The OSBI has made an arrest in a
10-year-old case involving a missing
McCurtain County woman.
Hope Meek, 25, was reported
missing by her husband in late
February 2002 numerous days after
he last saw her. OSBI was involved
early in this case and has gathered
ample circumstantial evidence to
show that Hope is deceased and that
she died February 21, 2002, after a
fight with her husband at their home.
OSBI agents arrested Jerry Meek,
39, Hope’s husband, at the International Paper Company in
Valliant where he works. He was booked into the McCurtain
County Jail on one count of first degree murder. His bond has
been set at $250,000.
This arrest was made possible by a new District Attorney
willing to prosecute a case without the victim’s body and the
passage of time to prove Hope is deceased.

A 19-year-old Idabel resident faces felony
drug trafficking charges after having nearly
100 grams of methamphetamine in his
possession Aug. 27.
Narcotics investigator Johnny Voss, a
member of Idabel’s district drug task force,
helped serve a search warrant at the home of
Robert Jackson and his girlfriend just before
11 a.m. that day. Idabel police officers at the
scene told Voss that Jackson was trying to
flush the drugs down a toilet.
Voss looked in the restroom and sure
enough, he found marijuana in the toilet bowl
and in the toilet tank, according to the affidavit. Once the marijuana
was removed from the toilet and tank, officers found a set of digital
scales in the tank and $30 in a trash can nearby.
In the couple’s bedroom, agents found two semiautomatic
handguns, .380 caliber and 9 mm, respectively. There was also $500
on their nightstand and a bolt-action rifle in a corner of the room,
as well as three large bags of methamphetamine weighing nearly 30
grams each.
Also, a search inside Jackson’s walls turned up more than $4,000
in cash, which was hidden behind picture frames. Furthermore, Voss
found video evidence of Jackson and Dewberry’s activity in a kitchen
drawer.
In an interview, Jackson admitted ownership of the money and
weapons but did not say the drugs belonged to him. Jackson’s
girlfriend was not arrested at the scene. In her interview, she said she
told Jackson not to deal drugs out of her apartment but that he did
anyway.
At the time of his arrest, Jackson was under supervision by the
prison system for a methamphetamine possession charge he received
in 2011. He was also convicted of felony marijuana possession in
Texas on Valentine’s Day of this year and received a five-year deferred
sentence.
Jackson posted a $100,000 bond Sept. 4. He has a court date set
for 9 a.m. Sept. 25.

One pot, two additional drug charges
A Broken Bow man faces felony drug
charges after keeping a one-pot meth lab
near a school on Aug. 19.
Drug task force agent Roy Linkswiller
reported receiving a phone call from
McCurtain County investigator Ryan
Dunn, who reported seeing a one-pot
meth lab in a car across the street from
Oak Hill Head Start. The car belonged to
Charles Jamerson, 35, according to the
affidavit.
Dunn told Linkswiller that Jamerson
was a suspect in a burglary and that he
was pulled over for having a suspended
license. When Dunn approached Jamerson during the stop, he
saw a plastic bottle containing liquid and lithium strips on the
passenger’s side of Jamerson’s Toyota Corolla.
When Linkswiller interviewed Jamerson about the lab,
Jamerson said he gets one or two boxes of pseudoephedrine pills
and makes about four grams of methamphetamine each time. He
said he gets the pills, grinds them and soaks them, but added that
he does not finish the manufacturing process because he doesn’t
like the smells throughout.
Jamerson told the investigator that he purposely made the onepot lab wrong because he “didn’t want that stuff on the street”,
according to the affidavit. He also confessed to having syringes
and liquid fire in his car.
While cleaning up the car, investigators noted that the lab had
too much metal inside and would likely be explosive, according to
the affidavit. The lab was 75 feet away from the property line of
the school, Linkswiller said.
Jamerson was previously convicted of possession of
methamphetamine precursor substances in 2003, so he faces
prison time if convicted. He has a court date set for 9 a.m. Sept.
25.

