UNDER THE COVER OF
DARKNESS
A Stillwater man thought he could get away with assaulting a woman under the cover of darkness, but he
was very much mistaken.
Jacob Colton Dobson, 26, was charged February 27
with sexually battery, in Payne County District Court.
According to a Stillwater Police Department (SPD)
press release, on Friday, February 16, at 2:19 a.m.,
SPD responded to a report of a sexual assault near
OSU Theta Pond, located at 1000 W. University. The victim, whose identity is being protected, reported that a young white male assailant approached her from behind, grabbed
her, and sexually groped her. The victim fought off the assailant, who was last seen fleeing
south from the area.
Since the incident, SPD has asked for help from the community, actively investigating
the case, collecting evidence from the scene, and working diligently to obtain security
footage from nearby residents and businesses.
On Thursday, February 22, SPD detectives were able to identify Dobson as the suspect in relation to this case. Detectives began searching for Dobson. After several hours,
detectives were able to arrest Dobson without incident at 9:03 p.m.
“While this represents a significant development in the case, it remains ongoing, and
SPD is committed to ensuring a thorough investigation,” the press release added. “We
ask the community to remain vigilant of their surroundings, especially during late-night
and early morning hours, and to walk in groups whenever possible for added safety.”
SPD reminds the public that if you ever find yourself in a situation where you feel threatened or unsafe, do not hesitate to call 911.
Bond for Dobson was set at $100,000. KC

AROUND THE NATION
News Flash! Trucks don’t surf!
A New York man was arrested and charged in
Florida after authorities caught him driving his pickup truck into the ocean at New Smyrna Beach, just
south of Daytona Beach, early on Tuesday.
A video shared by the Volusia Sheriff’s Office
shows a person driving a white pickup truck into the
water — sometimes driving alongside the waves and other times against it — and
even attempting to perform a donut.
The driver — later identified as 49-year-old Jason Brzuszkiewicz, of Bridgeport,
N.Y. — is then seen off the water chatting with deputies, who informed him the
beach was closed due to high tides.
Bodycam video also shows Brzuszkiewicz attempting to hide from a camera by
covering part of his face with a black baseball cap. He then tells an officer that he’s
not really the one to blame. “It’s not my fault truck don’t surf!” he says.
“Yeah, but you shouldn’t be driving on the beach when the gates are all closed,”
one deputy responds.
“I thought I was in England,” Brzuszkiewicz says.
When the deputy confirms they are not in England, Brzuszkiewicz’s response gets
even more colorful.
“We are not in Kansas, anymore?” he asks, using the famous Judy Garland line
from 1939’s MGM classic “The Wizard of Oz” — before laughing at his own joke.
According to the sheriff’s office, Brzuszkiewicz “drove around a closed gate
marked DO NOT ENTER and
accessed the beach in New
Smyrna Beach.”
He was ultimately charged
with a violation of the Volusia
County Ordinance — failure to
pay vehicular access fee — and
then taken to the Volusia County Branch Jail on a $200 bond.

We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money
or favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting officer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.
Thank you and God Bless

Presumed Innocent Until Proven Guilty 13 | MARCH 2024 LINCOLN COUNTY
REAR WINDOW
An Enid woman is facing felony charges after she allegedly lied to deputies about the whereabouts of fugitive
hiding inside a Chandler residence.
Stevie Staton, 23, was charged February 2 with felony
harboring a fugitive from justice, in Lincoln County District
Court.
According to the probable cause affidavit, on January
30, deputies with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office arrived
at the 400 block of E. 14th St in Chandler in search of Dakota Beaver, who had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. One deputy went to the front door
and another went around to the back of the house.
When the deputy knocked on the front door, it swung open. He announced his presence
and asked someone to come to the door.
A woman, who was later identified as Stevie Staton, came to the front door. The deputy
advised Staton he was there to arrest Beaver on an outstanding warrant. Staton stated she
was aware that Beaver had a warrant and told the deputy Beaver was not inside the residence.
The deputy advised Staton that he had reason to believe Beaver was inside the residence
and that if she lied to him, she would go to jail for obstructing an officer in the performance of
duties. He again asked Staton if Beaver was inside the residence. She again stated he was not
and that he had left the day prior.
The deputy then heard the deputy at the back of the house transmit on the radio that Beaver
was attempting to exit the residence through a window. Upon seeing the deputy, Beaver pulled
himself back into the bedroom.
Deputies went to the bedroom where they discovered Beaver hiding on the floor beside the
bed. He was taken into custody and handcuffed.
Staton was then placed under arrest, handcuffed, and escorted to a patrol vehicle.
Both Staton and Beaver were transported to the Lincoln County Jail without incident. Bond
for Staton was set at $1500 and she is scheduled to appear in court on April 11.

CELL PHONE TO
JAIL CELL
A Kingfisher woman’s plan to steal a car was
foiled because the rightful owner left her cell
phone in the vehicle.
Ashely Floyd, 38, was charged February 5 with
larceny of a motor vehicle, in Logan County District Court.
According to the Guthrie Police Department,
they, along with Logan County deputies, were
able to recover a stolen vehicle and arrest the perpetrator.
Dispatch received a call at approximately 6:53 p.m. on February 4 about a vehicle that was stolen on the east side of Pine. The thief left the scene westbound.
The owner of the vehicle told dispatch that her phone was still in the vehicle and
was able to track the movements through GPS on the phone.
A short time later, a Logan County deputy spotted the vehicle. The deputy and
a Guthrie Police Sergeant stopped the vehicle on Highway 33 at Commerce.
Floyd was taken into custody and booked into the Logan County Detention
Center.
Bond for Floyd was set at $10,000 and she is to next appear in court on March
15.
