BURGLARY - 2ND DEGREE
Two Broken Bow men were arrested Feb. 28 after their cracked windshield led police to discovering they had weed and meth in their truck.
According to the police report, a Broken Bow police officer was patrolling South Park Drive when he noticed a black truck with a severely
cracked windshield. He conducted a traffic stop and made contact with
the driver, identified as Kenneth Marvin Bray, 42. He asked Bray for a
driver’s license and the passenger, later identified as Michael Ray Musgrove, 42, for identification.
Bray handed the officer an identification card. The officer ran both
names through dispatch and was advised that Musgrove had a warrant
for his arrest in McCurtain County.
The officer asked Musgrove to step out of the vehicle; he placed him
under arrest and conducted a search of his person. Musgrove advised
that he had a gun. The officer retrieved the firearm and placed Musgrove in his patrol vehicle.
The officer then spoke to Bray and told him that he did not have a valid driver’s license. The officer wrote him a citation and explained that
the vehicle was unsafe to be driven on the road and since Bray wasn’t a
valid driver, he would be impounding the vehicle.
The officer asked Bray to step out of the vehicle and as he did, the officer saw a small bag
with a green leafy substance fall to the floor. The officer conducted an inventory of the truck
and found several empty baggies and two clear bags with a white powder residue in the center console.
Police escorted the men to jail. While searching Musgrove, an officer located a glass pipe
with a white powder residue that field-tested positive for meth.
Musgrove is being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and carrying a concealed weapon. His bond was set at
$5,000.
Bray is being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession
of a controlled dangerous substance after former conviction of a felony. His bond was set at
$25,000.
Both men are scheduled to appear in court on April 1, 2014.

Pruitt Convenes Oklahoma’s First
Human Trafficking Task Force
Oklahoma Attorney General
Scott Pruitt convened the state’s
first law enforcement task force to
combat human trafficking in Oklahoma.
The Human Trafficking Intelligence Working Group provides
a forum for local, state and federal law enforcement officers to share
information and collaborate in the investigation and prosecution of human traffickers.
“What citizens want to see is action. They want to see us work together
to do something about a very pervasive issue,” General Pruitt said. “The
reality is human trafficking isn’t just a problem in foreign lands; it’s a
real and dangerous threat in Oklahoma. I appreciate the agencies who
have committed to being a part of the working group and thank them for
their efforts to investigate and prosecute those who would deprive others of their freedom. By working together, we can set a great example for
other law enforcement groups across the nation, and help combat this
despicable crime.”
The task force includes more than 30 law enforcement agencies, including the AG’s Office, the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Control, the FBI, Oklahoma City Police, Tulsa Police, the
Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation,
Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office, tribal law enforcement and the U.S. Attorneys Office.
General Pruitt assembled the group after discussions with officers
around the state and through consultation with the AG’s Multicounty
Grand Jury Unit.
“We’re here to determine, ‘What’s the problem, how do we attack it
and what’s our approach.’ We are going to use everything we can to combat this. It’s too important not to,” OBN Director Darrell Weaver said.
Human trafficking involves sex trafficking and labor trafficking. It is
estimated that more than 14,000 people are victims of human trafficking
in the United States each year.
If you are a victim of human trafficking or know of someone who may
be a victim, call the Safeline at 1-800-522-SAFE (7233).

Heroin and Happy meals
A woman charged with selling heroin hidden in
Happy Meals when she worked for a Pittsburgh,
PA., McDonalds is “emotionally crushed” by the
charges.
But defense attorney David Shrager stopped
short of denying the charges against 26-yearold Shantia Dennis, of East Pittsburgh.
Dennis’ preliminary hearing was reset for
April 9 so Allegheny County prosecutors can
get back crime lab tests on the alleged drugs
involved.
Dennis was arrested Jan. 29 after police say
they caught her selling 10 doses of heroin hidden
inside a Happy Meal to a confidential informant.
Investigators said they also recovered more
heroin from Dennis.
Authorities say Dennis would sell the drugs to drive-thru customers who
uttered the code words, “I’d like to order a toy.”

because he made the choice to drink.
Ashley P: What kinda drugs is he on?
No remorse. Even a smile. Mentally ill or

Police said they have one man behind bars after they found
a man dead in the street, beaten with a baseball bat and a
skateboard.
Tulsa police arrested 28-year-old Pedro Castro after they
said he left his brother-in-law dead in the driveway.
Authorities said they believe Castro murdered 34-year-old
Juan Mendoza with a skateboard, baseball bat and possibly
a knife.
Tulsa authorities said they arrested Castro about 10 minutes after they arrived when they found him ridding the same skateboard allegedly used in the fight.
Police said the altercation started as an argument between Castro and his
sister.
Officers said he stabbed her in the stomach and hand.
Alcohol may have fueled this altercation; police said Castro was intoxicated.

