CHECKING IN
A Stillwater man is facing more felony charges to add
to his list of previous thieving convictions after passing
multiple forged checks at a grocery store in Perkins.
Payton Grant Kelly, 23, of Stillwater, was charged on
Aug. 8 with four counts of uttering forged instrument
AFCF in Payne County District Court.
Kelly is accused of passing forged checks totaling in
the amount of $1,974.42 on July 15 at Williams Food in
Perkins. According to reports, on August 1, an employee at Williams contacted Perkins Police to report the
bad checks. The employee showed the officer images
four checks allegedly cashed by Kelly.
A comparison of the security surveillance video taken at the store and a previous
booking mug shot confirmed Kelly as the person who had cashed the checks.
The checks, which seemed to belong to another Perkins business, had the correct
business name and address, but the account numbers, business phone, and bank address was not correct on them, according to the affidavit.
Kelly was booked into the Payne County jail on August 8. He was released on a $15,000
bond and he was ordered to next appear on court on September 10.

AROUND THE NATION
A 39-year-old is charged with Aggravated Assault against a Public Servant, following an officer-involved shooting in East Lubbock.
Lubbock Police were called to the 300 block of
East 37th Street at 9:00 a.m. on August 11th for
a report of a domestic disturbance. Initial information conveyed to dispatch indicated Eliseo Padilla
III was armed with a gun and had destroyed property at the residence.
The responding officer arrived on scene at 9:07 a.m. and found Padilla in front
of the house. Padilla, who was verbally combative, ignored multiple instructions
by the officer to place his hands on a nearby vehicle in order for the officer to pat
him down. After giving multiple commands, and with the knowledge Padilla was
armed with a weapon, the officer deployed less lethal force with his department
issued Taser. Despite the deployment of the Taser, Padilla produced a firearm
and began shooting at the responding officer. In response, the officer drew his
duty weapon and returned fire at Padilla at 9:09 a.m.
The responding officer, who suffered no injuries, immediately notified dispatch
shots were fired and requested EMS. Additional officers arrived on scene and
began dispensing life-saving measures in order to treat Padilla. Upon arrival, EMS transported Padilla to University Medical Center via ambulance with
life-threatening injuries.
An investigation is currently underway by the Lubbock Metropolitan Special
Crimes Unit, LPD’s Office of Professional
Standards and LPD’s forensic unit.
The officer who fired at Padilla was
employed by the Lubbock Police Department beginning in January of 2015.
He is currently on routine administrative
leave per department policy.
Padilla, who remains in critical condition at UMC, was served a warrant for
Aggravated Assault against a Public Servant. His bond is $300,000.

We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money
or favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting officer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.
Thank you and God Bless

THAT'S METHED UP!
In today’s episode of “Methed Up” we discuss
once again that if you do meth and run from the
law you will end up exactly like this!! Apparently,
David Helms didn’t get the memo though so he
“Methed Up” and learned pretty quick what happens when you have drugs on you and try to run from Deputies in Brevard
County (Florida)!!
Helms, who by the way could play John Goodman’s stunt double in the movie
“John Goodman Goes Back To High School,” fell asleep at the wheel of his truck
while sitting at the gas pumps at the Merritt Island 7-11 for about an hour, so the
store clerk called to report the suspicious activity!!
After the store clerk called the Sheriff’s Office, Deputies Alec Brannon and
Matthew McCarley arrived on scene and made contact with Helms who exited
the vehicle and took off running on foot!! While I’m pretty sure even “Junny”
could have ran him down, Deputies Brannon and McCarly ran him down themselves and tackled him for fleeing from the traffic stop!! Of course, the real reason Helms was running was because he had a bag of meth and a glass pipe in
his pocket and knew that he was just seconds away from taking the ride to jail!!
My favorite part of this story though is that once he was in cuffs, Helm started
screaming and whining like a little baby and continued to be non-compliant, so
he got handcuffed to the stretcher and transported to Cape Canaveral Hospital
where he was medically cleared for priority check-in at Ivey’s Iron Bar Lodge,
aka jail!!
Helms subsequently got booked into the Brevard County Jail on a total bond
of $4,000 for Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Resisting Arrest Without Violence. Of
course Helms also got a free “I Messed Around
And Found Out In Brevard County” T-Shirt so he
can show all his friends that he “Methed Up!!”

