THE HEAT IS ON
A Stillwater teen eluded police after a dangerous high-speed chase through the streets of Stillwater last month, but was later caught when a
resident reported his hiding spot.
Braden Lee Rhoads, 18, was charged June 27
with attempting to elude, Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, Unlawful Possession of Controlled Drug with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Controlled Drug,
Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Operating a Motor Vehicle
Without a Valid Driver’s License, in Payne County District Court.
According to a press release by the Stillwater Police Department, On Friday,
June 16, at 1:44 p.m., detectives with the Stillwater Police Department’s (SPD)
Special Project Unit attempted to conduct a traffic stop at 14th and Perkins.
The suspect eluded officers and continued westbound on 14th at a high rate
of speed. The suspect turned back east on 12th Street and traveled through
various neighborhoods before striking a telephone pole in the area of 16th and
Springfield. The suspect continued towards Couch Park and then turned back
west on 12th Street. The pursuit was terminated due to the unsafe speeds
through city streets. The suspect was last seen traveling westbound on 10th
Street from Washington.
At 2:09 p.m., an observant resident called in on a suspicious male hiding in
the 1100 block of South Ridge. SPD officers responded and were able to locate
the suspicious male. The male was identified as the suspect from the pursuit.
Rhoads was arrested and transported to the SPD jail.
Officers located the crashed vehicle in the area of 1100 of S. Willis.
Bond for Rhoads was set at $75,000 and his preliminary hearing is set for July
3.

DNA MATCH HELPS SOLVE RAPE
AND KIDNAPPING CASE FROM 2007
On June 2, charges were filed against 40-yearold Isaias Barron in a rape case dating back to
2007.
In 2007, the Tulsa Police Department investigated a reported rape with the following details: The
victim stated that she was walking and was offered a ride by a man in a truck.
She did not know the man, but she felt safe because the truck looked nice and
clean. The victim reported that the man introduced himself as ‘Jose’ and offered
her money in exchange for sex. The victim stated that ‘Jose’ continued to attempt to persuade her to have sex with him for money, and she continued to tell
him no. She said that she became concerned when he was not taking a direct
route to where she wanted to go. She said that she tried to get out of the car
while at a stop light, and that ‘Jose’ reached across her and held her against the
seat, telling her that she wasn’t going anywhere. The victim reported that ‘Jose’
parked the truck and raped her while holding a knife.
The Tulsa Police Department was recently made aware of a CODIS hit in this
case. The DNA recovered from this case in 2007 matched to a known profile of
Isaias Barron. Barron had been previously arrested in July of 2020 for Attempted
Rape, First Degree Burglary, and Sexual Battery. In that case, the 83-year-old
victim reported that she was in her house when she heard the doorbell ring.
When she opened the door, the suspect forced his way into her home and
sexually assaulted her. That suspect was later identified as Barron, and he was
convicted in Tulsa County District Court after a jury trial and sentenced to 16
years in prison.
Barron was interviewed in prison by Special Victims Unit Detectives about the
2007 case. Barron denied ever having met the victim, denied ever picking up a
prostitute, and stated that he did not know how his DNA was on her. Barron is
now charged with 1st Degree Rape and Kidnapping in the 2007 case.
Barron remains in the Davis Correction Facility in Holdenville for his previous
conviction.

14 | JULY 2023 Presumed Innocent Until Proven Guilty LINCOLN COUNTY
A STICK IN THE MUD
A Shawnee man got a his SUV and a camper he allegedly stole stuck in a muddy pasture early last month in
attempt to escape capture.
Clinton Cernocky, 37, was charged June 16 with assault
and battery with a dangerous weapon, grand larceny, and
malicious injury to property over $1000, in Lincoln County
District Court.
According to the probable cause affidavit, early in the day on June 1, a Chandler police
officer was dispatched to 1800 block of East 1st Street in Chandler. The call was regarding
the theft of a camper trailer that had just occurred. The reporting person was the owner of
Double J Storage.
The owner reported that he arrived at work that morning and noticed a white Suburban in
his fenced storage lot. The Suburban was hooking up to a camper trailer belonging to a woman he knew to be renting a storage spot for it. He did not recognize the vehicle and went to
the lot and confronted a male person, who was outside of the vehicle. When the owner asked
the male what he was doing, the male got into the Suburban and started driving away. The
owner went to the gate and closed it. The male subject drove up to the gate just as the owner
shut it, but the male deliberately rammed the gate, drove through it with the camper in tow,
and almost hit the owner. The Suburban then drove east on Highway 66 towards Davenport.
All local law enforcement agencies were notified to be on the lookout for the vehicle.
The owner provided the officer with video surveillance of the theft and the assault.
Chandler Police Chief Matthew Mattheyer located parts of the camper on Sandy Lane
just south of Highway 66. Chief Mattheyer followed debris and located a gate that had been
rammed open at 3460 Road and 940 Road near Chandler. Vehicle tire tracks led south into
the pasture.
Chief Mattheyer followed the tracks and came across a white Suburban and camper trailer
stuck in a muddy area of the field. No one was in or around the vehicle and shoe tracks lead
south from the vehicle.
An investigator arrived at the location and photographed the vehicle and the camper trailer.
The SUV was identified by the make, model, and damage as the same Suburban that was
used to take the camper from Double J Storage in Chandler. The Suburban had no tag. The
VIN on the vehicle was identified as belonging to a woman from Tupelo, Oklahoma.
The Suburban’s motor was not running, but was still in drive. In the front driver’s seat was
a cell phone and a box of 9mm ammo. The investigator swabbed the phone for DNA. The
phone was on and receiving calls from a 405 area code phone number. He called the number
using another phone and spoke with a female. He told her that he had found a white Suburban
and a cell phone and was trying to figure out who it belonged to, to return it. He asked her who
drives the white Suburban and owns the phone she was just calling. She said Clint Cernocky.
The investigator then informed the woman that he was with the Lincoln County Sheriffs
Office and he needed to locate Clint. She promptly hung up the phone, and when he tried to
call her back, there was no answer.
Inside the SUV, the investigator found a Sac and Fox Black Hawk casino players card with
the name of Clint Cernocky on it. He collected the phone, player card, DNA swabs from the
phone, and box of ammo as evidence. The camper had extensive damage to the right front
and was still locked. Chandler Police requested a wrecker to recover the trailer and the Suburban was also impounded.
After reviewing the video surveillance provided by the owner, the investigator was able to
identify the subject as Clint Cernocky by visual comparison of his booking photo.
On June 5, Clint Cernocky was arrested on unrelated charges and was booked into the
Lincoln County Jail.
Bond for Cernocky was set at $20,000 and he was ordered back to court on July 20 for
his preliminary hearing. KIMBERLY
