On Oct 13, the LeFlore County Sheriff's Office requested
OSBI investigate an officer-involved shooting in Spiro.
At approximately 3 p.m., an elderly Spiro homeowner called
to report a man had come inside her home and stolen her
purse. That man then left the area on foot.
LeFlore County sheriff's deputies were in the area and responded immediately. They found that suspect had walked inside another home in the 17000 block of Shelley Carlisle Drive,
a short distance from the home that was burglarized. The man
reportedly was wielding several guns.
Officers surrounded the home where the suspect was hold
up. Officers yelled for the suspect to come out. The suspect
walked onto the front porch with guns in his hands. The officers told the man to drop the guns. The man lifted a gun toward the officers.
One LeFlore County deputy fired his weapon killing the suspect at the scene.
The suspect is identified as Freddie Cooper, 36, of Spiro.
OSBI agents are collecting information and evidence from the scene. When the investigation is complete, agents will provide the district attorney with the facts of the case. The district attorney will determine whether the shooting was justified.

A Hugo woman called police
when her male accomplice allegedly shot a hole in the ceiling around
3:29 a.m. on September 28.
She probably didn’t think she
would be the one in the back of a
cop car.
According to the affidavit, police
responded to a call of shots fired in
the 1000 block of East Jefferson.
When they pulled up at the residence, 39-year-old Amy Renee Lee
ran out of the house screaming and
crying.
She said a man was inside the
house, and he had shot a hole in her
ceiling with a shotgun. They put her in a patrol vehicle and heard a
man inside the house yell, “I have my hands up!”
The man exited the house according to police directions. Officers
detained him and found a shotgun shell in his front pocket.
Police went inside the residence and found a spoon with a burnt
residue in one of the bedrooms. According to the officer, spoons are
often used to consume meth.
An officer asked Lee for her statement, and then asked about the
spoon with residue found in her bedroom. She said she didn’t know
about the spoon.
The man said otherwise, however. He told police Lee kept her
methamphetamine in her bedroom, and he said there were a couple
baggies of meth behind the VCR in the living room.
Police took Lee to jail and obtained a search warrant for the residence.
Lee is being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous
substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. She was
released on a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on
October 28, 2014.

What happens when a 19-year-old tries to buy a TV with a stolen
check? Yep, he goes to jail.
On October 8, a Walmart employee called the police department
and said Stigler man Hayden Carl Cole was trying to buy a 46-inch
flatscreen television with a check belonging to someone else, the affidavit states.
When the officer arrived at the store, the employee told him when
Cole tried to buy the TV, he handed the cashier a blank check. When
the cashier asked him if that was his name on the check, Cole told
him it was his grandpa’s. When he was asked for identification, Cole
said it was in his truck; he left the store and didn’t return.
Police went to Cole’s residence in the 200 block of NE C Street and
found Cole sitting in the front yard. They asked him if he had permission to buy the TV with
the check. He said no.
The officers took him to the police department for questioning. He told them when he tried
to buy the television, he got scared when they asked for ID and he left. When asked about the
check, Cole told them he had been at a store around noon with another man. He said he took
the check from the man and went to Walmart around 4 p.m. to buy the TV. The check didn’t
belong to the man he was with, and Cole said he didn’t know where the man got it from.
Cole is being charged with knowingly concealing stolen property and obtaining cash or merchandise by bogus check/false pretenses. He was released on a $5,000 bond and is scheduled
to appear in court on October 14, 2014.

