32-year-old Matthew Wayne Vanhorn was
locked up after police found him trying to drill
into some soda machines located in front of
an Idabel grocery store on May 18.
The Broken Bow man told officers that he
knew better.
According to the affidavit, an Idabel officer
performed a business check of the store in the
300 block of SE Washington at approximately
1:40 a.m. When he turned into the parking lot,
two men standing near the vending machines
in front of the store took off running.
One of the suspects got away; Vanhorn
wasn’t so lucky. The suspect was dressed in
dark clothing with a hood pulled over his head.
He was also wearing gloves.
The officer searched the man and found 6 drill bits in one pocket and 4 picking tools in another.
After checking out the scene, the officer also noticed that the locks on the
machines looked like someone had tried to drill into them. He found a power
drill near the machines. It was wrapped up in tape and fabric in an attempt to
conceal the lighting elements of the drill. The drill bit on the drill fit perfectly into
the holes on the soda machines, and the drill bits found in Vanhorn’s pocket
matched the drill bit that was in the drill.
He informed Vanhorn he was under arrest for trying to break into the machines.
Vanhorn admitted he messed up -- he said he knew better than to do that
stuff.
Vanhorn is being charged with two counts of burglary in the second degree
and possession of burglary tools. His bond was set at $25,000, and he is
scheduled to appear in court on June 30, 2016.
You know better than that!

For a trio of drug thieves, it was their lucky day. They broke into a home in
Silver Springs, Florida, and discovered three jars of cocaine. They took it home
and snorted the contents. That’s when they discovered that the jars were in
fact urns, and that they were snorting the cremains of the victim’s husband
and two dogs.
When an attempted robbery at a Lowes Home Improvement store went
awry, Milton J. Hodges fled across the street and jumped a fence … right into
the Cypress Cove Nudist Resort & Spa. As the Orlando Sentinel pointed out,
“As one of the only folks wearing clothing,” Hodges was easily spotted by
police.
It’s the worst possible time to faint—in the middle of robbing a bank. But
that’s what happened to a Beavercreek, Ohio, thief. The teller called 911 and
asked for medics. But you have to applaud the man’s stick-to-it-iveness. While
the ambulance was en route, the suspect handed a note to the teller demanding all her cash.
The victim’s jewelry was missing, the electronics were gone, and a window
was smashed. No wonder she was hysterical when officer Charanjit Meharu of
the Calgary police arrived. Then her French-speaking father called. Speaking
in French, she explained that it was all a scam in order to get the insurance
money. What she didn’t suspect was that Officer Meharu speaks six languages, including French.
A 12-year-old boy adamantly denied having stolen an iPhone when questioned by police at his home. And then the iPhone rang in his closet. Okay, yes,
he stole that. But as for the Blackberry he was also accused of stealing, he
double-adamantly denied… *RING!!*
Don’t you hate it when you suffer a heart attack and think you’re going to die,
so you confess to a 17-year-old murder, only to find out you’re not going to
die and then get sentenced to life in prison as a result? Yeah, so does James
Washington, of Nashville, because it happened to him.
Following a dispute, Craig Aylesworth, of Bithlo, Florida, allegedly tossed a
Molotov Cocktail at his neighbor’s trailer home … just as the winds shifted,
sending embers on to his own trailer. Luckily, he was arrested, since he no
longer had a home of his own to return to.
A San Francisco thief pedaled his bike up to a woman on the sidewalk,
snatched the iPhone out of her hands, and rode away. Unknown to him, the
woman was in the middle of demonstrating the iPhone’s new GPS tracking
device, which worked—the thief was captured minutes later.
Anthony Kenneth Mastrogiovanni was impersonating a police officer when
he pulled over another car for speeding. The driver quickly sussed out that
Mastrogiovanni was fibbing since he, too, was a cop, but in his case, the kind
of cop who doesn’t have to pretend he’s a cop because he really is a cop.
Mastrogiovanni was arrested for impersonating a police officer.
How convenient! Only a few months earlier, an Iowa City, Iowa, man had his
driver’s license stolen. Then who should show up at the bar where he worked
as a bouncer, but the thief brandishing the bouncer’s very own license as his
form of ID.
Is there no honor among thieves? While two suspects were being questioned by Ogden, Utah, police about shoplifting from a store, someone broke
into their car and stole a stereo and several other items.
