A “vehicle vs. house collision” in Stillwater may have ended up with
a broken wall and door, but it sent a 57-year-old Perkins man to jail.
On September 12 around 8:41 p.m., a Stillwater police officer was
dispatched to a vehicle accident in the 600 block of East 14th. Dispatch told him it was vehicle versus house collision. When the officer
arrived, he saw a vehicle that had crashed into the front of a residence.
According to the affidavit, the wall on the front of the house had
been pushed into the living room area and the bricks and front door
were damaged. The vehicle was still running and a man was slumped
over in the driver’s seat.
The officer tried to open the car door, but the doors were locked. He
knocked on the window; the driver looked at him, but didn’t unlock
the doors. Even with the windows rolled up, the officer could smell a strong odor of alcohol.
The officer was then forced to break the rear passenger window to get inside the vehicle.
After unlocking the doors, officers reached in and put the car in park and took the keys out of
the ignition.
The driver was identified as Michael Keith Ives. He wouldn’t respond to questions, and
officers had to help him out of his seatbelt. The possible cause of the wreck was found in the
passenger floorboard: an empty bottle of vodka.
Ives didn’t appear to know what had happened, and he couldn’t stand without assistance.
Officers had to almost carry him to the patrol car. Once they were at the jail, Ives finally
started responding.
Sorta.
He would answer questions from the detention officer, but when the arresting officer asked
him about the state’s test, he would pretend to be asleep. Another officer walked into the
booking area and told a joke. The officer saw that Ives was smiling, and he asked him if he
thought the joke was funny. He laughed.
When the officer asked him again about the state’s breath test again, Ives pretended to be
asleep.
According to the affidavit, Ives had two other convictions for DUI.
At least he still has his sense of humor!
Ives is being charged with operating a motor vehicle whole under the influence of alcohol
and driving under revocation. He was released on a $2,000 bond and is scheduled to appear
in court on November 3, 2014.

DISTURBING THE PEACE
A Maysville man thought he could get
away with using his former roommate’s
name after getting busted for DWI, but his
mug in OK Jailbirds gave his ploy away.
According to probable cause affidavit,
Dylan Ashley, 22, was arrested by an OHP
trooper on August 9 for driving impaired.
Ashley did not have a photo ID on him.
But instead of giving the trooper his real
name, he gave his name as Blake Bergen
and Bergen’s birthdate.
How did Ashley know Bergen’s
information? Ashley was at one time
Bergen’s roommate in Norman.
Ashley was processed into the Garvin County Jail as Bergen.
Lo and behold, a couple of weeks later, September’s edition of OK
Jailbirds is produced and was in stores. Bergen’s mother informed him that
his name was in OK Jailbirds, but with his soon-to-be ex-buddy’s photo.
He got a copy, and sure enough, Ashley’s goofy mug shot was in the Garvin
County data, but the name under the mug said Blake Bergen, DWI.
The real Bergen went to the Garvin County Sheriff’s Office immediately to
clear his name. Bergen proved his identity and DPS was notified.
On Sept. 16, Ashley was booked into the Garvin County Jail, again, on
an outstanding Okmulgee County warrant, this time using his own name.
When questioned about the Bergen incident, Ashley admitted he gave the
trooper Bergen’s name and birthdate instead of his own. He said he knew
Bergen well, and that he lived with him and his parents in the past. He
added he had intended to pay for the costs, but didn’t realize the identifiers
and latent prints were used by law enforcement to identify offenders.
Ashley was charged with felony false personation the next day. The
charges of DWI that were under Bergen’s name have been corrected in court
records and are now under Ashley’s name. Ashley is scheduled to appear in
court on October 24 at 10 am for his preliminary hearing.
Will the real Dylan Ashley please come forward?
around the state
Ashley