A McAlester woman was arrested for violent behavior
March 5, but not before she told a deputy that he wasn’t
a real cop.
According to the affidavit, a Pushmataha deputy was
dispatched to an Albion residence in the 700 block of McCurtain Street in reference to a domestic disturbance. He
was directed toward a room where he saw a crying woman
sitting on the bed and a man standing near her.
The woman, Jessica Elaine Fletcher, 26, told him the
man hit her in the face and broke her nose.
The deputy didn’t notice any signs of injury on her face,
and she refused to answer any more of his questions.
The deputy asked her to leave the room.
The man explained that he had told Fletcher to leave the
house two days earlier due to drug use. He said she left, but
returned earlier that day. When he told her to leave, she
began swinging at him, so he grabbed her from behind to take her out of her house, and she
tripped on the corner of the bed and fell face first on the floor.
Witnesses told the deputy he never hit Fletcher.
Fletcher demanded that the deputy arrest the man and told the deputy that he wasn’t a cop
and had no business being there. While speaking with Fletcher, the deputy observed that her
eyes were bloodshot and glassy. He told her to empty her pockets, but she refused. When she
pulled away from the deputy, he noticed a baggie in her hand.
The deputy heard a noise outside, and found that another officer had arrived as backup.
A woman in the house alerted the deputy that Fletcher had locked herself in the bathroom.
The deputies forced that door open and Fletcher jumped up and pulled up her pants. She
yelled that she was peeing, but the toilet seat was down and the bathroom light was off.
They escorted Fletcher out of the house and placed her in a patrol car.
The deputy transported Fletcher to jail, but she wouldn’t comply with commands and police had to physically restrain her. She also kicked a deputy twice during the booking process.
Fletcher is being charged with assault and battery on a police officer, obstructing an officer
and resisting an officer. Her bond was set at $5,000 and she is scheduled to appear in court
on March 26, 2014.

A party lovin’ Tupelo cowboy was arrested on Feb. 23
when police broke up a party in which he had provided
booze for minors.
According to the affidavit, a Coal County deputy and
Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper responded to a residence on Bullard Road off State Highway 48 in reference
to a noise complaint.
As the police arrived at the residence, they activated
their emergency lights. As the lights started flashing, a few
people exited the house and looked outside.
As soon as the revelers saw law enforcement in the
driveway, they swiftly reentered the residence and alerted the others that the cops had arrived to break up their
party.
Several people exited the house and took off running
into the nearby woods, ignoring police commands to stop.
The trooper advised the fugitives over loudspeaker to
return to the residence.
All but one of the runners returned and surrendered to police.
Inside the house, police found several cases of been and three opened bottles of liquor.
Police spoke with the partiers and learned that they were all under the age of 21. They ran
because they had been drinking when law enforcement arrived.
Police also learned that the one person who had refused to come out of the woods was Theodore Jacob Benfer, 23. Benfer allegedly purchased the alcohol for the minors and had been
drinking with them in the residence when police arrived.
The young drinkers described Benfer as wearing a red shirt and cowboy hat.
Despite several attempted to coax Benfer out of the woods, Benfer refused to cooperate
with police. He also ignored calls from other individuals at the house and their pleas to get
him to surrender, but he was eventually taken into custody.
Benfer is being charged with furnishing alcoholic beverages to minors. He was released on
a personal recognizance bond and he is scheduled to appear in court on March 20, 2014.

OK Jailbirds is cooperating with the efforts of Oklahoma Department of Human Services to impact the huge
social problem of irresponsible parents who are not paying the child supports ordered by our courts.
If these biological-only parents won’t honor the courts order, perhaps public shame will get their attention.
If you know how to reach any of the Deadbeat Parents found on this page, please call the Oklahoma Department of Human Services

Importance of Child Support
Children are our future and child support helps make sure they
have a chance at a productive life. Children have the right to get
support from both parents and do not lose this right when a
parent leaves the home.
When children do not receive child support, they can:
Suffer both Emotionally and Physically
Live within a Reduced Standard of Living
Have their Basic Needs Unmet
Become Non-Supportive when they become Parents.
When one or both parents do not support their children,
taxpayers often pay the cost of raising children. When children
receive public assistance and their parents pay no child support,
all taxpayers bear the cost of supporting the children.

A Durant man was arrested after he
was caught biking high through the
streets of Durant with a bag of marijuana.
On Feb. 23, a Durant police officer
saw a man riding a bicycle at S. 11th and
Alabama. According to the affidavit, it
was dark outside and the officer noticed
that the bike didn’t have a headlight or
taillight.
The officer stopped the bike and made
contacted with the rider, Dustin Lee
May, 20.
May told the officer that he had been at a friend’s house, and he was
riding the bike home. May appeared to be very nervous; his hands
and arms were shaking and his voice cracked a few times while he
was speaking to the officer. He was also allegedly unable to stand
still. The officer noticed that May’s eyes were very glassy, his speech
was slightly slurred and he had a green film on his tongue consistent
with smoking marijuana.
The officer asked him how much marijuana he had smoked, and
May replied that he had only smoked a joint at his friend’s house and
he didn’t have any more with him.
The officer asked May for consent to search his person. May admitted that he had a small bag of marijuana in his right pocket, and
pleaded with the officer not to take him to jail if he turned over the
weed.
The officer explained that it didn’t work that way and searched
May, locating the baggie of marijuana in his pocket.
The officer placed May under arrest and transported him to jail.
May advised the officer that this was his first marijuana charge and
that he usually doesn’t carry any marijuana.
May is being charged with possession of marijuana. He was released on a personal recognizance bond and is scheduled to appear
in court on April 17, 2014.

