OHP Trooper Clint Owens was on routine
patrol Feb. 22 heading westbound on US 70
entering Broken Bow when he noticed a red
pickup truck heading eastbound in which the
driver was not wearing his seat belt. He turned
his cruiser around, activated his lights, and
got behind the truck. It would not pull over.
Owens followed the truck several miles
with his lights and siren on, and at Spencer
Road, the truck turned but it still did not stop.
The trooper and truck went another mile to
Joe Hough Road and then turned west at the intersection. Speeds
reached 80-85 mph on the narrow gravel road, Owens wrote in his
affidavit.
Suddenly, the driver, later identified as Santiago Gomez, 35,
locked up the brakes and slid head-on into McCurtain County Deputy McHam, causing significant damage. Owens got out of his patrol
car and pulled Gomez from the truck and cuffed him. He immediately smelled booze on Gomez’ breath. Gomez admitted he had drunk
at least eight beers a couple of hours before. Owens then inventoried
the truck and found a partially empty can of Keystone Light on the
driver’s floorboard. Gomez refused the state’s test and said there was
no need since he didn’t have a license or insurance anyway.
On the way to the jail, Gomez said to Owens that he had always
wanted to run from the police and added how he had planned to
slam on his brakes to make Owens crash his patrol car into his truck.
He further said he hit McHam on purpose because he didn’t have
anything to lose and he knew the police wouldn’t shoot him. He also
had planned to hit toward the back of McHam’s truck to spin him
around so they wouldn’t be able to chase him.
Gomez was charged Feb. 25 with endangering others while eluding/attempting to elude police, DUI, TOC, driving without a license,
failure to maintain security, and failure to wear seat belt. His bond
was set at $10,000 and he was ordered back to court March 26.

Broken Bow Police Officer Kevin Willis was on routine patrol late on
March 3 when dispatch advised him to be on the lookout for a silver
Nissan coming into the city from the east because the owner had not
authorized anyone to drive her vehicle, according to the probable cause
affidavit.
Officer Randy Austin saw the Nissan pull into Suds N Such Laundry on N. Park Drive and confirmed the owner of the vehicle through
dispatch. Willis arrived and spoke with the driver, Wilfort Cherry, and
also saw who he knew as Edward Pulley. He then checked for warrants
on both Cherry and Pulley. Dispatch said there were two warrants on
Cherry. Cherry was arrested on the warrants and placed in the back seat of Willis’ patrol car.
Willis had previously gotten word that Pulley had been seen carrying a pistol. Pulley was
inside the laundromat and the officer immediately noticed a bulge in Pulley’s shirt. Willis
asked him if he had any weapons on him and he stated he did not. As Willis was patting him
down, Pulley lowered his left hand toward his front left waist. The officer grabbed his left
hand and looked in his waistband and saw a pistol. Willis took the pistol and Officer Austin
placed Pulley in handcuffs.Willis checked the gun and discovered the gun was loaded with
eight live rounds in the magazine.
Officer Austin transported Pulley to the Police Department where he was booked in on
complaints of possession of a firearm AFCF; bond was set at $7,500.
Is that a gun or are

Under cover drug agents defuse a mini meth lab found inside a portapotty in the middle of a golf course in Purcell.
Staffers noticed strange sports drink bottles with chemicals inside
the porta-potty and called police.
Officers arrived and soon realized someone had been inside making
meth using the “shake and bake” method.
Three bottles were found, two of them exploded before detectives
arrived.
Agents were able to neutralize the third one without the harmful
chemicals erupting.
“If someone would have been in the porta-pot when it happened
they might have gotten hurt by the flying plastic and the chemicals,”
Purcell Dt. Cpl. Scott Stephens said.
Investigators said they have a lead on one suspect but said they
believe others could be involved.
The inside of the unit was damaged but agents were able to submit latent fingerprints to a
crime lab.

