Talihina man Shaye Garrison Smith-Akers, 24, and his 27-yearold companion, Wister man Cody Don White, were locked up
after they allegedly tried to steal some stuff from a residence on
October 4.
Their plans were foiled when the female homeowner approached them with a gun.
According to the affidavit, a LeFlore County deputy was dispatched to the home on Ogden Mill Road around 1 p.m. for a
burglary in progress. He was advised that the homeowner was
holding the suspects at gunpoint.
When the deputy arrived, he met with the couple who owned
the home. The wife said she was in her bedroom when someone
opened the back door and started yelling. She thought it was her
husband, but when she saw a green vehicle parked next to the
outbuilding, she knew it wasn’t.
She grabbed her pistol and went to investigate. She found a man on the front
porch trying to carry a pressure washer. She told him to stop.
Her husband then came home.
The deputy found the suspects and their vehicle next to the side of the house.
Smith-Akers was leaning against the vehicle, and White was lying down in the
backseat.
Police found two chainsaws and a weedeater in the vehicle. The homeowner
said all three items belonged to him.
Smith-Akers told the officer he went to the residence to ask the homeowner for
some gas money. While he was there, he decided to steal some stuff.
While inventorying the suspects’ vehicle, police found a syringe and a crystallike substance in the glove box. Both men said they didn’t know anything about
the drugs and paraphernalia. They were placed under arrest and transported to
jail.
White is being charged with burglary in the first degree, unlawful possession
of controlled dangerous substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. His bond was set at $24,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on
November 3, 2016.

Tommy Warren Ryburn, 47, was arrested after leading
a Wilburton officer on a chase through town on October 3.
According to the police report, the officer tried to stop
Ryburn after he noticed the man speeding down Main
Street with a defective taglight. Ryburn didn’t stop,
though. He just sped up and kept on going. He eventually
came to a stop in front of the Choctaw Travel Plaza and
immediately exited the car.
The officer approached him and asked for his driver’s
license. The man said he didn’t have it on him, but said his
name was Gary Truelove.
Dispatch advised the officer that the vehicle had been reported as stolen
out of Poteau. They also advised they couldn’t find any information for Gary
Truelove.
The officer placed the man in handcuffs and found a glasses case in the
man’s pocket. Ryburn told him the case contained dope. The officer opened
the case and found two syringes filled with a clear liquid, a Q-tip, and a baggy
containing a huge rock substance.
Ryburn then advised that Gary wasn’t his real name. He said his I.D. with
his real name on it was in his wallet. The officer retrieved the card and asked
dispatch if the man had a valid driver’s license. Dispatch said no.
Ryburn told the officer he lied about his name because he had a suspended
license. The officer asked him why he was speeding and trying to get away.
Ryburn said it was because of the drugs he had on him.
The drugs tested positive for meth and Ryburn was placed under arrest.
While he was in the patrol vehicle, he started banging on something in the
car. The officer asked him what he was doing. Ryburn told him the name of
the car owner. He said to call her, and she would tell him it wasn’t stolen.
But, when the officer called the woman, she advised that it was indeed
stolen.
Ryburn is being charged with possession of controlled dangerous substance, possession of stolen vehicle, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, reckless driving, driving with license suspended, failure to maintain insurance or security, and obstructing officer. His bond was set at $10,000, and
he is scheduled to appear in court on October 18, 2016.

Quinton woman Marsha Louise Hubbard, 46, allegedly threw a hot pizza at a
man during an argument on October 3.
She was also arrested for possession of
drugs.
According to the police report, Hubbard
called a Quinton officer at approximately
8:30 p.m. She told him that she had an
emergency and needed help immediately.
The officer went to her home and found
a man standing outside Hubbard’s residence. His right eye was swollen shot.
The officer asked the man what happened.
As they were speaking, Hubbard
walked outside and started yelling at the
officer. Another officer on scene pulled her
to the side to get her side of the story.
The victim told police that he had been staying with Hubbard. Earlier that
evening, he was just trying to make a pizza when Hubbard freaked out and
picked something up and threw it at him.
The victim said he ran toward the back door, but Hubbard picked up the
hot pizza and threw it at him.
She then called police.
The victim told the officer he thought she hit him with a stick, but he
wasn’t sure. The officer asked Hubbard if he could go inside to look for the
stick. She told him yes, but told him there wasn’t a stick inside the home.
There was other stuff, though.
As the officer walked inside, he smelled the odor of marijuana. He saw
some pills and a small plate with two lines of a white powdery substance,
and a piece of foil containing a green leafy substance that tested positive
for marijuana.
The officer asked the victim what the stuff was.
The victim said he wasn’t sure. He told the officer it was Hubbard’s “dope,”
and she had been getting ready to get high.
Hubbard told the officer she had taken the pills from the victim and crushed
them up so she could snort them. She said she knew she didn’t have a
prescription for the meds, but she had been hurting and she needed them.
Hubbard is being charged with assault and battery with a dangerous
weapon, two counts of possession of controlled dangerous substance and
unlawful possession of controlled dangerous substance without a prescription. Her bond was set at $15,000, and she was scheduled to appear in
court on October 14, 2016.

