A Poteau man was placed in handcuffs when police found a Crown Royal
bag full of drugs and paraphernalia on
top of his motor on December 3.
Not a good place for illegal items!
According to the police report, a LeFlore County deputy was driving to
assist with a traffic stop on Broadway
Street when he saw 25-year-old Steven Lee Helms. Helms appeared very
nervous, he was sweating profusely,
and it seemed as though he was having
trouble staying still.
Another officer told the deputy that
he had been following Helms because
the man was driving erratically. When he ran a stop sign, the officer
said he stopped the vehicle. He said Helms jumped out of his car and
started looking under the hood. Helms said his radiator was messed
up.
As a deputy approached Helms, he saw a Crown Royal bag lying
beside the radiator. The bag contained two syringes and two spoons
containing a white powdery substance, which field-tested positive
for methamphetamine.
When the deputy asked Helms if he had taken any narcotics, Helms
said he had taken Benzos within the last four hours, and he had used
meth about a week ago.
The deputy placed Helms under arrest, and the man agreed to the
state’s blood test. While medical personnel drew blood from Helms’s
arm, the deputy noticed track marks. Helms admitted the marks
were there because he had recently shot up narcotics.
Helms is being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of
drugs, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to stop
at a stop sign. His bond was set at $3,000, and he was scheduled to
appear in court on December 12, 2014.
Never put your drugs near
your busted radiator!

If you’re going to steal a vehicle, it probably
shouldn’t be your neighbor’s -- especially if he
can see the stolen vehicle from his house.
A Hugo couple was arrested December 2
when they allegedly did just that.
According to the affidavit, a Choctaw County deputy was dispatched to the 2500 block of
E. 2085 Road. A man told him that he wasn’t
currently living at his residence, but when he
returned, he noticed someone had been in his
house. He said all of the keys he stored in a
cabinet were gone, and he also found that a
new license plate that belonged to one of his
vehicles was missing. The man said he saw
one of his vehicles parked in the treeline behind his neighbor’s house across the street.
The deputy located the vehicle and checked
its information; it was registered to the reporting party. No one answered the door
when he attempted to speak with the neighbors, identified as Danny Glynn Cook, 46, and
Tonda Lee Cook, 42, but he returned at 11:05
a.m. with a search warrant. The vehicle and keys were recovered and
returned to the owner.
During the search, police also found 17 firearms.
Tonda Cook was a convicted felon. She admitted that she was still
on unsupervised probation for a 25-year sentence. Danny Cook admitted he knew his wife was a felon. The couple was arrested and
taken to jail.
Tonda Cook is being charged with possession of a stolen vehicle
and possession of firearm after former felony conviction. Her bond
was set at $40,000.
Danny Cook is being charged with possession of a stolen vehicle
and larceny of automobile. His bond was set at $10,000.
They are both scheduled to appear in court on January 27, 2015.

A McAlester woman was arrested December 5 following a vehicle accident because she
seemed to be under the influence of something, and she had pills in her pockets.
According to the affidavit, a McAlester officer first made contact with 56-year-old Donna
D. Camacho shortly after 3 p.m. when he responded to a vehicle accident at the intersection of Strong and Carl Albert Parkway. Camacho kept closing her eyes when speaking to the
officer, and she appeared to be unsteady on
her feet. Her hands kept shaking, and she had slow speech.
When an officer asked her if she was under the influence of anything, she said no, but she had taken Tramadol at 7:30 that morning.
He checked her information and was advised that her license was
revoked.
The officer attempted to administer standard field sobriety tests.
Camacho didn’t do well -- she had to be told several times to start,
and during one of the tests, she kept putting the wrong foot in front.
She also kept losing her balance.
The officer placed Camacho under arrest for suspicion of DUI.
When they arrived at the police department, the officer asked
Camacho to exit the backseat. He noticed she had twisted one of her
wrists around in the handcuffs, and it was now by her front pocket.
Believing she was trying to get in her pockets, he asked a female dispatcher to take a look. When she turned Camacho’s pockets inside
out, two pills fell to the floor. Camacho said they were her father’s
pills.
The pills were later identified as Norco, a schedule II controlled
substance. The dispatcher also found another pill in Camacho’s
pocket. That one was identified as Tramadol, also a controlled substance.
Camacho is being charged with two counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance, driving a motor vehicle while under the
influence of alcohol and driving with license revoked. Her bond was
set at $10,000, and she is scheduled to appear in court on January
2, 2015.