An Atoka County Jail inmate faces
even more trouble after he and another
inmate ate some meth that was hidden
in a cooler.
Christopher Black, 39, of Coalgate,
was charged March 4 with with unlawful delivery of a narcotic in Atoka
County District Court.
According to the probable cause affidavit, jail staff determined that Black
needed to go to the hospital because
he was very red and ill. After he was
cared for, a detention officer looked at
the surveillance video and saw Black go
into the kitchen and had something in his hand. He then gave it to
another inmate and that inmate ate it.
During questioning, the other inmate told the detention officer
what he took was meth and he had gotten it from Black. Black said
he had found the meth in the jail bathroom and took it to the kitchen
to eat it. They also had snorted a line earlier in Black’s cell.
Sheriff Tony Head had found some meth in a cooler inside an envelope addressed to Black.
Fresh from the kitchen

Good golly, the mollys!
Joe Stump, a 34-year-old Florida man, was jailed after he allegedly walked into a local convenience store with two knives and
begged other customers not to eat him.
According to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, a shirtless and
sweaty Joe Stump walked into a Circle K convenience store early
Feb. 8 while holding two large knives.
Shortly after entering the business, Stump made eye contact with
a witness inside the building and asked them not to eat him. Witnesses noted that Stump “appeared to be hallucinating” and called
911.
When deputies located Stump at his residence and ordered him
to drop the knives, he complied with their demand, however, he kept flinching and pulling
away from deputies as if he was being attacked by imaginary aliens, according to the arrest
report.
Later, a friend told deputies that Stump had taken mollys (a pure form of ecstasy) and may
have mixed it with alcohol. A neighbor reported that Stump began hallucinating at his home
and knocked on his neighbor’s window while holding the knives.
Stump was booked into the Collier County jail and charged with disorderly intoxication
and improper exhibition of a dangerous weapon.

Coal County Deputy Joshua Vincent was on patrol just before 8 p.m. on March 2 when he noticed a black truck pulling
a trailer that did not have any tail lights. He pulled the truck
over and spoke with the driver.
While on the stop, Chief Deputy Hughes spoke with 32-year
old Michael Abell about the tinhorn culvert he was transporting on the trailer. Abell said he had gotten the tinhorn off his
property near Wardville. After prodding Abell, he finally confessed he had found the tinhorn on the side of the road and
had taken it without permission, according to the probable
cause affidavit.
Hughes called the county commissioner and asked if he
knew anything about the tinhorn, which he said he did. He added they had replaced it
with a new one and hadn’t gotten the old one yet.
Abell was placed under arrest and read his Miranda Rights. He then confessed he did
steal the tinhorn and, after a few months had passed, was going to take it to Texas and
sell it.
Abell was booked into the Coal County Jail on charges of knowingly concealing stolen
property. His preliminary hearing is set for April 4 at 9 a.m.

OK Jailbirds is cooperating with the efforts of Oklahoma
Department of Human Services to impact the huge social
problem of irresponsible parents who are not paying the
child supports ordered by our courts.
If these biological-only parents won’t honor the courts
order, perhaps public shame will get their attention.
If you know how to reach any of the Deadbeat Parents found on this page, please call the Oklahoma Department of Human Services
Child Support HotLine at 1-800-522-8014
It’s ALL about the KIDS!
Importance of Child Support
Children are our future and child support helps make sure they have a chance at a
productive life. Children have the right to get support from both parents and do not
lose this right when a parent leaves the home.
When children do not receive child support, they can:
Suffer both Emotionally and Physically
Live within a Reduced Standard of Living
Have their Basic Needs Unmet
Become Non-Supportive when they become Parents.
When one or both parents do not support their children, taxpayers often pay the cost
of raising children. When children receive public assistance and their parents pay no
child support, all taxpayers bear the cost of supporting the children.