An El Paso, Texas, man busted into a church and absconded with the safe.
Safes are heavy, so he only got a few yards before dropping it on a neighbor’s
lawn, where he tried to crack it open. That’s when he was confronted by the
home’s occupant—a police officer.

A Southbend, Indiana, woman was arrested
in Atoka County on June 4 after she allegedly
shot at a neighbor’s dogs and threatened to kill
the animals.
According to the police report, an Atoka County deputy was dispatched to the 1600 block of
East Farris Cemetery Road to investigate the
shooting. When he arrived, a woman told him
she was inside her home when she heard some
gunshots that sounded like they were close to
her house.
One of her dogs came running inside; the other dog froze in fear in the yard.
The woman walked outside and saw 72-year-old Christina B. Wolf holding
a pistol.
She asked Wolf if she had fired the shots.
Wolf replied, “You damn right I did.”
The victim told her to stop, because there were kids in the house. She told
her to never point the gun at her home again.
Wolf lifted up the firearm and replied, “I sure the f--- will, and shoot these
dogs.”
The victim said she ran inside and called the police.
When officers detained the woman and put her in the patrol car, she smiled
and flipped off the victim and her kids.
The deputy spoke to the suspect, who said she was getting some things
from her car when the dog approached her and started growling. She tried to
“shoo” it away, but it just kept barking at her.
Wolf said she thought she could scare it away by shooting her pistol. She
said the gunshot didn’t scare the canine at all.
Right after Wolf fired the gun, the dog’s owner came out of her house and
started screaming at her. She insisted she never pointed the gun at any of the
dogs or the owner.
Police found two fresh bullet holes in the east side of the victim’s house,
facing the suspect’s home.
Wolf is being charged with feloniously pointing firearm and felony discharging firearm into dwelling. His bond was set at $15,000, and he is scheduled to
appear in court on June 15, 2016.

A Broken Arrow man didn’t take too kindly to
his ex-girlfriend breaking up with him. In retaliation, he allegedly trashed her Antlers apartment
and stole some stuff on May 19.
According to the affidavit, an Antlers officer
was dispatched to the 900 block of Stamper
Drive at approximately 8:41 p.m. to meet with
the victim. She showed him her apartment --
multiple items were broken, paint was torn from
the walls, someone had written on the walls
with permanent marker, and there was blood
smeared on every wall.
The victim said she left her apartment around
8 a.m. When she returned shortly after 5 p.m.,
her TV and other items were missing. She suspected her ex-boyfriend, 44-year-old Joseph
Scott Storie, was the culprit, so she went to his mom’s place to get her stuff.
Storie called her and told her he was going to “trash” her place.
When she returned to the apartment with Storie’s mom in tow, the place had
definitely been trashed.
When the officer returned to the sheriff’s office, he was advised that Storie
was back at the victim’s residence. Officers caught the man at SW C and West
Main.
When an officer approached the man, Storie said, “I’m the guy you’re looking for, boss. I did it. It was all me.”
Storie had dried blood on his leg and cuts on his hand.
The officer asked him if he was responsible for stealing from his ex-girlfriend
and trashing her apartment. Storie replied, “Yes, it was me and she deserved
every bit of it.”
He told officers the stolen property was at his sister’s home.
The vengeful ex was placed under arrest and transported to jail.
Storie is being charged with burglary in the second degree, grand larceny in
a dwelling house and malicious destruction or property of another. He is being
held without bond and is scheduled to appear in court on June 15, 2016.

OHP Uses New Device To Seize
Money During Traffic Stops
You may have heard of civil asset forfeiture.
That’s where police can seize your property
and cash without first proving you committed a
crime; without a warrant and without arresting
you, as long as they suspect that your property is somehow tied to a crime.
Now, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol has a device that also allows them to seize
money in your bank account or on prepaid cards.
It’s called an ERAD, or Electronic Recovery and Access to Data machine, and state
police began using 16 of them last month.
Here’s how it works. If a trooper suspects you may have money tied to some type of
crime, the highway patrol can scan any cards you have and seize the money.
“We’re gonna look for different factors in the way that you’re acting,” Oklahoma
Highway Patrol Lt. John Vincent said. “We’re gonna look for if there’s a difference in
your story. If there’s someway that we can prove that you’re falsifying information to
us about your business.”
Troopers insist this isn’t just about seizing cash.