What you’re saying about this on...
Brian B: Legalize for adults 21 and over
Bob A: No logical reason to keep it illegal
Alissa W: Legal for all. Smoke a bowl and relax
Maria E: Well I for one say medical use only. No need to have people use who other
wise would never try it.
Lenis B: No way would I vote for it, we have enough problems.
Larry S: Oklahoma definitely needs the tax revenue. Public school system and infrastructure (i.e. roads and bridges) would be a major beneficiary so I say yes
Zach G: Don’t legalize, decriminalize.
Jean Ann W: Legalize then regulate like alcohol
Andy C: We sure do need the tax revenue!!! Let’s go ahead and add meth and prostitution too!! How about get more people to work....THAT would generate tax revenue.
Bunch of degenerates.
JoNelle B: I would vote no on legalization of marijuana. Flat out no
Charlene J: I would vote for it. I am a registered voter, and legalize it for 21 and
older and medicinal as need per age under doctors orders.
Chris Jo: Medical yes and I mean true medical not people who see this quack doc
and goes I have glaucoma write me a weed script. To all who says we need a tax revenue
what about all the gambling thing that hasn’t helped our kids or anything else in any way.
It will be worse when it is legal for all to smoke just look at what has happened in Colorado.
Yes you hear all about this and that that has been good but what about the bad that doesn’t
want to get published people we don’t need it legal for everyone. It’s not a smart thing
Katrina R: I hate how people say its better than other drugs and etc. Doesn’t matter its still bad and addictive. Just because it wouldnt hurt as bad to chop a finger off as it
would a leg doesn’t mean you should chop a finger off.
Nickel C: Vote yes for all uses......pain relief....makes you hungry when you dont or
cant eat....eases symptoms of seisures...plant form or oil...legalize it all!
Samantha LeeAnn E: I do not care to vote, but I would vote for this. I would
vote yes for all purposes.
Scott T: Legalize it. Regulate it like tobacco and alcohol. Make it a new tax revenue
that this state needs for its schools. No reason not to. Too much focus on it being illegal
anyway. Especially when a woman who has 30 bucks worth gets 12 years while a local police chief gets a 10 year deferred sentence for trafficking narcotics.
Charlotte G: The medical crap is all bologna aka bulls**t
Dustin G: Well seeing how Oregon and Georgia are about to make marijuana legal
for recreational use, I say yes. Colorado has already gave millions to schools and we could
use that money to build storm shelters for schools.
Mike M: I moved to colorado for the treatment of Lyme’s I hope it passed soon so I
can go home so yes I will vote and make a 12 hour drive to do it when it gets on the ballet
Isidro V: Kinda like the gas tax in oklahoma it was to help with bridges and road
work. But all roads and bridges suck here. It’s all talk anymore! Never used for what it is
intended in the first place.
Brian S: Legal or not. People are still going to grow it, smoke it, and sell it. I don’t
care for it personally, but some extra tax revenue and decriminalization might be worth it.
It would free up some space in the prisons for more violent crimes. Just a thought. There
are pros and cons both ways.
Michael M Jr.: Yes. It help me stop drinking and taking a lot of med. Oif/oef vet.
Joy N: I’ve never smoke in my life. 60 years of it but I still would vote yes. It has nothing to do with pot heads. Just like if the question was about drinking. I don’t drink but I
would vote yes.
Misty P: I don’t smoke it, but would vote yes to both. I don’t think it’s as bad as drinking. Oklahoma could us the tax money. Just make sure the money is handled properly.
Joey H: By saving up spaces in jails for actual violent crimes caused by ALCOHOL!!
Lol it would also save us tax payers money as you know we gotta pay to feed all prisoners
and your salary hang rapist, free the smokers, and jail the REAL criminals
Kimberly M: I would vote no.. I think they need to make tobacco illegal also. It
only hurts us. I cannot think of one good thing tobacco or marijuana does for us other than
make the state officials more money. Right now marijuana makes officials money by fines
but if legalized would really line their pockets.
Joseph P: 100 % yes I was recently arrested for having a small amount of weed in my
apartment I was kidnapped and held hostage overnight and my family extorted for almost
$1200 if this happened just a few hundred miles west in Colorado I would not have been
breaking the law and nothing would have happened
Leesa M: As a MS patient I will tell you that yes it does do people good just as good
as say the legal narcotics like loratabs.
Laci H: I’m sorry but I’d say alcohol is the “gateway drug”... But it’s legal so its more
socially acceptable..... And that legalize meth comment up there ^ made me laugh. You
have apparently never seen the difference in a person on meth, as opposed to weed. If you
had you wouldn’t have made such an ignorant comment….
Jennifer H: I am a registered voter! And I would vote yes! I don’t even smoke it
anymore! Haven’t even wanted to smoke it either! And I would vote yes in a heart beat !!!
Tyler H: People who say no are ignorant....but it’s ok to drink beer smoke cigs and
have a grand ole time....but pot oh no it’s a big no no...seeing how it’s never contributed
to one single death in recorded history....just because it has a bar code on it doesn’t mean
it’s not a drug...they are called gate way drugs for a reason you morons...(alcohol and tobacco)....not to mention the medical help pot provides....but you would rather stuff your
face full of little pills that can kill you....great thinking America....and I don’t even smoke it
but I’d damn sure vote it in if I was the deciding vote.....
Here’s a question for you...
If the legalization of marijuana issue came up for a vote, how would you
vote? Are you a registered voter, and
if not, would you register just so you
could vote? Would you vote for medicinal use only or all uses?