TRESPASS ON RR PROPERTY POSS OF MARIJUANA CRULTY TO ANIMAL
A 40-year-old man is behind bars in the Atoka
County Jail on a first-degree murder charge,
accused of murdering a man he got into a fight
with behind his house.
The charges were filed in Atoka County
District Court September 4 against Mitchell
Monroe Craver, of Atoka.
According to affidavit, on August 27, Atoka
Police Chief Gene Dodson requested OSBI
assistance in the disappearance of Alan Wayne
Oliver. Oliver had not been seen for several days
and Dodson had information that Craver could
have possibly killed him.
Craver, who was already in the Atoka County
Jail on a possession of narcotics charge, told agents he and Oliver got into
a fight and Oliver pulled out a knife. Craver then took the knife from Oliver
and stabbed him repeatedly until he was still. Without checking to see if
Oliver was actually dead, Craver drug Oliver to his van, put him inside, drove
to a wooded area behind the Atoka High School football field and set the van
on fire. He added he waited for about 15 minutes and then walked back to
his house.
Craver pled not guilty at his arraignment. His preliminary hearing is
scheduled for September 12 and bond was set at $750,000.

By Lt. Jeff James
Oklahoma Highway Patrol
As the summer heat rages on,
and rain seems to be a distant
memory for much of the state, fires
are becoming an everyday occurrence across Oklahoma. Many of
these could be prevented, and this month I’ll talk about a few ways to
cut down on the possibility of inadvertently starting a fire that may
destroy lives and property.
One of the things Trooper’s see almost every day is the cigarette toss
out the window. For some reason, people don’t want to extinguish
their cigarettes and put them in an ashtray in their car; they just flick
them out the window. What you are saying when you do that is, you
don’t care about the people in that area, or their property. Every time
you throw one of those out, you take a chance of starting a fire that
can devastate a community. If you smoke, use an ashtray or some
type of container in your car to keep your butts in, don’t throw it
out. If a Trooper sees you throw one out, expect the very expensive
citation that comes with that charge!
Another thing that has started fires are things like safety chains on
trailers being too long, and dragging on the pavement. This causes
sparks, which is all it takes to get our drought-stricken grass to burn.
Also, keep bearings greased, as a seized bearing has been known to
spark and cause fires. Be careful driving a car through tall grass, as
the catalytic converter on cars gets hot enough to catch grass on fire.
OBEY THE BURN BAN! Yes, this means you! No reason that you
can justify burning trash, brush piles, having a campfire, or open
grill will be adequate to the people who lose a home when it gets
out of control. If you are violating a burn ban, you are telling your
neighbors that you just don’t care about them or their property.
Also, be alert and aware of what is going on around you. Arson is
certainly a cause of several wildfires across our state. Alert motorists
can help catch an arsonist before they do too much damage, but only
if you are a good witness. Try to get a good description of the person,
their vehicle, a tag if possible, clothing they are wearing, etc, and try
to get that info to law enforcement as soon as you can! You could be
the difference between someone losing a home or just having a close
call.
Lastly, go and thank a firefighter or law enforcement officer for
the work they have been doing recently. These men and women
are battling every day to save lives and property, and getting people
out of harm’s way, in extreme conditions. I know that many of you
donate water and food, and on behalf of all of us in the Emergency
Response community, we thank you for that! Thanks for reading,
buckle up, and be safe!
Tips from a Trooper

Fifteen years ago, on July 26, 1997, 19-year-old
Tiffany Johnston was abducted from the Sunshine
Car Wash at 7709 N. W. 23rd in Bethany. Her
vehicle was found abandoned at the car wash. Her
body was found the next day on Gregory Road in
Canadian County two-tenths of a mile south of
Interstate 40.
Bethany Police Department requested OSBI assist with the
homicide investigation. The medical examiner’s offi ce ruled the
Bethany resident died of strangulation.
OSBI agents and Bethany detectives have conducted numerous
interviews concerning the disappearance and murder of Johnston.
In late 2005, the case became inactive with no more leads to follow.
Last year, the agent assigned the case retired. Johnston’s case has
now been reassigned. That agent is currently pouring through case
fi les and has requested a reward be offered to focus attention on the
murder and, perhaps, create new leads. This is the second time a
reward has been offered.
The OSBI is now offering up to a $10,000 reward for information
leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for
Tiffany Johnston’s murder. If you have any information helpful in
this case, please call the OSBI hotline at 1-800-522-8017.