Two 18-year-old Wilburton men got to experience life behind bars when they were arrested for having a stolen pistol
on October 6.
According to the affidavit, a Latimer County deputy went
to a residence in the 100 block of Blossingame in Wilburton
around 5:30 p.m., due to reports of Thomas D. Calvin threatening students with a pistol at Eastern Oklahoma State College.
When he arrived at the residence, he made contact with Calvin and Braden Lane Sumpter. Calvin told police that a student stole marijuana from him, so he took a gun to campus.
Witnesses told police Calvin showed students a pistol in his
waistband and said, “I have six bullets.” He also allegedly sent
threatening text messages to students.
Calvin claimed he took the gun to campus for protection. At
first, he said he borrowed a friend’s dad’s pistol and he had
taken it back to the friend, but he changed his story and said
the pistol was inside the residence.
Calvin took officers inside the home and handed over a
loaded .32 caliber pistol. He said his roommate bought the
pistol a couple of weeks ago.
Sumpter agreed, and said he purchased the gun from a man
in Poteau for $40. He said he thought it was weird the man
was selling to so cheaply, but said he thought someone gave
the man the gun because the person owed him money. He
wasn’t sure where the seller of the pistol lived.
A deputy checked the pistol’s serial number, and he discovered the pistol was reported stolen.
Thomas is being charged with concealing stolen property,
carrying weapon and placing obscene/threatening/harassing
phone call. His bond was set at $2,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on October
21, 2014.
Sumpter is being charged with knowingly concealing stolen property. He was released on a
$1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on October 21, 2014.

A McAlester woman took a situation into her own hands by grabbing a gun and shooting at her pesky neighbor’s residence.
She then went to jail.
According to the affidavit, a Pittsburg County deputy was dispatched to the 700 block of Key Road on October 7 around 10:30
a.m. due to Debra Dean Adams, 55, shooting her gun at a residence.
On the way to the residence, the deputy passed the suspect’s vehicle. He turned around and pulled in behind the van in a driveway off
Highway 113. He asked Adams what had happened earlier. She said
a man and his wife were tearing up her vehicle and trying to burn
her house down. He asked her if she had a weapon in her vehicle. She said she did. When
he asked why she was shooting at the residence, she told him, “I have to shoot to keep them
away from my house.”
The deputy retrieved the weapon and noticed it smelled strongly of gunpowder, as if it had
just been fired. He then went to speak to the neighbor.
The neighbor said she was in her house watching TV when she saw Adams pull up in her
driveway. She said she started walking outside, but she saw the barrel of a gun pointing out
of the window toward her house. She said Adams fired the gun multiple times, so she ran and
hid in the garage.
The victim added she called her neighbor to come over and grabbed her pistol. He did, and
when they stepped outside, Adams stopped in the roadway in front of her house, jumped out
of the vehicle and fired another shot toward the house. The woman’s neighbor said he shot
the victim’s pistol into a tree to scare Adams off.
Adams told police she heard the neighbors mowing, and she wanted to stop and talk with
them to stop the fighting. Apparently Adams had previously obtained a restraining order
against the neighbors. When the deputy asked her why she would go on their property after
getting the restraining order, she said she wanted to talk to them.
Adams kept changing her story and claimed to be the victim.
Adams is being charged with two counts of use of vehicle in discharge of weapon. She was
released on a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on October 17, 2014.

