A Hogden man was arrested December 2 after he allegedly stole a man’s vehicle while he was sleeping, and went to
a casino while drinking beer and smoking weed.
The victim contacted a LeFlore County
deputy and said that he stayed the night
at a friend’s house. When he woke up,
his truck was gone. According to the affidavit, his friend’s boyfriend, 38-year-old
Charles Edward Downing Jr., was also
missing. The victim said his wallet was in
his truck. When he checked his account,
he saw that someone had withdrawn
$500 from the account three different times.
The deputy located the truck heading southbound on Highway 59
just south of Heavener. He stopped the truck and placed the driver
under arrest.
The driver was identified as Downing. He denied stealing the
truck. He said the victim told him he could use it, as long as he
promised not to wreck it.
The deputy placed the man in the patrol vehicle. When he went
back to the truck, he saw an open bottle of beer in the center console. There was also a marijuana pipe in the door panel.
Downing told the deputy that he took the truck to a casino. He
denied using the victim’s debit card to withdraw money from his
account.
When the victim looked in his truck, he said his gun that was in
the center console was missing.
Downing told him to look under the driver’s seat. The victim found
his gun, but he was unable to locate his debit card.
Downing is being charged with possession of firearms after conviction or felony, larceny of automobile, transporting open container of beer and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. His
bond was set at $18,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on
December 17, 2015.

Talihina man Kyle Everett Morris, 24, was
arrested after he told police officers to get off
of some land that he didn’t own.
On December 7, a person who owned
land in the Buffalo Valley area told a deputy
that property owners and workers from the
gas company were having issues with some
people who lived near the entrance gate. The
caller said Kyle Morris and others would go
to the gate and be aggressive toward people.
On December 7 and 8, the Latimer Sheriff’s Department received multiple calls from
people who said they were being harassed and threatened by some
men when they tried to go through the gate on the access road.
On December 9, officers went to the location in plain clothes and
an undercover vehicle. When they arrived at the intersection of SE
210th Road and SE 1066th Avenue, they walked past the gate. It
wasn’t long until they were confronted by a man later identified as
Morris. He asked the officers what they were doing.
According to the police report, Morris was “verbal” that he didn’t
want the officers on the land.
During the conversation, he kept his hands behind his back. He
eventually left the scene, but as he walked away, an officer saw the
butt of a pistol sticking out of his back pocket.
The officers walked back to the gate, but lo and behold, back came
Morris and another man. The man walked up to the officers and
asked whose land they were coming to. An officer explained the situation and told the men that they had no right telling him he couldn’t
be on the road.
The men started walking away, but one turned around and told
the officers, “I hope you got all that on your camera.”
An officer took off his jacket to show his sheriff’s department uniform. The officers identified themselves and approached the men.
They searched them both. An officer found a pistol and a firearm on
Morris. He was placed under arrest and transported to jail.
Morris is being charged with carrying weapons. He was scheduled
to appear in court on December 10, 2015.

Three arrests were made involving the homicide of a man
whose body was found in Dow Lake near Haileyville on December 8.
A family member of the possible victim, 18-year-old Christopher Itrich, set up a gofundme account for his funeral
expenses, stating, “It is believed that he was beaten, then
strangled, then his unconscious body was held under water
until he was dead.”
McAlester police officers and Pittsburg County sheriff’s deputies arrested a 15- year-old male on East Ashland
in McAlester the next day. The juvenile was arrested on a
complaint of first degree murder. The juvenile, 15-year-old
Samuel Scharbach, was charged as an adult on December 10.
A 21-year-old woman was also arrested by an OSBI agent
and deputy during a traffic stop at Business 69 Highway
north of McAlester. Jodi Langham (Ward) was booked into
the Pittsburg County jail on a complaint of accessory to murder.
OSBI agents with help from McAlester police officers and
Pittsburg County deputies arrested a third person. Jonathan
Flowers, 23, was arrested in the 200 block of West Madison Street in McAlester.
He was booked into the Pittsburg County jail on a complaint of first degree murder.
The family member also stated on the gofundme page, “… these callous young
people left his body in the water and went home, later bragging to others about
what they had done.”
OSBI continues to investigate the homicide and will release the victim’s name
as soon as a positive identification has been made.

