A Broken Bow man, who has an extended criminal
history of violence, theft, and drugs, could be off the
streets for a while after he pleaded guilty to a firearm
charge in federal court.
Logan Lawson Cox, 29, of Broken Bow, entered
a guilty plea to Felon In Possession Of Firearm last
month. The crime is punishable by not more than 10
years and not more than life imprisonment, a fine up
to $250,000, or both.
The Indictment alleged that on or about November
17, 2019, in the Eastern District of Oklahoma, Cox,
having been convicted of a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year, and knowing of said conviction,
did knowingly possess in and affecting commerce, a firearm which had
been shipped and transported in interstate commerce.
The charges arose from an investigation by the McCurtain County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
The Honorable Steven P. Shreder, U.S. Magistrate Judge in the United
States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, in Muskogee,
accepted the plea and ordered the completion of a presentence investigation report.

A Washington state man who led police on a high-speed chase on March
29 may have not actually been driving ― officers said they found the suspect’s pet pit bull behind the wheel after his 1996 Buick crashed, Seattle TV
station KOMO reported.
The unidentified 51-year-old male suspect, from Lakewood, Washington, is
now facing several charges including DUI, reckless driving, hit-and-run and felony eluding, authorities said. The man allegedly struck two vehicles before he
fled on Interstate 5.
One trooper reported seeing the pit bull in the driver’s seat with the owner
handling the steering wheel from the passenger seat. The car reportedly hit
speeds of 109 mph during the chase, and at one point drove on a popular trail
for pedestrians and cyclists (it was fortunately empty).
State troopers eventually ended their pursuit by throwing down spike strips,
but then came the shocker.
Washington State Patrol officer Heather Axtman said the driver told police
that he was “trying to teach his dog how to drive,” according to CNN.
Axtman added: “I wish I could make this up. I’ve been a trooper for almost
12 years and wow, I’ve never heard this excuse. I’ve been in a lot of high speed
chases, I’ve stopped a lot of cars, and never have I gotten an excuse that they
were teaching their dog how to drive.”
The officer said the pit bull―whom she described as a “very sweet girl”―
was taken to a local animal shelter.
Her owner was later released on an $8,500 bond, according to USA Today.
A man has been accused of grabbing a 2 1/2-foot-long (76 centimeters)
sword and chasing after another man who asked him to turn down his music,
police in Manchester, New Hampshire, said.
A man knocked on the door of Benjamin Layland, 47, police said. Layland
reportedly became upset and grabbed the sword. He allegedly chased the man
down a hall, police said. The man got away and there were no injuries.
Layland was charged with criminal threatening.
A Florida man is back in jail for impersonating a law enforcement officer just
days after he was arrested for the exact same charge, sheriff’s officials said.
LeRoy Stotelmyer, 60, was arrested after investigators got a tip from a toll
bridge attendant who showed them video of the man flashing a law enforcement badge twice to avoid paying a $2 toll, the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office
said in a Facebook post.
On-duty officers are allowed to cross free of charge, officials said.
A toll booth attendant told investigators that Stotelmyer flashed the silver
badge at him, and he in turn showed the man an article about his arrest for
impersonating an officer. He said Stotelmyer then put away the badge and paid
the toll.
Sheriff Rick Staly said Stotelmyer was arrested several days before on
charges of impersonating an officer and shoplifting. He was then charged with
felony violation of pre-trial release and impersonating an officer. He was being
held without bond.
“This guy clearly has not learned his lesson and has no respect for the law,”
Sheriff Rick Staly said. “Two days after his release and he is already up to his old
tricks. We know already that he thinks he can get out of shoplifting and paying
tolls with his fake badge.”

national police week
May 10-16, 2020
In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed
a proclamation which designated May 15 as
Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week
in which that date falls as Police Week. Currently, tens of thousands of law enforcement
officers from around the world converge on
Washington, DC to participate in a number of
planned events which honor those that have
paid the ultimate sacrifice.
The Memorial Service began in 1982 as a
gathering in Senate Park of approximately
120 survivors and supporters of law enforcement. Decades later, the event,
more commonly known as National Police Week, has grown to a series of
events which attracts thousands of survivors and law enforcement officers to
our Nation’s Capital each year.
The National Peace Officers Memorial Service, which is sponsored by the
Grand Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police, is one in a series of events
which includes the Candlelight Vigil, which is sponsored by the National Law
Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF) and seminars sponsored by
Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.)
National Police Week draws in between 25,000 to 40,000 attendees. The
attendees come from departments throughout the United States as well as
from agencies throughout the world. This provides a unique opportunity to
meet others who work in law enforcement. In that spirit, the Fraternal Order of
Police DC Lodge #1 sponsors receptions each afternoon and evening during
Police Week. These events are open to all law enforcement personnel and are
an experience unlike any other.