of football season in Oklahoma! Not only have our major colleges
had their first home games, but all across the state, people are
traveling to and from football games from 4th graders on up to
high school. With that in mind, I wanted to re-visit a few tips to
make this football season safe.
Lets start with college. Whether you are a Sooner, Cowboy,
or Golden Hurricane fan, one thing is for sure...you aren’t
alone! There are thousands of fans for each home game
traveling to the stadiums. This volume of traffic demands your
consideration. First, if you can, leave early! The closer to game
time, the worse the traffic gets, so if you can, get to the stadium
early. There are plenty of things on a game day that are going on
prior to kickoff that you can spend your time enjoying. There are
usually lots of free stuff for the kids to do that make the whole game
day experience wonderful for them as well.
Second, be patient! You WILL run into traffic, so plan ahead,
and don’t get frustrated with it. Turn on the radio, listen to the pregame hype, and remember to be a safe, courteous driver. Getting
frustrated, and getting into a hurry, can result in a traffic accident
that will delay your arrival, and could end up being very expensive,
not to mention the potential for injury.
Last, be aware that there are usually some temporary traffic
control changes on game days. Both before and after the games,
law enforcement will be at intersections controlling the traffic
lights, and making adjustments to keep the traffic flowing in the
best possible manner. Be alert and aware, and recognize when and
where these temporary traffic controls are taking place.
Now, on to the local games! The biggest thing I remember from
growing up is that parents are usually running late to get to games,
because of what time they got off work. This has not changed...we
Troopers are stopping folks who are speeding trying to get to a kid’s
ball game all the time. While we understand, (we have kids too!)
we also see all too often what happens when accidents happen as
a result of unsafe speed. If you get stopped by us, you’re going to
be even later, and possibly on the hook for a hefty fine. If you get
involved in an accident, you may not make the game at all.
Finally, when you do get there, be a good fan! Cheer your team,
don’t denigrate the other team. Use appropriate language in the
stands; remember, there are kids of all ages in the stands with
you. We Oklahomans love our football, just remember to show
your support in a positive way! Thanks for reading, buckle up, and
be safe!
Tips from a Trooper

OK Jailbirds is cooperating with the efforts of Oklahoma Department of Human Services to impact the huge
social problem of irresponsible parents who are not paying the child supports ordered by our courts.
If these biological-only parents won’t honor the courts order, perhaps public shame will get their attention.
If you know how to reach any of the Deadbeat Parents found on this page, please call the Oklahoma Department of Human Services
Child Support HotLine at 1-800-522-8014
Importance of Child Support
Children are our future and child support helps make sure they
have a chance at a productive life. Children have the right to get
support from both parents and do not lose this right when a
parent leaves the home.
When children do not receive child support, they can:
Suffer both Emotionally and Physically
Live within a Reduced Standard of Living
Have their Basic Needs Unmet
Become Non-Supportive when they become Parents.
When one or both parents do not support their children,
taxpayers often pay the cost of raising children. When children
receive public assistance and their parents pay no child support,
all taxpayers bear the cost of supporting the children.

This summer, an undercover OSBI Internet Crimes Against Children
Unit agent downloaded images containing child pornography on a
Cement man’s computer. That opened an investigation that concluded
Oct. 9 with the arrest of Ronald Chase Williams, 25.
OSBI agents and members of the state ICAC Task Force including
officers from Stillwater Police Department, Grady County Sheriff’s
Office, and the Oklahoma Attorney General’s Office served a search
warrant at Williams’ home at 2762 County Street 2760 in Cement.
A preview of computer devices inside the home revealed images
containing child pornography.
Agents arrested Williams and booked him into the Grady County jail
for distribution of child pornography, possession of child pornography,
aggravated possession of child pornography (more than 100 images), and violation of the Oklahoma
Computer Crimes Act.

