We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money or
favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting
offi cer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.
Thank you and God Bless

A Heavener man rode with his buddy to drop off some
wedding supplies, but then he stole the truck!
According to an affidavit, a man in Poteau contacted a Leflore County deputy on June 15, and told him that he had
been at a wedding all night. When the wedding was over, the
man said he asked Jason Lee Ellis, 31, to go with him to drop
some wedding supplies. The man said Ellis agreed, but when
he stepped out of the truck to unload the supplies, Ellis sped
away in his truck. The man said he called Ellis, but the truckstealer didn’t answer.
A witness verified the man’s story.
Police later received a call about a vehicle matching the description of the stolen truck. A deputy located the truck in the
300 block of SW Fourth Street in Spiro.
Apparently, the homeowner heard a vehicle motor revving
up outside, so she opened the front door to see what was going on. Ellis stumbled out of the
truck and into the residence. She said he smelled of alcohol, and he told her a friend had
given him the truck. He started crying about his kids, said he was in an argument with someone, and told her, “If they catch me, I’ll go to prison.”
He then asked where the back door was.
While she and the deputy were talking, the woman pointed out movement behind the
house. Ellis was crouched down in the alley. When the deputy asked him if he had been
drinking, Ellis replied, “I’m f----- up.”
That would be a yes!
The deputy placed him under arrest for the stolen truck. Ellis insisted that he didn’t steal
the truck and said that the truck’s owner was with him and had given him a ride. When the
deputy told him the truck owner was in Poteau, Ellis still argued that he was hiding behind
the house with him.
During a pat down search of Ellis, the deputy found a pipe with a residue that tested positive for methamphetamine.
Ellis is being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, unauthorized
use of a motor vehicle and possession of drug paraphernalia. His bond was set at $25,000,
and he is scheduled to appear in court on June 30, 2014.
What a friend!

A Soper man broke into the home of
a woman and was tased before being
taken to jail when he resisted arrest.
Really, what did he expect?
According to the affidavit, Choctaw
County deputies were dispatched the a
residence in the 400 block of S. Main
Street in Soper on June 20, due to reports of a trespasser. They were advised that the suspect was 31-year-old
Otis Eugene Keller, and he was still in
the residence and possibly armed with
a firearm.
When they arrived, the victim told
them she awoke to Keller going through her belongings. She said
he entered the home without her consent, and began “talking crazy”
and making threats toward her. He also allegedly demanded she give
him her food stamp card. She told the officers that Keller was still in
her home, and he refused to leave.
As a deputy approached the residence, he saw Keller peek out the
front door. When he saw the deputy, he went back inside. The deputy
ordered Keller to come out of the house; Keller complied, but he refused the commands to put his hands on his head. Instead, Keller
told the deputy that he wasn’t going to jail.
Unfortunately for Keller, that just wasn’t an option.
The deputy warned Keller that if he didn’t comply, he would be
tased. Keller attempted to run away, but the deputy’s Taser stopped
him in his tracks. After the taser stopped, Keller tried to get up and
once again told the deputy he wasn’t going to jail. A second tase,
however, seemed to change his mind, because Keller complied after
being tased again.
Keller is being charged with burglary in the first degree and obstructing an officer. His bond was set at $70,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on July 29, 2014.

Three teens tried to steal an elderly woman’s car in Seattle Saturday.
But there was one problem, none of them knew how to drive it!
70-year-old Nancy Fredrickson was grabbing something from the
trunk of her car, when suddenly, she saw a gun inches from her face.
She dropped her keys and said three teens jumped into her Kia.
The only problem was none of them knew how to drive a stick shift.
“I’ve got five speed in there and they couldn’t figure out how to get
it going,” said Fredrickson.
So Fredrickson just stood there as they tried, and failed.
It’s hilarious to her neighbors.
“They can’t drive a stick? That’s unmanly,” they said.
But the teens didn’t find it funny, they panicked!
Kiro 7 obtained this surveillance video, showing them sprinting
across the parking lot of a business across south Main Street – with
one bolting in another direction from his accomplices.
Police also got DNA evidence.
Other neighbors are surprised the would-be carjackers even tried it
at 4:30 in the afternoon.
Fredrickson never imagined a stick shift would trip up three thieves.
But she’s thrilled she and her car survived, unharmed.

