GONNA GO DOWN FIGHTIN'
Poteau man Rocky Lee Benson, 34,
allegedly kicked down a door and attacked some police officers on September 7. The man’s father blamed his
son’s behavior on methamphetamine.
According to the affidavit, Poteau officers were dispatched to a motel in the
2000 block of North Broadway at approximately 9:43 a.m. to investigate a
burglary in progress. The motel owners
told them where the suspect was. The
officers went to the area and noticed
that one of the rooms had a broken
door frame.
A woman in the room said a man
had just kicked in the door and tried
to attack her and her husband. She
pointed to a room and told police the
suspect was inside.
An officer knocked and told the occupants to answer the door. A man opened the door and told the officer,
“It’s my son.” The officer looked in the room and saw that Benson was trying
to climb out of the window.
Benson approached him with a beer bottle in his hand. The officer told
him to drop it. When he didn’t, the officer pulled out his taser and stunned
the man. The stun knocked Benson to the floor, but it wasn’t enough to
keep him down. The officer tried to grab the man, but Benson jumped out
of a window.
The officer then pursued Benson as he ran west across Circle Drive. Officers caught up the the man in the 1000 block of North Paul Mathis. Benson
fought back and kicked an officer in the back. He cussed at officers and
threatened to kill them as they placed him in handcuffs and leg restraints.
Benson continued to make growling noises and tried to bite an officer.
An officer went back to the motel and spoke to the victims about the
incident. A woman said she was lying in bed when a man kicked open the
door and screamed at her. Benson had also managed to break a window
and damage another door at the hotel.
The man’s father told officers that his son was on meth and hadn’t slept
for several days.
Benson is being charged with burglary in the first degree, two counts of
battery/assault and battery on police officer, malicious injury to property under $1,000, and public intoxication. His bond was set at $40,000, and he is
scheduled to appear in court on September 19, 2016.

When police in Vancouver, Canada, asked to search Jason Pauchay’s apartment for drugs, he was not a suspect—in fact, they were looking for someone
else. That all changed when they got a look at how his name was listed on his
cell phone: “Jason Pauchay Drug Dealer.”
When Stephan Crane broke into the Ravelli Republic (Montana) newsroom,
he used the computers to watch porn and check Facebook. Then Crane
doused the office with a fire extinguisher, took some candy, and left. It wasn’t
difficult to find him, however; the police just followed the trail of stolen M&Ms
that led to his sister’s place across the way.
As two men waited on line at the coffee shop to pay their bill, a third cut in
front of them. He threw a drink at the clerk, and demanded all the money from
the till. Temporarily surprised, the men quickly recovered and handcuffed the
crook. Apparently in his rush the criminal didn’t notice they were police officers—in full uniform.
In Mesa, Arizona, a home break-in was foiled when the burglar jumped
through the bedroom window—and got trapped in a clothes hamper. Cops
took it from there. (That definitely wasn’t the kind of clean getaway he had
planned.)
Recently, a woman in Fresno, California, was stopped at a DUI checkpoint
for being soused. Ever helpful, she offered up this info: “My husband’s right
behind me, and he’s even drunker than I am.”
A German bank robber sent mocking emails to local police, ridiculing their
efforts to arrest him. First he let them know they had his age, build, and accent
wrong. Then he corrected their announcement that he’d escaped on foot; no,
he had a getaway car! The cops got the last word in, though, when they arrested the guy a few hours later. They used his email to trace him.
A woman in Somerset, Massachusetts, was arrested for breaking and entering. But she was quickly caught thanks to her ankle bracelet … the one fitted
with a GPS system … that she had gotten from the police … for being on
probation from an earlier breaking-and-entering case.

