A Keota man who fled the scene of a collision in
Haskell County was arrested November 15 after he admitted to using meth and marijuana before the wreck.
According to the police report, a state trooper was
dispatched to a two-car collision at the intersection of
Cowshed Crossing Road and Wayne Road shortly after
5 p.m. During the investigation, he was advised that
a passenger in one of the vehicles had left the scene.
The passenger was identified as 27-year-old Timothy
Shane Maines.
The trooper located Maines and noticed that the
man was “extremely animated and easily agitated.”
There were other clues to drug use as well. The man’s pupils were dilated and
he kept grinding his teeth. The artery in his neck was pulsing and the man was
sweating despite the cold temperature.
The trooper asked Maines if he was under the influence of any illegal drugs.
The question seemed to upset Maines and he became even more agitated. He
denied using any drugs.
The trooper explained to the man why he was asking him about drug use. He
then asked Maines to be honest with him. The man admitted to using both methamphetamine and marijuana a short time before the collision. He said he fled the
scene of the wreck due to being under the influence of meth.
Due to the man’s behavior and his admission to drug use, the trooper placed
the man under arrest and transported him to jail.
Maines pled guilty to the charges of public intoxication. His bond was set at
$1,500, and he is scheduled to appear in court on December 19, 2015.

Deaths in crashes involving drunk drivers with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08+ dropped in 2010, but despite
this decrease, there were still 10,228 lives lost – that’s one person every 51 minutes. That makes it everyone's problem.
It seems that many people were doing their part to put a stop
to this completely preventable epidemic. Alcohol-related traffic
fatalities reached a low point in the late 1990s. Research also
indicates that 62% of Americans exposed to the now-iconic Friends Don't Let Friends Drive
Drunk campaign have personally intervened to stop someone from driving drunk, no doubt
saving countless lives.
However, since the late 90's, alcohol-related driving deaths have been steadily increasing. It
seems that though the campaign was very successful, it did not change the behavior of many
potential impaired drivers. Many thought the messages to be targeted at overtly drunk drivers,
and not them. When decision time came, they would consider themselves merely "buzzed" and
get behind the wheel.
The new PSAs created to address this gap were released in December 2005 with the objective
to inspire dialogue and recognition of the dangers of "buzzed" driving and subsequently, to motivate people to stop driving buzzed. The next installment expands on this message, equating
buzzed driving and drunk driving and demonstrating the devastating consequences that can occur as a result of buzzed driving. The overall campaign hopes to educate people that consuming
even a few drinks can impair driving and that Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving.

A Wilburton man had nothing to
hide when he was stopped for his erratic driving shortly after 1 a.m. on
November 20. When asked if he had
been drinking, Morris James Sam, 53,
replied, “Yes! A lot!”
According to the affidavit, a Latimer
County deputy was headed eastbound
on SW 104th behind a blue minivan.
The van’s left signal light was activated, but the vehicle never turned.
As the van approached the SW
136th junction, the driver switched
the turn signal to the right and made
a sharp turn onto SW 136th. As the
van turned, it ran off the left side of
the road.
The deputy stopped the vehicle and made contact with the driver,
identified as Sam. He was immediately greeted by a strong stench of
booze. The deputy asked the man for his driver’s license and insurance. Sam said in slurred speech that his license was suspended, but
he said he had insurance. The man’s eyes were bloodshot and he had
trouble holding onto his insurance verification.
The deputy noticed two open beer cans inside the van. He then
asked the driver if he had been drinking. Sam admitted that yes, he
had consumed a lot of booze.
When the deputy asked Sam to exit the vehicle, the man was very
unstable on his feet and he had to grab onto his van for balance. Sam
refused to take the field sobriety tests, but a PBT revealed his BAC
was .20, more than twice the legal limit.
Sam was arrested and booked into the Latimer County Jail.
Sam is being charged with driving a motor vehicle while under the
influence of alcohol, driving with license suspended and transporting opened container of beer. His bond was set at $2,500, and he is
scheduled to appear in court on November 30, 2015.