Gilbert Postelle, 26, was
convicted of fi rst-degree
murder in 2008 of gunning
down four people on
Memorial Day 2005 at a
trailer house at 1800 SE 29 in
Oklahoma City.
Postelle is one of four men
charged with conspiracy and
four counts of fi rst-degree
murder in the May 30, 2005
deaths of James “Donnie”

James Alderson and Terry
Smith.
His brother David Bradford Postelle, 24, was convicted in
March 2008 and sentenced to life in prison without parole.
Their father, Earl Bradford Postelle, 44, was ruled
incompetent to stand trial in 2006.
Randal Wade Byus, 43, pleaded guilty to reduced charges

A Durant man learned a very important lesson March 6: don’t
make police bleed.
Around 10:45 a.m. that day, deputy Vinny Cacace received a call
from dispatch about a man, identified as Gary Reynolds, 45, who
threatened to burn someone’s house down with kids inside. The
homeowner told Cacace he thought Reynolds was drunk, so he didn’t
want to file a report.
Later that day, Cacace received another call from the homeowner,
who said Reynolds was trying to come in the home with a gun. When
Cacace arrived at the residence, he found out Reynolds was inside the
house, but immediately after, Reynolds barged out the house brandishing a cane, saying, “Here I am!”
Reynolds refused to comply with Cacace’s requests and told him, “If you want to talk to
me, you come here.” When he tried to get past a gate, Reynolds charged at him, all the while
sweating profusely on his face and arms. Reynolds punched Cacace in the temple and kept resisting, so Durant Police Captain Andy Navid came by with pepper spray, spraying Reynolds
in the eyes. Despite this, it took the officers several seconds to handcuff Reynolds and put him
in a sitting position by his truck.
After Reynolds was subdued, Cacace realized he was also sprayed and was bleeding from
his head and eye. After he was medically cleared, he put Reynolds in double locking handcuffs
and took him to county lockup.
Reynolds was allowed to leave the jail on a personal recognizance bond March 7. He has a
court date set for 8:45 a.m. March 27.

Many burglars are known for their array of disguises.
One burglar in Slidell, La. apparently forgot his and improvised. Surveillance video shows the 23-year-old suspect used a bucket when he robbed his former employer,
Kenney’s Seafood. The bucket seemed to hinder him a
little. The suspect had to tilt up the bucket every so often
to catch a glimpse of his surroundings. It turns out his
disguise was a bad idea. Police were able to identify and
arrest the suspect at his home.
A teenage girl and her friend are accused of drugging
her parents so they could use the Internet past curfew
time. “[The parents] woke up about 1 a.m. They had
hangover-like symptoms, they felt really groggy, had a
headache, went back to sleep. They felt the same way the
next morning,” said Lt. Lon Milka with the Rocklin Police
Department. The parents picked up a drug test kit that
some parents buy to check on their children. But they
used it on themselves. They discovered the milkshakes
the two girls had given them were drugged with sleep
medicine. The girls gave chocolate to dad and vanilla to
mom. The parents’ rule was no Internet access after 10
p.m. But with the parents in dreamland, the girls had
free rein. The girls are underage, so they won’t be facing
prison time. The case is being handled through the juvenile courts.
No one can say San Bernardino’s police chief is afraid
to “tackle” crime in the city. Chief Rob Handy was in civilian clothes Wednesday when he was alerted to a suspicious man trying to sell power tools outside a restaurant.
When the man saw a patrol car nearby, he took off on
foot. The chief ran him down and tackled him. During
the pursuit, a gun fell out of the suspect’s waistband. The
suspect was arrested on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a handgun.
A bizarre brawl involving a clown and a Milwaukee
police offi cer was caught on tape. Cellphone video shot
by witness Mitch Cooper shows the clown attacking a police offi cer. “The clown was resisting so the cop needed to
do what he needed to do to make sure he was safe,” said
Cooper who happened to be driving by. “It was funny
to witness, probably not so fun for the clown, but as a
spectator it was pretty entertaining.” According to a report, police had received several complaints prior to the
brawl that the clown had been chasing cars with a squirt
gun. The clown is a well-known local activist who is often spotted protesting outside government buildings. He
was arrested for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

