A Bonanza, Arkansas, man under the influence
of some kind of drug found himself looking out of a
Oklahoma jail cell after a state trooper caught him
speeding on January 3.
According to the affidavit, the trooper was parked
near the intersection of South Gray Street and East
Pryor when a vehicle flew by shortly after midnight.
The trooper estimated that the vehicle was going
60 mph, which was more than the posted limit.
As the trooper watched the vehicle, he saw the
driver turn off the headlights as he drove through
the intersection. He then turned the lights back on
and continued north on North Gray Street.
The trooper stopped the car and made contact
with the driver, 29-year-old Wesley Leon Hartsfield. Hartsfield was “highly animated” and had dilated pupils.
The trooper asked the man to exit the vehicle and have a seat in the patrol car.
He checked the man’s pockets and found a baggie containing some white pills
and a roll of change.
During the stop, Hartsfield continued to act like he was under the influence of
something. The trooper administered standard field sobriety tests. Hartsfield was
definitely under the influence of something.
The trooper placed the man under arrest and asked if he would take the state’s
test. Hartsfield said no, because he “took a Clonopin earlier.”
Hartsfield is being charged with driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs, possession of controlled dangerous substance, possession of drug
paraphernalia, reckless driving, failure to wear seatbelt and failure to carry insurance/ security verification form. His bond was set at $5,000, and he is scheduled
to appear in court on January 25, 2016.

Wilburton man Rickey Joe Dobson, 48, and 53-year-old
Glenna Darlene Dooley of Hartshorne went to jail after some
people noticed they were acting kind of weird.
On the evening of January 4, a Wilburton officer was dispatched to a local grocery store because some people kept
walking in and out of the business. They weren’t shopping,
and they seemed to be intoxicated.
When the officer arrived, he saw the suspect vehicle. The
vehicle turned east onto Highway 2 North, and the officer followed.
The car drove straight through the red light at the intersection of Highway 270, and the driver didn’t use a signal when
he turned right. The officer stopped the couple.
The driver was identified as Dobson. The man’s speech was
slurred and he couldn’t stop moving. The officer asked him to
exit the vehicle. Dobson was unsteady on his feet.
After getting the man’s information, the officer told him to
get back in his car. While checking his info, the officer noticed
the couple moving around a lot. He approached the vehicle
and asked what they were doing. The passenger, Dooley, told
the officer they were just listening to music.
There was no music playing.
Dobson denied drinking or doing any kind of drugs. According to the police report, so did Dooley, at first. But, she
eventually cracked and told the officer she used meth earlier
that day.
Dobson was again asked to exit his truck, and while they
were talking, the officer saw Dobson put his hand in front of the truck’s hood. He then heard
glass breaking.
He asked the man what that noise was. Dobson replied, “What was what?”
The officer found some broken pieces of a pipe on the ground that later tested positive for
meth.
After the man failed some sobriety tests, the officer placed the couple under arrest and took
them to jail.
Dooley is being charged with public intoxication. She was released on a personal recognizance bond and is scheduled to appear in court on March 1, 2016.
Dobson is being charged with possession of controlled dangerous substance, driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia
and failure to stop at red light. His bond was set at $2,000, and he is scheduled to appear in
court on January 19, 2016.

A McAlester man turned himself in after he shot and killed
his neighbor on January 3 after a dispute.
Samuel Nava, 41, was charged January 5 with murder in the
first degree- deliberate intent, shooting with intent to kill, and
possession of a firearm after felony conviction, in Pittsburg
County District Court.
According to the police affidavit, the victim, 32 year-old Michael Meneley, and his wife were having a get-together with
friends and family the evening of January 2 when Nava joined
them. Nava became “belligerent” and was asked to leave.
The next morning, Nava went back to the residence and asked for the victim.
Meneley’s wife told him he was not there. While they were speaking, Nava showed
her a gun. After Nava left, she immediately contacted her husband and brother,
Damon Williams, 32, to let them know what was going on. Shortly thereafter,
Meneley and Williams, returned to the house. They confronted Nava, who was
sitting in a car in his driveway. Not long after that, gunfire erupted. Meneley and
Williams were shot; both were unarmed.
Meneley and Williams were taken to McAlester Regional Health Center where
Meneley was pronounced dead. Williams was taken into surgery.
Nava is being held on a $1 million bond. His preliminary hearing conference
will be held on February 26 at 8:30 a.m.

