Spiro woman Loretta Marie Morrison, 37, admitted to using methamphetamine after she was pulled over
for a dim headlamp.
According to the affidavit, a state
trooper was on patrol in LeFlore
County on the south side of U.S. Highway 271 when he noticed a truck driving westbound. The truck had an extremely dim passenger headlamp and
a broken front passenger turn lamp.
The truck turned north onto New
Hope Road, but there was no hope for
the driver.
The trooper pulled the truck over and made contact with the driver, Morrison. She appeared to be very nervous and told the trooper,
“I am just going right up there and I’m almost home.”
The trooper asked Morrison to exit her truck. He noticed her pupils were very dilated and she was acting fidgety. He checked her
pupils with a light, and found no reaction in either eye even though
he shined light almost directly in them.
The trooper asked Morrison if she had recently used methamphetamine. She admitted to inhaling the drug earlier in the day. Due to
her admission, her demeanor and her dilated pupils, the trooper administered standard field sobriety tests to check Morrison’s sobriety.
She wasn’t sober.
The trooper placed her under arrest and transported her to jail.
Morrison is being charged with driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs, driving with license suspended and failure
to maintain security. Her bond was set at $3,000, and she is scheduled to appear in court on September 8, 2014.

All over the state, kids are either
already back in school or about to
start, so what better time to talk
about bus and school zone safety? Everyone either has a child
starting, going back to school, or knows someone who does. We all
want to look out for the welfare of our young students, so I’ll touch
on a few items to refresh your memories about school zones and
school buses.
First, lets talk about school bus safety. One of the violations I
see most is drivers going the opposite direction not stopping for
a school bus that has its red flashers and stop sign out. I can
only assume that these drivers believe that those stop indicators
are only for the vehicles following the school bus, but this is not
true. Oklahoma State Statute Title 47-11-705 states:
The driver of a vehicle meeting or overtaking a school bus that is
stopped to take on or discharge school children, and on which the
red loading signals are in operation, is to stop the vehicle before
it reaches the school bus and not proceed until the loading signals
are deactivated and then proceed past such school bus at a speed
which is reasonable and with due caution for the safety of such
school children and other occupants.
An exception to this would be on a divided roadway where there
is a separation of the lanes of travel, such as a divided four-lane
highway. The drivers on the opposite side of the road do not have
to stop in this situation, but the drivers on the same side must stop
as stated. Again, this is only for highways that are divided by a
median, cable barrier, concrete barrier, etc. This is not applicable
for an undivided multi-lane highway. On that occasion, all traffic
must obey the bus loading signals.
Next, lets tackle the school zones. All a school zone does is reduce
the speed limit at certain times of the day. These times are when
there is a presence or potential presence of school children. What
this means is, just because you don’t see children out on the
playground, or outside the school building, does not mean the
school zone is not in effect, because the potential presence of
children is taken into account. The way a driver is notified of an
active school zone is with the flashing yellow lights attached to the
appropriate warning signs for the school zone. If a driver is cited
in a school zone, the fine doubles.
As safe and courteous drivers, we should always be looking out
for each other on the roadways, and a potential fine shouldn’t be
our motivation, but the safety of others as well as ourselves, and
especially for our youngsters. Remember, their safety is in your
hands; lets do our part to make this a safe and sound school
year. Thanks for reading, buckle up and please drive safe!

Hugo man Billy Burlin Cochnauer, 22, had apparently never
heard of public restrooms because he broke into a home on August
22 to pee.
According to the affidavit, the terrified residents called Hugo police around 9:45 p.m. to report that an intoxicated person was inside
their house in the 400 block of S. Second Street. When the officer arrived, the residents told him Cochnauer had broken in the back door
of the residence and was now in the bathroom. They said he seemed
to be highly intoxicated and was acting belligerent.
The officer found Cochnauer peeing in the bathroom with the door
open. He asked Cochnauer if he could speak with him. Cochnauer
only responded in thick, slurred profanity. The officer noticed he
was unsteady on his feet and kept swaying in all directions.
Let’s hope he had good aim!
After Cochnauer was done defiling the bathroom, the officer helped him walk to the front
door of the house because he was having difficulty walking by himself. Cochnauer complied
until they were almost out of the house.
Once they reached the front door, Cochnauer looked at the officer with an angry look, and
the officer could feel tension building in the drunk man’s arm. The officer ordered him to the
ground and placed him under arrest. He transported the plastered pisser to jail.
Cochnauer is being charged with breaking and entering dwelling without permission and
public intoxication. His bond was set at $1,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on
September 29, 2014.

