A Vinita man pleaded “the fifth”
when cops caught him driving drunk
in Stillwater on November 25.
According to the affidavit, a Stillwater police officer was driving westbound on Sixth Street at approximately 9:25 a.m. when dispatch advised
there was a vehicle entering Stillwater
on Highway 51. The vehicle was “all
over the road and was bouncing from
one side of the road to the other.”
The officer saw the vehicle turn into
a business in the 700 block of S. Country Club. He saw a man sitting in the
driver’s seat, looking down at his lap. As officers approached the
SUV, the man exited the vehicle.
The man, 22-year-old Heath Daniel Hawkins, was unsteady on his
feet and appeared to be intoxicated. The officer asked him his name,
and he noticed Hawkins had thick, slurred speech and red, glossy
eyes. The officer could also smell alcohol.
He told Hawkins he “reeked of alcohol,” and he asked him how
much he had had to drink.
Hawkins looked at the ground.
The officer said, “You don’t know?”
Hawkins shook his head and said, “No contest.”
When the officer asked him if that meant he didn’t want to answer,
Hawkins said, “I plead the fifth.”
The officer administered sobriety tests, but Hawkins couldn’t pass.
He was arrested and taken to jail.
Hawkins is being charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and transporting an open container. He
was released on a personal recognizance bond and is scheduled to
appear in court on December 9, 2014.

A Kentucky woman was arrested on November 4
for crystal meth possession while wearing a t-shirt
that said “I Heart Crystal Meth”
Deborah Delane Asher, 37, was charged with trafficking a control substance, methamphetamine in
the photo seen above. Richard Jeffrey Rice, 57, was
also arrested at that time and faces the same charges. According to the Laurel Co. Sheriff’s Department,
“the arrests were the result of a drug investigation
conducted there after deputies located 2 subjects in
possession of 3.37 grams of crystal meth and a set of
digital scales.”
The arrests were made at Dolly Miller Road, six miles north of London,
Kentucky.

Bristow man Darin Thomas Reed, 21, was taken to jail
November 18 after a Xanax- and beer-fueled 5-finger discount shopping spree at the Bristow Walmart.
Shortly after 1 a.m., Bristow police received a call from
a Walmart employee. She told them they caught a guy trying to leave the store with a buggy full of unpaid for items.
When officers arrived, they made contact with Reed, who
was walking out of the parking lot. While speaking with
him, they noticed he was unsteady on his feet and had
slurred speech.
Reed told them he recently had a couple beers and had
taken a couple Xanax pills, and he wasn’t sure how he got
to Walmart.
Officers detained Reed until they could find out some more information. During a patdown search, an officer found “all kinds of jewelry with the tags still on
them.”
The employee told them an associate told her a customer was filling up a sack
with merchandise. She said she hung out at the front of the store since there was
only one register open in the store. She saw a man (Reed) walking out the door
with a ripped sack and a 32-inch television. When she asked him for his receipt,
he told her he paid for the items in electronics. She told him that wasn’t possible
since the electronics register wasn’t open. Reed told her she was just picking on
him.
The items Reed attempted to steal totaled $918.70 and included a TV, Xbox
games, a controller, thumb drives and jewelry. He was transported to jail and
locked up behind bars.
Reed is being charged with grand larceny and public intoxication. His bond was
set at $5,350, and he is scheduled to appear in court on December 5, 2014.

A Stillwater couple who was arrested in Logan County November 22 had a handwritten note in lieu of a license plate and tried to
pass off a pill bottle of crystals as a substance from Bath and Body
Works.
According to the police report, a Logan County deputy made contact with 18-year-old Abigail Jean Ward and 23-year-old Derrick
Lee Burris on I-35 when he noticed their truck didn’t have a license
plate. Burris, who was driving, told the deputy his paper tag had
blown off. He pointed to a handwritten sign in his back window that
said, “Lost Tag.”
The deputy asked Burris for his driver’s license, but he couldn’t
seem to find it. When the deputy asked him if he had a valid license
to drive, he said he believed so.
He was wrong.
Dispatch advised Burris’s license was suspended. The deputy
placed him under arrest and put him in the patrol car. Officers then
asked Ward to step out of the vehicle. She exited while holding two
bags.
During inventory of the vehicle, police found a pill bottle containing a white crystal substance. Burris told them it was crystallized
rock he had bought at Bath and Body Works for his feet, and he kept
it in a pill bottle because it was easier to carry that way.
In one of Ward’s bags, an officer found several pink pills that Burris identified as Adderall. He said he didn’t know who the pills belonged to. In her other bag, police found a large glass pipe with a
white burnt residue and a straw that had been manipulated into a shovel-like tool.
Ward said she didn’t know either of the items were in her purse, and she said they weren’t
hers. Ward and Burris were both arrested and transported to jail.
The crystal substance did not test positive for meth. Maybe Burris was just really into caring for his feet!
Burris is being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and driving
with license suspended. He was released on a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to