OK Jailbirds is cooperating with the efforts of Oklahoma
Department of Human Services to impact the huge social
problem of irresponsible parents who are not paying the
child supports ordered by our courts.
If these biological-only parents won’t honor the courts
order, perhaps public shame will get their attention.
If you know how to reach any of the Deadbeat Parents found on this page, please call the Oklahoma Department of Human Services
Child Support HotLine at 1-800-522-8014
It’s ALL about the KIDS!
Importance of Child Support
Children are our future and child support helps make sure they have a chance at a
productive life. Children have the right to get support from both parents and do not
lose this right when a parent leaves the home.
When children do not receive child support, they can:
Suffer both Emotionally and Physically
Live within a Reduced Standard of Living
Have their Basic Needs Unmet
Become Non-Supportive when they become Parents.
When one or both parents do not support their children, taxpayers often pay the cost
of raising children. When children receive public assistance and their parents pay no
child support, all taxpayers bear the cost of supporting the children.

A missing jewelry report resulted in
a Bryan County man receiving felony
charges.
At 4 p.m. on Aug. 24, Sheriff’s Deputy
Jay Haislip went to take a report from a
woman who said a 5-foot-5 white male
was at her house uninvited and stole
things from the residence. The woman told
officers that nine guns, a pair of binoculars,
eternity bands, a three-band diamond ring
and several antique bracelets had been
stolen from her.
At the time, she believed the suspect,
later identified as Jonathan Hicks, 36, was
related to her housekeeper. Hicks lives with his sister in a trailer
park behind Walmart, according to the affidavit.
At 8:30 a.m. the next day, Haislip paid Hicks’ trailer a visit and,
after seeing several of the stolen rifles in his room, transported him
to the station for an interview. During the time of the burglary,
Hicks was high on Lortab pills, he said.
Hicks also said another man, who has not been charged, did the
actual burglary and that he was only the getaway driver. He added
that he got scared once he saw the homeowner, so he left. His story
didn’t work well, as he was then transported to the Bryan County
Jail.
Once Hicks was booked, deputies determined he and his
accomplice stole more than $20,000 worth of loot from the woman.
Hicks has an extensive history of theft, with three theft-related
felony convictions on his record. On Dec. 28, 2006, he was
convicted of two counts of embezzlement and one count of seconddegree burglary and received a five-year suspended sentence. Also,
he pleaded guilty to possession of controlled substances in 2005,
earning a five-year suspended sentence except for the first 20 days.
Hicks faces charges of second-degree burglary, knowingly
concealing stolen property and possessing firearms after a felony
conviction. He posted bond Aug. 29 and has a court date set for
8:45 a.m. Oct. 18.

Lecia Cooley, a 46-year-old Broken Arrow
woman was jailed after she allegedly bit off part
of a man’s ear during a fight that included the
family dog.
According to Broken Arrow police, officers
were called to the couple’s residence after
receiving a domestic violence complaint.
When officers arrived on the scene, they
found the victim with a large portion of his ear
lobe missing. He also had bruising to his face
and numerous lacerations all over his body,
including small puncture wounds that appeared to be from the family
dog.
When detectives questioned the victim, he stated that both Cooley
and the family dog had attacked him - with Cooley inflicting the most
damage with her teeth.
Investigators say Cooley punched the victim in the face before
biting off a large part of his ear lobe. The dog then bit the victim as he
struggled to get away from Cooley.
Cooley was missing part of her canine tooth, which police believe
broke off as she was biting the victim.
Cooley was booked into jail and charged with maiming (mayhem).
The dog was not arrested.

DUI
A man was arrested on felony drug complaints in Bryan County
Aug. 17 after officers found more than 9 grams of crack cocaine
in his possession.
Durant Police Officer Jesse Petty spoke with a truck driver
from Texas just before midnight after he saw him acting strangely near a public parking garage. The man, Timothy Brooks, 42,
was walking back and forth to approach an elevator but never
used it, Petty said.
After an ID check, Petty asked Brooks if a K-9 dog could sniff
around his GMC Envoy. Brooks consented, which did not end
well for him. In his center console, the K-9 found a jar of a gel
substance with a false bottom, which revealed white crack rocks
wrapped in plastic.
Brooks admitted ownership of the truck he was sitting in at the time but refused to
discuss the drugs found. During the arrest, Brooks said he felt pain as a result of being
handcuffed due to his carpal tunnel syndrome. However, Petty reported there was at
least a two-finger space between his wrists and the cuffs.
Brooks was previously convicted of murder in Dallas County on July 20, 1990. Court
records show that crack cocaine played a role in the murder. He was sentenced to 40
years in prison and was paroled in June 2010. After being paroled, Brooks, a former
Navy veteran, was hired as a truck driver.
For his most recent charges, Brooks posted a $20,000 bond Aug. 23. He has a court
date set for 1:30 p.m. Nov. 15.

