DOWN ON MAIN STREET
Broken Bow man James Dalton Horne, 18, was
locked up for obstruction and allegedly assaulting an
officer on October 31.
According to the police report, a Broken Bow officer was dispatched to 8th and Main Street at approximately 4:40 p.m. due to a fight between two men.
When he arrived, he was advised one of the men,
identified as Horne, had taken off walking in the alley
between Main and Broadway.
The officer saw Horne walking east on Ninth Street.
When he asked the man to stop, Horne refused.
The officer informed him he would be arrested for
obstruction if he didn’t stop, but Horne said he didn’t
have to.
When the officer stopped his vehicle and stepped out of the patrol car,
Horne took off running. Officers caught up to the man and after a brief struggle, placed him in handcuffs.
One officer tried to search Horne for weapons, but the man continued to
refuse to follow instructions. He also spit blood and saliva into the officer’s
face. Horne then called the officer some colorful words, and said the officer
had no right to arrest him.
The officers drove back to the scene of the altercation where they were
informed that Horne had been the one causing all the trouble. While officers
were speaking to people who were present during the argument, Horne started banging his head on the window, trying to break the glass. He continued
to kick and spit at officers while they conducted their investigation.
A woman at the scene said she had told Horne to leave the residence
because he was causing people to fight. No one at the residence, including
Horne, admitting to knowing how the man ended up with a busted lip.
Horne continued to be verbally and physically combative toward officers
until he was booked into jail.
Horne is being charged with battery/assault and battery on police officer
and obstructing an officer. His bond was set at $50,000, and he is scheduled
to appear in court on November 16, 2017.

Q: My friend or loved one is afraid of being forced to stop using
drugs and what will happen. Do treatment centers force people to stop
taking drugs immediately?
A: People of all ages with substance use disorders live in fear of what will
happen if their drugs are taken away. You can ensure the person you care
about that professional treatment centers will keep him or her safe and as
comfortable as possible if a detoxification process is needed.
Treatment is always individualized based on the person’s needs. However, if
someone is using a drug upon admission to a treatment program, one of the
first things needed is to help safely remove the drugs from his or her system
(often referred to as “detox”). This is important, because drugs impair the
mental abilities needed to engage with and stay in treatment.
When patients first stop using drugs, they can experience a variety of
physical and emotional withdrawal symptoms, including depression, anxiety,
and other mood disorders; restlessness, and sleeplessness. Remind your
loved one that treatment centers are very experienced in helping patients get
through this process and keeping them safe during it. Depending on your
loved one’s situation, there may also be medications to reduce these symptoms, which make it easier to stop using.
Your family, friends and neighbors are all counting on you. If you own a fi rearm
and are not using it, please be responsible and be sure that it’s stored in a safe place.
Visit ncpc.org to determine the best fi rearms safety solution for you.

Authorities say an Indiana man who robbed a gas station made off with food, drinks,
and cigarettes. What he didn’t steal was gas, the AP notes. The Northwest Indiana
Times reports that a state trooper arrested 33-year-old Sean Harris after finding him
stranded by the side of a two-lane highway with his vehicle out of fuel. Police say the
South Bend-area man’s blood alcohol level was above the legal limit. Authorities say
Harris was arrested not long after he entered the LaCrosse gas station, implied he had
a gun, and took the items. Records show Harris is being held in LaPorte County Jail.
He made a preliminary appearance Friday in LaPorte County Circuit Court on a felony
robbery charge.
An 18-year-old Australian teen who escaped a Sydney police station holding cell
was recaptured by cops after she reached out to a TV station to ask them to use a
more flattering photo of her. Amy Sharp had fled the Surry Hills Corrective Services
Comples and was last spotted running down a street near the police station, according to 7 News Sydney. She was considered to be a “low risk” to the community and
had been arrested for “property offenses.” The station wrote in a media advisory about
her escape, along with mug shots Sharp apparently disapproved of. She appeared
glum looking and had a pink blanket flung around her shoulders in the police photos.
The first commenter to the story posted to the TV station’s Facebook page was none
other than Sharp herself who suggested an alternative photo of her.
“Can you use this photo, please and thank you,” Sharp wrote on the TV station’s
Facebook page along with a more polished picture of herself. “Yours Truly, Amy Sharp
xx.”
Cops were able to re-arrest Sharp in Sydney’s Wentworth Park, not far from where
she escaped, Sydney Morning Herald reported.
An Arkansas woman was arrested on drug charges after police found three syringes, among other contraband, hidden inside her vagina. Bentonville police stopped
Tracy McCoy at around 9 P.M. after receiving reports of a reckless driver, according to
a probable-cause affidavit. McCoy failed several field sobriety tests, but told police that
this was due to her prescription medications — and insisted that she had not been
drinking. She was transported to the Benton County Jail, where deputies got a shock
when they initially found two syringes and a folded $20 bill containing a white pill inside
her vagina. After McCoy said she was unable to produce a urine sample, deputies
found a third syringe inside of her, according to the affidavit.
McCoy reportedly admitted to police that she used the syringes to “shoot up” Dilaudid. She faces felony charges of possession of a controlled substance, furnishing
prohibited articles to a corrections facility, and second-degree forgery in addition to
misdemeanor drunk-driving charges.
A high school teacher in Bullhead City, Arizona smoked marijuana with students,
and sent nude photos and sexually explicit texts to one of them, police allege. Joseph
James Pagel, 33, a math teacher at Mohave High School, was arrested by Bullhead
City Police after an investigation that began earlier. A female student had come forward with explicitly sexual texts allegedly sent by Pagel, according to ABC15.com.
The text messages include a request to perform oral sex. Pagel also allegedly sent
two nude photos via text. Police said Pagel also received a partially nude photo of the
student, according to the Havasu News. Detectives interviewed several students and
said there was evidence the suspect had gotten high with students in his home. On
multiple occasions Pagel allegedly gave students pills that were believed to be Percocet while on school grounds, AZCentral reports. Pagel is facing charges of attempted
sexual conduct with a minor, furnishing harmful items to minors, electronic furnishing
of harmful items to minors, luring a minor and transfer of marijuana, according to Fox
5 Las Vegas. Pagel is currently on administrative pending resolution of the charges.

