Man steals truck
to pawn junk
When Matthew Anthony Avery, 30, test
drove a truck, he didn’t just drive it like he
stole it; the Spiro man loaded up the truck
with chemicals, electric meters, a saw
horse, duck decoys and other items, and
tried to sell them at a Spiro pawnshop.
On Aug. 28, a man reported to Spiro
police that his truck had been stolen that
morning, the affidavit states. He said he
let Avery take his truck for a test drive, because he said he wanted to buy it. The man
said he told Avery he could drive it down
the street.
Well, Avery must’ve driven down the
street and kept on going, because the truck’s owner said he hadn’t
seen Avery or his vehicle in nearly four hours.
Later that day, an officer received a call from a man that said Avery
and the stolen truck were at a local pawnshop.
When the officer arrived at the store, he saw the truck and went
inside in search of Avery. He asked the woman behind the counter if
the driver of the truck was inside the store. She motioned that he was
hiding behind the counter.
The officer slapped the counter and told Avery to come out because
he was under arrest.
Avery stood up from behind the counter and the officer placed him
in handcuffs. Avery asked why he was being arrested and the officer
told him he was in handcuffs for city and county warrants and automobile theft.
Avery insisted that he was only test-driving the truck.
After placing Avery in his patrol car, the officer noticed the menagerie of items in the back of the stolen truck. The trucks’ owner arrived
on scene and said that none of the items, except for tires, were in the
back of the truck when Avery took the vehicle.
Avery is being charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle
after former conviction of a felony. He is being held on a $10,000
bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 1, 2013.

It’s a full moon in
Leflore County
Have you thought while driving, “I
should stick my butt out the window”?
No? Maybe 39-year-old Shelly Ann
Fowler is the only one. The Tulsa woman was arrested after she exposed Leflore County residents to her full moon.
On Aug. 24, a Leflore County deputy
was driving westbound on Hwy 270
when he noticed a green car approaching his patrol vehicle at a high rate of
speed. According to the affidavit, the
female driver was hanging her upper
torso out of the window.
The driver, later identified as Fowler,
was swerving all over the road and forced several vehicles, including the deputy’s car, to swerve out of her way.
The deputy turned on his lights and attempted to pull the vehicle
over, but the car continued down the highway and reached speeds
of 100 mph.
The deputy continued the pursuit and observed Fowler take her
hands off of the steering wheel and veer into oncoming traffic. At
one point, the crazy driver attempted to stand up and pulled her
pants down, exposing her “naked buttocks” to other traumatized
motorists. A Wister police officer joined in on the pursuit and the
29-mile chase finally came to an end on Hwy 82 after Fowler took
a sharp turn too fast.
Police immediately placed Fowler in restraints; the exhibitionist
driver acted aggressively toward police and started saying things
that didn’t make sense.
Fowler was transported to the Leflore County Detention Center.
She is being charged with endangering other while eluding/attempting to elude a police officer, outraging public indecency and
reckless driving. A competency hearing for Fowler was held on Aug.
27; court and bond information were unavailable at time of print.

Police trying to fi gure out who egged and toiletpapered a house in a south-central Montana town
cracked the case after fi nding a grocery bag and a
receipt in the backyard.
Livingston Police Chief Darren Raney said that
a resident reported his house had been targeted by
vandals on Aug. 29.
Investigating offi cers tracked the bag and receipt
to a Livingston store, where video from a surveillance
camera showed a group of teenage boys purchasing
eggs and toilet paper.
Raney tells the Livingston Enterprise the boys,
ages 15 and 16, were referred to the juvenile
probation offi cer.
An Ohio man has been cited for public
drunkenness and criminal trespass for a notso-great effort to commandeer a freight train in
northwestern Pennsylvania.
Police say 28-year-old Robert Nerone Jr., of
Jefferson, Ohio, somehow hopped aboard the
eastbound CSX train in Ashtabula, Ohio and moved
car to car as the train slowed to a stop in Millcreek
Township. That’s in Pennsylvania, just outside of
Erie, about 120 miles north of Pittsburgh.
Millcreek police Capt. Randy Faipler tells the
Erie Times-News that Nerone reached the train’s
main engine and banged on the windows, telling the
engineer and conductor he was commandeering the
train about 3:30 a.m.
Online court records don’t list an attorney for
Nerone, who doesn’t have a listed phone.
There are people who feel the way some motorists
park should be a crime. In this case, it was - sort of.
Police in New York State say a man wanted on a
probation violation ended up being arrested because
he parked so poorly.
A state police investigator spotted a man as he
tried to back his vehicle into a parking space at a
truck stop in Rotterdam, New York.
Police say the investigator took note of the man
because he parked crookedly, taking up two spaces
in the process.
When the man walked away, he recognized
Matthew Bergeron from previous arrests - and knew
he was a suspect in a burglary and was wanted on
outstanding warrants in a neighboring county.
He was taken into custody without incident - and
sent to jail.
That’s something you might not want to post on
Facebook.
The online message said the pot dealer would
be in a store parking lot in a black and silver Ford
Taurus for anyone who wanted to buy.
Police in Bemidji, Minnesota, went looking for the
pot dealer.
But a local paper reports offi cers didn’t fi nd
anyone.
The pot sale notice was posted on a community
for-sale page.
The man who set up the page says police asked
that the marijuana listing be left up, so offi cers could
try to catch the dealer.