A Lehigh convicted felon was caught
with some drugs and guns during a
traffic stop on January 5.
31-year-old Paul Wayne Buchanan
was arrested and placed in a cell. And
it all started with a cracked windshield.
According to the police report, a Coal
County deputy noticed Buchanan’s
broken windshield while traveling
south on state Highway 75 shortly after 9 p.m. He stopped the man at the
intersection of Cherry and Second in
Lehigh.
The officer approached the car and
asked the man for his driver’s license.
Buchanan told him he didn’t have one, because it was suspended.
After verifying the information, the officer placed him under arrest
for driving under suspension. But, Buchanan’s charges weren’t done.
Before getting placed in handcuffs, Buchanan agreed to empty his
pockets. He took out a set of steel knuckles and a small silver container that later tested positive for methamphetamine.
Buchanan was then cuffed and put in the patrol vehicle.
The officer conducted an inventory of the man’s car prior to leaving the scene. He found a shotgun and a muzzle loader behind the
driver’s seat.
A wrecker was sent to pick up the car, and Buchanan was transported to the Coal County Jail.
Buchanan is being charged with possession of firearm after former
felony conviction, possession of controlled dangerous substance,
unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and driving with license
canceled/suspended/revoked. His bond was set at $21,500, and he is
scheduled to appear in court on January 21, 2016.

Oklahoma County District Attorney David Prater,
with the help of several other attorneys, took down
an armed robbery suspect in the Oklahoma County
Courthouse after he tried to escape custody.
Israel Deshaun Pointer, 19, had been in court December 7 on an armed robbery charge when he was
told he was being arrested for failing to appear in
court on an earlier date, according to reports. He
then said he was not going back to jail and bolted out
of the courtroom. Several deputies tried to stop him
twice, but he struggled free on both occasions.
Video surveillance on the 7th floor of the courthouse shows Prater and several other attorneys walking down the hallway. Prater saw Pointer running toward him and unbuttoned his coat, ready to bounce
on the suspect. He then grabbed Pointer, struggled
with him, and the other attorneys aided in the takedown.
Pointer was then cuffed and carted off to jail.
This was the fourth time since Prater was elected DA that he’s taken down a fleeing
person in the courthouse. In an interview, he said working in the courthouse with “being
in the Wild West.”

Bennington man Gary Michael Robison Jr., 47, allegedly shot at this sister, took her truck, and threatened to
kill his entire family on January 3.
According to the affidavit, Bryan County deputies were
dispatched to the 1200 block of Clear Boggy Road shortly
after 11 a.m. to investigate a shooting.
The suspect had fled the scene.
When the deputies arrived, they were met by two hysterical woman who were shaking and crying. Robison’s
sister said her brother came to her house and told her he
was going to take her truck, and she needed to put it in his name. He then
went to her room, grabbed her 38 pistol, walked to the front door and fired
five shots. The man then turned toward her and pulled the trigger.
Luckily, the bullet missed her and instead went through the kitchen wall.
Robison then left in her truck with a promise to come back and finish them.
The man’s daughter gave the same account of events. She said when she
walked in her aunt’s house, she saw Robison fire a pistol at the woman. The
daughter started yelling at him to stop, but he didn’t listen. She said he walked
over to her grandmother, kicked her walker, and told her he was going to kill
her.
Before leaving, the man told them he would be back to finish them.
At the scene, police found a bullet hole in the kitchen wall and a shell casing
from the pistol.
Another officer apprehended Robison, but the man refused to speak about
the incident. He simply said, “I want my lawyer present.”
Robison is being charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. His bond was set at $50,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on
March 3, 2016.

Atoka man Billy Blake Eldridge,
30, was arrested on January 3 after
he admitted to shooting a gun at his
uncle and cousin.
An Atoka County deputy was dispatched to the 1000 block of S. Forest Hill Road shortly after 4 p.m., because a man wanted to file a report
about his nephew firing a rifle above
his head.
According to the affidavit, the
man said he and his son went to
Eldridge’s residence to ask about
some tools. When they drove up and
honked the horn, they saw the door
open and shut. Eldridge then walked out of the house holding a rifle.
He said Eldridge pointed the gun over the men’s heads. The man said
he yelled, “Wait a minute. I just want to talk!”
Well, Eldridge apparently didn’t. He fired a shot at his family and
told them he was going to kill them. Eldridge then walked toward the
men, pointing the gun at them. They yelled at him to calm down, but
it was no use. Eldridge fired the gun again and continued to threaten
to kill them.
When the deputy spoke to Eldridge, he didn’t deny anything. He
said he already told them not to come over. When they did, he said
he asked them to leave and they refused. So, he grabbed his gun and
shot it into the air. He admitted to the deputy that he was on probation and attending anger management classes.
The deputy placed him under arrest and took him to jail.
Eldridge is being charged with feloniously pointing firearm. His
bond was set at $25,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on
January 13, 2016.