NOT ENOUGH METH TO GO AROUND
A Mead man was arrested after he allegedly
assaulted two women and drove while under
the influence of drugs on October 22.
According to the police report, a Bryan
County deputy was dispatched to the area of
Newberry Creek Road off Highway 70 around
3:39 p.m. to investigate a possible domestic
in progress involving 31-year-old Johnathan
Spencer Olive. When he arrived, he was met by
two women standing on the side of the road.
The deputy saw Olive pull into a driveway north
of the women and exit the driver’s seat of a
green truck.
Olive was screaming and had something black in his hand. The object
was determined to be a cellphone.
The women told the deputy they went to Olive’s residence to ask for
a ride into town. One of the women said when they walked up to Olive’s
residence, he walked outside screaming at them. The other woman told
the deputy she and Olive “smoked a bowl,” but Olive became angry at her
because she didn’t have enough meth. He allegedly told her that he was
going to kill her, and punched and spit in her face.
Both women said the man started swinging a machete around and telling them to leave. The women left the residence, but Olive chased them
down in his truck and tried to run them over.
Olive told the deputy nothing happened, and he only offered to give the
women a ride into town. He admitted to driving up and down the road
while the women were walking. He said he was trying to get them to get
into the truck.
While they were speaking, the deputy noticed Olive had slurred speech
and was swaying back and forth. A series of sobriety tests revealed the
man was most likely under the influence of something.
The deputy placed him under arrest and transported him to jail.
Olive is being charged with two counts of assault with a dangerous
weapon after former conviction of a felony and driving a motor vehicle
while under the influence of drugs. His bond was set at $21,500, and he is
scheduled to appear in court on November 22, 2017.

THE DOO DOO DID HIM IN
Rodney Mark Hendrix, 49, is accused of
burglarizing a Denver pre-school and church
in August 2014 and was caught due to a
DNA test of a pair of poopy shorts left in a
bathroom at the crime scene.
A pre-school employee noticed the crapstained clothes and put them in a plastic bag
before the police arrived, according to the arrest affidavit.
The responding officer took the contaminated shorts into evidence, but it took over
13 months for them to worm their way
through the forensic labs, according to Lynn
Kimbrough, a spokesperson for the Denver
District Attorney.
“In Colorado, a DNA sample is taken for anyone who is arrested for a felony,” Kimbrough told HuffPost. “So when they ran the unknown sample, his
DNA was already in the system.”Kimbrough didn’t want to venture a guess as
to what the poopy shorts smelled like after more than a year.
Hendrix is accused of stealing two guitars from the church and numerous
electronic items from the school, with a combined total value of $4,072.
He was charged with two counts of burglary, two counts of theft, and
one count of identity theft, according to the arrest affidavit.
The suspect was already in custody in the Colorado Department of Corrections on unrelated theft and drug cases when the s*** hit the fan, according
to the Denver Post.