A Tulsa-area contractor faces 17 counts of felony embezzlement and one count of engaging in
a pattern of criminal offenses following an investigation by Attorney General Gentner Drummond’s
Consumer Protection Unit.
Charges were filed August 12 in Creek County against Todd Douglas Briggs, who operated T
Briggs Construction and Oasis Pools and Outdoor Living. He is accused of taking more than $1.2 million from 17 customers
for home or pool construction that he never completed or for which he never
paid subcontractors.
“I am committed to holding accountable anyone who engages in deceitful
business practices to take advantage of hardworking Oklahomans,” Drummond
said. “I appreciate the work of the attorneys, investigators and staff in the Consumer Protection Unit as we pursue justice for the families who were exploited.”
Briggs informed customers in July 2023 that he was filing for bankruptcy, only
days after receiving substantial payments from several of them. Many were left
with unfinished projects and had liens placed against their homes by unpaid
subcontractors. Consumers in Tulsa, Jenks, Broken Arrow, Owasso, Collinsville,
Sapulpa, Bixby and Beggs were impacted.
Drummond encourages anyone who believes they may have been a victim of
contractor fraud to contact the Consumer Protection Unit at 1-833-681-1895
or Oklahoma.gov/oag.
Bonds for Briggs was set at $1M. He pleaded not guilty at his arraignment on
August 21 and he was ordered to next appear in court on September 25. YANG

END OF THE ROAD
A 27-year-old man from Bella Vista, Arkansas,
was arrested in Lincoln County after a trooper
found drugs, paraphernalia, and a gun in his vehicle on August 18.
According to the police report, the trooper was
notified that someone had run out of gas on the
Turner Turnpike near mile marker 176 at approximately 5:12 p.m. When the trooper arrived at the
scene, he saw Jordan Reece Truman Bennett sitting in the passenger seat. He
also noticed the odor of marijuana and saw a partial marijuana blunt.
The trooper asked Bennett to step out of the vehicle and have a seat in the patrol car. Bennett told the trooper that he had a small amount of marijuana in the
vehicle and he didn’t have a medical marijuana license. He also told the trooper
that there might be a bong used to smoke meth, and a gun in the vehicle.
The trooper searched the vehicle and found the blunt and the bong. He also
found the pistol under the passenger seat next to a baggie that appeared to

AROUND THE STATE
On August 4, around 3:50 p.m., Officers were
called out to a burglary at Kultivation Kingz near
Pine and 169 in Tulsa. When Officers arrived, they
found the business had been burglarized and a
large amount of marijuana was stolen.
The owners of the business reported they had
multiple tracking devices inside some of the stolen product.
Officers tracked down some of the stolen goods
at a home near Edison and Gilcrease Museum
Road. When Officers arrived, several individuals were seen unloading plastic
tubs full of marijuana from a U-Haul truck. When the individuals spotted the Officers, they took off running.
At the home, Officers recovered 283 lbs. of marijuana, believed to all be stolen,
a Glock pistol, and $13,000 in counterfeit $20 bills.
Kym Mayberry was arrested for 2nd Degree Burglary, Trafficking Marijuana,
and Possession of a Firearm in Commission of a Felony.
At this time, we know that the stolen marijuana came from at least four dispensaries that were burglarized. One of the dispensaries was able to recover more
than $50,000 in product after the bust.
Detectives are continuing to investigate this case. Anyone with information
about potential suspects related to the burglaries is asked to call Tulsa Crime
Stoppers at 918-596-COPS. You can remain anonymous when calling.
Please reference case 2024-039644.
FYI, please do not contact us and tell us you’ve recently lost 283 pounds of
marijuana and can identify it in person. TPD

THE OPPOSITE OF DEFENSE
A Coyle man, who works as a Department of Defense police officer at Tinker AFB, is facing a child
pornography charge after an investigation by several
agencies led to his arrest.
Colt Gladding, Sr., 40, was charged August 15 with
Possession of Child Pornography in Logan County
District Court.
According to reports, an investigation into Gladding began on August 5 by the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Oklahoma State Bureau of
Investigation (OSBI). He was interviewed at his place
of employment at Tinker AFB, and during his interview, he read his Miranda Warning
card out loud to investigators.
Gladding allegedly confessed he kept nude photos of the juvenile victim on his
phone as a means of blackmail. A total of 54 files were found on Gladding’s phone,
some of the images showed the victim in the nude along with multiple videos depicting sexual activity.
Bond for Gladding was set at $150,000 and he was ordered back to court on September 12.

ARE ONES WE DON’T TALK ABOUT
On any given day in America, an average of 63 of our mothers,
brothers, partners, and friends are taken from us by gun suicide.
But tomorrow’s deaths could be prevented. Give your loved ones
a second chance at life. Store your guns safely: locked, unloaded,
and away from ammo.