An Antlers couple who stole together went
to jail together on December 3 after they admitted to jacking items from the Dollar General.
The man also had a baggy full of pills in
his pocket.
An Antlers officer was dispatched to the
store in the 300 block of West Main at approximately 8:38 p.m. for due to some possible shoplifters, according to the police report. The officer walked inside the store and
made contact with the suspects, identified as
Robbie Sutterfield, 31, and 34-year-old Tammy Lynn Scott. He told them why he was
there, then asked if he could search them for
any stolen items.
Sutterfield told him he didn’t have anything, but sure.
The officer found two cans of Red Bull
shoved down the front of the man’s pants
and a bag containing several pills, including
hydrocodone and Xanax, in the man’s pockets.
When the officer asked Scott if she had anything on her, she pulled
out two packages of pens and some hair ties out of her shirt.
The store manager told the officer she wanted to file charges against
the duo for shoplifting. The couple was arrested and transported to
jail.
Scott is being charged with larceny of merchandise from retailer.
Her bond was set at $500.
Sutterfield is being charged with unlawful possession of controlled
dangerous substance without a prescription and larceny of merchandise from retailer. His bond was set at $5,000. They are both scheduled to appear in court on January 20, 2016.

A Grant man was
arrested December 9
after he admitted to
taking a washer and
dryer from his aunt’s
property.
32-year-old Brandon Tyler Sam told police that he only took
the items to his house
so he could keep them
safe.
According to the affidavit, a woman told a Choctaw County deputy that a family member, identified as Sam, was seen leaving her mother’s property the
day before with a washer and dryer. While she was filling out a statement, Sam called her. She put the call on speakerphone.
The deputy heard Sam admit that he had the washer and dryer. He
said he had permission to take them. But, he agreed to return them.
The deputy went to the location to wait for the man.
The owner of the washer and dryer told the deputy Sam didn’t have
permission to take them and she wanted to press charges.
When Sam arrived, the officer asked him if he took the items without permission. Sam said he came to the property to check on some
game cameras. He noticed that someone had tried to take his aunt’s
washer and dryer. So, he loaded up the items and took them to his
home for safekeeping.
When the officer asked him why he didn’t tell the owner he took
them, Sam said he just didn’t think it was a big deal.
The officer placed the man under arrest and transported him to
jail.
Sam is being charged with burglary in the second degree. His bond
was set at $10,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on January 26, 2016.

McCurtain woman Cheryl Watts, 48, was
locked up after she tore up her house, attacked her husband, and threatened to kill
some people on December 5.
According to the police report, the woman’s husband called McCurtain police
around 10:30 p.m. and told them to come
to his house. He said his wife was destroying
their home.
When officers arrived, they found that
Watts had indeed done some damage. There
was a hole in the door where she kicked it in,
and things were thrown around the house.
While the husband was showing police the results of his wife’s tirade, she met them at the
laundry room door with a knife in her hand. An officer asked her to put the knife down. She
obeyed, but told police she didn’t do anything wrong and her husband was lying.
Watts started getting agitated. The officer warned her that if she didn’t calm down, he
would place her in handcuffs.
She didn’t calm down -- and she smelled like alcohol. She ran to the kitchen instead.
An officer followed. When he tried to put her in handcuffs, she elbowed him in the face. She
then ran from the officer and grabbed a grate from the gas stove. She managed to hit three
officers with it until one took her down to the ground.
After a brief struggle, they placed the woman in handcuffs.
As the officers were escorting the angry woman out of her house, she kicked her husband
right between the legs. When they pulled her away from her spouse, she kicked an officer in
the knee.
Officers eventually got the woman to the car and put leg shackles on her. Even though she
couldn’t physically assault the officers, she continued her attack with verbally abusive statements. She threatened to kill the officer’s wives. She also said she would kill her husband and
burn the house down.
She refused to answer questions during booking, and she was placed in an isolation cell.
Watts is being charged with two counts of assault and battery on police officer, threaten to
perform act of violence and public intoxication. She was released on a $25,000 bond and is
scheduled to appear in court on December 15, 2015.