A gun in the face helps with
selective hearing
On Aug. 19, Latimer County police responded to a report of a domestic assault at a Wilburton residence. The victim who called to report the
assault had also reported being assaulted by her boyfriend, 38-year-old
Jerry Lynn Dobbins Jr., a few days earlier.
When the deputies arrived, they saw a blue truck being driven by a male.
According to the affidavit, the driver, identified as Dobbins, tried to drive
around the patrol car to exit the driveway. When police stopped his vehicle, Dobbins attempted to exit the truck. Police ordered him to stay in the
vehicle and saw him reach for something under his seat. Dobbins ignored
orders to put his hands in the air and continued to reach under his seat.
A deputy drew his weapon, pointed it at Dobbins and ordered him to get
out of the vehicle; he immediately placed Dobbins in handcuffs for officer
safety.
The deputy looked inside the vehicle where Dobbins had been reaching
and saw what appeared to be a homemade firearm on the floorboard, a brass smoking pipe with a green
leafy substance inside of it, needles, a metal spoon with a crystal-like residue and a small baggy with a
white crystal-like substance that later field-tested positive for methamphetamine.
The victim told police that Dobbins had hit her three times in the head with a closed fist and as a
result, she had a hematoma on her head. Dobbins was placed under arrest and taken to the Latimer
County Jail.
Dobbins is being charged with possession of controlled dangerous substances (methamphetamine
and marijuana), unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and domestic abuse (assault and battery).
Bond information was not available at time of print. He is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 1, 2013.

Importance of Child Support
Children are our future and child support helps make sure they
have a chance at a productive life. Children have the right to get
support from both parents and do not lose this right when a
parent leaves the home.
When children do not receive child support, they can:
Suffer both Emotionally and Physically
Live within a Reduced Standard of Living
Have their Basic Needs Unmet
Become Non-Supportive when they become Parents.
When one or both parents do not support their children,
taxpayers often pay the cost of raising children. When children

OK Jailbirds is cooperating with the efforts of Oklahoma Department of Human Services to impact the huge
social problem of irresponsible parents who are not paying the child supports ordered by our courts.
If these biological-only parents won’t honor the courts order, perhaps public shame will get their attention.
If you know how to reach any of the Deadbeat Parents found on this page, please call the Oklahoma Department of Human Services
Child Support HotLine at 1-800-522-8014
Importance of Child Support
Children are our future and child support helps make sure they
have a chance at a productive life. Children have the right to get
support from both parents and do not lose this right when a
parent leaves the home.
When children do not receive child support, they can:
Suffer both Emotionally and Physically
Live within a Reduced Standard of Living
Have their Basic Needs Unmet
Become Non-Supportive when they become Parents.
When one or both parents do not support their children,
taxpayers often pay the cost of raising children. When children
receive public assistance and their parents pay no child support,
all taxpayers bear the cost of supporting the children.

Heavener man
attacks ex’s lover
A McAlester love triangle gone wrong resulted
in one man going to the emergency room and another one going to jail.
On Sept. 1, a McAlester police officer was
dispatched to a residence in reference to an assault that had just occurred. En route, the officer
received a call from dispatch that the subject,
27-year-old Jose Luiz Zaleto had fled the scene
of the assault and was possibly headed to his
home in Heavener.
When the officer arrived at the residence
where the assault had occurred, he spoke to a
woman that said Zaleto, her ex-boyfriend, had come into her bedroom
and hit her current boyfriend in the back of the head with a pistol. According to the police report, the officer noticed the victim had a cut on his
forehead and was bleeding.
The victim told the officer that he was sleeping when Zaleto entered
the room and hit him. The victim said it was dark in the room and at first,
he couldn’t see who had hit him. When his girlfriend’s brother entered
the room and turned on the light, he saw that his assailant was Zaleto
and he had a gun in his hand.
The officer asked what kind of vehicle Zaleto was driving and put out
an alert over the radio. A short time after, an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper told the officer that he had located the vehicle in Krebs. The
trooper detained Zaleto and transported him to the Pittsburg County
Jail.
The woman’s brother had been driving Zaleto’s truck and was instructed to return to the residence. He told police that he had let Zaleto in the
house because he didn’t know that the victim was in bed with his sister.
When he heard his sister yelling, he ran to the bedroom and turned on
the lights. He said he pulled Zaleto out of the room and told him he was
going to drive him home, because he didn’t want Zaleto’s kids to see him
being arrested.
Zaleto is being charged with assault and battery with a dangerous
weapon. He is being held on a $25,000 bond and is scheduled to appear
in court on Sept. 19, 2013.