“I know that a lot of people are just going to focus on the seizing money. That’s a
very small thing that’ s happening now. The largest part that we have found ... the
biggest benefit has been the identity theft,” Vincent said.
“If you can prove that you have a legitimate reason to have that money it will be
given back to you. And we’ve done that in the past,” Vincent said about any money
seized.
State Sen. Kyle Loveless, R-Oklahoma City, said that removes due process and the
belief that a suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty. He said we’ve already
seen cases in Oklahoma where police are abusing the system.
“We’ve seen single mom’s stuff be taken, a cancer survivor his drugs taken, we saw
a Christian band being taken. We’ve seen innocent people’s stuff being taken. We’ve
seen where the money goes and how it’s been misspent,” Loveless said.
Loveless plans to introduce legislation next session that would require a conviction
before any assets could be seized.
“If I had to err on the side of one side versus the other, I would err on the side of the
Constitution,” Loveless said. “And I think that’s what we need to do.”
News 9 obtained a copy of the contract with the state.
It shows the state is paying ERAD Group Inc., $5,000 for the software and scanners, then 7.7 percent of all the cash the highway patrol seizes.
News9.com
Eddie G: This is a a travesty of justice. OHP, because it can now that the technology is available, is asserting its ability to be judge and jury. The legislature needs to put
a stop to this, and whoever the turd(s) is/are who came up it with need to be removed
from their positions even if the law has to be changed to do it. That is ex post facto
you say? I say, too bad assholes. Prove it in a court of law.
Jason L: Today in America you are guilty until proven otherwise, but you are always suspect.
Aaron W: Complete overreach of power. How many candidates running for election in November promise smaller government? Things like this prove that the promises are false statements made to purely get them elected. Looks to me like the “we
the people” are being forced to fear our government...again.
Michael M: So I am against this, however this isn’t the entire story. It’s nice to
see news9 taking a crack at the sensational telling of stories without all of the details
much like the national media.
First, this will be handled like all other property seizures in the state, it must be in
connection to a crime. The asset is seized and effectively placed into evidence.
Second their is a court date I do not remember the amount of time but it is a set
time between the date of seizure and the court date. In the event the court date cannot be held within the allotted time. The asset is returned, in the event a court date is
obtained prior to the court date, the officer must submit a seizure for the the countys
district attorney, the DA must sign off on it prior to the court date the DA Then goes
before the Judge and PROVES that the asset is a benefit the person received from an
illicit activity. If they cannot the asset is returned to the person.
Now all that said, yes there it’s a huge chance for abuse, however the only people
who have either limited our complete immunity is in this situation is the DA and the
judge. The officer who seizes the asset is still liable for any wrong doing and is subject
to civil and criminal ligation in the event of abuse. If that’s not motivation to behave I
don’t know what is. All this is intended to do is “catch” police up to trends in crime.
It is handled the same way any property seizures in the state is handled, a house or
vehicle.
Jamie D: The issue is if money and property are returned and found innocent, the
victim will still incure court costs, missed work, expenses..etc ( all cost money)
Jerry P: Im not sure this is true, but its not a new law, if you are in position of money or property that was used in illegal activity they could always sieze it. With modern
technology people can buy drugs with prepaid cards or even bank cards. If its found
out the money was not involved in illegal activity it will be returned, not a new law at all
Leona U: Due process, have we forgotten this? Innocent until proven guilty. I can
completely understand seizing everything in a felonious act. Apart from that, it’s none
of your business where my money comes from. You certainly don’t have the right to
seize it. When did OHP become judge and jury? This is completely insane.
Amy J: I can picture a drug bust where pounds of Marijuana are seized, as well
as cash. Is this supposed to make that possible if its in a vehicle? Because I’m having
trouble understanding how an officer would just take money from a single mom as if
she were simply driving down the road, and he decided to be a bully. Maybe i don’t
feel threatened because I’m broke haha. I absolutely disagree with the idea of seizure,
except in extreme situations where theft or distribution are obvious, in which case the
items should be entered as evidence, and only after conviction should the money be
used for anything
Jason E: Criminals are not going to have bank accounts anyway. This only harnesses the people and creates more fear and hatred. The money in question that is
used by law abiding citizens is used to pay for our daily lives. When it is taken like this,
utilities and late payment accrue and those don’t get reimbursed by their “mistake.”