Orem, Utah, police track down stolen
ring to a gut-wrenching place
Orem, Utah, police are
waiting to recover a reportedly
stolen ring — from a woman’s
stomach.
On August 29th, a Zales
jewelry store employee at
the University Mall tried to
chase down a man who had
been looking at a valuable
ring, according to an Orem
police news release. The piece
of jewelry was worth several
thousand dollars.
But the suspect escaped,
getting into an awaiting Pontiac
G6 with a female driver, and they took off, police say.
About a half hour later, a Utah Valley University officer stopped
a car matching the Pontiac’s description, with a man and woman
inside. Orem police brought the Zales employee to the scene, and she
identified the man in the car as the one who took the ring, according
to the news release.
The man and woman were arrested and brought to the police
department. Officers searched for the ring based on the suspects’
stories, such as it being tossed out the car window or possibly still
being in the vehicle, but they could not find it, said police Lt. Craig
Martinez.
Then, after “several wild goose chases, we found out that [the
woman] had swallowed the ring in attempt to hide it when they were
pulled over by police,” the release adds.
At a local hospital, an X-ray confirmed that she had, indeed,
swallowed the ring, the release adds.
Both she and the man were booked into the Utah County Jail under
suspicion of theft.

A 26-year-old Wister woman was transported to jail after she tried to avoid a checkpoint at the intersection of state Highway 82
and Cravens Road.
The reason? She was drinking and driving
with kids in her vehicle.
Not smart, Sarah G. Holbird.
According to the police report, state troopers were conducting the checkpoint around
10 p.m. August 23 when they saw a vehicle
approach the checkpoint, then turn around
when the driver appeared to see the lights of
the patrol cars.
Not so fast!
A trooper followed the vehicle and saw it turn into a private driveway. The driver turned the headlights off. The truck then started to
back up toward the highway. The trooper turned on his emergency
lights and pulled in behind the truck. He made contact with the occupants of the truck: two adults and three children.
The trooper saw the driver, Holbird, pouring a cup of alcohol on
herself and out the window. She smelled strongly of alcohol and her
eyes were red and watery.
Holbird told the trooper her driver’s license was suspended. He
asked her to step out of the vehicle and stand in front of the patrol
car. He then asked Holbird how much alcohol she had consumed.
She told him “just a few drinks of vodka.”
The trooper administered standard field sobriety tests, but Holbird definitely wasn’t fit to be driving.
Holbird is being charged with driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, second or subsequent offense, child
endangerment by driving under the influence, driving with license
suspended and transporting open bottle or container of liquor. She
was released on a $5,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in court
on September 2, 2014.

According to the affidavit, a couple of Pushmataha County deputies were getting something to drink at an Antlers convenience store
around 5:35 p.m. when a man approached them. He told them that
there was a man sitting on his mom’s front porch demanding to get
into the residence.
He asked the police to go get the man because the only people in
the house were women and they were scared.
A deputy went to the residence and made contact with the terrified
women. They told them a man was refusing to leave the residence
and kept demanding they give him the key to his residence. They added that he kept calling them bitches. The women said when they told the man, later identified as 30-year-old
Ramiro Franco, that they had called the law, he left the house and started walking down the
road.
The deputy found Franco walking down the road and realized he had dealt with this problem the night before. Franco had been doing the same thing at an Antlers apartment complex
near the courthouse.
Apparently Franco likes being locked up in a cell, because he had just been out of jail for
about a week when the deputy arrested him.
Franco is being charged with disturbing the peace. His bond was set at $1,500, and he is
scheduled to appear in court on September 10, 2014.
Stop scaring women, Franco!