Death row execution
Anthony Banks
Anthony Banks was executed
September 10, 2013. In July,
he waived his right to seek
clemency from the state
Pardon and Parole Board.
“I can’t express the terrible
things I’ve done. I’m sorry,”
Banks reportedly said before
his execution. “To know that
I took lives hurts me. This is
justifi ed. I’ve done one good
thing in my life and that is to
become a Jehovah’s Witness.
For that, I’m eternally
grateful.”
Banks was convicted in the 1979 rape and murder of
Sun I. Kim Travis in Tulsa County. The conviction came
20 years after the crime because of newly discovered
DNA evidence. Banks had been serving a no-parole life
sentence for an unrelated killing in which he originally
had been sentenced to death. An appeal reversed that
conviction, and he made a plea bargain to avoid death.
A co-defendant, Allen Wayne Nelson, received a life
sentence.
Banks and Nelson were charged in August 1997 when
the DNA of both men was detected in evidence found on
the victim.
Banks has been on death row since November 14, 1999.

Robert Pry, a 21-year-old Arkansas man, was jailed after he
allegedly spent the night inside a Kmart huffing 16 cans of air
duster.
According to Jonesboro Police, officers were dispatched to a
local Kmart store early Sept. 1 morning after employees found
Pry asleep inside a storage room.
Officers arrived to find two feet sticking out from a cubby hole
underneath a set of stairs. Those feet belonged to Pry, who was
covered with his own urine and vomit.
Pry told officers that he entered the store just before closing time
and hid out until the employees left. That’s when he commenced
huffing 16 cans of air duster. The empty cans were found scattered
about the room where Pry was found unconscious.
Pry also stated that he borrowed a friend’s truck, drove to a
nearby Walmart, and purchased $100 worth of air duster. Officers located the truck where
they found several more empty air duster cans.
Investigators say Pry spent “all of his money” on air dusters, but wanted more. He later
told police that he was “addicted to huffing.”
Pry was taken to a local hospital before he was booked into the Craighead County
Detention Center. He was charged with commercial burglary, theft, inhaling intoxicating
compounds and failure to appear. His bond has been set at $1,700.

The following is a list of early
warning signs that someone may
be abusive. This list was put
together by survivors of domestic
violence who reflected on the
early phases of the battering
relationship and identified some of
the early warning signs of abusers.
Someone who:
• Wants to move too quickly into the relationship.
• Does not honor your boundaries.
• Is excessively jealous and accuses you of having affairs.
• Wants to know where you are all of the time and frequently calls,
emails and texts you throughout the day.
• Criticizes you or puts you down; most commonly tells you that
you are “crazy,” “stupid” and/or “fat,” or that no one would ever want
or love you.
• Says one thing and does another.
• Takes no responsibility for their behavior and blames others.
• Has a history of battering.
• Blames the entire failure of previous relationships on their
partner; for example, “My ex was a total bitch.”
• Grew up in an abusive or violent home.
• Insists that you stop spending time with your friends or family.
• Seems “too good to be true.”
• Insists that you stop participating in leisure interests.
• Rages out of control and is impulsive.
Pay attention to the “red flags “and trust your instincts. Survivors
of domestic violence frequently report that their instincts told them
that there was something wrong early on but they disregarded the
warning signs and didn’t know that these signs were indicative of
an abusive relationship. Always take time to get to know a potential
partner and watch for patterns of behavior in a variety of settings.
Keeping in touch with your support system and participating in
good self-care can lower your risk of being involved in an abusive
relationship.

abuse Awareness Month

Mark Gregory Valdez, a 33-year-old inmate at the
Oklahoma County Jail, incurred an additional charge
when officers found a loaded handgun hidden inside his
rectum.
According to the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office,
Valdez was being held at the Oklahoma County Jail on
a minor charge when a fellow inmate told authorities
that Valdez had been bragging about a handgun that he
managed to sneak into jail.
After turning Valdez’ cell inside out looking for the
firearm, officers conducted a body cavity search. That’s
when officers found a loaded Derringer pistol hidden
inside Valdez’ rectum.
Investigators say Valdez was taken to a local hospital
after the gun was removed. The gun was found in operational condition and loaded
with a single round of ammunition.
Investigators say Valdez submitted to a pat-down search when he was booked
into jail, but somehow managed to be processed without passing through a metal
detector.