In this installment of Tips From
a Trooper, I’m going to talk about a
violation that we see every day. It
is something I am sure most of my
readers have done, many times, without giving it another thought. I
doubt if most have even considered it to be unsafe, much less illegal,
but it is. The violation is passing on the shoulder, and it happens all
the time.
The car ahead of you is stopped in the lane of traffic, and you see the
left turn signal on. Its not turning because of oncoming traffic, which
it must yield to before turning, so you just slide your vehicle over to
the right, onto the shoulder, or maybe even just the widened part of
the road where the intersection is, and pass right by them. Maybe
you slowed down a little, just to be safe, or maybe not. You are in a
hurry, and don’t want to slow down to wait for traffic to clear. Doesn’t
seem like a big deal does it? Well, passing on the shoulder is illegal,
and can be a very dangerous situation!
The Statute governing this scenario is actually in the section that
states when passing on the right is permitted...it gives a few examples,
one of which is when a vehicle is preparing to make a left hand turn.
Sounds like its covered and should be legal, right? The last sentence
of this Statute is where you find the restriction for passing on the
shoulder.
It states:
The driver of a vehicle may overtake and pass another
vehicle upon the right only under conditions permitting such
movement in safety. In no event shall such movement be made
by driving off the pavement or main traveled portion of the
roadway.
Statute also defines roadway for us: That portion of highway
improved, designed or ordinarily used for vehicular travel, exclusive
of the shoulder.
The reason for this Statute is simple, and for this exact scenario...
not only is the vehicle in front of you turning left, but the oncoming
vehicle is also going to turn left, and visibility of your vehicle is
blocked by the stopped one, which makes a blind spot, and the
potential for the oncoming vehicle to turn left in front of you, just as
you are passing the other vehicle! We work accidents where this is the
causation all the time, and they can all be prevented by obeying this
law, and practicing some patience! How much time do you think you
actually save when doing this, anyway? Next time you see someone
do it, watch and see if you don’t catch them at the next traffic light...
they really didn’t save anything, and a couple of seconds aren’t worth
risking an accident and a life.
Thanks for reading, buckle up, and be safe!

There are times in our life when
others hurt or anger us. We sometimes
feel a strong desire to settle the score.
Proverbs 20:22 says Do not say, ‘I’ll
pay you back for this wrong!’ Wait for
the Lord and he will deliver you.”
The feelings that drive us to revenge
are powerful and strong, their
destructive nature can consume us.
The Bible responds with a “Do not...”
statement, not just a word of teaching
or advice but this verse is worded with
the strength of a command.
We would be better off to stifle the
thoughts of revenge early and quickly;
we should not even speak about it. When thoughts of revenge come we should
redirect them to thoughts of waiting on the Lord.
There are many reasons why we need to wait for the Lord to act. To wait without
giving in or compromise is a statement of faith. To wait is a testimony that we
believe in the promises of God and his commitment to us.
We are to wait, not for time to heal all wounds, or wait for an opportunity, or
wait for the sake of waiting, we are to wait for The Lord. We wait on purpose
for the one who created all things and has power to change all things, he is the
one who rules the universe and will judge the hearts of all men. We wait and we
should focus on the Lord and not our anger.
This verse ends with a conditional promise. The condition of course is not to
act on our desire to get revenge but to wait for the Lord instead. The promise is
that he will deliver. It suggest that the Lord will make things right, but it is not
specific; will the Lord deliver us from our enemies, or the situation or maybe
more importantly from ourselves and our bitterness?
As much as we need to be delivered from our own enemies we also need to be
delivered from our desire for revenge. It may be that even though God is a just
God he is more interested in changing our natures than balancing justice. He
allows circumstances in our lives to give us the challenges we need to grow. He
may sometimes deliver us not from our oppressors but from ourselves.

