NEVER TAKE THE
LAW INTO YOUR
OWN HANDS
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation
(OSBI) is investigating a homicide in McCurtain
County that resulted from a house fire on March 2,
2023.
The McCurtain County Sheriff’s Office responded
to a call of a house fire in the 2800 block of Womack
Road in rural McCurtain County. Once the fire was
put out, Danette Stowe, 43, was found deceased,
and her husband was transported to the hospital to
be treated for his injuries.
McCurtain County Sheriff Kevin Clardy said in
a press release that on February 20, deputies responded to a civil dispute west of Idabel. The
89-year-old property owner, Allen Shaw, was attempting to force the individuals residing in the residence out. Upon speaking to deputies, the owner
advised that they hadn’t paid rent in over two years
and was waiting them out. Deputies advised the
property owner of the proper process to evict said
individuals. Upon speaking with the individuals residing in the residence, they stated
they were concerned because he had been out [to the resident’s house] several
times, and they were also advised of the eviction process and was encouraged to
seek a protective order.
“Neither party at that time had broken any laws and were not subject to arrest, and
the parties separated. Neither parties did what deputies advised,” added Clardy.
On March 2, Shaw and his friend, Randy Sander, went to the victim’s house. In
order to force them out, Shaw and Sander set fire to the house. The victims were
outside the house at the time of the fire, but Stowe, in an attempt to save her dogs,
ran back into the house. She nor the dogs made it back outside.
Deputies arrested Allen Shaw, 89, and Randy Sander, 68, at the McCurtain County Sheriff’s Office on March 2. They are currently charged with Second Degree Murder and Arson in the Second Degree. Shaw and Sander both have $500,000 bonds
and remain in custody in the McCurtain County Jail. BRIANNA

AROUND
THE STATE
Agents from the Oklahoma State Bureau of
Investigation (OSBI) Internet Crimes Against
Children (ICAC) Unit arrested Christopher
Spaulding, 19, for allegations of possessing
child pornography.
The case originated in October 2022 when the National Center for Missing
and Exploited Children (NCMEC) received a report of suspected child pornography from Dropbox. The IP address associated with the account was located in Altus and NCMEC forwarded the tip to the Altus Police Department.
Altus police requested assistance from the OSBI ICAC Unit in December.
On March 2, agents served a search warrant at a residence in the 1000
block of N. Jackson Street in Altus. Spaulding was arrested at the home
and transported to the Jackson County Jail. He is facing one felony charge
of Aggravated Possession of Child Pornography and one felony charge of
Violation of the Oklahoma Computer Crimes Act. Spaulding is being held
without bail.
OSBI was assisted by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and the District
3 Drug Task Force. SHAWN

WHAT WERE YOU

Accused car thief released from NC jail allegedly steals bond agent’s SUV
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A man accused of stealing a car apparently could not resist another theft
when he bonded out of jail.
According to a bail bond agent in Charlotte, North Carolina, her vehicle was
stolen after she went inside the Mecklenburg County Jail on Dec. 30 to post bail
for a client, WSOC-TV reported. She accused a man who had just posted bail
of swiping her vehicle.
“He has to be the boldest and the dumbest criminal in the city,” Nymea Cropper told the television station. “The audacity to get out of jail, walk outside of the
jail and steal a car.”
According to police, Anthony Deshawn Goddard, 29, posted $3,000 bail after
being arrested on Dec. 29. According to online Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s
Office booking records, Goddard had been charged with possession of stolen
goods, resisting an officer, reckless driving, speeding, and operating a vehicle
without an operator’s license.
According to police, surveillance video showed Goddard breaking into Cropper’s SUV and driving away, WSOC reported.
“The car was definitely stolen at 11:02 (p.m.). I came outside at 11:05,” Cropper told the television station. “So this kid just thinks he can steal a car and
nothing’s going to happen to him.”
Cropper said that she has spoken to other bail bond businesses and believes
that if the alleged thief is caught, bail will be next to impossible to secure. She
also reiterated her message to the person who swiped her vehicle.
“I would say you’re stupid,” Cropper told WSOC. “You’re the stupidest criminal and I can’t wait until you get caught, ‘cause no one is going to bond you
out,” she said.