Broken Arrow police arrested a man accused of sexually assaulting
two nursing home patients.
The women are 93 and 80 years old, and are patients at Franciscan
Villa in Broken Arrow. Police say what helped in their investigation is
how quickly the staff there contacted police.
Police say Uqbasilassie Zerie admitted to sexually assaulting the two
women several times over the past six or seven months. They say the
situation came to light when one of his co-workers saw something
unusual.
“She goes into the elderly patient’s room, turns on the light and sees
the suspect pulling up his pants,” said Cpl. Leon Calhoun, of the Broken
Arrow Police Department.
The staff at Franciscan Villa called police that very day, September 11, 2013.
The next day when Zerie came into work, the staff says he admitted assaulting the
woman in that room.
Officers say, when they interviewed him, he also admitted to assaulting the second
victim.
Zerie’s Facebook page says he worked for St. John, the company that owns the Villa, but
he didn’t say what his job was.
Zerie’s not listed as a licensed nurse on the state’s website.
Police say that early reporting was key.
“It’s better to get out there and verify there’s not a problem than to be called after the
fact and miss a chance to prosecute someone, because there’s no evidence or he’s gotten
out of the area,” Calhoun said.
Police say the suspect is working in this country on a green card from East Africa. They
say he’s been working in the Broken Arrow area for the past two years. Now, he faces five
counts of sexual assault.

OMITTING TO PROVIDING FOR
MINOR CHILD
By Lt. Jeff James
Oklahoma Highway Patrol
Well, the temperatures are
dropping, and fall is almost here,
and these things signal the start
of football season in Oklahoma! Not only have our major colleges
had their first home games, but all across the state, people are
traveling to and from football games from 4th graders on up to high
school. With that in mind, here are a few tips to make this football
season safe.
Lets start with college. Whether you are a Sooner, Cowboy, or
Golden Hurricane fan, one thing is for sure...you aren’t alone! There
are thousands of fans for each home game traveling to the
stadiums. This volume of traffic demands your consideration. First,
if you can, leave early! The closer to game time, the worse the traffic
gets, so if you can, get to the stadium early. There are plenty of
things on a game day that are going on prior to kickoff that you can
spend your time enjoying. There are usually lots of free stuff for the
kids to do that make the whole game day experience wonderful for
them as well.
Second, be patient! You WILL run into traffic, so plan ahead, and
don’t get frustrated with it. Turn on the radio, listen to the pregame hype, and remember to be a safe, courteous driver. Getting
frustrated, and getting into a hurry, can result in a traffic accident
that will delay your arrival, and could end up being very expensive,
not to mention the potential for injury.
Last, be aware that there are usually some temporary traffic
control changes on game days. Both before and after the games,
law enforcement will be at intersections controlling the traffic
lights, and making adjustments to keep the traffic flowing in the
best possible manner. Be alert and aware, and recognize when and
where these temporary traffic controls are taking place!
Now, on to the local games! The biggest thing I remember from
growing up is that parents are usually running late to get to games,
because of what time they got off work. This has not changed... we
Troopers are stopping folks who are speeding trying to get to a kid’s
ball game all the time. While we understand, (we have kids too!)
we also see all too often what happens when accidents happen as
a result of unsafe speed. If you get stopped by us, you’re going to
be even later, and possibly on the hook for a hefty fine. If you get
involved in an accident, you may not make the game at all.
Finally, when you do get there, be a good fan! Cheer your team,
don’t denigrate the other team. Use appropriate language in the
stands; remember, there are kids of all ages in the stands with you.
We Oklahomans love our football, just remember to show your
support in a positive way!
Thanks for reading, buckle up, and be safe!

