GOOD RIDDANCE
A McCurtain County man has been sentenced to life
in prison for sexually abusing a child.
Brett Dewayne Cole, 34, of McCurtain County, was
sentenced to life in prison for each of two counts of
Aggravated Sexual Abuse in Indian Country and for
one count of Abusive Sexual Contact in Indian Country. The sentences are to run concurrently.
The charges arose from an investigation by the McCurtain County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Bureau
of Investigation.
On March 7, 2023, Cole was found guilty by a federal
jury. At trial, the United States presented evidence that from January to May of 2019,
Cole sexually assaulted a minor female in his custody and care whom he knew to be under the age of twelve. Two other witnesses testified that Cole also assaulted them when
they were under the age of twelve. The crimes occurred in McCurtain County, within the
boundaries of the Choctaw Nation Reservation, in the Eastern District of Oklahoma.
“Thanks to the bravery of the victims who testified in this case, Mr. Cole will never again
be able to abuse another child, and our community is a much safer place for everyone,”
said Acting Special Agent in Charge Joseph Skarda of the FBI Oklahoma City Field Office. “The three life sentences handed down plainly reflect the gravity of the crimes, along
with the FBI’s commitment to putting child predators behind bars.”
“Mr. Cole’s appalling crimes against children warrant these life sentences,” said United
States Attorney Christopher J. Wilson. “My heart goes out to the brave individuals who
survived Mr. Cole’s assaults, and who summoned the courage necessary to report and
provide witness to his crimes. Together with investigators and prosecutors, they have
ensured that Mr. Cole is no longer at liberty to prey on others.”
Cole will remain in the custody of the U.S. Marshal pending transportation to a designated United States Bureau of Prisons facility to serve a non-paroleable sentence of
incarceration.

We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money
or favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting officer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.
Thank you and God Bless

AROUND THE NATION
A 39-year-old is charged with Aggravated Assault against a Public Servant, following an officer-involved shooting in East Lubbock.
Lubbock Police were called to the 300 block of
East 37th Street at 9:00 a.m. on August 11th for
a report of a domestic disturbance. Initial information conveyed to dispatch indicated Eliseo Padilla
III was armed with a gun and had destroyed property at the residence.
The responding officer arrived on scene at 9:07 a.m. and found Padilla in front
of the house. Padilla, who was verbally combative, ignored multiple instructions
by the officer to place his hands on a nearby vehicle in order for the officer to pat
him down. After giving multiple commands, and with the knowledge Padilla was
armed with a weapon, the officer deployed less lethal force with his department
issued Taser. Despite the deployment of the Taser, Padilla produced a firearm
and began shooting at the responding officer. In response, the officer drew his
duty weapon and returned fire at Padilla at 9:09 a.m.
The responding officer, who suffered no injuries, immediately notified dispatch
shots were fired and requested EMS. Additional officers arrived on scene and
began dispensing life-saving measures in order to treat Padilla. Upon arrival, EMS transported Padilla to University Medical Center via ambulance with
life-threatening injuries.
An investigation is currently underway by the Lubbock Metropolitan Special
Crimes Unit, LPD’s Office of Professional
Standards and LPD’s forensic unit.
The officer who fired at Padilla was
employed by the Lubbock Police Department beginning in January of 2015.
He is currently on routine administrative
leave per department policy.
Padilla, who remains in critical condition at UMC, was served a warrant for
Aggravated Assault against a Public Servant. His bond is $300,000.

6 | SEPTEMBER 2024 PUSHMATAHA COUNTY Presumed Innocent Until Proven Guilty
A LONG, LONG YEAR
An almost year-old murder case could possibly
be solved after OSBI agents arrested a 20-yearold man in connection to the crime.
Kristopher Coffelt, of Antlers, was charged July
18 with murder in the first degree and aggravated
assault and battery in Pushmataha District Court.
According to Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI), in the early morning hours of August 29, 2023, the Antlers Police Department requested the Oklahoma State
Bureau of Investigation to assist with a home invasion near East Main Street
and Northeast D Street in Antlers. When the Antlers Police Department arrived
on scene, they discovered 95-year-old Gladys Land and another 73-year-old
female victim, who had both suffered significant injuries. They were treated at the
scene and rushed to a local hospital. It was determined there was forced entry
through the back door of the home.
Land unfortunately succumbed to her injuries and the second victim was later
released from the hospital, but is still receiving treatment for her injuries.
Based on the information and evidence obtained, OSBI special agents arrested Coffelt on July 17, 2024, and booked into the Pushmataha County Jail.
Bond for Coffelt was set at $2M and he is scheduled to next appear in court on
September 4 for his preliminary hearing conference.

A simple speeding ticket landed an Oklahoma
City woman in the Coal County jail after a Coalgate
Officer discovered meth and copious amounts of
cash in her vehicle.
Meigan Flores, 34, was charged July 22 with
unlawful possession of controlled drug with intent
to distribute (methamphetamine), misdemeanor
unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, driving with license cancelled suspended/revoked, and speeding, in Coal County
District Court.
According to the Coalgate Police Department, on July 19, Coalgate police
officers stopped a vehicle for speeding 37 mph in a 25 mph zone. After making
contact with the driver, officers learned that she had a suspended license.
While speaking with the driver, officers discovered a clear crystal-like substance that field tested positive for
methamphetamines and a clear
glass pipe with residue. During inventory of the vehicle, officers located a brown sack that contained
10 rolled-up bundles wrapped of
cash with rubber bands totaling
$9,400.
Flores was taken into custody
and transported to the Coal County jail. Bond was set at $15,000.

HE'S A PEPPER
An man who just needed a couple of packs of
smokes found himself in the pokey because he
decided to steal the cigarettes and then attempted to steal a Dr. Pepper delivery truck.
Frank Darrell Gregory, 60, was charged July 23
with attempted larceny of an automobile, resisting
an officer, larceny of merchandise from a retailer,
and public intoxication, in Bryan County District
Court.
According to Bokchito Police Chief Eric Guhl, on July 23, at around 5:45 a.m.,
Officers Walker and Hicks with the Bokchito Police Department responded to
a call for service at the EZ Mart, located at 117 W Main Street. The store clerk
reported that a man entered the store and stole two packs of cigarettes. The
man then exited the store and got into a Dr. Pepper truck that was at the store
delivering product. The man attempted to drive away in the truck but was unable
to disengage the air brakes.
The truck driver was able to remove the man from the truck.
When Officer Walker arrived, he was able to identify the man as Gregory. Officers determined that Gregory was under the influence of a narcotic and was
aggressive. He was arrested, after a struggle, and booked into the Bryan County
Jail.
Bond for Gregory was set at $2500 and he was ordered to appear in court on
August 21 for his preliminary hearing conference.

BACK IN THE HEART
OF TEXAS
An Antlers woman and her hubby were taken into
custody after an OHP trooper stopped their vehicle
for speeding and discovered their sordid secret.
Lacy Rae Blackstone, 29, was charged July 31
with felony harboring a fugitive and misdemeanor
obstructing an officer, in Choctaw County District
Court. Her husband, Jordan Hill, was extradited
back to Texas on a warrant.
Reports state that last month, an OHP trooper pulled a vehicle over for speeding. When the trooper made contact with the driver, later identified as Hill, Hill
handed him an invalid Oklahoma driver’s license. When the trooper investigated Hill further, he discovered Hill was wanted in Conroe, Texas, for sex crimes
against a child.
Blackstone and Hill were taken into custody, transported, and booked into the
Choctaw County jail. Bond for Blackstone was set at $12,000 and she was ordered back to court on August 27 for her preliminary hearing conference.