Christopher Wallace may share a name with the Notorious B.I.G., but any
similarities end there. The 22-year-old was arrested in March while Snapchatting his whereabouts (he was currently hiding in a cupboard from police, who
were searching his home at the time). That was actually his second incriminating post to the platform – his first was kind enough to inform police that he was
at home in the first place.
John Mogan already made the poor decision of getting face and neck tattoos, which aren’t the most helpful accessories for bank robbers, but he also
posed for numerous photos with the loot from his alleged haul, along with his
girlfriend, Ashley Duboe. Needless to say, they were arrested shortly after his
pictures hit the web.
Renaud ‘Junior’ Plaisir broke into John Terrell’s New Hampshire home with
the intent of robbing it. At some point, he found the refrigerator, which held
some leftover chicken wings. He ate those, and then promptly fell asleep in
the guest bedroom, where he was discovered and detained by Terrell until the
police arrived.
Devin Gesell and two accomplices broke into a Missouri home in March
and took, among other things, a box containing what they thought was cocaine. Turns out, it was the homeowner’s father’s ashes. And even worse,
the woman, Debora Matthews, claims that two of the unnamed teens were
the deceased man’s grandchildren. That’s gonna make for an awkward family
reunion.
Frank E. Blake Jr. was already incarcerated in a Virginia jail when he was
visited by his second and third wives. Turns out, he was still married to his
second wife, whom he’d married before his divorce from his first wife was
finalized. These developments complicated things considerably: Blake was
charged with bigamy, which increased the length of his sentence by a year and
a half. Maybe he just really liked weddings?
Patrick Rempe, 24, drove his 2002 Toyota through the front door of Indian
River County Jail’s Building C. That didn’t work, so he backed out and then
tried to go through the fence. That also didn’t work, so he tried to climb the
fence, where he got stuck on the razor wire. What was Rempe trying to accomplish? He told police he wanted to visit friends who were currently incarcerated, a decision he’d reached after getting high on “flakka,” a synthetic
stimulant.
Reliford Cooper, III, fled from police one Wednesday evening in October,
leading them on a high-speed chase that involved running through a stop sign
and two ditches before crashing into a house. “I wasn’t driving that car,” he
told police when he was being handcuffed. “My dog was driving that car.” No
dog was found at the scene.
Police in Anchorage, Alaska, spent at least some of August searching for
a man in a “fairly realistic” bear costume who was caught harassing several
actual bears in the Chilkoot River. “This is not the first time we’ve encountered
a man in a bear suit,” Fish and Game spokeswoman Megan Peters told the
Associated Press, though the experience apparently did not help them make
an arrest.

Doug T: Regarding the officer's guilt or innocence, that is still yet to be determined. She will have her day in court. But regarding the narrative that a cop just shot
an innocent black man with a broke down car in the middle of the road, well that narrative has been proven false!
Chafferty S: People on PCP are unaware, fearless and crazy strong. The characteristics of someone on PCP are easily recognizable. If she recognized that, she is
in the right in my opinion.
Charley E: Everyone actually following this case are not surprised. And no one
should be surprised if Shelby either gets her charges reduced or if she's acquitted.
Mark M: It's easy to be an arm chair critic after the fact. Years ago I had to deal
with a guy strung out on Coke. He was naked, covered in blood, and he was able to
pull a newel post out from a porch because of his high. Because there were more than
just myself there, he was subdued with batons. You weren't there, you don't know,
don't judge!
Baptiste D: He was unarmed and everyone else had tazers out except her she
shot and killed him in cold blood just be cuz he wouldn't listen smh still don't matter
what he was on he didn't pose a threat
James W: Here's a guy on his way home from college, a devoted family man.
A leader in his church, who broke down on the road, was gunned down by police
while his hands were up and unarmed....but since he tested positive for a drug. It's a
good kill.
Trey C: Mixed feelings is about the only way to describe how I feel about this
one. On one hand you have a felon who is acting irrational and non compliant. On the
other you have a man who o don't believe needed to be shot. I wasn't there so I can't
judge too harshly. But I understand her training as I have been through it. I'm almost
certain she didn't mean to shoot him, she only fired one round. Which is not what she
is trained to do, she was the only one that fired a shot. You could hear the stress in
her voice, cops are human and get scared too. Bottom line is this, she got scared and
had her booger hook on the bang switch. The shooting was most likely a involuntary
body response to stress. The studies are out there and have been done, when people
get scared the body takes over. The same as when someone scares you, you instantly
take in a quick breath. You can't stop that from happening the body takes over. Accidents have consequences and I fell that she will answer for it. A man lost his life and
a public servant lost her career. Bad deal all the way around.
Mariette W: Whatever happened to shooting someone in the leg? If your aim
isn't good enough you should not be carrying. Shooting in the leg may have killed him
also, given, but he would have stood a chance and she would no longer be in danger
(unless he was armed)
Willy E: The officers guilt or innocence is still going to be evaluated in court,
regardless of this toxicology report. So everyone, please don't go burn down the city.
Wendy L: So the fact that he was on drugs proves that...he was on drugs.
Doesn't prove that he did anything to deserve being shot dead. And why was it that
she shot him dead when the other officer used a taser?
David M: Acquittal....if those idiots think the law does apply to them they deserve to get shot when the safety for the officers is involved...
Sherrayle C: how long can PCP stay in one's system? Does it mean that he
was high that day or could you smoke PCP 2 days ago 3 days ago? These are questions that need to be answered.