51-year-old William Edward Willis went to jail after he
trashed a neighbor’s truck and threatened to shoot the neighbor’s dogs.
On December 3, Durant officers were dispatched to the 300
block of Gates Avenue to investigate the situation at approximately 6:55 p.m., according to the affidavit. When they arrived,
they saw a man later identified as Willis standing on his front
porch and yelling obscenities. He accused his neighbor of stealing his gun.
Willis refused to calm down and told police he’d been arguing with his neighbor. He said the neighbor’s dogs wouldn’t
stop barking, so he grabbed his BB gun and threatened to shoot
the animals.
Willis smelled like booze and he was having trouble maintaining his balance.
Willis kept crying. He told the officer, “I’m gonna take 40 dollars out of his ass.” He explained that the gun cost $20 at Walmart, so he was going to “take double from his ass.”
The neighbor said he didn’t take the gun. He did, however, call the police when he saw Willis standing outside with the firearm.
Police calmed the man down, and an officer told Willis to stay at home.
Officers were dispatched back to the scene shortly after 8 p.m. and discovered that the
victim’s truck had been damaged.
Willis was on his front porch yelling, but he went inside when he saw the police.
Officers stepped out of the man’s sight. It wasn’t long before they heard his door slam open
and the yelling start back up. When officers went to confront the man, he had a large knife in
his hand and was trying to get into his neighbor’s yard. He yelled, “I’m gonna f------ kill him!”
Following officer commands, Willis dropped the knife and got on his knees. He was placed
in cuffs and put in the backseat of a patrol car. The victim was standing in his yard, and Willis
yelled at him “When I get out, I’m gonna f------ kill you.”
When they arrived at the jail, it took several staff members to pin the man on the ground.
Willis admitted to grabbing a butcher knife and leaving his trailer.
Willis is being charged with malicious injury to property under $1,000 and public intoxication. He was released on a personal recognizance bond and is scheduled to appear in court
on January 21, 2016.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol
Today, I’m going to discuss who
has the biggest impact on our new
drivers that hit the road each and every day. First, the Oklahoma
Driver’s Education classes and schools across the state are second
to none, and do a fantastic job of educating our young drivers on the
law, and proper way to safely operate a motor vehicle. I would like
to point to some other folks, who I believe have a far greater impact
on how our youngsters approach driving, and address them, and
that is the adults who these young drivers look up to: the parents,
older siblings, and extended family.
If you fit in this category, please pay attention. I believe that our
kids learn their driving behavior not from the Oklahoma Highway
Patrol, other law enforcement, or driver’s education instructor, but
from you, the parents and family. I know I learned that way! Let
me give you some examples.
You are a dad, and for whatever reason, when you are driving
in town, or on a county road, you just don’t buckle up. Maybe
its because you don’t drive fast in these areas, or have a farm tag
and just don’t have to; however, you do buckle up when you get
on highways or go on long drives. The message you are sending is
that when you are in the vehicle there are certain times that it is
ok not to wear your seat belt. If dad doesn’t have to do it, I don’t
either! In fact, at least 50% of all accidents happen on county roads,
and you are more likely to be in an accident within 10 miles of your
residence than otherwise. So the real message you are sending is,
don’t buckle up during the times that you are most likely to need it!
Next, mom gets off work at 5:00, and one of the kids has a ball
game in another town at 5:30. She can get there if she speeds. After
all, it is important to get to those activities, and it won’t hurt to
push the speed just a little. The message you send to your kids
is, its ok to speed, as long as you can justify it! The facts are that
unsafe speeds kill more young people 16 to 25 than any other single
thing! The message here needs to be that its ok to slow down and
show up a few minutes late.....it is much better than the alternative,
which is never showing up at all because you’ve been involved in
an accident.
Please remember, when you are driving, you are setting
the example for someone....and they are watching you all the
time. What message are you sending? I hope it’s the one that says,
I’ll lead by example because I love you, and want to do my part to
keep you safe! Thanks for reading, buckle up, and be safe!

