea Johnson, 36, turn toward
the backseat and start messing with something in the floor.
The passenger was identified as 30-year-old Lacey Ann
Driver of Quinton.
The deputy asked both women to step out of the car while
he checked Johnson’s license. While he was waiting, another
officer arrived on scene and walked his K9 around the car. The
dog alerted on the passenger side of the vehicle.
The deputy told Johnson that the dog alerted to the presence of narcotics. Police then searched the car. In a bag containing Johnson’s ID, the deputy found a syringe, tourniquet
and partially dissolved tablets.
Under the passenger seat, he found a glasses case containing a baggy filled with a white powdery substance that later
field-tested positive for methamphetamine.
Driver’s purse was in the passenger-side floorboard. Inside
was a metal spoon wrapped in clear plastic with partially dissolved pills.
Johnson’s purse was in the backseat, and police found stuff
in there too! The purse contained more baggies containing a
white powdery substance.
The duo was arrested and transported to jail.
Both women are being charged with possession of controlled dangerous substance and
unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Their bonds were set at $1,500, and they are
scheduled to appear in court on August 18, 2015.

Billy Joe Scott, 34, was caught ridin’ dirty when an officer
stopped him for speeding on August 2. The Fouke, Arkansas,
man had a suspended license and paraphernalia in his vehicle.
A Boswell officer stopped the man shortly after 8 p.m. because he caught Scott speeding through town. When he made
contact with the driver, Scott immediately told him he didn’t
have a driver’s license.
That wasn’t the only thing wrong -- the officer smelled marijuana.
The officer placed Scott under arrest for his suspended license and put him in the patrol vehicle.
In the man’s SUV, he found a metal cylinder with burnt residue, which the officer recognized as a “piece of equipment for
ingesting illegal narcotics,” according to the affidavit.
He took the man to jail and asked if he had any illegal items
on his person.
Scott denied having anything on him, but when he thought no one was watching him, he
took a baggie out of his pocket then threw it to the ground, stomped on it, and kicked it away.
Unfortunately for him, officers were watching.
Scott is being charged with possession of controlled dangerous substance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, driving with license canceled/suspended/revoked and speeding in excess of lawful maximum limit. He was released on a $1,500 bond and is scheduled
to appear in court on September 29, 2015.

McAlester woman Diane Courtney Squyres,
40, was arrested August 4 after she shot her boyfriend in the leg with a 9mm pistol. She said it
was an accident, and she didn’t know the gun was
going to go off.
According to the affidavit, McAlester police
were dispatched to the 300 block of N. Fifth
Street shortly after 8 p.m. to investigate a 911
hang up call. When they knocked on the door, a
visibly upset woman answered the door. She told
them something about someone having a gun and
that he was going to kill her.
Police could hear screaming coming from a
back room, so they made their way through the
house. They found a man and a woman standing
in a room. The man was holding a towel on his right thigh -- he said the woman
shot him.
In the room, an officer found a loaded 9mm pistol.
The woman in the room was identified as Squyres. She told police she and the
man, who was her boyfriend, had started arguing because she wanted to show
him her gun. Squyres said the man was upset, because he was a convicted felon
and wasn’t supposed to be around that stuff.
The woman told police she was holding the gun with her finger on the trigger,
and it just fired. She said she “didn’t think it would go off.”
Squyres told police 911 shouldn’t have been called.
Squyres is being charged with reckless conduct with firearm. She was released
on a $4,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on September 29, 2015.

A Keota man found himself in trouble after he drunkenly dialed
911 and told a dispatcher his brother was dead.
Why would someone get in trouble for that?
He usually wouldn’t -- unless his brother wasn’t actually dead.
Sometime on August 2, 39-year-old Joseph W. Rhodes apparently had a little too much to drink, because he called 911 and told
a dispatcher that his brother was dead in the water at Red Hill
Bridge.
A Haskell County deputy was dispatched to the scene, along with
first responders, to figure out what was going on. En route to the
scene, the deputy was advised Rhodes was no longer at Red Hill
Bridge and was instead at a man’s residence. Also, there was no
dead body at the scene.
The deputy was advised that Rhodes just seemed to be intoxicated. When the deputy arrived at the residence, he saw Rhodes standing next to a fire truck. He made contact with
Rhodes, and the man had some interesting things to tell him.
First off, he told the deputy that he found his brother’s body, and he thought someone had
burned it. Rhodes then changed the subject and started talking about some helicopters that
had flown in and cleared some trees in the forest.
According to the police report, in addition to the man’s ramblings, the deputy noticed that
Rhodes was unsteady on his feet and was slurring his speech.
The deputy placed him under arrest and took him to jail.
Rhodes is being charged with public intoxication and false reporting of a crime. He was
released on a $520 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on August 17, 2015.