OK Jailbirds is cooperating with the efforts of Oklahoma Department of Human Services to impact the huge
social problem of irresponsible parents who are not paying the child supports ordered by our courts.
If these biological-only parents won’t honor the courts order, perhaps public shame will get their attention.
If you know how to reach any of the Deadbeat Parents found on this page, please call the Oklahoma Department of Human Services
Child Support HotLine at 1-800-522-8014
Importance of Child Support
Children are our future and child support helps make sure they
have a chance at a productive life. Children have the right to get
support from both parents and do not lose this right when a
parent leaves the home.
When children do not receive child support, they can:
Suffer both Emotionally and Physically
Live within a Reduced Standard of Living
Have their Basic Needs Unmet
Become Non-Supportive when they become Parents.
When one or both parents do not support their children,
taxpayers often pay the cost of raising children. When children
receive public assistance and their parents pay no child support,
all taxpayers bear the cost of supporting the children.

Proverbs 22:6 says
6 Train up a child in
the way he should go:
and when he is old,
he will not depart
from it.
Children have a
wonderful capacity
for trust. The faith
they put in adults is unqualified, and that should humble us; we often don’t
deserve it.
Sometimes kids suffer from intentional betrayal by a trusted adult, like
former Penn State football coach Jerry Sandusky, recently convicted of
sexually abusing underprivileged young boys. Other times, they are neglected
by society at large, as are the 1.7 million children with a parent behind bars.
Many of these kids face enormous obstacles, but get little notice.
The Bible affirms that children are a central focus of God.
Our national problem is not that we somehow undervalue children; it’s
that we don’t always know where to look to find the children most in need
of our help. Inmates’ children in particular get placed on the back burner.
They grow up in single-parent homes, or they get shuffled into foster care.
They are five times more likely than their peers to live in poverty. They often
endure confusion, loneliness, depression, abandonment, social ostracism,
and profound anger. Should we be surprised if they often follow their
parents to prison?
It doesn’t take much to ease the burden of an inmate’s family. Churches—
and other people of good will—can incorporate prisoners’ children into their
existing programs, like VBS, youth mentoring programs, or summer camps.
They can make sure kids have the supplies they need to succeed in school, or
gifts to celebrate the holidays; the opportunities are boundless.
If we take seriously the notion that every child has inherent worth and
deserves our society’s nurture and protection, we cannot afford to ignore
children with an incarcerated parent. Like Jesus, we must reach out to them,
and their trust will for once not be betrayed. In turn we will discover that the
blessing goes both ways: They will teach us what it means to have faith that
pleases God, faith that presses in close, believing everything will be okay.

