A Stillwater man left the scene of an assault on May
8, but he later returned with an airgun and threatened
to shoot the victim and his mother.
Rodriguez Cortez Johnson Jr., 18, was arrested for
assault when an officer found the gun hidden in his vehicle.
According to the police report, Johnson and two
other men were involved in an assault and battery in
the 900 block of E. Third shortly after 8 a.m. Johnson
drove his accomplices away from the scene, but he later
returned by himself.
The victim told the officer Johnson used a “twohanded grip” to aim a black, semi-automatic pistol at him and his mom. He said
Johnson told the victim he would shoot the victim and his house. The victim’s
infant was inside the house at the time.
The victim believed the gun was real, and he was pretty sure that Johnson’s
threat was also real. He said he stood in front of his mom to protect her from
any gunfire.
The victim’s mom said she heard Johnson threaten her son, and she saw his
gun.
Johnson drove away from the scene, but it wasn’t long before police found
him in the 300 block of E. 18th Street. A black semi-automatic pistol was found
between the driver’s seat and center console.
According to the officer, the gun looked real and he thought it was a real firearm when he first saw it. When he looked at it a little closer, he realized it was
an airgun, but, any safety features such as an orange tip were not on the gun.
Johnson is being charged with two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon. He was released on a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on
June 12, 2015.

On Wednesday, May 20, members of the Stillwater
Police Department’s Special Operations Team served a
search warrant at 820 East Lynn Lane. The department’s
Criminal Investigation Unit obtained the search warrant as part of an ongoing investigation, for violation of
the sex offender registration act, involving Eric Thomas
Hurd, 44.
At the time the search warrant was served Hurd had an
outstanding felony arrest warrant through Payne County,
CF-2015-298, for Violation of a Zone of Safety by Entering a Park, After Former Felony Conviction. The arrest
warrant was obtained by the Patrol Division after officers
responded to a call of Hurd following a college age female and male at Boomer
Lake on May 10. The female and male reported Hurd was slowly following them
around the park in a blue pickup. He commented to them that he was watching
them and playing a game.
On Feb. 24, 2003, Eric Hurd was convicted of two counts of Rape and one
count of Burglary in Oklahoma County. Hurd is a lifetime registered aggravated
sex offender. He registered with the Stillwater Police Department in June, 2014.
He registered at 820 E. Lynn Lane.
In April, Stillwater Police learned that 820 E. Lynn Lane was within a protected
buffer zone of a daycare that was not previously known to the police department.
Hurd was sent a letter advising him he had to move to a new address. As of May
20, Hurd had failed to comply with the mandatory sex offender registration requirements.
According to Oklahoma Supreme Court Network records, Hurd has an extensive criminal history dating back to the early 90’s. He has convictions through
Payne County for charges of violating a protective order, harassing phone calls,
stalking, trespassing and disturbing the peace.
According to OSCN, in February of this year, Hurd’s mother filed for and was
granted a protective order against Hurd. Hurd was arrested in February for violating the protective order, his mother then requested the protective order be
dismissed.
During the early morning hours of May 17, a Patrol Officer contacted Hurd in
the 600 block of Tower Park. Hurd was driving a blue 2003 Toyota pickup. The
pickup was impounded for a traffic violation and Hurd was released from the
scene, as no arrest warrant had been issued at that time. The Patrol Officer did
note in his impound report that a gun holster was located in the vehicle.
Based on Hurd’s extensive criminal history, evidence that he may be armed
with a firearm, the domestic complaints by his mother and concern for her safety,
the Special Operations Team was utilized to take Hurd into custody. Hurd was
arrested without incident on May 20.

Chances are, while you are
reading this, it may be raining, has
been raining, or is about to rain
somewhere in Oklahoma! We are finally getting those much needed
showers to fill up ponds and lakes. Unfortunately, we are getting
most of it all at once, and we are having some major flooding! I’m
going to talk a little about the dangers that roadway flooding can
present, and some tips for avoiding them.
Every year that we have flooding, we get stories about motorists
who are stranded in water that has risen up over the roadway. The
news has the usual shot of one vehicle with its hazard lights on not
moving, followed by video of other vehicles still driving through
these flooded roads. The solution is very simple, if you don’t want
to be that vehicle that is stranded, don’t drive through standing
water! Most of the locations that typically flood over in heavy rains
are traditional places where this happens year after year. The
problem with this is that usually, the locals think since they’ve been
able to drive through it before, it shouldn’t be any problem now.
A lot of things can happen under water that we can’t see
though. Parts of the roadway could wash out, debris could be
covered up that can’t be seen, and other unseen hazards could
be present. All of these things can spell disaster for the person
who assumes it will be OK to drive through standing water on the
roadway.
Next, don’t drive around “Road Closed” signs. Every year in
these traditional flood areas, the public safety officials close the
roads for safety, and every year people drive around those signs
and end up needing rescued. Not only are those signs put up for
your safety, it is illegal to drive around them. They are Official
Traffic Control Devices, and as Oklahoma State Statute 47:11-201A
states: The driver of any vehicle shall obey the instructions of any
official traffic-control device...unless otherwise directed by a traffic
or police officer.
Last, be aware of your surroundings, so that you can find an
alternate route if needed. In today’s technology driven world, this
is easier than ever to do. Use that smart phone, tablet, or GPS
device to find a way around flooded areas. Also, when the potential
for floods can cause roads to be closed, give yourself extra time to
reach your destination, in case an alternate route is needed.
This spring has been a bounty of rain that Oklahoma has needed
for a few years, but with the good comes some potential bad in the
form of flooding. Now you’ll have some tips for avoiding any of
the pitfalls that inherently come with them! Don’t be that vehicle
they show on the news every year, flooded or swept away. Please
remember, TURN AROUND, DON’T DROWN