Derrick Casey Fry, a/k/a Derrek Casey
Fry, age 35, of Nashoba, pled guilty to assault resulting in serious bodily injury,
punishable by up to 10 years imprisonment, up to a $250,000 fine or both.
The charge is a result of an investigation
by the Choctaw Nation Tribal Police and
the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Fry was indicted in July, 2015.
The Indictment alleged that from on or
about the 23rd day of June, 2015, in Indian Country, within the special maritime
and territorial jurisdiction of the United
States, the defendant, Fry, an Indian, assaulted James Belvin, resulting in serious bodily injury.
The Honorable Kimberly E. West, Magistrate Judge in the United
States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, in Muskogee, accepted the guilty plea and ordered a presentence report to be
completed.
The defendant will remain in the custody of the United States Marshal Service pending sentencing.

18-year-old Daryl Anthony Clark was arrested for
some methamphetamine in his pocket on August 2.
Police found more drugs in the Durant man’s wallet
while he was being booked into jail.
According to the police report, a Durant officer
stopped Clark and his friend in the 200 block of Main
Street around 4 p.m. because they matched the description of some burglary suspects.
During the encounter with the two men, the officer
noticed Clark was very fidgety. When the officer asked
him for identification, Clark just handed over his wallet and said that he had lost his ID.
The officer thought Clark might be under the influence of something, so he asked the man if he could search his person. Clark had
no problem with it, and he told the officer, “Sure, go ahead.”
In the man’s pants’ pocket, the officer found a baggy containing a clear crystallike substance. He asked Clark what the substance was. Clark admitted it was
meth.
In another pocket, the officer found another baggy containing a “larger” crystal-like substance. The substance later field-tested positive for meth.
The officer placed the man under arrest and took him to jail.
Before walking into the building, he asked Clark if he had any more meth on his
person. Clark replied, “Not that I know of, sir.”
He must have forgotten about his wallet.
A jailer searched it and found a piece of foil containing some more of a crystallike substance.
Clark is being charged with possession of methamphetamine. His bond was set
at $5,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on September 9, 2015.
No problem

Coalgate man William Jarel Parker, 24, tricked an Atoka
woman when he told her he just wanted to come in and “chill.”
She was kind enough to let him sleep on her couch, but he repaid her kindness by stealing her truck -- and someone else’s
laptop.
Around 8 a.m. on August 5, an Atoka officer was dispatched
to some apartments in the 100 block of Walker Circle to take
a report of a stolen vehicle. The victim told the officer around
10:30 p.m. the night before, Parker came to her apartment
and asked if he could come in to “chill.” The woman said she
knew the man through her daughter, so she let him come in.
She told the officer she told Parker he could sleep on her couch
if she wanted to. She retrieved some blankets and pillows for
the man, then retired to her own room.
According to the police report, the woman woke up in the early morning hours and discovered both Parker and her truck were nowhere to be found. The vehicle keys that were in the
living room were also gone.
Around 4:55 a.m. that morning, an officer was patrolling on the north side of state Highway 69 when he saw an abandoned vehicle parked at the entrance of an electric substation.
He stopped the check it out and realized the driver was still in the car -- the driver was identified as Parker.
The officer placed Parker under arrest after he was advised the man had an outstanding
warrant out of Coal County.
While inventorying the truck he found the man in, the officer found a laptop.
He had recently taken a report of a stolen laptop. Guess what? The computer found in the
truck was the same one.
Parker is being charged with knowingly concealing stolen property, public intoxication,
larceny of an automobile and unauthorized use of a vehicle. His bond was set at $25,000,
and he is scheduled to appear in court on August 19, 2015.