A stolen diesel tank led to the arrest of Coalgate man Casey Ray Tinney, 25, when police
found him to be in possession of meth and marijuana.
After all, possession of drugs is not a “Tinney” thing to ignore!
On June 10, a Coal County deputy was informed that Tinney had stolen a diesel tank and
taken it to his residence, the affidavit states. He went to Tinney’s residence and made contact with the alleged thief. When he made contact with the man, he noticed a knife clipped
to his pocket. The deputy secured the knife and performed a pat down search for any other
potential weapons.
During the search, the deputy felt a round, tube-like object in Tinney’s back pocket. Tinney seemed nervous when the deputy retrieved the object.
No wonder — when the deputy opened it, he found a clear bag containing a clear, crystallike substance.
The deputy asked Tinney what was in the tube. Tinney told him it was marijuana. The
deputy removed the contents of the tube and also found a bag with a green leafy substance,
a bag containing a brown substance Tinney called “hash,” and a bag with three blue pills
Tinney said were Clonapins.
The substances field-tested positive for methamphetamine and marijuana.
Along with the drugs, the deputy also found the stolen diesel tank at the residence. The
owner of the tank declined to press charged, but the drugs led Tinney straight to a jail cell.
Tinney is being charged with two counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance. He was released on a personal recognizance bond and is scheduled to appear in
court on July 3, 2014.

A failure to signal while turning ended in the arrest of a couple in
Latimer County on June 21 when a state trooper found drugs and paraphernalia in their vehicle.
According to the affidavit, the trooper was on patrol when he noticed
a vehicle fail to signal when making a left turn. The trooper pulled the
vehicle over and made contact with the driver, 36-year-old James Darrell Holt of Denison, Texas, and passenger, Wilburton woman Tracy Ann
Moore, 42. Holt smelled like alcohol, had slow, slurred speech and was
unsteady on his feet. He admitted to the trooper that he had been drinking vodka and smoking marijuana about an hour prior to the stop.
The trooper found a marijuana pipe with marijuana on the driver’s side
floorboard of Holt’s vehicle. Holt told the trooper the marijuana was his.
But Moore had some tricks up her sleeve — er, shorts.
When the trooper told her to exit the vehicle, he noticed that she tried
to hide a plastic bag containing marijuana in her shorts. The trooper took
the weed from Moore, and placed both individuals under arrest.
A records check revealed that Holt’s driver’s license was suspended.
Moore is being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance. Her bond was set at $1,500.
Holt is being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, driving a motor
vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and drugs, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and driving with license suspended. His bond was set at $10,000.

There’s a saying about exes —
they’re an ex for a reason.
Sometimes they’re crazy, sometimes they steal your pool sticks and
hide them in the woods…
Unfortunately for an Antlers man,
his soon-to-be ex-wife, Kathryne
Nicole Ortiz, 40, proved why that
statement is true when she stole
random items from his residence on
June 20.
According to the affidavit, a Pushmataha County deputy was dispatched to a residence in the 200
block of N.E. 14th Street in Antlers
due to a burglary. The victim told the deputy that his soon-to-be ex
had stolen several items from his residence after she got drunk and
started fighting with him.
The deputy located Ortiz and asked her about the stolen items. The
Choctaw woman told the deputy that she didn’t remember much because she was drunk.
After talking for awhile, Ortiz admitted that she had taken some
things from the victim’s residence. She said she had some of the
items in her purse, and she had left the others in a backpack in the
woods near the victim’s residence. She told police she would take
them to the where she had left the stolen items.
Next to a tree, there was a black backpack and a container with
two pool sticks inside of it. The deputy placed Ortiz under arrest and
transported her to jail.
Ortiz is being charged with second-degree burglary and knowingly
concealing stolen property. Her bond was set at $5,000, and she is
scheduled to appear in court on July 9, 2014.