A Checotah man was arrested af
busted -
ter he was caught being a pervert
and filming people taking a shower.
On Sept. 10, a Checotah police
officer was called to the police department to take a report. When he
arrived at the station, he spoke to a
woman who told him that on Aug.
22, a video was taken of her without her permission.
According to the affidavit, the
woman told the officer that she
had been painting a fence and took
a shower to “get the paint off” of her at her friend’s parents’ home.
While in the bathroom, the woman was allegedly filmed by her friend’s
creepy father, William Rosser Miltier, 53.
The woman showed the officer pictures that had been taken from a
video camera. The pictures revealed a sequence of events: Miltier installing the camera in the bathroom pointing toward the hot tub then
leaving, the woman walking in a short time later and undressing before getting in the shower.
Miltier had apparently decided to get creative with his gross home
movie; there were captions on the pictures that described what the
woman was doing in the bathroom.
There were also pictures of Miltier doing unmentionable things with
the woman’s undergarments.
The victim told the officer that there were several other videos on the
camera’s SD card of other people.
The officer asked her how she had obtained the pictures; the woman
told him that her friend had brought her the SD card once she and her
mother discovered that the victim was on the tape.
Miltier is being charged with being a peeping tom with photographic and electronic equipment. His bond was set at $10,000 and he is
scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 14, 2013.

Stigler couple arrested
on drug complaints
A Stigler couple was arrested after their
landlord found evidence of drug use in
their apartment.
On Aug. 16, the landlord told Stigler police that she had entered the apartment to
check on a water leak and found a spoon,
needles and a cut straw in the bedroom.
She showed police a picture of the items
that she had taken with her phone.
When police arrived at the apartment
to investigate the information, they made
contact with Joshua Dallas Johnson,
24, outside the apartment, the affidavit
states. Johnson told police that his girlfriend, Tosha Beals, 26, was inside the
apartment.
Police entered the apartment and asked
whom it belonged to; Beals told police
that the apartment belonged to her.
An officer explained that the landlord
had just been in the apartment and took a
picture of some items that may have been
used for drugs. He showed Beals the picture and asked her if there was anything
illegal in the apartment.
Beals took the officer into the bedroom
and gave him pills and some needles and
spoons that had residue on them. She
also gave him a baggie that contained a green leafy substance.
The officer asked Beals if there was anything else illegal in the apartment; she told him no, but admitted that she had been using drugs.
In the same bedroom, the officer noticed that there was an infant
in a crib. Beals told the officer that she and Johnson were the baby’s
parents. She added that there were other kids that lived in the apartment, but they were at school.
DHS was called to take the kids into custody; as Johnson was packing clothes for the children, the officer saw him grab something out
of Beals’ purse and kneel behind the bed. The officer confronted him
and made him open his hands. Johnson had pills in his hands and told
the officer that he was going to flush them so that they did not get in
trouble for them.
Beals and Johnson were transported to the police department for
questioning.
They agreed to speak to police and admitted to doing drugs in the
apartment while children were present.
Beals and Dallas are being charged with unlawful possession of
controlled drug with intent to distribute, two counts of possession
of controlled dangerous substances and unlawful possession of drug
paraphernalia. They are both being held on $25,000 bonds and are
scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 23, 2013.

Police catch four
with meth ingredients
A tip from a
store employee
resulted in police arresting four
Stigler residents
on Aug. 30 for
conspiracy and
endeavoring to
manufacture controlled dangerous
substances.
According to
the affidavit, an
employee of a
store in Stigler
told police that a
male subject had
purchased chemicals and appeared
to be under the
influence of meth.
The employee was
able to get the license plate number of the subject’s
vehicle; a Haskell
County deputy
noticed that the
vehicle matching
the tag number was commonly driven by Edwin Dewayne Monks, 47.
The deputy went to Monks’ residence but was unable to locate the vehicle.
He then went to Walmart and saw the vehicle in the parking lot; he watched
as 19-year-old Matthew Shane Yaws approached the car.
The deputy contacted a drug task force agent, who contacted the Walmart
pharmacy and discovered that Yaws had just purchased Claritin-D.
After waiting for the vehicle to leave the Walmart parking lot, police
pulled the vehicle over because the driver, identified as Monks, wasn’t wearing a seat belt. There were also three passengers in the car, including Yaws,
Amanda Jo Hess, 31, and Dominic Rogers, 18.
After receiving consent to search the vehicle, police found an unopened
box of a Claritin-D containing pseudoephedrine, an unopened can of Drano
crystals and an unopened package of batteries, ingredients police say are
commonly used to cook meth.
All four of the car’s occupants were transported to the Haskell County
Detention Center to be interviewed.
During the interviews, Monks and Rogers admitted that the items had
been purchased to manufacture methamphetamine. Hess and Yaws denied
the allegations.
The four individuals are each being charged with conspiracy to manufacture controlled dangerous substances and endeavoring to manufacture controlled dangerous substances. They are each being held on $100,000 bonds
and are all scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 23, 2013.