A Tulsa man with a rap sheet, and his Rattan sidekick were arrested on October 7 in Pushmataha County because they had things
they shouldn’t have had in their vehicle.
According to the affidavit, a state trooper was on patrol on Old
Moyers Road when he saw a white truck with a cracked windshield
drive by around 10 a.m. He pulled over the vehicle and made contact
with the driver, Ashtin Neese, 24, and Edward Taylor Martin, 26.
The trooper checked Neese’s information and was informed that
Neese had felony warrants in Pushmataha County. He placed him
under arrest and asked Martin if there was anything illegal in the
vehicle. Martin said, “There shouldn’t be.”
The trooper told Martin to step out of the vehicle and move away
from the truck. When he went back to the vehicle, he saw two syringes on the ground next to the passenger door that hadn’t been
there before. There was a liquid substance in them that later tested
positive for methamphetamine. He placed Martin in handcuffs and
had him stand against the patrol car.
The trooper continued to inventory the vehicle, and he found a
loaded rifle behind the driver’s seat.
Martin later informed the trooper that he accidentally scratched
the patrol car. The trooper noticed two deep scratches on the hood
that were about 3 inches long. The trooper later watched video the
camera in his car caught. He saw Martin lean back on the hood and
move his hands back and forth.
A Pushmataha deputy arrived to assist. He transported Martin to jail, and Martin told him
that all of his friends were dope heads, and the syringes could be anyone’s. He also said the
“punk ass trooper had a nice little scratch on his hood” thanks to him.
Neese is being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of
firearm during commission of a felony, possession of firearm after former felony conviction,
transporting a loaded firearm in motor vehicle and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
Martin is being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession
of firearm during commission of a felony, possession of firearm after former felony conviction, transporting a loaded firearm in motor vehicle, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and malicious injury to property.
Both of their bonds were set at $10,000, and both men are scheduled to appear in court
on November 12, 2014.
Just scratching the surface
Doesn’t the Bible Say “An
Eye for an Eye, and a Tooth
for a Tooth”?
Jesus said, “You have
heard the law that says the
punishment must match the
injury: ‘An eye for an eye,
and a tooth for a tooth.’ But
I say, do not resist an evil
person! If someone slaps
you on the right cheek, offer
the other cheek also. If you
are sued in court and your
shirt is taken from you, give
your coat, too.” (Matthew
5:38-40)
God’s purpose behind
this law was an expression
of mercy. The law was given
to judges and said, in effect, “Make the punishment fit the crime.” It was
not a guide for personal revenge. These laws were given to limit vengeance
and help the court administer punishment that was neither to strict nor
too lenient. Some people, however, were using this phrase to justify their
vendettas against others. People still try to excuse their acts of revenge by
saying, “I was just doing to him what he did to me.”

When a Calera woman barricaded herself
in a house and refused to answer the phone,
it was up to police to enter the house and see
what was going on.
It wasn’t pretty — and the woman wasn’t
happy.
On September 25, a subject met with officers
from the Bryan County Sheriff’s Office about
some documents he needed from a residence
in the 4100 block of Treaty Road. The man
said his sister had been living at the residence,
and there were several items and other property piled outside of the house.
He said he tried to contact his sister, 57-yearold June Katherine Shobe, but she wouldn’t answer the phone, or come
to the door. The man said Shobe had barricaded herself in the house
and put items in front of the door.
When deputies went to the house, there was a straw curtain strewn
across the steps and a barricade of wood lattice that was wired into
place. When the officers started to remove the curtain, Shobe opened
the front door and asked if they needed anything. She told them they
didn’t have any right to be there, and she wasn’t going to let anyone in
the house.
An officer told her they had a court order, and she needed to open
the door, or he would open it and take her to jail. She replied, “Then do
whatever and take me to jail in my pajamas.”
Police removed the lattice barricade, and allowed the man to go into
the house to get the documents he needed.
Shobe wasn’t happy, and she said no one cared about her and no one
would listen to her.
After lots of arguing and protesting, Shobe called 911 and asked for
an officer to come to her location. She tried to push officers out of her
way, and when an officer tried to place her in handcuffs, she started
fighting and throwing herself to the ground.
Police were eventually able to place her in handcuffs and transport
her to jail in her pajamas.
The inside of the house was in “complete disarray,” there were
strange quotes written on the wall, and the kitchen was “completely
uninhabitable.”
Shobe is being charged with assault and battery on police officer, resisting an officer and obstructing an officer. His bond was set at $2,000,
and she is scheduled to appear in court on November 6, 2014.