Anyone carrying a large quantity of illegal
prescription drugs would face drug trafficking charges under a measure signed into law
by Gov. Mary Fallin.
House Bill 2589, by Rep. Pat Ownbey,
would add morphine, oxycodone, hydrocodone and benzodiazepine to drugs, listed
under current drug trafficking law. Carrying 1,000 grams of a morphine mixture,
400 grams of an oxycodone mixture, 3,750
grams of a hydrocodone substance or 500 grams of a benzodiazepine mixture would carry
a penalty of a $100,000-$500,000 fine and prison time. Subsequent violations would carry
additional prison time.
Ownbey said Oklahoma is a major route for all types of trafficking crime, but prescription
drug abuse is especially prevalent. He developed the legislation with help from the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs.
“Prescription drug abuse affects all individuals and families at all income levels and all
ages,” Ownbey, R-Ardmore. “Drugs are marketed as one product and turn out to be another.
It leads to overdoses and addictions. It’s a terrible problem and we have to stop it.”
The new law takes effect Nov. 1, 2014.

McAlester man Adam Leon Ingram, 27, was
arrested on June 13 after he allegedly called a
man Marilyn Manson, pointed a gun at him,
and hit his girlfriend.
According to the affidavit, a man told McAlester police that when he pulled up to his
apartment, Ingram pulled up the same time as
he to go to his apartment. He said Ingram got
out of his vehicle, walked past him with a gun,
pointed it at him and said, “What’s up, Marilyn Manson.” Both men then went into their
own apartments.
When the man’s girlfriend went to ask Ingram why he had pointed a
gun at her man, Ingram showed hid dark side. A fight then broke out.
Witnesses told police Ingram hit the man and pushed his girlfriend
to the ground, causing her to hit her head on the concrete. They said
Ingram told them he was going back inside to get a gun.
The officer located Ingram and asked him where the gun was. Ingram,
who smelled like alcohol, told the officer he didn’t have a gun. Ingram’s
father eventually handed over the firearm.
Witnesses said Ingram’s father had also been in the fight and had
tried to hit people with a pair of pliers before the fight ended. The officer
was unable to question the man at the time, due to his extreme intoxication, but he did take Ingram to jail.
Ingram told the officer that the girl had actually hit him, and showed
the officer a cut on his upper lip. The officer asked Ingram why he didn’t
tell anyone about being assaulted while they were at the scene. Ingram
said he was shook up and forgot about it.
Ingram father tried arguing with police about his son’s arrest and became belligerent when police told him they weren’t going to discuss the
issue with him anymore.
They also filed an affidavit for him, and issued a warrant for his arrest.
Like father, like son.
Ingram is being charged with feloniously pointing a firearm and two
counts of assault and battery. He is being held in lieu of a $20,000 bond,
and he is scheduled to appear in court on June 27, 2014.

A joy ride on a golf cart through the streets
of Durant. Sounds like it could be fun, right?
Durant man Brad Ray Northcott, 28, did
it. Unfortunately, he was too drugged up to
experience it. And, oh yeah, he stole the golf
cart.
According to the affidavit, a Bryan County
deputies were dispatched to the 2400 block
of 49th Street for a found property report on
June 14. A woman told them she had come
home and found a golf cart in her yard.
While she was looking at the golf cart, she
said her dog found a pill bottle with Northcott’s name on it.
A deputy looked at the golf cart and found a clipboard with a driver’s license, credit carts and a checkbook. Police made contact with
the owner of the items. She said the golf cart was hers, and the other
items had been taken out of her car. There was also a blue shirt in
a basket on the golf cart; the woman said it wasn’t hers. Police also
found a pair of sunglasses in the golf cart that didn’t belong to the
woman.
A deputy had interviewed Northcott the day before, and he had
been wearing the shirt found in the golf cart.
Police made contact with Northcott and asked him about the stolen golf cart. He told them he had left his father’s house earlier that
morning to walk home. He said he was so hot that he took off his
shirt, which had his pills in the pocket, and his sunglasses, and laid
them on the side of the road with the intention of retrieving them
later. Northcott then said some guy named John had driven by on
the golf cart and asked him if he wanted a ride. Northcott said he told
“John” no, and he continued to walk home. He was unable to provide
a last name for John.
After more questioning, Northcott eventually admitted that he
took the golf cart, but didn’t remember details because he was “so
doped out of it.”
Northcott is being charged with grand larceny. His bond was set at
$2,500, and he is scheduled to appear in court on July 9, 2014.