LATIMER COUNTY SHERIFF
JESSE JAMES 111 NORTH CENTRAL
WILBURTON, OK 74578
(918) 465-4012
Wilburton woman Dorothy Mae Hodson, 62, was
arrested on August 22 after she allegedly tried to
intimidate some witnesses out of reporting a crime.
According to the police report, a Wilburton officer
assisted with an incident at a residence in the 1300
block of East Rock Island shortly after 11 p.m. The
officer made contact with two victims and tried to
hand them a blank voluntary statement form.
Hodson stepped in between the officer and victims and told the officer that the victims weren’t going to complete the statements.
The officer informed her that he wasn’t speaking
to her and told her to move aside. Hodson instead tried to take the forms
from the victims. She told them that if they completed the statement, she
was going to have them evicted from the property.
One of the witnesses told the officer that this wasn’t the first time this had
happened. Hodson had threatened the woman once before for trying to report a crime. She said that she had gone to the district attorney’s office and
recanted her statement due to Hodson intimidating and threatening her.
While the officer was trying to talk to the woman, Hodson interrupted
them and once again told the woman not to complete the voluntary statement. Hodson said, “The police are going to use it against us.”
The woman informed Hodson that she was going to fill it out anyway.
Even after officers warned Hodson that it was a crime to threaten people
for reporting a crime, she refused to stop.
While the witnesses were completing the forms, Hodson stood over
them, reading what they had written. She then told them that she was
going to complete eviction paperwork and serve them with the papers the
next day.
Hodson is being charged with three counts of intimidation of witness and
obstructing an officer. Her bond was set at $3,500, and she is scheduled
to appear in court on September 20, 2016.

Lequire man Tony Joe Noel, 26, is being charged with
endangering others while eluding police after he led an officer on a high-speed chase through Quinton on August 31.
According to the affidavit, a Quinton officer was parked
near the football field when he saw a white SUV pull into
the EZ Mart at 12:45 a.m. A man exited the vehicle and
went inside the store for a few minutes. When he returned
to the SUV, the man, later identified as Noel, jumped into
the driver’s seat and tore out of the parking lot in a dangerous manner. He turned east onto Highway 31 at a high
rate of speed.
Noel cut one vehicle off and passed the driver in a no passing zone.
The officer pursued the man, reaching speeds in excess of 110 mph.
Around 12:57 a.m., the officer received a phone call from a blocked number.
The person on the other end of the line told him that Noel was very intoxicated
and he had a gun; the caller then hung up.
The suspect tried to turn south onto Highway 2, but he lost control of the
vehicle and swerved into the ditch, running over two street signs before coming
to a stop.
Noel then jumped out of the vehicle and took off running.
The officer briefly lost sight of the man, but with the help of his flashlight, he
saw a silhouette of a man on top of a hill. He then saw what appeared to be
muzzle flash and heard a loud pop -- Noel was shooting at him.
The officer retrieved his shotgun from the patrol car.
A man who had been at the store was parked on the side of the road. He said
Noel was his friend, and Noel had walked into the store while very intoxicated
and bragging that he was going to steal some cars that night.
Noel had recently been charged with larceny of an automobile out of Quinton.
Several other law enforcement agencies arrived on scene to assist the officer.
They were unable to immediately locate the man.
Noel is being charged with endangering others while eluding police. His bond
was set at $2,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on September 30,
2016.