We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money
or favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting officer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.
Thank you and God Bless

THE GREAT ESCAPE...
ALMOST
A Bennington man tried to run from the law
earlier this month in a very unusual way…
Alan Curtis Elder, 45, was charged March 7
with Trafficking in Methamphetamine and attempting to elude a police officer, in Bryan
County District Court.
According to court records, on March 7, a Bryan County deputy tried to
stop Elder on Odell Springs Road in Bennington, but Elder had other plansand a very good reason to run from the law.
Apparently the red and green ATV he was driving just didn’t have enough
get-up-and-go to outrun the deputy and he was soon able to take Elder into
custody. While searching Elder’s person, the deputy found an undisclosed
amount of meth, but apparently is was enough to charge him with trafficking.
Bond for Elder was set at $30,000 and he was ordered back to court for his
preliminary hearing on April 5 at 8:45 a.m. If convicted, Elder could face not
more than 20 years in prison and a fine of not less than $25,000, but no more
than $200,000 for the trafficking charge. The eluding charge is punishable by
imprisonment for up to one year and/or a fine of $100-$2000. CODY

PREVENTION MONTH
ESSENTIALS FOR CHILDHOOD
The CDC’s National Center for Injury Prevention and Control defines three critical
qualities of relationships and environments
that can reduce the occurrence and negative
effects of child maltreatment and other ACEs
(CDC, 2019):
1. Safety: The extent to which a child is free
from fear and secure from physical or psychological harm within his or her social and
physical environment
2. Stability: The degree of predictability and
consistency in a child’s social, emotional, and physical environment
3. Nurturing: The extent to which children’s physical, emotional, and developmental needs are sensitively and consistently met
CDC’s Essentials for Childhood focuses on four goals that are critical for creating
the context for safe, stable, nurturing relationships and environments:
Goal 1: Raise awareness and commitment to promote safe, stable, nurturing
relationships and environments for all children
Goal 2: Use data to inform actions
Goal 3: Create the context for healthy children and families by changing norms
and programs Goal 4: Create the context for healthy children and families through
policies
While each individual goal is important, meeting the four goals together is more
likely to build a comprehensive foundation of safe, stable, and nurturing relationships and environments for children. CDC has funded seven State health departments to implement the four goals.
For additional information on Essentials for Childhood, refer to the following:
Essentials for Childhood: Creating Safe, Stable, Nurturing Relationships and
Environments

Programmatic Activities

Environments” [special issue of International Journal on Child Maltreatment: Research, Policy and Practice]

UNIMAGINABLE
CRUELTY
A plethora of brutal charges have been levied
against a Soper man who allegedly attacked a
women last month that was simply visiting a friend
in town.
Gannon Cyler Clark, 22, was charged February
22 with rape first degree, two counts of rape by instrumentation, sodomy, kidnapping, and assault and battery by means or force as is likely to produce death, in
Choctaw County District Court.
According to Choctaw County Sheriff Terry Park, a young lady from Texas was
visiting a friend of hers in Soper when, at some point during her visit, Clark brutally attacked her.
Assistant District Attorney Tom Sawyer approved the charges against Clark
and Clark was arrested at his place of work in Hugo.
Bond for Clark was lowered to $100,000 from $500,000 at his bond hearing on
March 7, but he was ordered to wear an ankle monitor and is on house arrest,
according to court records. He not allowed to go anywhere except to attend court
hearings, work, doctor’s appointments, or church. He is to have no contact with
the victim or her family and is forbidden to use alcohol or drugs. His preliminary
hearing conference is set for March 28 at 9:30 a.m.