Bennington man Brandon Dean Phillips, 29, was arrested on June 20 after he
allegedly backed his truck up to a house
and started loading up his vehicle with
stolen items.
Unfortunately for him, he was caught
in the act.
According to the affidavit, an Atoka
County deputy was advised by the reporting party that he had caught a man, later
identified as Phillips, stealing items from
his aunt’s house.
The deputy was driving east on SH
3 just east of Atoka city limits when he
saw a truck that matched the description of the suspect. The deputy
pulled the vehicle over and made contact with Phillips. Police told
Phillips to exit the truck, and they detained him in handcuffs.
When they asked him what he was doing at the residence, he told
them he was meeting a guy named BJ, but he was unable to tell them
BJ’s last name.
In the passenger floorboard of Phillips’s truck, the deputy saw a
vase, bowls and numerous lamps. The reporting party was called to
the scene, and he identified Phillips as the man that had been at his
aunt’s house.
They made contact with the homeowner and sent her pictures of
the items in the truck. She said they belonged to her. When asked
about the odd items in his truck, Phillips told police that someone
had given them to him to pay off a debt, and they belonged to him.
Even after police told Phillips the homeowner had positively identified the items as hers, Phillips denied ever entering the house.
After taking Phillips to jail, police went back to the scene of the
crime. They found a cigarette that had been freshly put out in the
carpet, and a hat and sunglasses left on on the counter.
Phillips is being charged with burglary in the second degree. He
was released on a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court
on July 2, 2014.

Summer is upon us, school is
out, and the time for recreation
and fun in the sun is here! With
summertime comes traffic to and from the lakes, as well as
numerous other endeavors that you can enjoy across the state,
including camping, riding horses, motorcycles, and atv’s, and other
activities too numerous to list here. One thing that a lot of these
activities have in common is towing something to and from these
locations. I’ve touched on this before, but it never hurts to re-visit
basic safety issues to keep in mind when towing a trailer, so here
goes!
One of the most important safety features that trailers come
equipped with are the safety chains or cables. These are required,
and must be in use when towing. These chains keep the trailer
attached to the vehicle should the coupling device break or
otherwise become disengaged. These chains or cables shall be of
sufficient size and strength to prevent parting from the towing
vehicle. A helpful hint when connecting your stay chains or cables
is to cross them under the tongue of the trailer. The stay chains or
cables must be attached in a manner to prevent the tongue from
falling to the ground, and crossing them allows the chains to catch
it if it should come off the coupling device.
Some larger trailers come equipped with an emergency
breakaway device. This device has a cable coming from it that must
be attached to the vehicle. If the trailer becomes disconnected from
the vehicle, when the cable is pulled tight, it automatically applies
the trailer brakes, preventing it from free-rolling. This device is
required on all trailers with a GVWR of 3000 lbs or more. Speaking
of brakes, state law requires that all brakes be maintained and in
good working order!
If you are breaking out this trailer for the first time since winter,
it’s a good idea to check the tires. Tires that sit for a long time
develop dry rot, flat spots, and lose pressure. Make sure that your
tires are in good working order, still have sufficient tread, and
check the pressure. Run the tires at the manufacturer’s suggested
psi for optimal performance.
Last but not least, we come to trailer lights. Make sure that all
your lights are functional. Plug them into the towing vehicle, and
check them all! Don’t assume that if they work in the daylight,
they will work at night, go ahead and check them with the towing
vehicle’s headlight switch turned on as well. If you are towing
more than one thing; in other words, towing in combination, only
the rearmost trailer’s lights must be operational.
Summertime is recreation time, and getting our toys to our
destination and back safely is the responsibility of every safe,
courteous driver. Lets all do our part to enjoy summer safely. As
always, thanks for reading, buckle up and be safe!

