the devil inside
Stillwater man Christopher Duane Huntsman, 31, allegedly tried to “shoot the devil”
out of his close friend after a 3-day drug
binge.
The victim told police Huntsman is sometimes possessed by a demon. The victim
thought he himself might also be possessed,
so he trusted his friend’s decision to shoot
him if he was.
According to reports, the victim and Huntsman spent three days doing meth outside
of Stillwater before returning to Huntsman’s
residence around 5:30 a.m. on April 15. The
victim said he was asleep when he woke up
to a burning feeling in his legs. Once he realized Huntsman had shot him in both of his thighs, he said he begged the man
to stop “trying to save him.”
The man said Huntsman briefly pointed the 9mm handgun at his head before throwing it in the closet.
Huntsman was taken into custody during a traffic stop at approximately
3 p.m. near the intersection of Walnut Street and Seventh Avenue. He had
taken the victim to the emergency room.
The victim declined to press charges against Huntsman for assault with a
deadly weapon. He said Huntsman had been one of his best friends since
high school.
The suspect’s roommate told officers that Huntsman had a good job and
often spent his time off doing cocaine, meth and steroids.
Huntsman is being charged with possession of firearm after former conviction of a felony. His bond was set at $20,000, and he is scheduled to appear
in court on May 7, 2018.

drumright man charged with
second-degree murder
Drumright man Jeffery Ray Keeton, 41,
is facing charges of second-degree murder
for allegedly hitting a man in the head with a
hammer on December 5.
Charges were filed April 2 in Creek County
District Court.
The affidavit states that a Drumright officer
was notified that a man was in the hospital
due to injuries that had occurred a few days
earlier. The man’s family told police that he
had been assaulted at a residence in the
100 block of E. Maple, which was across
from his brother’s house. The man later died
from his injuries.
The officer spoke with the man’s brother and his wife. The wife said
the victim had been at their home on December 5, but he was drunk
and her husband made him leave. The brother said the victim later
returned and said he had been in a fight.
The couple’s neighbor told them the victim had been disrespectful,
so he hit him in the head with a hammer.
The officer spoke with the neighbor, identified as Keeton. He said
the victim came to his house, and he found the man sitting next to his
cousin with his feet on a mattress. Keeton said the victim was rubbing
on the woman and he asked him to leave. The victim refused, and
Keeton said he hit the man in the jaw with his fist. He denied using a
hammer.
After receiving the medical report that the victim died from brain
death, officers went back to the residence on December 12 with a
search warrant. They found two hammers.
The officers asked Keeton to identify which hammer he used. He
continued to deny using the hammer, but eventually admitted to using the weapon to hit the victim. He said he had a right to defend his
home.
Witnesses later told police that Keeton wasn’t happy when he
walked into his home to find the victim sitting with his feet on a mattress. The men began arguing and things started to escalate. At one
point, Keeton grabbed his hammer and hit the victim in the head.
One witness said she told Keeton, “I think you hurt that kid.” He allegedly replied, “Well, he should have got his feet off my furniture and
not disrespected me.”
Keeton is being charged with murder in the second degree. His
bond was set at $100,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court
on May 4, 2018.

Two robbery suspects lost their loot to the wind after a holdup at a travel
agent’s office, police video shows.
Surveillance footage shows money dropping from the pockets of an unidentified man’s pants as the robbers flee the travel agency in Droylsden, northern
England, according to police. Gusty winds then scatter the bills in the street
and foil attempts to collect it. Greater Manchester Police released footage of
the bungled getaway online. “This duo threatened innocent people working
in the travel agents and should know their actions are utterly unacceptable,”
Detective Constable Phil Scargill said via a statement. “They took every step
to secure the money in the shop, but left the stolen notes in their wake as they
fled from the scene,” Scargill added. It’s unclear how much money was stolen,
or whether any was recovered.
Here’s a volatile combination: nudity, guns, drugs and pizza. At least for Phillip Engle, the 27-year-old man who found himself in a not-so-happy situation
at Happy’s Pizza in Muskegon Charter Township, Michigan. Engle, who lives
next door, allegedly showed up at the pizzeria wearing just a towel with his
three young children in tow. According to the police incident report, Engle was
carrying a gun, and he used it to bang on the glass door until it shattered. The
gun then allegedly discharged, and police found a bullet casing lodged in the
door’s metal frame. Officers who responded to the scene say they found Engle
on his porch with a handgun. He threw the gun in the yard when ordered to
drop it. Later he told them that he had three loaded guns in his home, which
they confiscated for safekeeping. An employee at Happy’s Pizza told an officer
from the Muskegon Township Police Department that when Engle was at the
shop, he yelled, “No one will help me,” and “No one will feed my kids!” He also
allegedly said, “I’m trippin’ out!” Engle reportedly told police that he had earlier
consumed four hits of LSD. One of Engle’s young children told officers that
her father had also shot the dashboard of their car because it wouldn’t stop
beeping. They found a spent casing on the dashboard and what appeared to
be a bullet hole. According to Fox 17, Engle’s wife said she took out a personal
protection order from him. Engle was arraigned on four misdemeanor charges:
malicious destruction of property worth $200 to $1,000, careless discharge of
a firearm, reckless use of a firearm and possession of a firearm while under the
influence.
Imagine if Walter White of “Breaking Bad” had driven around wearing a hat
that read, “Meth.”
A man was sporting a beanie with the word “Weed” on it when he was pulled
over for a lane change no-no near La Pine, Ore. When the trooper explored
further, he found 6 pounds of weed worth $15,000 hidden in the car, according
to a police news release. Now, instead of a routine traffic violation, 32-year-old
Ali Reza Tabibnejad, of Missoula, Mont., faces charges of unlawful possession
and delivery of a controlled substance. This wouldn’t be the first case of a
suspect graphically telegraphing a crime. When Bryan Wendler, of Marathon
County, Wisc., was arrested on charges of drunken driving last year, he wore a
T-shirt that read, “Been Drinking? Free Breathalyzer Test: Blow Here.” An arrow
pointed at his crotch.