There is a saying that all good
things must come to an end. I
would like to think that my
monthly Tips From a Trooper articles have been a good thing, and
hopefully put some good information out there. Alas, this will be
my final installment of Tips. A new chapter has opened up in my
career as an Oklahoma State Trooper, and I will be taking on a
new assignment. It took a lot of thought and prayer to come to the
decision to take on my new assignment, and I thought that process
was worthy of some consideration in this final Tips.
When this opportunity presented itself, obviously it was
something that could not be decided spur of the moment. Usually,
when faced with new opportunities, we can experience either
apprehension or excitement initially. Decisions shouldn’t be made
in either of these conditions. A good piece of advice that I received
a long time ago is to sleep on it. If you have time, and we usually
do, take that time, and see how you feel about the issue 24 hours
later. If you still feel excited, or apprehensive, then those feelings
should be further explored!
A great thing to do when you have a tough decision to make is
the old pros and cons list. This tool is invaluable, and was for me
in my decision! Gather as much information as you can to help
you in making this list. If you have one side of the ledger that is
overwhelmingly longer than the other, then you should seriously
consider what that means, and perhaps decide accordingly!
Talk to your family! Many decisions not only affect you, but your
family as well, so you should get their take on it. Be sure and run
down those pros and cons as they may be able to add to the list. It
is important to have your family involved in those big decisions, as
they will be supporting you whichever way you decide.
Last but not least, pray. I don’t intend this to be a religious
stance, but it is part of who I am, and prayer helped me immensely
in this decision. Whatever your belief system is, seek guidance
through prayer.
After going through this process, I decided to accept an assignment
in the Office of Professional Standards within the Oklahoma
Highway Patrol. Taking this assignment was made much easier
knowing that Troop K and Payne County would be in good hands
with the current Command Staff in Troop K. Thankfully, no move
is required, so my family and I will continue to be part of this great
community! I would like to thank each and every one of the people
I have worked with, both OHP and other agencies. I would also like
to thank everyone who came up and said they enjoyed my articles,
you don’t know how much that meant to me!
Thanks for reading, buckle up, and be safe!
Tips from a Trooper

We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money or
favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting
offi cer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.
Thank you and God Bless

AN OFFICER
After Eufaula man Brandon Jay Dickson, 25, was arrested
August 4 for allegedly stealing some gas cans, he was able
to escape from the police car before he was booked into jail.
After a night of freedom running from several agencies, a
helicopter and an airplane, he was eventually placed under
arrest (again) and locked up.
According to the police report, Dickson’s night of fun
started when a woman contacted police around 3:32 p.m.
and told a Eufaula officer someone had stolen some gas cans
out of her garage. She said she saw Dickson riding a bike
in the front of her house, and she thought he might be the
culprit.
The officer went to Dickson’s house to check it out. As he
walked up to the front door, he saw a couple of gas cans that
matched the victim’s description of her stolen property. He
knocked on the door and was greeted by a man with a knife
in his hand. He told the man to drop the weapon. The man eventually did, but he seemed
confused when he did so.
Another man came out of the residence and identified himself as Dickson. Dickson was
visibly upset and was acting nervous. The officer asked the men if the gas cans belonged to
them. They both said no.
The officer checked both men, and he was advised Dickson was wanted out of Wisconsin.
The officer called the reporting party and asked her to come to the property. She identified
the gas cans as hers.
The officer placed Dickson under arrest and took him to jail. Well, he tried to any way.
In the jail parking lot, Dickson slipped his hands out of the handcuffs and took off his seatbelt. He then took off running toward some woods.
A search immediately began shortly after 5 p.m. that involved several agencies, a helicopter
and an airplane. Dickson was eventually apprehended only a few miles away around 7 a.m.
the next morning.
Dickson is being charged with escape from arrest or detention, knowingly concealing stolen property and possession of firearm after former felony conviction. His bond was set at
$500,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on September 10, 2015.

Dennis William Howard, 42, was arrested for siphoning
gas out of an SUV on August 11. The Borger, Texas, man
didn’t even try to deny it -- he said a man at the casino gave
him permission to do so.
According to the affidavit, a Broken Bow officer was dispatched to a residence on Oakwood Drive shortly after 4 a.m.
to investigate a report of someone stealing gas. He was advised the suspect vehicle had left the area and was heading
north on Highway 259.
The officer found the vehicle parked at a truck stop four
miles north of Broken Bow. He saw Howard standing beside the truck. Howard
seemed nervous and wouldn’t stop moving, even though the officer told him to.
After the officer ordered the man to the ground with his gun, he placed him in
handcuffs.
The officer told Howard someone had called in about a truck that looked like
his stealing gas from a vehicle in Broken Bow. Howard spontaneously uttered that
someone at the casino had given him permission to siphon gas from the vehicle.
Another officer went back to the scene of the crime to speak to the owner of the
vehicle Howard allegedly siphoned gas from. Of course, the owner said no one
gave the man permission to steal the gas.
Howard told police a man named “Jerry” or “Joe” at the casino told him he
could.
Howard was placed under arrest.
In the back of the truck, the officer found a 5-gallon bucket that was ¼ full of
gasoline.
The officer transferred Howard to the McCurtain County Jail.
During booking, Howard told the officer his lips were chapped, because siphoning the gas had burned them.
Howard is being charged with petit larceny.