Being drunk and combative with police
is no way to get out of going to jail, Aron
Wayne Swing. The 20-year-old McAlester
man apparently thought he could fight his
way out of some time behind iron bars; he
was wrong.
According to the affidavit, a McAlester
police officer was on patrol at approximately 9:07 p.m. on August 26 when he was advised of a truck in the 2600 block of N. Lost
Street that appeared to have been involved
in an accident. On the radio, he heard an officer who stopped to check on the truck say
that he was fighting with a subject.
When the officer arrived, he saw two other officers and a subject,
later identified as Swing. All three men had dirt all over them and appeared to have been on the ground.
Even though Swing was in handcuffs, he was very combative toward the officers and wouldn’t cooperate with their commands.
The officers were able to place Swing in the back of a patrol car,
but he started hitting his head against the window. When an officer
opened to door to tell him to stop, Swing tried to get out of the vehicle. He then tried to wrestle with the officer and started kicking him.
Swing smelled strongly of alcohol, was unsteady on his feet, had
thick slurred speech and bloodshot eyes. In other words, he was
drunk.
An officer took Swing to jail. Swing said he had consumed two 18
packs of beer in the last seven hours. The officer noticed Swing had
a green film on his tongue; he asked him if he had smoked any marijuana. Swing said yes, within the last four hours.
Swing is being charged with driving a motor vehicle while under
the influence of alcohol, driving with license suspended, two counts
of leaving scene of accident involving damage, resisting an officer and
assault and battery on police officer. He was released on a $7,000
bond and is scheduled to appear in court on September 5, 2014.

Almost hitting a police car head on is never a good way to start the
day, but it’s just what Mead man Chad Alan Jones, 26, allegedly did
around 1:33 a.m. on August 26.
According to the police report, a Durant police officer was driving
northbound in the 400 block of Washington when he saw a vehicle
approaching him. The vehicle suddenly crossed the center of the
roadway and approached the officer head on. The officer was able to
get out of the vehicle’s way; nothing was in the roadway that could
have caused the vehicle to swerve.
The officer turned around to follow the vehicle, but the driver,
later identified as Jones, accelerated and drove onto W. Main Street.
Jones continued to travel at a high rate of speed, and the officer confirmed by radar that the man was traveling 61 mph in a 30 mph zone.
The officer turned on his lights to pull over the vehicle. Jones took off driving across people’s front yards, bouncing over driveways and not making any apparent attempt to slow
down.
The pursuit continued, and Jones nearly took out some trashcans. When the officer turned
on his siren, Jones came to a sudden stop in the 2000 block of W. Main.
Jones’s car was beat up from his early morning escapade. The fender was messed up and
the windshield was completely shattered.
Jones exited his car, and walked to the back of the vehicle, leaning on it for assistance. He
smelled strongly of alcohol and the officer asked him how much he had had to drink. He said
four beers and two shots of whiskey. He then said four beers and four shots, eventually settling on he knew he had at least four beers, but he could have had more.
He failed the sobriety tests and the officer placed him under arrest. Apparently, this wasn’t
Jones’s first times in handcuffs. He was convicted for driving under the influence in 2009,
according to the affidavit.
Jones is being charged with driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol
and driving with license revoked. His bond was set at $6,000, and he is scheduled to appear
in court on October 22, 2014.