Lawton police made a drug-related arrest after stopping a vehicle for a
burned out tail light.
A Lawton officer was on patrol early morning Dec. 8 when he noticed
a vehicle with a non-functioning driver’s side tail light. Officers made on
contact with the three people in the vehicle. The driver told police his license
was expired. The officers told them that they were going to have their K9,
Timmy, search around the vehicle for drugs.
Timmy alerted the officers to the presence of drugs near the driver’s side
door handle. The driver and his two passengers were removed from the
vehicle and searched. The driver told the officer that he had three syringes
on him. Neither of the passengers had anything on them.
Officers continued to search the vehicle and found a purse with a loaded
syringe, digital scales and a blue baggie with 0.4 grams of meth. Both of the passengers denied
ownership, but the purse also contained a credit card and an Oklahoma Access Card with Mari Morales’
name on it. Morales was the passenger sitting closest to where the purse was found.
The driver was given a warning for the tail light and was cited for driving without a license and for
possession of paraphernalia.
Morales was arrested on complaints of possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
While being processed at the City Jail, a baggie with 1.2 grams of meth fell from her panties. Morales
also had two warrants out of Comanche County.

PHELPS
Wilburton man Thurman L. Phelps Jr, 57, was arrested December
4 when he was found with “a little marijuana” and items to make a
lot more drugs during a traffic stop.
According to the affidavit, a Wilburton police officer stopped
Phelps shortly after 2 a.m. in the 200 block of W. Main because the
man’s truck didn’t have a headlight on the driver’s side. While checking Phelps’s information, the officer was advised the man’s driver’s
license was suspended. The officer told Phelps to step out of his
truck, and he placed him under arrest.
Another officer asked Phelps if he had anything illegal on his person. He said he had a little marijuana in his pocket that he was going
to deliver for someone. He retrieved a plastic bag containing a green
leafy substance that field-tested positive for marijuana.
Phelps refused to talk to officers.
During an inventory of his truck, police found a plethora of items, including fuel cans, Heet
bottles, AA batteries, plastic tubes, coffee grinders with a white powdery substance that fieldtested positive for codeine, digital scales, and two funnels with a white powder.
Phelps was taken to jail.

OK Jailbirds is cooperating with the efforts of Oklahoma Department of Human Services to impact the huge
social problem of irresponsible parents who are not paying the child supports ordered by our courts.
If these biological-only parents won’t honor the courts order, perhaps public shame will get their attention.
If you know how to reach any of the Deadbeat Parents found on this page, please call the Oklahoma Department of Human Services
Child Support HotLine at 1-800-522-8014
Importance of Child Support
Children are our future and child support helps make sure they
have a chance at a productive life. Children have the right to get
support from both parents and do not lose this right when a
parent leaves the home.
When children do not receive child support, they can:
Suffer both Emotionally and Physically
Live within a Reduced Standard of Living
Have their Basic Needs Unmet
Become Non-Supportive when they become Parents.
When one or both parents do not support their children,
taxpayers often pay the cost of raising children. When children
receive public assistance and their parents pay no child support,
all taxpayers bear the cost of supporting the children.

On the last Saturday of
deer gun season, Lt. Arthur Joe Young, of Atoka
County, discovered several bear tracks. They were
located near Signal Mountain on the Three Rivers WMA near the Pushmataha and McCurtain
County line.
Wardens Eric Barnes, of Pushmataha County, and Mark Hannah,
of McCurtain County, joined Lt. Young in investigating the tracks.
The wardens concurred that there were at least 3 different bear, possibly a sow and two cubs.
Oklahoma has had a bear season since 2009 with many successful hunters bagging many good bears. For bear season rules, regulations, and season dates, visit the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife
Conservation's website at www.wildlifedepartment.com — at Signal

