A Cushing man found passed out in his running
vehicle was taken to jail after police found a sizable
amount of meth in his vehicle.
A Yale officer found 30-year-old Danny Joe Hopkins
passed out at Quay and McElroy in Cushing shortly
after 8:30 p.m. on February 14.
According to the police report, the officer had received calls about a man driving through yards on
Rockinghorse Lane in Yale. He was also told that the
driver of the vehicle was going to dump some trash on
the county road.
The Yale officer followed the reports into Cushing.
When he found Hopkins passed out in his car, the man had three plastic baggies containing a white crystal substance and several empty baggies clutched
in his right hand.
The officer took the plastic bags of of the man’s hands, and he placed Hopkins in investigative detention. Once Hopkins was in the patrol car, he was
out again- a Cushing officer arrived to take Hopkins to jail.
When he switched police cars, Hopkins was unsteady on his feet, his eyes
were glassy, and his speech was slurred. The officer took him to jail and tested the substance in the baggies. It tested positive for methamphetamine.
Hopkins is being charged with unlawful possession of controlled dangerous substance methamphetamine with intent to distribute after former conviction of a felony, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and public intoxication. He was released on a $40,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in
court on March 20, 2015.

With this most recent ice and snow storm
that gripped Oklahoma, there obviously were
some significant obstacles to safe driving. One
that I have noticed, that doesn’t really get a lot of attention, is the visibility that
is obstructed by iced over windshields and windows on vehicles. I’m going to
touch on some of that, to try to raise some awareness about it, and give some
tips to help us stay safe.
We’ve all seen it...a vehicle coming down the road with just a small hole
scraped in the windshield so the driver could see the road. Every time I see it, I
cringe! The law that governs this is Oklahoma State Statute 47:12-404.C, which
states: “No person shall drive any motor vehicle with any sign, poster, other
non-transparent material, or debris, including but not limited to snow, ice, or
frost upon the front windshield or the side wings, or side or rear windows......
which obstructs, obscures, or impairs the driver’s clear view of the highway
ahead or to either side or of any intersecting highway.” What this means to
the everyday driver is that the little hole you scraped to drive by, just won’t cut
it! While compliance is the goal, the reason is safety! Obviously the chances of
an accident drastically increase as visibility decreases...so why limit our vision
to just a small hole out the front windshield?
There are several ways to clear those windshields, both mechanically and
chemically. A simple ice scraper has been the preferred method for as long as
most people can remember. They are inexpensive, and easy to find. Another
method is simply to go out 10 minutes before you leave, start your car up,
and get the defroster going! When the windows are clear, you are good to go.
Still another way is to obtain any number of chemical de-icing sprays that are
available at most stores. Don’t pour hot water on your windows, as the change
in temperatures can cause your window to crack or break!
While we are talking about it, lets not forget about those side and rear
widows. A significant percentage of accidents happen while backing, so it
stands to reason that we need to be able to see out our back glass as well as
the front. Side windows are no different, no one wants to be struck by a vehicle
they couldn’t see when they pull into an intersection. After you finish with
those side windows, go ahead and hit those side mirrors as well!
All of these suggestions simply take a little extra time, and sometimes money,
but the time and money pale in comparison to the impact on time and money
that an accident will have on you, or others. As a safe, courteous driver, you
owe it to yourself and your fellow drivers! Thanks for reading, buckle up and

An Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office deputy noticed a pickup truck
make an unsafe lane change in the
northbound lane of I-35 near N.E.
122nd Street. The deputy stopped
the vehicle and spoke with the driver,
46-year old Rafael Armando Rocha,
of Rowland Heights, California.
While speaking with Rocha he gave
the deputy permission to search his
truck. On the rear passenger side the
deputy noticed a black suitcase, and
inside the suitcase the deputy found 25-kilos of cocaine (55lbs).
Rocha was booked into the Oklahoma County jail on a complaint of Trafficking
cocaine base
On February 16, 2015 Rocha posted bond of $25,000.00, and has been released
from jail.