Henry “Hank” Laird, a 17-year-old Tulsa teen, was jailed Jan. 27 after
he allegedly beat his mother to death with the butt of a shotgun and then
laughed when police took him into custody.
According to Tulsa police, a warrant for Laird’s arrest was issued the
day before after Linda Laird’s parents arrived at her home to find her
bludgeoned to death at the foot of a staircase.
The parents told police that Henry Laird and a friend, identified as Josia
Sklar, fled the residence when they arrived.
Sklar was tracked to a motel and arrested at about 2 a.m. Wednesday,
while Henry Laird remained at large.
Sklar told detectives that he watched Laird repeatedly pound his mother’s head with the
butt of a shotgun until she became unresponsive. When asked how many times Laird struck
his mother with the gun, Sklar answered “about 20 times.”
Sklar stated that Linda Laird still showed signs of life following the attack, but he didn’t do
anything because he was afraid of “Hank.” That’s when Sklar placed a pillow under Linda
Laird’s head and then went to sleep in a back room, according to the arrest report.
Police received a tip the morning of his arrest that Laird was staying at a house on South
Boston Avenue. He was taken into custody without incident that afternoon.
Detectives noted that Laird was “laughing and smiling” as they led him to a patrol car.
Both Laird And Sklar were booked into jail and charged with first-degree murder.
The Oklahoma State Medical Examinator’s Office determined that Linda Laird suffered
“blunt force trauma to the head and neck” and ruled her death a homicide.

Innocent Until Proven Guilty Choctaw County March 2013 | 25
An ex-con has new felony charges to contend with after his arrest
Feb. 23.
Around 5:35 p.m. that day, Hugo Sgt. Chad Allen was dispatched
to the 800 block of North H Street after hearing about a burglary in
progress, where Gary Satterfield, 34, broke into the residence wearing a camouflage jacket and red hat.
Allen met with the reporting party, who said she got home to hear
weird sounds coming from the north end, where the house’s bedrooms are. She went to investigate, asking “Who’s in there?” Satterfield replied, “It’s me, ma’am” and pulled the camouflage jacket over
his face, then ran from a bedroom and out of the house. After regaining her composure, she went outside and saw the man running west.
Soon after, a black male driving a blue Chevrolet pickup stopped in front of the house and
asked her if she was looking for Satterfield. The man told her Satterfield ran into another
house, which he described as brick with a two-tone Chevrolet parked in the front.
Allen and officer Don Duddley went to the home he described, where he finally saw Satterfield. The suspect told Allen he lived at the home.
Satterfield initially denied wearing the camouflage jacket and said he was never at the burglarized home, but the officers found the clothes and a scent trail leading from there to his
location. At that point, Satterfield’s mood changed, and he told the officers he had been convicted of manslaughter and burglary before, adding that he knew better than that. He was
arrested and taken to the Choctaw County Jail.
Satterfield has a court date for 9:30 a.m. March 26. He remains in custody.

A traffic stop didn’t end so simply for an Antlers man March
3.
Around 4 p.m. that day, Pushmataha County sheriff’s deputy
James Marzek was patrolling State Highway 271 when he saw
a light blue vehicle with a paper tag. Since he couldn’t read the
tag and saw the left tail light was taped with Duct tape, he initiated a stop for defective equipment.
Once the vehicle stopped, he confronted the driver, who provided her license, as did two of the three passengers. Marzek
had the driver, who was not arrested, get into his patrol car,
where he told her why she was stopped. He asked her if there
was any contraband in the vehicle, and she said she had a small
pocket knife. At that point, Marzek noticed the passengers,
including Troy Lawhorn, 26, moving around and looking like
they were trying to hide something.
The driver gave Marzek consent to search her car, and he ordered Lawhorn and the other
passengers to get out. Lawhorn was sweating and seemed nervous, prompting the deputy to
ask whether he had anything illegal on him. Lawhorn admitted having pot in his front pants
pocket. A search of his things turned up the marijuana, rolling papers, a needle, a methamphetamine pipe and a white plastic bag with methamphetamine inside.
Lawhorn was arrested on complaints of possession of controlled substances and public
intoxication.
Lawhorn posted a $25,000 bond March 6. He has a court date set for March 27 at 9:30 a.m.