homeless

A homeless man has been charged with property destruction after police discovered a 15-foot-deep cave they say he
dug in a public park.
Yosue Joel Rios, 25, was arrested Dec. 13 after police in
Fairfax, Virginia found a man-made cave in Van Dyck Park.
The painstakingly created home about 200 yards behind the
headquarters of the City of Fairfax Police Department headquarters was discovered about 4:10 p.m. by people walking
through the woods. The entrance was covered with plywood
and leaves, police said.
"I haven't seen anything like it," police spokeswoman Sgt.
Natalie Hinesley said.
Video shot by police shows steep steps leading to a splitlevel home of sorts. On one end of the cavern was a bedroom;
on the other was a sunken living room. Inside, officers found
books and papers that looked like homework assignments.
"He was studying several topics, from what it looked like," Hinesley said, noting officers
found English language manuals. "He had an alphabet written out with the sounds."
He also appeared to be a student of the Bible, police said, and had carved into the cementlike walls the word " Adullam", the name of a cave where David hid from the King of Gath.
Staff members at the nearby nonprofit The Lamb Center said they knew Rios well and that
he had just been there on Saturday for Bible study.
Officers also found inside a spade, a trowel and a pick ax, photos show.
Rios wasn't at the home he created when police entered and began to dismantle it. When
he returned and said he lived inside, he was arrested and charged with destruction of property. Police said he also was wanted for failure to appear in court after a traffic charge in
Arlington County. He was ordered held without bond.
By Monday afternoon, county crews had filled in the cave with dirt. It wasn't clear how long
Rios had lived inside.
At last count, about 1,200 homeless people lived in Fairfax County.
A visitor to Van Dyck Park on Monday, Fareed Naimi, said he admired Rios.
"More power to him. He did something that most people don't do," he said. "He actually
took a step to change his life and made his own little home where he could study."

A 27-year-old Broken Bow man was locked up
on January 6 after he allegedly violated a protection
order and assaulted police officers.
He also gave them the wrong name.
According to the police report, a Broken Bow officer was dispatched to a gas station on N. Park Drive
at approximately 2:36 p.m. because a man wouldn’t
let a woman leave the store. When he arrived, employees pointed to a man standing by the gas pumps
near a truck. The passenger door was open, and the
man was talking loudly to a woman in the truck.
The officer asked the man if there were any problems. The man said he was just about to leave. When the officer asked the woman
if everything was okay, she said no.
The man told police that his name was Eric.
The couple was separated, and the officer spoke to the suspect. Another officer
asked what name the suspect gave. The officer said the man said his name was
Eric. The other officer said that wasn’t the right name.
When the officer approached him and said his name wasn’t Eric, the man replied, “Bullsh—.” The officer told “Eric” they were going to detain him. “Eric”
didn’t want to be detained -- he pulled from the officer and started running away.
The officer chased after the man and tackled him to the ground.
Once he was in the patrol car, the victim told the officer the man’s name was
actually Billy Laredo Nichols.
During the arrest, Nichols punched an officer in the mouth and caused another
one to injure his leg.
Nichols was transported to jail.
When they arrived, the officer was advised there was a protective order in place
that prohibited Nichols from contacting the victim. He also had a warrant out of
Arkansas, and three through McCurtain County.
Nichols is being charged with battery/assault and battery on police officer,
falsely personate another to create liability and protective order violation.

A Eufaula man told an officer that he tried to get away because he didn’t
have a driver’s license 44-year-old Patrick Maurice Dixon had also consumed a little too much alcohol.
According to the affidavit, a Eufaula officer was patrolling on North G
Street when he saw a vehicle at the intersection of Simpson and Elm. When
the officer turned east on Elm toward the vehicle, the driver accelerated
rapidly and took off, failing to stop at the stop sign at G and Broadway.
The officer turned on his lights and siren and pursued the car. Dixon
just kept on going, running another a few more stop signs. When he tried
to turn west onto Clifford Seals, he hit a fence and ran over a mailbox.
Dixon eventually came to a stop in the 500 block of S. E. He exited the car and the officer
told him to get on the ground. He then placed Dixon in handcuffs. When the officer asked the
man why he ran, Dixon said it was because he didn’t have a driver’s license.
There was possibly another reason. The officer noticed a strong smell of alcohol coming
from the man and he asked him if he had been drinking. Dixon said he had a few.
The officer put him in the patrol vehicle and inventoried the man’s car. He found some
brass knuckles and an empty bottle of whiskey.
Dixon is being charged with endangering others while eluding/attempting to elude police
officer, leaving scene of accident involving damage, driving with license canceled/suspended/revoked and failure to carry insurance/security verification form. His bond was set at
$10,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on January 28, 2016.