Underage drinker Devin Wayne Ragland,
20, was arrested on June 11 after he just
couldn’t seem to keep his vehicle between
the white and yellow.
According to the affidavit, a McIntosh
County deputy saw a truck turn westbound
onto SH 266 from EW 106; the vehicle
crossed the yellow dividing like and white
line on the right side of the road multiple
times. The deputy pulled the vehicle over
and made contact with Ragland. While
speaking with the Checotah man, the deputy
noticed a beer can on the passenger’s side floorboard.
Since Ragland was underage, the deputy asked for the can — it was
unopened.
During the traffic stop, Ragland appeared to be nervous and kept
requesting to leave. The deputy advised him he had to finish the traffic stop and asked Ragland for consent to search the vehicle.
Ragland just told him he needed to leave, and he wouldn’t grant
consent.
Unfortunately for Ragland, if there’s a will, there’s a way. The deputy requested that a Checotah officer bring a K9 to the location. The
K9 wasn't needed, however.
Police requested Ragland exit the vehicle, and the officer asked
him if he had anything illegal on his person. Ragland told him no,
and the officer asked Ragland about a pipe in his waistband. Ragland
handed over the pipe, and told police he had smoked a bit of weed
out of the pipe earlier.
The deputy placed Ragland under arrest.
During an inventory of Ragland’s truck, the deputy found a pack
of rolling papers.
Ragland is being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, unlawful possession of paraphernalia and minor in
possession of beer. He was released on a $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on August 15, 2014.

A Porum man just couldn’t let go of
his love for a woman, even after she
had married and moved on.
Pursuing someone you love can be
sweet…until it becomes a crime.
Porum man Ralph Wayne Shamblin, 63, was arrested after he allegedly
crossed the fine line of love and scary
infatuation.
Or love and just making people really uncomfortable.
According to the affidavit, a couple
contacted the Haskell County Sheriff’s
department and told them that Porum
kept calling and harassing them. The
woman told police that she used to date Shamblin before getting
married to another man.
A deputy contacted Shamblin and asked him to leave the happy
couple alone. He told Shamblin that the woman did not want to talk
to him anymore. Shamblin agreed to stop calling them.
That was in January. Guess what? The calls didn’t stop.
The couple once again contacted police and said that the harassing
phone calls had started again. Shamblin was still calling and harassing them after he said he wouldn’t. The husband said he told Shamblin on several occasions to stop calling his wife, but Shamblin just
wouldn’t listen. The wife said she also told Shamblin to leave her
alone, but that didn’t work either.
You can’t say he isn’t persistent!
Unfortunately, his persistence didn’t pay off. Shamblin was arrested on June 5 for the harassing phone calls.
Shamblin is being charged with harassing and threatening electronic communication. He was released on a $1,500 bond.
Let her go,
Shamblin!

A Haworth woman who was banned from
ALL Walmarts was caught trying on clothes
at the Broken Bow Walmart on June 19.
It didn’t end well for her.
According to the affidavit, management
contacted Broken Bow police and told them
that there was a banned person in the dressing rooms. An officer approached a man near
the dressing rooms, and asked him who was
in the room. The man said the woman was
Miranda Sue Passmore, 34.
Knowing that she is banned from all
Walmart property, the officer told her to exit the dressing room.
When she did, she had numerous clothes and flip-flops in her hands
She insisted that she thought she was just banned from the Idabel
Walmart.
After the officer explained she was banned from all Walmarts, he
placed her under arrest. Police honored her request to wait until they
were outside the store, but as they were walking, Passmore tried to
hand her purse to the man that was with her. When an officer told her
no, she turned her purse upside down and dumped her belongings on
the ground.
When an officer asked her why she did that, she told them it was because she didn’t have anything inside her purse. She then picked up a
small bag that had been in the purse and tried handing it to the man.
She told police it wasn’t hers. An officer grabbed the bag and inside,
he found a straw, a bag containing a crystal-like substance, a pipe and
a box containing a green leafy substance.
Police transported Passmore to jail and inventoried the dressing
room Passmore had been in. There were numerous price tags on the
dressing room floor and a piece of tape that had been located inside a
pair of women’s underwear.
In Passmore’s purse, police found a used pair of underwear, a used
syringe, baggies containing possible residue and a smoking pipe.
Passmore is being charged with two counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, trespassing after being forbidden and resisting an officer.