public drunk
If you get too drunk, call a cab —
don’t let your 11-year-old daughter
be your DD.
Sapulpa dad Richard John Coleman, 35, was placed in the backseat
of a cop car after he let his young
daughter drive while he was riding
shotgun.
On September 7, a Creek County deputy was dispatched to 151st
Street and 81st W. Avenue to assist the Creek Nation Lighthouse
Police Department. Apparently, an
officer had stopped a car carrying
an intoxicated adult passenger and
11-year-old driver.
The officer told the deputy he was
on his way home when he saw a vehicle sitting in the roadway with
its lights on. He stopped to make sure everything was OK, but he
immediately noticed the driver was too young to drive and the passenger, Coleman, was intoxicated. Coleman told the officer he and
his daughter were just out for a drive. He said his daughter asked
him if she could drive and he told her yes. He said she only drove for
about 100 feet.
While speaking to Coleman, the officer noticed he smelled like alcohol, had slurred speech and was very unsteady on his feet. Coleman admitted to drinking a few beers.
He placed him under arrest.
Coleman’s daughter said she and her dad went for a drive, and he
asked her if she would like to drive. Of course she said yes, but she
told the officer she only drove the vehicle a short distance. She said
she got scared and pulled over.
Coleman is being charged with child endangerment, actual physical control of vehicle under the influence and allowing minor to
drive with no valid driver’s license. He was released on a $15,500
bond and is scheduled to appear in court on October 24, 2014.
A nice Sunday drive

Pom Pom: it’s what’s for dinner
Police call the relationship “toxic.” If the details of the
police report are accurate, folks won’t need much convincing.
Bear the Pomeranian disappeared in early August after the
dog’s owner and her then-boyfriend Ryan Eddy Watenpaugh
had an argument.
The woman fled her apartment after she was physically
assaulted by Watenpaugh, she told police in Redding,
California. When she returned, Bear was gone.
The couple, which police say had a tumultuous dating
relationship that included the woman being held against
her will, briefly reconciled the first week in September.
Watenpaugh, 35, cooked her a meal that included meat.
Then the text messages began.
“How’s your dog taste? I thought it was better with BBQ and those Hawaiian buns.”
“I guess u could bury what u didn’t eat.”
“The smile on my face when you read this … priceless,” KRCR reported.
Then early on Sept. 9, Watenpaugh showed up at the woman’s house and left a small bag
by her front door, police say. Inside was a note and two dog paws.
“Burn in hell,” the note says. “I hate you so much it hurts. Stay away from me. I want
nothing to do with you. F— you.” At the bottom of the note: a smiley face.
Redding police arrested him two days later. They say he’s admitted to sending the
messages and placing the dog paws at the woman’s residence, but has denied killing or
cooking Bear.
“You know this is extremely strange,” Redding Sgt. Todd Cogle told KRCR. “Unusual,
something we had never seen before.”
Watenpaugh has been charged with domestic violence, false imprisonment, stalking and
animal cruelty. He’s being held on $250,000 bail in the Shasta County jail.

An Edmond couple was arrested September 21 after they couldn’t
seem to leave an Edmond residence alone.
According to the police report, a Logan County deputy was dispatched to the 3300 block of Lakewood Drive around 6:27 p.m.; apparently, a woman was making threats to a homeowner. When he
arrived, he saw a black SUV matching the suspect vehicle make an
illegal u-turn on Lakewood Drive. The vehicle then drove toward the
residence where the threats had been made.
The deputy pulled over the vehicle and made contact with the driver, Laura Elizabeth Long, 34. He asked her if she had been at the
residence making threats toward the residents. She pointed at the
house and said, “I was there, but I wasn’t making threats.”
She said she stopped to tell them not to move her boyfriend’s truck
off the property. The woman who lived there then allegedly told her,
“A gun for a gun.” Long said she was tired of their “s---.”
The homeowner said Long was the one making threats.
The deputy smelled a strong odor of alcohol while speaking to
Long, and he asked her if she had been drinking. Her eyes were also
bloodshot and watery. She admitted to drinking four beers.
Long agreed to standard field sobriety tests to make sure she was
not driving while intoxicated. While the deputy was administering
the tests, he heard someone yelling. Jay Michal Brooks Patton, 30,
walked toward him and said, ‘What’s going on?”
Patton was Long’s boyfriend — and he wasn’t too happy seeing his lady getting arrested.
The deputy told Patton to stop walking and to sit on the ground. Patton did, but he continued
yelling.
Other officers showed up to assist, and dispatch advised that Patton received a trespassing
warning for the residence in June.
Long was unable to pass the sobriety tests. In her vehicle, the deputy found an open can of
beer. Her car also smelled strongly of alcohol.
The couple was transported to jail.
Patton is being charged with trespassing after being forbidden. He was released on a $1,000
bond and is scheduled to appear in court on October 23, 2014.
Long is being charged with driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. She
was released on a $2,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on November 13, 2014.