An Alvarado, Texas, woman led police on a high speed
chase through Pittsburg County while she was en route to
her home state to get some money to bail her mom out of
jail.
Like mother, like daughter, 20-year-old Sierra Brieanne
Johnson ended up behind bars.
On November 24, police in the Pittsburg County area were
advised to be on the lookout for a blue vehicle with Missouri
license plates. The vehicle was reported as stolen and was
thought to be driven by Johnson.
A state trooper located the vehicle near the Coal Creek exit on Highway 69.
He attempted to pull the vehicle over, but quickly realized the driver had no intention of stopping. The vehicle sped up to approximately 100 mph and started
passing vehicles on the shoulder of the highway. The driver didn’t come to a stop
until an officer set out a spike strip at the Electric Avenue exit in McAlester. The
car spun out of control, but as the trooper started to approach it, the driver took
off again southbound on Highway 69. The vehicle was swerving all over the road
and sparks were flying from the tires.
The driver ran a redlight and continued until it turned into the parking lot of
a motel north of Wise Road in Savanna. Johnson stepped out of the car and was
placed in handcuffs. When the trooper asked her why she didn’t stop, she said she
was trying to make it to Texas so she could get bail money to get her mom out of
a Missouri jail.
Police asked her if she had anything illegal in her car -- she admitted that she
had some marijuana and pills. The trooper located the drugs and Johnson was
transported to jail.
Johnson is being charged with possession of stolen vehicle, endangering others while eluding/attempting to elude police officer, two counts of possession of
controlled dangerous substance and driving with license canceled/suspended/
revoked.

A newly married bride was arrested after she allegedly stabbed
her husband with a knife because she thought she caught him
looking at another woman.
Maybe they should reconsider for better or for worse.
On November 16 around 3 a.m., a Hugo police officer was dispatched to the 700 block of W. Sterrett due to an assault with a
knife, according to the police report. When he arrived at the residence, the front door was open. Inside, he saw a man standing in
the living room, bleeding and holding a wound on the right side
of his stomach.
A woman in the residence, Hugo woman Monica Renee Simes,
24, was on the phone -- she had blood on her shirt.
The victim told the officer that he married Simes earlier that
day. The couple went to the bar and when they came home, she
allegedly stabbed him. He said she accused him of looking at another woman.
Simes didn’t have any marks on her, but she told police that her husband was trying to
“control the house,” so she stabbed him. There was blood on the floor and on a wall in the
house. Numerous beer cans were in the living room and both Simes and the victim smelled
strongly of alcohol.
Simes was arrested and transported to jail.
Simes is being charged with domestic assault and battery with a deadly weapon. Her bond
was set at $25,000, and she is scheduled to appear in court on December 29, 2015.
Not happily ever after?

POSS OF CDS WITHOUT SCRIPT
An intoxicated Antlers man was
arrested November 22 after he
couldn’t obey officer orders and leave
his girlfriend alone.
Officers told 38-year-old David
Corey Chumbley to go to his mom’s
house, but he said he was too drunk
to walk there, so, he got a ride to jail.
Around 4:55 p.m., an Antlers officer was dispatched to the 100 block
of NW Fourth due to an intoxicated
man. A woman at the residence said
that an officer had already been by
earlier that day because she and her
boyfriend, Chumbley, were arguing
and she wanted him to leave. The officer who dealt with that call said
he told Chumbley to leave and go to his mom’s house around 2:57 p.m.
Well, Chumbley was back. The woman said Chumbley came back to
her house and she wouldn’t let him inside. The drunk man just stood
outside the front door and kept yelling at her to let him in.
While the officer was speaking with the woman, another person at
the residence said Chumbley was out back. The officer walked around
the house and found Chumbley knocking on the back door. Chumbley seemed to be extremely intoxicated and emotional. He admitted to
drinking.
When the officer asked him why he was back at the location even
though he had been asked to leave, he said he just “wanted to talk.” He
also said that he was too drunk to walk back to his mom’s.
The drunk and disorderly man was arrested and transported to jail.
Chumbley is being charged with public intoxication. His bond was set
at $200, and he is scheduled to appear in court on December 9, 2015.

Stigler man Paul Mitchell Gossett, 56, was booked into jail
for numerous charges after he allegedly shot a deer from a vehicle.
On November 16, a person contacted a game warden and
said he saw a truck stop in the middle of the road. The passenger, identified as Gossett, stepped out of the vehicle and shot a
deer from the roadway.
The witness gave the game warden Gossett’s address.
Around 7:30 p.m., the wardens went to the residence on
North Country Road. They saw a fresh doe carcass hanging on
the front porch. A truck parked in the backyard appeared to
have fresh blood on it.
The wardens saw two men in the kitchen who appeared to
have blood on their hands. They told the men to come outside.
One of them was identified as Gossett. Another man was also located in the residence.
A warden searched the occupants for weapons. He found a used syringe in Gossett’s pocket. Gossett admitted to shooting the deer with his own gun. Officers would later be advised
the man was a convicted felon.
The wardens asked who owned the residence. The homeowner was identified as Gossett’s
brother. They then asked the man for consent to search the residence -- he said yes.
A Stigler officer arrived to assist, and the homeowner said if officers located any illegal
drugs in his home, he wanted them gone. He showed them were Gossett slept. The officer
found two spoons with residue and multiple used syringes.
Gossett was arrested and transported to jail. During booking, police found a small bag
containing meth in the man’s wallet.
Gossett is being charged with possession of firearm after former felony conviction, possession of controlled dangerous substance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, two
counts of possession of illegal game/sale of game, hunting without license, hunting from
motor vehicle, shooting from public roadway, hunting without a valid deer tag, and failure to
tag harvested deer. His bond was set at $250,000.