Winnie B: If it isn’t just about seizing other people’s cash, then do the job w/o
grabbing any. Currently it’s highway robbery, by badges protected by the laws. A
perfect RICO case.
Patsy T: Oklahoma is reaching as far as they can for $$. This needs to be challenged in court. I get paid on a card I don’t carry my check stubs with me to validate
where funds come from. The gift card thing is unreal.
Braylen R: I love the state taking our belongings without due process. Their reach
doesn’t go far enough if you ask me. We should all be willing to hand over whatever
the state wants, and thank them for their hard work.
Bryan W: The company gets a 7.7% commission rate on all assets money siezed.
So what happens when the money is legitimate like the christian band or somebody
who just took out money to get a new car? I wrote to state legislators with absolutely
no response from them concerning this law asking for just the statistics on its enforcement.
Randy H: I support the men and women in blue in a lot of things....but this is just
wrong....and for ERAD to get 7.7 percent of what the troopers can get ?
Michael W: Oklahoma must be broke way to go Fallin the failer, I’m sure we could
sue if they did take money wrongfully it’s only right I sell my booty for my hard earned
money can’t take that away from me fools.
Charles C: Caught now x wife in bed with police officer. Police came over asked
for my debit card for additional I’d and BAM!!! Next day all was empty. Said I can
rebuttal. Lawyer is more expensive than what was in the account. I’m a ret Air Force
guy. There are a lot of good police officers and about 15% that are shady. I’m speaking the gospel. Nothing you can do once they run that card.
Earl E: Welcome to the Oklahoma Police State. Wrong, wrong and wrong. I’m
sure the budget cuts affected them, so they brought this in to re-fill their coffers. Its
hard to break the law when you are the law (not)
Brandon L: The way Lt. John Vincent can’t even form a coherent sentence would
make me very suspicious like his story ain’t adding up and maybe the cards in wallet
need a little scanny poo!
Teresa P: Its awful they have seized even elderly people’s money and when it was
finally given back they still kept a lot of it. That was Florida. Should not be able to do
this. Its this kind of thing that makes ppl hate police agencies. Stick to upholding the
law not breaking it.
Tadpole S: If they are going to sieze money from any source that needs to be
done by either state investigation or federal investigation ie OSBI or FBI not the OHP.
Edward C: It’ s going to get cops/patrolmen hurt and or killed. If not at first, afterwards. And those who legislated this horrid piece of work should be at the TOP of the
eradication lists. It doesn’t matter how bad the I-35 corridor is, government CANNOT
consitutionally take property, period....especially on a whim,. And don;t bother me
with “the law says”....the Constitutions DOES NOT.
What’s your opinion on this?

Tupelo woman Laura Danielle Roebuck,
32, allegedly stole a neighbor’s truck when
an officer approached for acting weird on
May 22.
According to the police report, the Tupelo
officer was dispatched to First and Pine
shortly after 10 a.m. because Roebuck was
throwing glass around the front of her home.
When he arrived, he found her moving “hysterically” in a vacant lot located diagonally
to her home. When she saw the officer, she
took off running toward Main Street.
The officer told the woman to stop running, but she just kept on going. Roebuck
seemed pretty intent on getting away. She
ran up to a house and jumped into a truck
parked out front. The keys just happened to be in the ignition.
Roebuck locked the doors and rolled up the windows, despite the deputy
telling her to stop. She then reversed the truck, nearly taking out some vehicles and a patrol car, and headed westbound on Main.
At approximately 10:41 a.m., an officer successfully stopped the woman
three miles south of the Tupelo city limits on Highway 48 near CR 1700. She
was placed under arrest and transported to jail.
The owner of the truck wasn’t very happy that Roebuck took his truck. He
told police he wanted to press charges against her.
Roebuck is being charged with unauthorized use of vehicle and attempting
to elude a police officer. His bond was set at $22,000, and he is scheduled to
appear in court on June 23, 2016.

Cartwright man James Randell Wells Jr.,
84, was locked up on June 4 after he said he
was shooting at Muslims who were bothering him.
The victims weren’t Muslims -- they were
just people traveling down the road in front
of his house.
According to the affidavit, a Bryan County
deputy was dispatched to the man’s home
in the 500 block of Boat Club Road shortly
after 8 p.m. When he arrived, another officer
was already on scene.