Man arrested in Shawnee, Kansas, Wal-Mart attack
involving Good Samaritans
A suspect was arrested and charged September 13 in
the Sunday attack at a Shawnee Wal-Mart in which two
Good Samaritans intervened.
Shawnee police said 27-year-old Arthur Fred Wyatt III
of Overland Park was charged in Johnson County District
Court with attempted first-degree murder, attempted aggravated kidnapping and attempted aggravated robbery.
A 39-year-old Kansas City, Kan., woman who had been
shopping at the Wal-Mart at Shawnee Mission Parkway
and Maurer Road was attacked in the parking lot about
1:30 p.m. September 11. Two men approached her while she was putting her child in
a safety seat, police said. She was struck in the head.
A Good Samaritan tried to intervene, and one of the attackers shot him. A second
Good Samaritan then shot one of the attackers, killing him.
The other attacker escaped on foot. A man who fit that person’s description was
detained but later released.
Wyatt was arrested September 13. Shawnee police spokesman Maj. Dan Tennis
said he could not discuss details of the arrest because the case was now in the hands
of the district attorney.
The Good Samaritan who was shot, a 33-year-old Kansas City man, remained in
serious condition in a hospital September 13. The woman who was attacked was
released from a hospital on September 12.
The attacker who was killed was identified Monday as 28-year-old John W. Simmons
III of Kansas City.
Ryan J: Everybody involved is from kansas city. Strange.
Jailbirds: Sorry... Shawnee, Kansas. It has been corrected in the story, but it was
in the headline.
Ryan J: Oh ok i was thinking shawnee oklahoma. Makes more since now.
Winter B: He did the right thing. What if no body was there to help her? What if
they wanted her dead and her child for sex trafficking. It could’ve been worse if he
wouldn’t have stepped in.
Jonathan B: Was the good samaritans actions justified? How is that even a question? They most likely saved that womans life from a couple of scum bags.
Derek O: We need more good ppl with guns thats the only thing that will stop the
bad guys
Stacie R: Hallelujah for the good Samaritan! Thugs deserve bad consequences
Michelle K: It is so wrong that a person teeing to be a good Samaritan and helping a defenseless woman with a child, gets charged!
Dagmar W: The Good Samaritans did the right thing!!!!!!!
Michael W: Such a crime he didn’t kill the other guym
Don L: But his mother said he was at home.

A Booneville, Arkansas, man was arrested in
Stigler on September 3 for allegedly threatening
and stalking his ex-girlfriend.
On September 2, the victim contacted a Stigler
officer around 12:48 a.m. and said she caught
her ex-boyfriend, 31-year-old John Wayland
Sears, looking in the windows of her home in the
600 block of NW Fifth Street. The officer checked
around the residence and couldn’t find the man,
but he was still there.
The woman said while the officer was patrolling
her residence, Sears called her and said, “Real
f------ smart. Call the cops on me and they drove
right past me and didn’t see me.”
According to the affidavit, the woman told the officer that Sears had
called and texted her multiple times since August 30, 2016. She also said
he had been harassing her family and coworkers.
The officer spoke to Sears on the victim’s phone twice while at her residence. The first time, Sears said, “Tell her I’ve left town now, because she’s
not worth it.”
The second time, the man told the officer he wanted to file adultery
charges on her. The officer said he didn’t have any proof of adultery, and
the man would need to get a lawyer. Sears argued and told the officer
that Oklahoma had passed a law a couple weeks before making adultery
a felony.
He said he read it on Facebook.
When the officer asked him if he believed everything he read on Facebook, Sears said, “Yes!”
Sears continued to contact the victim and argue with the officer about
Oklahoma’s laws about adultery.
On September 3 shortly after 2 a.m., the officer was on patrol when he
met Sears in his vehicle at the intersection of NW Fifth and NW H Street.
The man was placed under arrest. As they walked toward the patrol car,
Sears said he wasn’t able to get in the backseat because he had a heart
condition.
A records check revealed that the man had an active warrant out of
Bowie County, Texas, for violating a protective order. He also had a past
of habitually stalking, harassing and intimidating his girlfriends and ex-girlfriends.
Sears is being charged with stalking, driving with license canceled/suspended/revoked and improper backing. His bond was set at $100,000,
and he is scheduled to appear in court on September 20, 2016.
IF IT’S ON FACEBOOK,
IT MUST BE TRUE
Ever heard the saying, “The customer always
comes first?” Well, if you’re a drug dealer and you
don’t apply this motto, you could land yourself in jail.
Just ask Jeremy Owens and Shannon Folsom of
Savanna, Okla.
According to reports, Owens and Folsom lived at
the Knight’s Inn on Highway 69. Folsom managed
the motel. Apparently she and Owens were dealing
drugs out of their motel room and decided they were
going to stiff one of their meth customers.
On September 10, a woman tried to buy some
meth from Folsom. She paid her money for some
meth, but Folsom never gave it to her. Owens and
Folsom taunted the woman saying she “could always call the cops and tell them her dope money
was stolen.”
Well, the woman did just that. She notified authorities and the District 18 Drug and Violent Crime Task
Force was all over it.
Armed with a search warrant, the agents searched
Folsom and Owens’ room and found drugs and paraphernalia. They also found two small children present in the room.
Both Folsom and Owens were placed under arrest and taken to the
Pittsburg County jail.
Owens was charged with possession of CDS in the presence of a minor
or within 1000 feet of a park, endeavor/conspire to deliver/manufacture/
possess CDS, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Bond was
set at $25,000.
Folsom was charged with unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