Atoka woman Madison Blake Morris, 18, and Caney man
Benny James Willis, 30, were arrested August 27 for breaking
into Atoka residences and taking whatever they pleased. Unfortunately for them, one of their victims had a surveillance system
set up.
According to the affidavit, Atoka police responded to a call
about a burglary on August 27 around 8:05 a.m. near the intersection of Butterfield Crossing Road and Revel Road. The owner
of the cabin, who lives in Texas, said he saw a couple on his surveillance system drive a truck to his cabin and take items. He
sent an officer photos of the suspects. The lock on the gate of the
property had been cut, and a set of fresh tire tracks marred the
driveway.
A couple of hours later, Caney police apprehended the suspects, identified as Morris and Willis. The couple appeared to be
very nervous.
Morris at first denied taking anything, but then said she took a
small sign from the cabin. She also denied having drugs or paraphernalia, but later handed over a pipe containing a white powdery residue. It field-tested positive for methamphetamine.
A K-9 was brought to the stop, and the dog alerted to the truck.
In the vehicle, police found three guns and a bow.
Willis also denied going to the cabin, but later admitted to going inside. He said he was borrowing the guns from a friend. They
later talked to the friend. He said the guns weren’t his.
Willis admitted to taking the guns from a house near Boggy
Depot Park.
A woman later called police wanting to report a burglary. The items stolen? The guns in
Willis’ possession.
Willis is being charged with second-degree burglary and knowingly concealing stolen
property. His bond was set at $100,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on September 3, 2014.
Morris is being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance. Her bond
was set at $6,000 and she is scheduled to appear in court on September 3 2014.

Eufaula man Eugene Miller, 36, apparently had no control of either his drinking or his
bodily functions when he was arrested on August 25 for being a drunk mess.
McIntosh County deputies responded to a
call of a male subject lying in a ditch on Texanna Road with blood all over his face, the affidavit states. When they arrived, they saw Miller
in the ditch and another man standing near a
vehicle at the end of the driveway. Miller didn’t
have a shirt on, and he told police his knee hurt.
Miller smelled strongly of alcohol and was very unsteady on his feet.
The deputies attempted to speak to the other man about what happened to Miller, but Miller continued to yell and stumble. He refused
to sit down and wait for EMS to arrive. He also apparently didn’t like
how many deputies had responded to the call. He looked at them and
said, “Three of you — that’s about right.” He then clenched his hands
into fists, and a deputy told him he was under arrest.
Miller simply replied. “No.” He then kept pulling away from the
deputies and resisted being arrested. The deputies were eventually
able to place Miller in hand and leg restraints, but, they then noticed
Miller had “defecated himself” and some of the, ahem, “feces” had
gotten on a deputy.
Miller continued kicking, spreading more of the feces around.
Miller’s friend told police they had been drinking, and Miller became upset and ran out of the house. He said he tried to calm Miller
down, but Miller wouldn’t listen.
Sounds about right.
Miller was taken to jail, where he continued to be aggressive and
was placed in a restraint chair.
According to the report, Miller also had an outstanding warrant for
his arrest through the Eufaula Police Department.
Miller is being charged with resisting an officer, obstructing an officer and public intoxication. His bond was set at $1,000, and he is
scheduled to appear in court on October 10, 2014.

THREATEN TO PERFORM ACT OF
VIOLENCE
Idabel man Andrew Michael Helms,
26, was locked up August 24 for being
a sorry excuse for a man. He allegedly
attacked the mother of his children after she refused to make him something
to eat.
A McCurtain County deputy was
dispatched to the hospital in reference
to an assault victim. He made contact
with a woman in the emergency room.
The woman told the deputy that Helms
became angry because she wouldn’t fix
him something to eat.
According to the affidavit, she said,
“I told him he was a big boy and could feed himself.”
Helms apparently didn’t like being called a big boy, because the
woman said he started hitting her with his fists. She said she grabbed
something to stop the bleeding in her mouth and went to her room
with her three children. She said Helms followed her and kept asking
her questions.
When she didn’t answer, he would hit her in the head. He also
threatened to kill her and anyone that helped her if she called the
cops.
The deputy noticed that the woman’s upper lip was swollen and
the inside of her lower lip had a small cut and was busted and bloody.
Helms was also arrested for county warrants.
Sounds like someone doesn’t know how to stay out of trouble.
Helms is being charged with domestic assault and battery in presence of minor and threaten to perform act of violence. Bond information and court date were unavailable at time of print.
Hopefully Helms can learn to make his own food in jail.