TURPIN
Mitt Romney should campaign more in Tennessee: a jealous resident of
the Volunteer State confronted his girlfriend over a picture of a man on her
Facebook page — and had no idea it was the GOP presidential candidate.
Lowell Turpin, 40, was arrested on suspicion of domestic assault last
week following a violent confrontation with his live-in girlfriend over what
he thought was a pic of a romantic rival on her Facebook page, police said.
The apparently news-blind boyfriend from Clinton, Tenn., “angrily demanded to know who the male was” — totally unaware that the man with
the graying hair was the Republican presidential nominee, an incident report from the Anderson County Sheriff’s Department noted.
Still suspicious after his girlfriend denied an affair, Turpin accused the
woman of “attempting to communicate with friends through her Facebook account.” He ripped
the laptop out of her hands, smashed it against a wall and smacked her in the face with a closed
fist, police said.
The victim suffered an injured wrist and busted lower lip, police said.
“The report says nothing about the suspect being a Democrat,” Chief Deputy Mark Lucas told
the Daily News. “I think this was just because he was male.”
Turpin, who is 5’ 8” and 320 pounds, was booked into Anderson County Jail in lieu of $1,000
bond, jail records show.
The woman said Turpin had struck her “multiple times over several years,” according to the
report.
Police said Turpin had no prior arrests for domestic violence.

Michael Dewayne Smith
Michael DeWayne Smith was a member of the
Oak Grove Posse, a subset of the Crips gang in
Oklahoma City. On November 8, 2000, three
members of the Oak Grove Posse attempted to rob
Tran’s Food Mart in south Oklahoma City. The
three robbers were Teron “T-Nok” Armstrong,
Kenneth “Peanut” Kinchion, and Dewayne
“Pudgy-O” Shirley. During the course of the
robbery attempt, the owner of the store shot and
killed Armstrong. Kinchion and Shirley were
eventually arrested. Smith was not involved in the
attempted robbery but had close personal ties to
Armstrong.
On Friday, February 22, 2002, two days before
the trial of Kinchion and Shirley was scheduled to start, Smith left his apartment in
the Del Mar Apartments in Oklahoma City early in the morning. His roommate,
Marcus Berry (also known as Marcus Compton), saw Smith take a .357 caliber
revolver with him. Smith went fi rst to Janet Moore’s apartment looking for her
son Phillip Zachary who he believed was a police informant. Smith had earlier told
Berry that “snitches need to be dead.”
The evidence supports the conclusion that Smith arrived at Moore’s apartment
sometime before 6:30 a.m. Shoe prints indicated that Smith kicked in her front
door and then her bedroom door. Moore began screaming, and, at approximately
6:30 a.m., a downstairs neighbor heard arguing between a man and a woman and
then a single “pop” followed by footsteps.
Later that morning around 7:30 a.m. Smith arrived at A-Z Mart, a convenience
store approximately fi fteen miles from the Del Mar Apartments. A-Z Mart was
immediately next door to Tran’s Food Mart, the site of the earlier robbery attempt
where Armstrong had been killed. The clerk on duty that morning at A-Z Mart
was Sarath “Babu” Pulluru. Pulluru was fi lling in for the store owner who was
taking the day off. Smith told detectives that he emptied two pistols into Pulluru,
took some money, and used bottles of Ronsonol lighter fl uid to start fi res in the
store. Smith said he set fi re to the cash register, Pulluru’s body, and a back room
in order to destroy evidence. Shoeprints at the scene tracked Pulluru’s blood from
the cash register area, where his body was found, down the aisle to where the
Ronsonol lighter fl uid was displayed for sale. The bloody shoe prints at the A-Z
Mart were similar to the shoe prints found at Moore’s apartment.