The Bible clearly teaches that
Christians are not to worry.
In Philippians 4:6, we are
commanded, “Do not be anxious
[do not worry] about anything,
but in everything, by prayer
and petition, with thanksgiving,
present your requests to God.” In
this Scripture, we learn that we
should bring all of our needs and
concerns to God in prayer rather
than worry about them. Jesus
encourages us to avoid worrying
about our physical needs like
clothing and food. Jesus assures us
that our heavenly Father will take
care of all our needs (Matthew 6:25-34). Therefore, we have no need
to worry about anything.
Since worrying should not be a part of a believer’s life, how does
one overcome worry? In 1 Peter 5:7, we are instructed to “cast all
your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” God does not want us
to carry around the weight of problems and burdens. In this verse,
God is telling us to give Him all of our worries and concerns. Why
does God want to take on our problems? The Bible says it is because
He cares for us. God is concerned about everything that happens
to us. No worry is too big or too small for His attention. When we
give God our problems, He promises to give us the peace which
transcends all understanding (Philippians 4:7).
Of course, for those who do not know the Savior, worry and
anxiety will be part of life. But to those who have given their lives
to Him, Jesus promised, “Come to me, all you who are weary and
burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn
from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest
for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light” (Matthew
11:28-30).

larceny of merch public drunk larceny of merch public drunk
By Lt. Jeff James
Oklahoma Highway Patrol
Lately I’ve noticed that a lot
of the motoring public is having
trouble properly signaling for, and making turns. I’ve also noticed,
that when people do properly signal and make turns, a lot of others
who are in a hurry, seem to not pay attention to those signals or
turns, resulting in a lot of near-hits and actual accidents...some
with very tragic consequences. Today I’m going to talk about how
to properly signal, prepare for and execute turns on the roadway,
as well some common sense for those drivers who are in too much
of a hurry to slow down for those turning.
First, lets address state law on signaling. Oklahoma State
Statutes Title 47-11-601 and 11-604 outline the requirements for
turning movements and required signals, but the short version is
this. When turning left you must position yourself as close to the
left side of the furthest left lane of travel in your direction, and must
turn to the closest lane to you. Don’t cut the corner! When turning
right, you must position yourself as close to the right hand curb or
edge of the roadway, and also turn to the closest lane to you!
Now that we know the proper positions, lets talk about those
signals. A signal to turn right or left is required to be given
continuously for not less than the last 100 feet traveled by the
vehicle before turning. Furthermore, no person shall stop or
suddenly decrease speed without FIRST giving an appropriate
signal! How many times have you seen a vehicle slow down in
front of you for a long way, and then turn on the blinker just as they
start their turn? How many times have you done it?
Lastly, lets talk about other driver’s requirements after a
vehicle has done everything proper in preparing and signaling
for a turn. The last part of 47-11-604 says that when any person
is properly preparing for, attempting or executing a left turn, no
other person immediately following such vehicle shall pass or
attempt to pass the turning vehicle to the left. Such person shall
come to a complete stop if necessary at a safe distance behind that
person turning. Also, it is unlawful to pass this turning vehicle on
the shoulder to the right as well.
So if you are coming up on a vehicle that is slowing, ask yourself,
why are they slowing or stopping? Is someone in front of them
turning? Is something going on that I would need to reduce speed
for as well? This is what a safe and courteous driver would do, but
all to often, people zip out to pass those slowed vehicles, and end
up having a vehicle turn right in front of them, with disastrous
results! Please, use your blinkers properly, make proper turns,
and don’t be in such a hurry! Thanks for reading, buckle up, and
be safe!

A safety checkpoint was a beerdrinkin’, weed-smokin’ Boswell man’s
undoing when he was caught not wearing a seatbelt and in possession of illegal items.
According to the affidavit, an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper and
Choctaw County deputies were conducting a safety checkpoint on County
Road 4000 on March 1 when a silver
car approached the roadblock from the
north.
The trooper approached the driver’s
side of the vehicle and asked to see the
driver’s license and proof of insurance. As the driver, identified as
John Lee Colescott, 22, told the trooper he didn’t have his license,
the trooper noticed that the driver wasn’t wearing his seat belt. He
could also smell the odor of alcohol and marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.
The trooper asked Colescott if he had consumed any alcohol. Colescott replied that he had drunk four beers.
The trooper then asked Colescott if he had smoked any marijuana.
Colescott admitted to smoking weed earlier that day.
Police conducted a search of Colescott’s vehicle and found a pack
of rolling papers, a nearly full open can of beer and two bags containing a green leafy substance that tested positive for marijuana.
The trooper asked Colescott if he had anything else illegal. Colescott admitted to having two more bags of marijuana in his coat
pocket.
Colescott is being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of paraphernalia, transporting open container, driving with a driver’s license and failure to wear seatbelt. He
was released on a $2,592 bond and is scheduled to appear in court
on March 31, 2014.