An Oklahoma City man was arrested in Eufaula
after he allegedly attacked another man at a September 4 cookout who was just trying to help a woman
cook stuff on the grill.
33-year-old Travis Lloyd Atkinson told police the
fight was just over some “bullsh--.”
According to the police report, a Eufaula officer
was dispatched to the H Dock of Eufaula Cove Marina at approximately 8:21 p.m. to investigate a fight in
progress. When he arrived, he found a man holding
down Atkinson, who was yelling and cussing.
The officer placed Atkinson in handcuffs and asked
him what was going on.
The man told him, “just some bullsh--.”
Atkinson had red watery eyes, slurred speech and was unsteady on his
feet -- he admitted that he had been drinking. The officer placed him under
arrest and transported him to jail.
The victim later filled out a statement after being treated at the hospital.
He told officer that he didn’t remember much after being hit. He said he
was helping a woman cook on the grill when Atkinson got mad and started
threatening him and calling him a bitch.
The victim said Atkinson then hit him multiple times. He had a large laceration on the side of his face, severe bruising and a swollen cheek.
The man who held Atkinson down until the officer arrived on scene said
he and his wife heard the scuffle going on, so he went to see what was happening. He told the officer he found Atkinson on top of the victim, punching
and hitting him. The victim was defenseless, so the man said he grabbed
Atkinson from behind and held him on the ground. Atkinson fought back,
scratching the man and spitting on him several times.
Atkinson is being charged with aggravated assault and battery, assault
and battery, and public intoxication. He was released on a $2,000 bond and
is scheduled to appear in court on October 13, 2016.

The following is a list of
early warning signs that
someone may be abusive.
This list was put together
by survivors of domestic
violence who reflected on
the early phases of the
battering relationship and
identified some of the early
warning signs of abusers.
Someone who:
• Wants to move too quickly into the relationship.
• Does not honor your boundaries.
• Is excessively jealous and accuses you of having affairs.
• Wants to know where you are all of the time and frequently calls, emails
and texts you throughout the day.
• Criticizes you or puts you down; most commonly tells you that you are
“crazy,” “stupid” and/or “fat,” or that no one would ever want or love you.
• Says one thing and does another.
• Takes no responsibility for their behavior and blames others.
• Has a history of battering.
• Blames the entire failure of previous relationships on their partner; for
example, “My ex was a total bitch.”
• Grew up in an abusive or violent home.
• Insists that you stop spending time with your friends or family.
• Seems “too good to be true.”
• Insists that you stop participating in leisure interests.
• Rages out of control and is impulsive.
Pay attention to the “red flags “and trust your instincts. Survivors of
domestic violence frequently report that their instincts told them that there
was something wrong early on but they disregarded the warning signs and
didn’t know that these signs were indicative of an abusive relationship.
Always take time to get to know a potential partner and watch for patterns
of behavior in a variety of settings. Keeping in touch with your support
system and participating in good self-care can lower your risk of being
involved in an abusive relationship.
OCTOBER IS NATIONAL
DOMESTIC AWARENESS MONTH
We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money
or favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting officer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.
Thank you and God Bless