The officer was pointing a gun at a man
who had his hands in the air. The deputy ran
to the suspect and placed him in handcuffs.
He recognized the man as Wells from previous dealings.
Wells wasn’t too happy about being arrested. He asked the deputy why he
was going to jail -- he said he was just shooting at the “f------ Muslims” who
were harassing him and trying to take his land.
Witnesses told police they saw Wells standing near the edge of the property holding a rifle. One man said Wells pointed the gun at him and fired a
round.
Another woman said she and her husband were riding a motorcycle down
the road when Wells stepped outside and shot the gun at them.
The deputy placed the suspect under arrest and transported him to jail.
Wells is being charged with two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. He was released on a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to
appear in court on July 13, 2016.

Summer is here
and many children
are now home
alone with Internetcapable devices.
The Oklahoma
Internet Crimes
Against Children
Task Force wants
parents to exercise
caution when allowing children to use
those devices.
In 2015, nearly 1,000 instances of child sexual exploitation were reported to the OSBI
through the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children’s Cybertipline,
with each case involving the use of computers, apps, chats, or social media.
Parents are urged to consider the following tips:
• Monitor your child’s usage of electronic devices such as cell phones,
tablets, readers, web cams, and laptops, as well as their usage of apps,
games, and social media accounts. Do not allow this usage to be private.
Instead, children should use these in open areas of the home, such as the
living room or kitchen.
• Although strangers are a threat, oftentimes children are exploited by
people they know. A large number of child pornography images are taken
by the children themselves and sent to others they know or think they know.
• Utilize device and software parental controls, as well as safety features
available for your children’s devices and apps. Parents are also encouraged
to communicate openly about online activity with their children.
Young people should be able to identify risky behavior and know what to
do if something bad happens. It is important parents and guardians remain
approachable about this topic – kids should never fear a parent’s reaction
more than they fear the misbehavior and/or consequences of people online.
Ask your child:
• Where do you spend most of your time online?
• What is your favorite app or video game right now?
• Who do you game or communicate with the most?
• How do you decide who gets to follow or friend you?
• What do you share, post, download, upload, and view?
• Can I review your profile with you?
• What would you do if you encounter behavior or communication that
makes you uncomfortable?
If your child is the victim of sexual misconduct online or you observe this
type of behavior, immediately report the incident to www.cybertipline.com,
the OSBI, or local law enforcement.

Hugo woman Teprika Yuna Branton, allegedly shot a man inside their home on May
21.
Well, that’s what the victim said anyways
-- she denied everything.
According to the affidavit, a Hugo officer
was dispatched to the couple’s home in
the 1000 block of E. Medlock shortly after
2 a.m. Before the victim was airlifted to a
Plano hospital for his injuries, he told police
that Branton shot him, then ran to a back
room in the residence.
The officer approached the suspect and
asked her if she lived at the house with the
victim. She told him that she was just staying at the home, and it actually belonged to
her aunt who lived in Dallas.
This didn’t match what the victim said -- he told police they had been living
there together for more than a week.
The officer told Branton he needed to attempt to collect any gunshot residue from her hands. She seemed upset, but agreed to the collection. She told
the officer there might be some residue on her hands, because earlier that
day, she went to the country and shot some guns.
He asked her how long ago that was, but she couldn’t give him an answer.
The officer asked Branton who shot the victim. All she would say is that it
wasn’t her.
The officer placed her under arrest and transported her to jail.
Branton is being charged with assault and battery with a deadly weapon
and possession of firearm after former felony conviction. His bond was set at
$45,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on June 28, 2016.
Stand by your man
When crimes happen in particular locations,
specific emergency response systems can be especially helpful. And this is precisely what led to the
development of the Code Adam Program. On July
27, 1981, 6-year-old Adam Walsh was abducted
from a Sears department store in Florida. His decapitated head was found 16 days later. Named
in his honor, the Code Adam Program helps ensure that children are recovered safely and quickly
if they are lost in stores by having employees announce “Code Adam” warnings
along with the child’s description over their intercom systems to alert patrons to
be on the lookout for lost children. First implemented by Wal-Mart in the 1990s,
today, hundreds of retail chains participate in the Code Adam Program and
as of 2003, “The Code Adam Act” requires that all federal facilities participate.
Adam’s father, John Walsh, who helped pass these laws, continues to be an
outspoken advocate for missing children.