Calling police pigs never makes a good defense as to why you
shouldn’t be arrested. Atoka man Wesley Breshears, 34, apparently
didn’t care. He unleashed a string of profanities and name calling
when police stopped him for acting strange on September 30.
According to the affidavit, an Atoka police officer was advised
about a “very unusual” looking man walking barefoot down Court
Street “acting very strange.” Officers found the man, identified
as Breshears, at the corner of Court and Pennsylvania Street. He
wasn’t wearing any shoes, he was unsteady on his feet, and his
physical actions were “very abnormal.”
When police approached him to make sure he was okay, Breshears started acting defensively, and he took a combative stance.
One of the officers told Breshears to relax and place his hands on
the wall.
Breshears did, but when the officer started to pat him down, he became angry and started
shouting profanities such as “f--- you, pigs,” and “Go ahead, get aggressive, you f------ pigs.”
Breshear started resisting and tried to turn around. Officers tried to place restraints on
Breshears, but Breshears struggled and resisted.
Eventually, the officers placed him in handcuffs and started walking toward the patrol car.
Breshears bent over and “lunged” toward the police car, ramming into the rear door. No
damage was done, however, and police were eventually able to put him in the patrol car and
take him to jail.
Breshears is being charged with obstructing an officer and resisting an officer. His bond
was set at $2,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on December 15, 2014.

A 40-year-old Purcell man and his 22-year-old Fort Worth
accomplice were arrested in Checotah on October 3 after they
ran a state trooper off the road.
Not smart!
According to the police report, the trooper noticed a car traveling through the parking lot of a grocery store around 8:27 p.m.
When the car drove out of the parking lot, the driver failed to
yield, forcing the trooper to “take evasive action to avoid a collision.”
The car then turned onto South Broadway at a high rate of
speed, crossing the centerline. The trooper pulled the vehicle
over near Cemetery Road and made contact with the driver, Felisha Louann Carshall, and passenger, Michael Chance Williams.
Carshall told the officer she didn’t have a driver’s license. Both
Carshall and Williams were sweating profusely, even though the
temperature was approximately 48 degrees outside. They were
also very fidgety.
Dispatch advised the trooper that the tag on the vehicle was
stolen; he told both subjects to put their hands on the dash. Another officer arrived to assist, and police placed Williams and
Carshall in handcuffs.
Carshall told an officer Williams had shot up meth about 10
minutes before the traffic stop. When he asked her if there were
any needles or narcotics in the vehicle, she replied, “Maybe.”
In the backseat of the car, the officer found a duffle bag containing a white crystal substance. Carshall said the bag belonged
to her friend, but Williams told them the “dope” belonged to
Carshall. He said they had both planned to “do the dope,” but
she paid for it so it belonged to her.
The substance field-tested positive for methamphetamine.
After Carshall failed sobriety tests, the couple was transported to jail.
Williams is being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. His bond was set at $15,000.

A Valliant man was caught driving around Idabel on October 6 with an
opened beer, marijuana, meth and a young
child that was not properly restrained in
the backseat.
An Idabel police officer saw a vehicle
driving north on Avenue N around 8:05
p.m. with a broken taillight and expired
tag, according to the affidavit. He pulled
the vehicle over and saw a small child sitting in the backseat only wearing a seatbelt.
The driver, 30-year-old Tony Espinoza, told the officer he didn’t
have a driver’s license, and his wife had all of the vehicle’s paperwork. The officer verified the man’s information, and a canine officer arrived to assist.
Espinoza gave the officers consent to search his vehicle, and he
saw down on the front bumper of the patrol vehicle. He bent over
and started messing with his boot, but an officer told him to sit up
and leave his shoe alone.
In the vehicle, police found an opened beer that was still cool to
the touch. An officer searched Espinoza and asked him to empty
his pockets. In Espinoza’s pockets were a plastic bag containing a
green leafy substance, a baggy containing a clear crystalline substance and rolling papers. In his hat, an officer found a partially
smoked hand-rolled cigarette containing a green leafy substance
and another baggy containing a clear substance.
The substances tested positive for marijuana and methamphetamine.
Espinoza is being charged with two counts of possession of a
controlled dangerous substance, driving without a driver’s license, failure to pay taxes due to state, failure to carry insurance
verification form and failure to use child restraint system. He was
released on a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on
November 13, 2014.