Jamie M: That explains his actions but a jury needs to determine her reaction.

A 42-year-old Stigler man
was arrested when an officer
allegedly found him driving a
stolen vehicle through town on
October 2.
According to the police report, a Stigler officer was on
patrol when he saw a vehicle
he knew had been reported
stolen out of Warner going
eastbound on Old Military Road
at approximately 7:51 p.m. He
activated his emergency lights
and stopped the truck at Park
Street and Old Military Road.
The officer exited his vehicle and walked up to the
truck. He made contact with the driver, who was identified as Rodney Don Sloan. There was also a female passenger sitting in the front seat.
While speaking to the man, the officer asked him to
exit the vehicle and have a seat in the patrol car. Sloan
complied with the request. When they both sat down
inside the patrol vehicle, the officer contacted dispatch
and inquired about the stolen truck. Dispatch confirmed
that the vehicle was still reported as stolen out of Warner.
The officer placed Sloan under arrest and transported
to the Haskell County Jail for booking. The passenger
was allowed to leave the scene.
A wrecker soon arrived to impound the stolen truck,
and the officer notified the Warner Police Department
that he had located the vehicle. They advised they would
contact the owner.
Sloan is being charged with possession of a stolen vehicle. His bond was set at $25,000, and he is scheduled
to appear in court on October 24, 2016.

Checotah man Calvin Edward Jones II
allegedly trashed his ex’s home when his
parents took him to the house on October
5 to pick up some things.
According to the affidavit, a McIntosh
County deputy was dispatched to a residence on E. 1080 Road at approximately 6:45 p.m. A woman told him that her
sister’s ex-boyfriend, identified as Jones,
came to the house earlier that day to pick
up some of his things. While he was there,
he became angry and ripped a door off
the hinges. He also knocked some glass
pitchers onto the kitchen floor, cutting
his hand open and bleeding all over the
house.
When the woman tried to call 911, Jones ripped the phone out of her
hand. He left the residence in a silver car.
A Checotah officer located the vehicle at the intersection of Highway 69
and BUS 69. The deputy arrived shortly after to talk to the man. Jones’
dad was driving and his mom was in the front passenger seat. Jones was
in the backseat wearing a shirt covered with blood.
The deputy tried talking to Jones, but the man refused to answer any
questions. Every time the deputy would ask him a question, the man’s
dad would answer.
The deputy asked Jones to step out of the vehicle. When he did, the
deputy noticed he was unsteady on his feet, he smelled like alcohol and
his eyes were watery and bloodshot.
The officer again asked the man what happened.
Jones just replied in slurred speech, “Ask them.”
The deputy placed him under arrest.
Jones’ dad told the officer that his son had been staying with him the
past week since being released from the hospital. He said while his son
was in the hospital, Jones’ girlfriend informed him that they were no longer
together. Jones’ parents took him to the woman’s residence so he could
pick up his things. When they arrived, Jones became angry and started
breaking and throwing things around the residence. At one point, Jones
knocked some glass onto the floor, cutting his hand. His dad said they
were headed to the hospital when they were stopped by police.
Jones is being charged with malicious injury to property under $1,000
and interference with emergency telephone call. His bond was set at
$1,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on November 18, 2016.