On February 24, 2015, Creek
County resident Kimberly Davis,
45, was reported missing by her
father to the Creek County Sheriff’s Office. OSBI agents, called
in by the Creek County Sheriff’s
Office, found skeletal remains in
Bristow two days later. An OSBI
forensic analyst extracted DNA
from the remains and compared
it to DNA from Davis’ father.
A match is now confirmed. Jimmy Moser, 29, has been
charged with her murder. He currently sits in the Osage
County jail on a separate murder complaint.

support from both parents and do not lose this right when a
parent leaves the home.
When children do not receive child support, they can:

same way as personal computers, potentially making them susceptible to similar
threats affecting computers connected to the Internet.
For youths, the internet often serves as a positive and powerful arena for socializing and learning. However, the use of the internet also brings about risks to their
safety, including the dangers of sexual solicitation, online harassment and bullying,
and exposure to illegal content. By discussing responsible socializing and communicating, parents -- regardless of whether they are technologically savvy -- can help
their kids make better decisions about online behavior.
Efforts to address cybercrime include activities associated with protecting networks and information, detecting criminal activity, investigating crime, and prosecuting criminals, . The Administration has taken significant steps to better protect
America against cyber threats and has developed a pragmatic and focused cybersecurity legislative proposal for Congress to consider. The proposed legislation is
focused on improving cyber-security for the American people, our Nation’s critical
infrastructure, and the Federal Government’s own networks and computers.

A Guthrie man who called police for help attacked EMT
workers when they showed up to take him to the hospital.
45-year-old Charlie William Paine was arrested May 14
because he continuously swung his cane at people who
were trying to help him.
Guthrie police responded to First and Mansur shortly
after noon because Paine called 911 asking for help. When
they arrived, they found Pane in the 400 block of N. Division. The man appeared to be disoriented. He was acting
a little paranoid, and would move “abruptly” toward any
noise he heard, according to the affidavit.
Several different vehicles drove past them, but Paine
seemed to think his son-in-law was in all of them.
Paine said he couldn’t breathe and his lower back was hurting. He agreed to go
to the hospital, but it didn’t mean he was going peacefully, though! When EMT
workers arrived and put the man on a stretcher, he started swinging his cane at
them.
After a brief struggle, an officer placed Paine in handcuffs. They escorted Paine
to the patrol car. Paine continued to be a pain in the butt for officers, and he refused police commands.
An officer took the man to jail, but Paine still wouldn’t calm down.
Police called an ambulance, and paramedics observed Paine’s heart rate and
blood pressure were super high, so he was transported to the emergency room.
While they were at the ER, the officer was informed Paine was under the influence of methamphetamine and marijuana.
Well, that helps explain it!
Paine is being charged with assault upon emergency medical technician and
resisting an officer. His bond was set at $10,000, and he is scheduled to appear
in court on June 25, 2015.

Burch.
According to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, texting while driving makes drivers 23 times more likely to be involved in a traffic
accident.
Governor Fallin was joined by members of the troopers’ families as she signed
the bill into law.
She says she hopes the law will save lives.
“My hope is that this bill does more than just change the law,” Fallin said. “As a
state, we need to change the way we think about texting while driving. The fact is
it’s dangerous. If we can get people to think about it that way, we can drive more
responsibly, save a lot of lives and make our roads much safer.”
The law makes texting while driving a primary offense, meaning police can pull
anyone who does it over and give them a $100 ticket.
Senator Ervin Yen says that making texting and driving a primary offense will
have a big impact.
“States with primary-enforcement laws saw an overall reduction of three percent in traffic fatalities,” he says. “For young drivers between 15 and 21, there was
an 11 percent reduction in fatalities. That’s huge.”
He says research shows states that only had secondary enforcement saw virtually no change.
“Primary enforcement saves lives,” says Yen.
Oklahoma is the 46th state to have a law banning texting while driving.
It has exceptions for certain emergency situations and specifies it will not apply
to devices operated in a voice-activated mode in which a driver’s hands would not
be needed to write, send or read a text message.
The law goes into effect Nov. 1.

Stroud man Karreem Windell Easley, 37,
wasn’t too pleased when another man gave
his girlfriend a ride to the store. He was so
pissed, in fact, that he grabbed a knife and
threatened to kill them both.
On May 17, shortly after 10 p.m., a Stroud
officer was dispatched to the 100 block of
E. Main due to a fight in progress. When he
arrived, he saw another man holding down
Easley. The man screamed that Easley had a
knife and was trying to stab him.
According to the police report, the officer
found the knife on the ground near the men. The officer separated
the two and placed Easley in handcuffs until he could figure out what
was going on.
Easley said the man had attacked him for no reason.
But, was that what really happened? Not according to the man and
Easley’s girlfriend. The man said he gave Easley’s girlfriend a ride
to the store. When they returned, she went into the apartment she
shared with Easley. The man said he heard Easley yelling and choking the woman. He tried to get inside the apartment, but the door
was locked.
Eventually, Easley walked out of the apartment. He was holding his
girlfriend by the neck with one hand, and he had a knife in the other.
Easley then swung the knife at the man and told him he was going to
kill him. The man wrestled Easley to the ground and made him drop
the knife.
Easley’s girlfriend said he accused her of sleeping with the man
who gave her a ride to the store. He started yelling at her and grabbed
her by the throat. She said he then pulled out a pocketknife and told
her he was going to kill her.
The woman had several scratches on her throat. The side of her
face was also swollen.
The officer placed Easley under arrest and transported him to jail.
Easley is being charged with two counts of assault with a dangerous
weapon. His bond was set at $10,000, and he is scheduled to appear
in court on June 8, 2015.