We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money
or favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting officer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.
Thank you and God Bless

life is a highway
A 36-year-old Guthrie man led officers on
a high-speed pursuit from Logan County into
Edmond on April 13.
Not surprisingly, Charles Edward Smedes
had active warrants for his arrest.
According to the affidavit, a Logan County
deputy spotted a red truck sitting at the red
light near I-35 at Waterloo around 10 p.m.
The driver of the vehicle kept revving its tires.
The deputy checked the vehicle’s information
and was advised it was possibly stolen.
The deputy followed the truck while waiting
for dispatch to confirm the vehicle was stolen.
The driver of the truck took off toward I-35,
despite the deputy’s blaring siren and flashing lights. The deputy pursued the truck and
used his PA system to tell the driver to stop.
The driver, later identified as Smedes, refused
and kept on going.
During the chase, Smedes drove recklessly and endangered other motorists as he weaved in and out of traffic. Other drivers had to slam on their
brakes to avoid hitting the man.
Smedes drove in excess of 95 mph down I-35. As the pursuit continued
south, Edmond officers joined in trying to stop the man. Smedes exited off
I-35 onto Memorial Road and turned east. Edmond officers tried to stop the
truck with a couple of tactical vehicle interceptions, but they didn’t work. A
third TVI, however, caused the truck to roll over.
Officers were able to get Smede out of the truck and put him in handcuffs
at approximately 10:18 p.m. An officer put him in the patrol car.
During the arrest, officers noticed the man had a small bag of meth on him.
When he was in the patrol car, he managed to get the meth out of his pocket
and eat it.
The man was transported to the hospital, where he was cleared of any
injuries. He was then booked into the Logan County Jail.
Smedes is being charged with possession of stolen vehicle, eluding an officer and reckless driving. His bond was set at $20,000, and he is scheduled
to appear in court on May 24, 2018.

Custer County -- Saturday, April 7th, 2018,
a Clinton Public Schools teacher and her husband drove to the Clinton Police Department
where she confessed to having a sexual relationship with one of her 15-year-old students.
The Clinton Police Department requested
OSBI special agents assist with the investigation. OSBI agents interviewed Keri Hoffman,
35, and collected the information about the
crimes. Hoffman used Facebook messenger
to communicate with the teenage boy and
to set up locations for sexual contact. She
admitted to having sex with the boy numerous times since March 30, 2018, inside her
car in Washita County and inside her father’s
detached garage in Custer County. Hoffman went on to say that she took a
group of students to the Capitol to participate in the teacher walkout. The victim was part of that group. Hoffman picked him up first and dropped him off
last, having sex with him each time. After an OSBI special agent interviewed
the victim, agents arrested Hoffman at 329 N. 24th in Clinton and booked
her into the Custer County jail. She is being charged with Facilitating Sexual
Conduct or Communication with Minor by Use of Technology, which carries
up to 10 years in prison or up to a $10,000 fine; two counts of Second Degree
Rape, each carries up to 15 years in prison; and with Pattern of Criminal Offenses, which carries up to 2 years or a fine of up to $25,000. Her bond was
reduced to $30,000.

Presumed Innocent Until Proven Guilty 19 | MAY 2018 LOGAN COUNTY
Crescent Man Sentenced to 33 Months in Prison
for Cyberstalking Public Sc hool Teacher
Troy Allen Martin, 46, of Crescent, has been
sentenced to 33 months in federal prison for
cyberstalking, announced Robert J. Troester,
Acting United States Attorney for the Western
District of Oklahoma.
On October 3, 2017, a federal grand jury
indicted Martin on two counts of cyberstalking. He pleaded guilty to one of those counts
on November 28, 2017, before United States
District Judge Stephen P. Friot.
According to court records, Martin met an
Oklahoma public school teacher (who did not
live in Crescent) through a dating website. After
a brief romantic relationship, he acquired nude photographs of her, which
he used to extort money from her. His texts included: “So how much is it
worth not to send [the] pictures?” The teacher responded: “Please don’t
do this to me.” Martin wrote: “No u hurt me so now I want something
for it.” The teacher asked Martin what he wanted, and he texted back:
“Money.”
At first, he demanded $100,000; he ultimately extorted $50,000 from
her. Martin threatened to send the nude pictures to the teacher’s school
and family. He also threatened to post them on YouTube and Facebook
and to send them to her realtor and to otherwise thwart the sale of her
home.
In addition to threatening to disseminate nude pictures of the teacher,
Martin repeatedly harassed her through constant phone calls and text
messages, sometimes using spoofed phone numbers. He threatened repeatedly to call her family members during the night on an untraceable
number. He also threatened physical harm to her family through text messages, such as: “I will hire someone if u know what I mean[.] I have money.”
In a statement to the court, the teacher stated that her life began to be
consumed by trying to placate Martin so he would not disseminate her
nude photos and ruin her career and reputation. She said she felt like his
puppet and was “petrified.”
On April 24, 2018, Judge Friot sentenced Martin to 33 months’ imprisonment. At the sentencing hearing, the court took into consideration Martin’s having engaged in similar conduct with other women. In adjudging
his sentence, Judge Friot stated society must know that this type of criminal behavior can result in imprisonment.
In addition to the 33-month sentence, Judge Friot ordered Martin to pay
$50,000 in restitution to the victim, to pay a $5,000 fine, and to serve three
years of supervised release after his prison term.
This case is the result of an investigation conducted by the FBI.