An Atoka man and his loyal friend were arrested December 9
when police found a bag of methamphetamine near their vehicle.
At approximately 10:15 p.m., an Atoka officer heard a deputy ask
dispatch if 38-year-old Justin Lyle Manion of Wardville had any
warrants for his arrest. Dispatch advised that he did.
The officer saw a vehicle matching Manion’s vehicle driving south
on Oregon. As the vehicle neared the stop sign at Eighth and Oregon, the officer turned on his lights, according to the affidavit. The
vehicle continued to drive about 30 yards before coming to a stop.
The officer noticed both the driver’s and passenger’s windows
were down, even though it was cold outside. He approached the
driver’s side window and asked the driver if he was Manion. The
man said yes.
The officer told him he had a warrant for his arrest, and he asked
him to step out of the truck. The officer placed him in handcuffs.
The passenger in Manion’s vehicle was identified as Atoka man
David Edward Ainsworth, 51.
He didn’t have any warrants.
During the stop, Ainsworth kept wanting to talk to Manion, even
though he had been told several times by police that he was free
to go. Officers even offered him a ride, but he told them he would
just walk. It seemed like he didn’t want to leave the area for some
reason.
During an inventory of the truck, an officer found a black bag
containing smaller baggies with a white, crystal-like substance laying on the ground about 10 feet from the truck. The bag was still warm as though it hadn’t
been outside for long; the temperature was 39 degrees outside. The substance later tested
positive for meth. Manion and Ainsworth both denied knowing anything about the bag, but
they were both taken to jail.
When they first arrived to the jail, Ainsworth was allowed to make two phone calls. A dispatcher heard him say, “They found a little bit of stuff on us.”
Manion is being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance. He was released on a $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on December 17, 2014.
Ainsworth is being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance. His bond
was set at $100,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on December 17, 2014.

DUI
Nineteen-year-old Tyler Raphael Wilson of Muskogee led police on a highspeed chase when an officer tried to stop
him for his erratic driving. His excuse
was that he was trying to get the car home
to his girlfriend. Weird, because a woman
jumped out of the car at the beginning of
the chase.
On November 25 at approximately
11:30 p.m., a Checotah officer saw a vehicle driving erratically down East Gentry.
He saw the vehicle swerve onto the shoulder of the road and across the center line multiple times, according to the affidavit. When the car traveled through the stoplight
at Gentry and Broadway, the officer turned on his lights.
The driver, identified as Wilson, wasn’t having any of that. He
stopped several blocks later, but only long enough to let a woman jump out of the passenger side of the car.
Wilson then sped off and turned onto Highway 169, where he
reach speeds in excess of 100 mph, forcing other cars off the
road.
The officer chased Wilson into Muskogee city limits. Wilson
briefly slowed down as he exited onto Peak Boulevard, but he
sped off again, reaching 102 mph.
Muskogee police had set up a roadblock, but Wilson drove
around it. He turned south onto Country Club Road, running
another car off the road.
Wilson turned into a driveway, jumped out of the car and laid
down on the ground. He told police he was just trying to get the
car home to his girlfriend. That didn’t matter— the officer placed
the man under arrest and took him to jail.
Wilson is being charged with endangering others while eluding/attempting to elude police officer and reckless driving. His
bond was set at $5,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court
on January 29, 2015.
Get the car home, now!

Wardens in District 3(Southeast), conducted
special emphasis operations due to many complaints of road hunting at the end of the first
week of deer rifle season.
Wardens Kenny Lawson, Dru Polk, and
Mark Hannah, of McCurtain County, ran a
decoy deer operation on Red Slough Wildlife
Management Area on the evening of Nov. 29.
They were assisted by Reserve Warden Dakota
Christian and U.S. Forest Service Law Enforcement Officer Joshua Collins.
Red Slough WMA is closed to deer rifle hunting.
Just before sunset, a truck was traveling at speeds below 5 mph. The vehicle approached
the decoy and stopped. The passenger shot from the vehicle. Both alleged occupants were
charged for various hunting offenses.
Later that evening, the officers moved their operation to the Three Rivers Wildlife Management Area. They were assisted by Wardens Jay Harvey and Jim Gillham, of Choctaw County.
Several citations were written for transporting loaded firearms on the area.
As the operation continued, Warden Lawson received a call of someone spotlighting near
the airport, south of Broken Bow. Lawson went to the area parked. Soon Lawson spotted a
vehicle shinning a powerful light in a field. The driver was stopped and had a high powered
rifle and three different powerful lights. The alleged offender was cited.