By Lt. Jeff James
Oklahoma Highway Patrol
Well, the temperatures are
dropping, and fall is almost here,
and these things signal the start
of football season in Oklahoma! Not only have our major colleges
had their first home games, but all across the state, people are
traveling to and from football games from 4th graders on up to
high school. With that in mind, I wanted to re-visit a few tips to
make this football season safe.
Lets start with college. Whether you are a Sooner, Cowboy,
or Golden Hurricane fan, one thing is for sure...you aren’t
alone! There are thousands of fans for each home game
traveling to the stadiums. This volume of traffic demands your
consideration. First, if you can, leave early! The closer to game
time, the worse the traffic gets, so if you can, get to the stadium
early. There are plenty of things on a game day that are going on
prior to kickoff that you can spend your time enjoying. There are
usually lots of free stuff for the kids to do that make the whole game
day experience wonderful for them as well.
Second, be patient! You WILL run into traffic, so plan ahead,
and don’t get frustrated with it. Turn on the radio, listen to the pregame hype, and remember to be a safe, courteous driver. Getting
frustrated, and getting into a hurry, can result in a traffic accident
that will delay your arrival, and could end up being very expensive,
not to mention the potential for injury.
Last, be aware that there are usually some temporary traffic
control changes on game days. Both before and after the games,
law enforcement will be at intersections controlling the traffic
lights, and making adjustments to keep the traffic flowing in the
best possible manner. Be alert and aware, and recognize when and
where these temporary traffic controls are taking place.
Now, on to the local games! The biggest thing I remember from
growing up is that parents are usually running late to get to games,
because of what time they got off work. This has not changed...we
Troopers are stopping folks who are speeding trying to get to a kid’s
ball game all the time. While we understand, (we have kids too!)
we also see all too often what happens when accidents happen as
a result of unsafe speed. If you get stopped by us, you’re going to
be even later, and possibly on the hook for a hefty fine. If you get
involved in an accident, you may not make the game at all.
Finally, when you do get there, be a good fan! Cheer your team,
don’t denigrate the other team. Use appropriate language in the
stands; remember, there are kids of all ages in the stands with
you. We Oklahomans love our football, just remember to show
your support in a positive way! Thanks for reading, buckle up, and
be safe!

A Chandler couple was arrested September 13 after an officer
found them up to no good parked in a handicapped spot at Walmart.
According to the affidavit, a Chandler officer was dispatched to
Walmart due to possibly intoxicated subjects hanging out in the
parking lot. Dispatch advised the two subjects were sitting in a car
in handicapped parking.
When the officer arrived, he saw the suspect vehicle — there
wasn’t a handicapped placard hanging from the mirror.
The officer walked up to the car and made contact with the occupants, Jamie Lynn Hallmark, 29, and Mark Christopher Reynolds,
42. Reynolds appeared to be very lethargic, was difficult to understand, and had red, bloodshot watery eyes. The officer asked the
couple if they had been drinking. They both said no.
He then asked Reynolds if he could search the vehicle. Reynolds
told the officer he didn’t want him to search.
The officer asked him to step out of the vehicle because he wanted
to pat him down for officer safety. After searching Reynolds, the officer did a pat-down search of Hallmark.
While conducting the search, he looked inside the vehicle and
saw a metal smoking device with a black burnt residue where Hallmark had been sitting. When he asked her what it was used for, she
slowly replied, “Pot.”
The residue later field-tested positive for marijuana. The officer
placed the couple under arrest.
In Hallmark’s pockets, he found a piece of metal with a black
burnt residue. Another officer found a green leafy substance on Reynolds; the substance fieldtested positive for marijuana.
During booking, an officer found three baggies and a piece of cellophane containing a crystal-like substance in Hallmark’s pockets. The officer asked her if the baggies belonged to her.
She shook her head and said, “Yes, they’re mine.”
The substance in the baggies later tested positive for methamphetamine.
Reynolds is being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. His bond was set at $2,000.
Hallmark is being charged with two counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Her bond was set at $5,000.
They are both scheduled to appear in court on October 6, 2014.