CULTIVATION OF MARIJUANA BURGLARY- 2ND DEGREE FALSE PERSONATION A&B ON A POLICE OFFICER
A love triangle dispute ended with Grant man
going to the hospital with multiple stab wounds
and another man going to jail August 27.
Choctaw County Deputy Ryan London arrested Eric Lindsey, 53, of Grant, and he was charged
the next day with assault with a deadly weapon in
Choctaw County District Court for the stabbing.
According to the affidavit filed in the case, London was called to a home on N4233 Rd. in Grant
about several people being stabbed. When he
arrived, only was person had been stabbed. The
victim was taken to the hospital and then on to
St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa with multiple stab
wounds from a “fairly large blade.”
London spoke with the victim’s girlfriend who said she had gotten back
from the store to see the victim on Lindsey’s front porch with Lindsey
drinking vodka and talking. The victim told the girlfriend to call another
woman so he could (have sex) with her. She added they were all “kicking it
and chillin’”, but the victim got more and more drunk and insisted she call
the woman to “make it happen.”
Finally, fed up, the girlfriend told the victim to do it himself. He said no
because he thought the girlfriend would try and sneak away with Lindsey.
Lindsey, seeing what was coming, went back into his house to avoid
getting involved.
The girlfriend and the victim got into a physical altercation in his yard
and Lindsey came back outside and told them to go home. The victim kept
on and Lindsey went outside and put his hands between them and told
them to stop. The victim then jumped Lindsey. After a few moments, the
fight broke up and Lindsey went back into the house.
The girlfriend also told the deputy that apparently her boyfriend had
not had enough, so he began pounding on Lindsey’s back door, according
to the report.
Other witnesses told London they saw Lindsey cut the victim with a
knife while they were fighting. When the victim got cut, he took off running and fell to the ground.
Lindsey denied ever having a knife.
Lindsey’s bond was set at $10,000 and was ordered back to court for his
preliminary hearing on Sept. 29.
The girlfriend has since filed a protective order against the victim.

A 21-year-old Antlers man was taken into
custody after an observant deputy noticed
him sitting in a truck in a bank parking lot
at 3 o’clock in the morning trying to steal its
stereo.
Justin Conley was charged with seconddegree burglary, attempting to escape,
possession of burglary tools, public
intoxication, and obstruction of an officer on
September 6 in Pushmataha County District
Court.
According to the police affidavit, Deputy
Shawn Culver was turning off S.H. 271 onto
S.H. 3 when he noticed the man, later identified as Conley, inside a
truck in the parking lot of First Bank. Culver snuck up on the truck
and surprised Conley, who immediately dropped his tools and took
off running. Conley jumped over fences and through resident’s
yards until Culver finally caught up with him and tackled him to the
ground.
Culver ordered Conley to lay flat, but Conley then announced, “I
can’t because I just s**t myself!”
Again, Culver told him to lay flat, and again Conley stated he
couldn’t because he had soiled himself.
Culver asked Conley his name, but Conley refused to answer. As
he got Conley’s wallet out of his back pants pocket, he noticed the
strong odor of alcohol coming from Conley.
Conley pled with the deputy to let him go or shoot him in the back
of the head because he was on probation and he did not want to go
back to prison. Culver told him he was not going to shoot him, but he
was going to jail and to just calm down.
As Culver and Conley were walking back to the parking lot, Conley
said he felt as if he was going to pass out. He then fell to the ground,
so Culver had to walk to a nearby house and call for backup. Soon,
Antlers Police Officer Jeremy Buchanan showed up, put the cuffs
on Conley, and took him to jail. Conley complained he had a broken
ankle and an ambulance met them at the jail.
Conley posted a $5000 bond and was ordered back to court
September 18 with counsel. His preliminary hearing is set for
October 3.

Drugs and alcohol continue to be
big issues around
the world. While
the Bible doesn’t
say much about
cocaine, heroin or
marijuana, we can
assume that drugs
are not a good
choice for anyone.
The Bible does talk
about alcohol and
has some pretty
clear thoughts about it. Let me just say this as a side
note. If you live in a country that has an age limit for
alcohol consumption, you need to abide by the laws of
your country. Thus, any alcohol consumption for anyone
underage is breaking the law. This is black and white.
Where it gets gray is when you become of age and have
to make choices about alcohol. Read the following passages of scripture. Listen to the Spirit of God in you and
begin today to decide how you are going to navigate the
world of alcohol.
Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your
life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, (Ephesians
5:18 NLT)