Kellyville woman Jennifer Carlene Metcalfe, 32, was caught
with counterfeit checks, methamphetamine and a pipe after
she was arrested for allegedly stealing a man’s trailer right off
his property.
February 11 was definitely not her best day.
According to the police report, a man contacted Sapulpa
police and said that someone had just stolen something from
in front of his house. He said he was in his residence when he
saw a woman, later identified as Metcalfe, speed off with his
trailer.
Police located the stolen trailer and the alleged thief in the 900 block of North
Ross.
After an officer placed her under arrest, Metcalfe admitted to taking the trailer,
but she said the owner had given her permission to take it, but she didn’t know the
owner’s name.
Police conducted an inventory of Metcalfe’s vehicle. They found checks and personal mail belonging to a man, and a set of checks that were “counterfeited from a
legitimate account but fake name.”
Metcalfe claimed she didn’t know why the checks and mail were in her vehicle.
The man whose name was on the checks and mails said he didn’t know Metcalfe
and she definitely didn’t have permission to take his mail.
During booking, an officer searched Metcalfe and found a glass smoking pipe
and a bag containing a white crystal-like substance that tested positive for meth.
Metcalfe is being charged with grand larceny, two counts of knowingly concealing stolen property, forgery in the second degree, unlawful possession of controlled
dangerous substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Her bond
was set at $30,500, and she is scheduled to appear in court on March 3, 2015.

After a Meridian man slid into a school bus with
his vehicle, his wife went on a rampage and allegedly threatened to kill a police officer.
Marcus Monroe Marshall, 53, and Connie Dale
Marshall, 60, were both arrested February 23 after
Marcus Marshall hit an icy patch on the road, lost
control of his vehicle and ran right into the bus.
According to the affidavit, a state trooper saw the
accident happen on Charter Oak, east of Pine. The
driver drove away from the accident, then stopped
his vehicle, got out and walked back to the scene.
The trooper approached him and asked for his
license. The man said he didn’t have one, because
he needed to retake his driver’s test and hadn’t had
the time. The trooper placed him under arrest.
He then noticed a woman walking up to them
-- Marshall identified the woman as his wife. The
trooper told the woman her husband was going to
jail. He also told her to call someone to come get
her.
She told the trooper she was going to go sit in the
truck. When he told her no for her own safety, she
told him, “It’s already started.”
She then took off walking toward the wrecked
truck.
When the trooper called after her, she said,
“Touch me, and I’ll f------ kill you.”
When the officer grabbed her hands, she started
screaming, “ Help me, Jesus, help me! G--d---,
you’re an idiot.” He told her to stop resisting, and
he eventually placed her under arrest and placed her in the patrol car with her
husband.
The trooper overheard her tell her husband that she threatened to kill the
trooper, but she wasn’t serious.
Connie Marshall is being charged with obstructing an officer. She was released
on a $1,500 bond.
Marcus Marshall is being charged with driving without a valid license, failure
to carry security verification and failure to reduce speed when lawfully required.
He was released on a $1,000 bond.
They are both scheduled to appear in court on May 14, 2015.

A Chandler man with a warrant made a scene at
the public library when police arrived to take him
in for an outstanding warrant.
So much for peace and quiet at the library!
On February 13, a Chandler officer was advised
that wanted man Damon Andre Towns, 46, was at
the Chandler Library. He went to the library and
sure enough, there was Towns. When Towns saw
the officer, he took off walking toward the back
of the library. When the officer told him to stop,
Towns asked why.
The man then walked behind a row of bookcases
and put two cellphones and a pack of cigarettes on
a shelf, according to the affidavit. While the man
was trying to hide the cigarettes on the shelf, the officer approached him and told
him he was under arrest for a warrant.
As the officer went to handcuff the man, Towns tried to jerk his wrist away. He
also tried to trip the officer, but he was unsuccessful.
The officer told Towns to stop resisting; he replied, “I’m not resisting you.”
A lady in the library told Towns, “Yes, you are resisting, and you need to stop.”
But, Towns didn’t listen to the wise woman. The officer attempted to get Towns
handcuffed and out the door, but the man continued to struggle and resist.
Eventually, Towns was placed in handcuffs -- but not before he tried to bite an
officer.
When they made it to the patrol car, Towns still wasn’t going down without a
fight -- he kicked officers and refused to stick his feet in the car.
After officers picked up Towns and placed him in the car, the officer returned
to the library to retrieve the man’s property. The cigarette pack Towns tried to
unsuccessfully hide contained a clear plastic bag with a white crystal substance.
The substance field-tested positive for meth.
Towns is being charged with possession of controlled dangerous substance, assault on police officer and resisting an officer. His bond was set at $6,000, and he
is scheduled to appear in court on March 19, 2015.