Atoka man David Wesley Jaques,
34, allegedly tried to steal two shopping carts full of merchandise from
Walmart on December 8. He also
tried to use a fake name, but he didn’t
get away with it.
According to the affidavit, an Atoka
officer was dispatched to the store
around 1:30 a.m. An employee told
him that she was outside during her
lunch break when she saw the suspect
push two carts full of stuff to the parking lot. He then left them outside and
walked back toward the store.
The employee approached the man
and they walked back into the store.
She said the man tried to steal $511.37 in merchandise.
The suspect told the officer his name was Timothy. The officer recognized the man from a previous incident and was pretty sure he was
lying about his name. “Timothy” was escorted off the property.
Later that day, the employee called the officer and told him she
believed the suspect gave them a false name. The officer investigated
the previous incident he remembered the man from. He discovered
the man’s name was Jaques, but he also used Timothy.
The next day, the officer went to a residence in the 900 block of
Browne Lane looking for the suspect. When a woman answered the
door, the officer asked if “David” was home. She said yes and called
for him. The shoplifting suspect walked to the door.
The officer asked him why he gave them a fake name. He said David was his adopted name, and Timothy was his birth name.
The officer placed him under arrest and transported him to jail.
The alleged thief also had warrants out of Atoka County and Pittsburg County.
Jaques is being charged with larceny of merchandise from retailer.
His bond was set at $10,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court
on December 16, 2015.

James Blankenship’s first mistake was to try to break into his own
mother’s house. Young James had a go at climbing through the first
floor window, then bolted when he was caught.
It didn’t help that he conducted the botched raid in broad daylight,
but let’s set that aside for a moment, because this story gets much
dumber. When police found James hiding in a crawl space near the
scene and arrested him, the young man was stunned. James thought
he couldn’t be arrested for burglary because it wasn’t night-time.

A Eufaula woman who identified herself
as “Obama” was arrested after she attacked
a police officer and repeatedly uttered
“meth.”
According to the affidavit, a Eufaula officer
was dispatched to a residence off Highway
150 and E. 1080 around 6 a.m. on December 9. Why? Well, the caller said there was
someone at the residence who was acting
like she was under the influence of drugs.
The caller was right.
When the officer arrived, he saw a woman,
later identified as 30-year-old Vamella Marie Banks, sitting on the
front porch. He told her to come to the patrol car. She started walking toward him, but she stopped and placed an item on the ground.
She then started yelling at the officer.
When Banks finally reached the patrol car, she had several items
in her hands. She continued to shout and refused to put the items
down.
The officer told her several times to place the stuff on the hood
of his car. She set a laptop down on the ground, then threw several
items at the car.
The officer asked her what her name was. She said several different words, none of which were her name.
The officer then asked if she had used any kind of illegal drugs.
She told him, “Meth.” She repeatedly said “meth” for several seconds.
He again asked her what her name was. She said, “Obama.”
The officer attempted to handcuff the woman, but she had other
ideas. She grabbed his head and tried to hit him with her fist.
A struggle ensued and Banks was able to get away. Eventually, the
officer had to use his taser to get the woman under control.
On the way to jail, she continued to shout random words and tried
to take off the handcuffs.
Banks is being charged with assault and battery on police officer.
Bond and court date were unavailable at time of print.