Authorities arrested Stroud man Jeremy Lee Aylor after he allegedly drove into a convenience store at 6 a.m. on November 23.
According to the affidavit, a Stroud officer noticed what appeared to be a disturbance at a convenience store in the 100 block
of W. Main. As he pulled into the parking lot, he saw a white vehicle driving through, and a store employee trying to talk to its
occupants. As the vehicle was rolling across the parking lot, a
backseat passenger jumped out of the vehicle. The officer could
hear yelling, but he was unable to tell what was being said.
The employee told the officer that the vehicle had just hit the
store. The people in the car were trying to leave, but she said she
was arguing with them about running into the building.
The officer stopped the vehicle and asked the driver, Aylor,
what had happened. Aylor told him his brakes weren’t working
right. He appeared to be very nervous and kept looking down toward the gear shift in the
vehicle.
Due to the man’s behavior, the officer walked his K-9 around the vehicle. The dog alerted
two different times.
Another officer arrived to assist, and they asked the occupants to exit the vehicle. One of the
officers patted down Aylor and felt a syringe in his pocket. He placed Aylor in handcuffs and
retrieved the syringe -- it was full of a clear liquid. In Aylor’s vehicle, police found two more
syringes containing a clear liquid under the gear shift.
An officer asked Aylor if the syringes were his. He said yes and told the officer his friends
didn’t know about them. When the officer asked him if he had a medical reason for having the
syringes, Aylor told him yes, he had diabetes. But when the officer asked him if the syringes
were full of insulin, Aylor said, “No, it will test as meth.”
Then what did diabetes have to do with it?
The officer placed Aylor under arrest and took him to jail. The liquid in the syringes fieldtested positive for meth.
Aylor is being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and unlawful
possession of drug paraphernalia. His bond was set at $5,000, and he is scheduled to appear
in court on January 8, 2015.

Hello to all, and Happy
Thanksgiving!
By the time you read this, you will have probably made all your
holiday travel plans, if you are going somewhere, or have people
coming to your home to celebrate. The roadways will be extra busy,
and with a lot of people traveling at the same time, the chances for
accidents also go way up. I’m going to give a few tips on how to
minimize your chances of being involved in an accident, and some
ways to help insure your holidays are safe.
Every year, we work a lot of accidents on people who are “running
late”. Speed plays a major role in accidents, as well as the severity
of an accident. Speed decreases reaction time, which a driver needs
to be able to react to anything that happens in front of them. What
is the best thing you can do to not be “running late”? Simply plan
your holiday travel a little in advance. You know what time you
and your family get off work, or get out of school, so plan your
departure time accordingly. Give yourself plenty of time for delays,
bathroom and snack stops, etc. Also, if you are running late, its
OK! The people you are going to see would rather you be late, than
not arrive at all because you were involved in an accident.
Another major factor in holiday accidents are a result of
celebrating, and then making a bad decision. I’m not going to tell
you not to enjoy your holiday, and if partaking in some egg nog or
other alcoholic drink is part of your celebration, that’s fine. Just
don’t decide to drive after you drink. Drinking and driving is a
decision, not an accident. Planning here goes a long way towards
a safe holiday. If you know you are going to drink, plan on staying
where you are, or have a designated driver.
Another thing you can do to stay safe is wear your seat belt. The
accident may not be your fault, and you may be doing everything
right, and could still end up in the hospital or worse, because you
didn’t have your seatbelt on. Even minor accidents can cause
significant damage to us if we are not properly restrained. Every
Trooper on the road has worked a fatality accident which we all
know in our heart would not have resulted in death had the person
been using a seatbelt. It takes no time to put on, but it may be the
most important thing you can do this holiday season.
To sum up, slow down and enjoy the holiday season! Plan ahead,
and use a designated driver or stay put if you use alcohol in your
celebrations. No one wants to spend the holidays in a hospital or
worse! Holidays are for celebration, so lets take care of ourselves
and each other.