Durant man Paul Jay Bryant, 53, was arrested after
he allegedly hit his ex-girlfriend in the head with a bat
during an argument on November 16. He admitted to
arguing with his former lady, but he said he never hit
her.
Durant officers were dispatched to the 500 block of
W. Locust Street around 10:37 p.m. because a woman
had been assaulted and was bleeding from her head,
according to the affidavit. Officers made contact with
the victim, who was standing in the front yard. Although her face was covered in blood, she at first said
she didn’t know why she was bleeding. She eventually
admitted that Bryant hit her in the head at her residence in the 700 block of N. Sixth Avenue.
The woman said that she and Bryant had a rocky relationship, and she had broken
things off with him a week before. He showed up at her house around 10 p.m. and they
started arguing. She said Bryant threatened to hurt her, so she took out her dentures
and said, “Let’s go then!”
Bryant then began throwing “whatever he could get his hands on” around the residence before eventually striking the woman in the head with a bat. She went to her
friend’s house and called the police.
The officers went to the woman’s house, but Bryant was nowhere in sight. The house,
however, was in complete disarray. A TV was on the floor, pictures were all over the
place, and a bat covered in blood and hair was located in the bedroom.
During the investigation, officers saw Bryant stumbling through the intersection of
N. Sixth Avenue and W. Locust Street. He had blood on his face, and when an officer
asked him about it, he said, “I messed up.”
Bryant smelled like alcohol and his speech was slurred. He started yelling everything
he said. He told police the victim “beat the s--- out of him,” but he denied hitting her
with a bat.
An officer placed the man under arrest and transported him to jail.
Bryant is being charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. His bond
was set at $20,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on December 16, 2015.

We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money or
favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting
offi cer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.
Thank you and God Bless

A Valliant woman was arrested after police found her sleeping
in her car in front of an ATM machine on November 20.
29-year-old Cadye Jai Blackwell had some marijuana, methamphetamine, and a loaded gun sitting in plain sight in her vehicle.
A Valliant officer was dispatched to the ATM machine at a local
back around 7:45 a.m. due to a woman asleep behind the wheel of
a car with the engine running. When he arrived, he found Blackwell snoozing in the driver’s seat.
The officer opened the door to check on her, and he saw a revolver in the driver’s side door panel. When he secured the weapon, he discovered it was loaded with four live rounds. He also saw
two bags in the passenger’s seat -- one of them contained a white
crystal substance and the other was filled with a green leafy substance.
Blackwell eventually woke up, and she told the officer she was tired and fell asleep. She also
told him that her driver’s license was suspended.
The officer placed her under arrest.
Blackwell agreed to talk. She told him that the green leafy substance was marijuana and the
white substance was “dope.” Sure enough, the green substance tested positive for weed, and
the white substance tested positive for meth.
Blackwell is being charged with two counts of possession of controlled dangerous substance and driving with license canceled/suspended/revoked. She was released on a $5,000
bond and is scheduled to appear in court on January 7, 2016.

McAlester man Dennis Keith Cleveland,
21, was arrested on November 23 after
McDonald’s employees told police he was
hanging around their store being creepy.
Cleveland said he just needed to use their
phone so he could go back home.
According to the affidavit, employees
contacted Eufaula police around 5 a.m.
and said there was a man sitting outside
the store, watching the employees. At one
point, employees said the man walked up
to the drive-thru window and asked to use
the phone. The employees told him to leave because they weren’t
open yet.
When police made contact with the man, he said he was just trying to find a ride back to McAlester. He said he was in Eufaula hanging out with a woman, but he was ready to go home. He asked the
officers if they could give him a ride to McAlester. When they told
him that was out of their area, he then asked for a ride back to his
friend’s house.
After clearing the man for warrants, an officer agreed to give him
a lift. But first, the officer asked the man if he could pat him down
for safety reasons.
Cleveland said, “No, go ahead.” Cleveland probably didn’t mean
it, though. He kept his hands up, closing his coat. The officer told
him to put his hands down. He then noticed the bottom end of a
needle sticking out of the top right pocket of the coat.
The officer told the man to put his hands behind his back.
Cleveland begged the officer not to arrest him because he didn’t
want to go to jail. The needle was filled with a clear liquid substance
that later tested positive for meth.
Cleveland got the ride he wanted -- it just wasn’t where he was
wanting to go.
Cleveland is being charged with possession of controlled dangerous substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. His
bond was set at $10,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on
January 28, 2016.
