A Stillwater man received a felony
charge involving children under 16 in
Payne County April 5.
Ryan Nathaniel Crowe, 31, is accused
of storing sexually explicit photos of
4-6 year-old girls during August and
October 2011. His ex girlfriend told
Stillwater Police Officer John Johnson
she went through Crowe’s phone and
discovered hundreds of photos of young
girls wearing nothing but panties. One
of the girls in Crowe’s phone was the
ex-girlfriend’s 6-year-old daughter,
according to the affidavit.
The daughter reportedly pointed
to her private area when she asked if
Crowe did anything inappropriate, the ex told Johnson.
The girl said her father, who she identified as Crowe, pulled her
clothing down, exposing her, according to the affidavit. She also told
a caseworker at the Saville Center that Crowe “put his private part
inside her private part” and added that he took photos of her genital
area.
The ex told Johnson that Crowe was homeless after their
relationship ended, either sleeping on the streets or in a jail cell.
Crowe, who has now been a defendant in 16 cases, including three
protective orders, denied the allegations, telling Johnson he never
had photos of young girls on his phone. However, an investigation
turned up many full frontal nude images, including some showing
Crowe getting ready to touch one of the girls.
Crowe, who now lives in Krum, Tex., was initially arrested January
4 in Payne County on the same complaint. The charges in the case
were dismissed after the state found the child involved incompetent
to testify, according to court records. He was extradited back to
Denton on an outstanding warrant in early April after the decision.
However, the April 5 charge still stands.
Crowe will next appear in court May 11 at 1:45 p.m.

Death Row
Clayton Lockett
Convicted and sentenced to Death
in the 1999 murder of Stephanie
Nieman.
The spree in June, 1999, began
when Lockett and two others
forced their way into Bobby Bornt’s
residence in Perry, police said.
Nieman, 19, of Perry and another
19-year-old from Perry arrived at the
home and were accosted by the men
and had their hands bound with duct
tape. One of the women was raped.
Authorities said the women did not know the suspects. Bornt,
his nine-month-old son and the two women were taken to a
location in Kay County where Neiman was shot. Police said
the others were put back in trucks, driven back to Perry and
released. The child was not harmed. Neiman’s body was
found in a shallow grave along a dirt road near Tonkawa.
One of the suspects led police to the body. The woman’s two
friends have said they believed they were allowed to live
because they had children. In addition to the murder charge,
Lockett was found guilty of conspiracy, fi rst-degree burglary,
three counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, three
counts of forcible oral sodomy, four counts of fi rst-degree
rape, four counts of kidnapping and two counts of robbery by
force and fear.
Alfonzo LaRon Veasey Lockett, 19, of Ponca City and
Shawn C. Mathis, 27, also have been ordered held for trial in
Neiman’s death. The Locketts are cousins from Ponca City.

Two Cushing women are accused
of embezzling from a business where
they were long-time employees.
Linda Sue Newton, 52, and Kara
Jean Sanders, 33, were charged April
26 in Payne County District Court with
embezzling more than $182,000 from
Hotco-Hough Oilfield Service, where
they were employed a combined 26 years.
Hotco, at 711 W. Cherry St., rents out oilfield tools. It is owned by
David and Denice Hough.
Newton was a secretary at Hotco for about 20 years, according to
Denice Hough. Sanders had been employed about six years.
“It was more we were hurt than we were mad at first,” Denice
Hough said.
Newton is accused of writing 45 company checks totaling
$159,086 to cover personal obligations on credit cards. The forgery
charge contends she issued checks to company vendors and wrote
herself company checks in the same amount to conceal the alleged
embezzlement.
Sanders’ embezzlement charges accuse her of writing company
checks totaling $13,398.41 for personal benefit and of using a Hotco
American Express credit card to make unauthorized purchases
totaling $9,736.75.
Her charges contend five checks written to the company were
altered to be paid to Sanders.
Denice Hough said customers called the business after returned
checks appeared to have been altered, officials from the Oklahoma
State Bureau of Investigation and Cushing Police Department said.
The customer calls prompted the Houghs to probe the suspicious
checks. They discovered several checks written to Discover, a credit
card company Hotco seldom used, Denice Hough said.
According to court records, neither woman had been arrested as of
press time. Sanders had been issued a letter ordering her to appear
in court by May 17. Newton had not been issued a letter.
Neither woman was available for comment.

Answer: The first thing to understand in this discussion is that
there is only one race—the human
race. Caucasians, Africans, Asians,
Indians, Arabs, and Jews are not
different races. Rather, they are
different ethnicities of the human
race. All human beings have the
same physical characteristics (with
minor variations, of course). More
importantly, all human beings are
created in the image and likeness
of God (Genesis 1:26-27). God
loved the world so much that He
sent Jesus to lay down His life for
us (John 3:16). The “world” obviously includes all ethnic groups.
God does not show partiality or favoritism (Deuteronomy 10:17;
Acts 10:34; Romans 2:11; Ephesians 6:9), and neither should
we. James 2:4 describes those who discriminate as “judges with
evil thoughts.” Instead, we are to love our neighbors as ourselves
(James 2:8). All forms of racism, prejudice, and discrimination are
affronts to the work of Christ on the cross.
Jesus commands us to love one another as He loves us (John
13:34). If God is impartial and loves us with impartiality, then we
need to love others with that same high standard. Jesus teaches in
Matthew 25 that whatever we do to the least of His brothers, we
do to Him. If we treat a person with contempt, we are mistreating
a person created in God’s image; we are hurting somebody whom
God loves and for whom Jesus died.
Racism, in varying forms and to various degrees, has been a
plague on humanity for thousands of years. Brothers and sisters of
all ethnicities, this should not be. Victims of racism, prejudice, and
discrimination need to forgive. Ephesians 4:32 declares, “Be kind
and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in
Christ God forgave you.” Racists may not deserve your forgiveness,
but we deserved God’s forgiveness far less.
What does the Bible say about racism,
prejudice, and discrimination?

Police in Texas said a pair of attempted robbers
were scared off when their own gun went off during
the crime.
Investigators said two men with their faces covered walked into the Valero Corner Store on Culebra
Road in San Antonio and demanded cash from the
clerk. However, the men fl ed empty handed when
one of their guns accidentally went off. Police said
there were no injuries and offi cers are searching for
suspects.
A 20-year-old man is scheduled to appear in court
on charges that he impersonated a police offi cer.
Chadwyck Voegeli of Fort Wayne was arrested after
he attempted to pull a car over with what appeared
to be a phone displaying red and blue fl ashing lights.
He pulled up next to the car laughing until he saw
the person he attempted to stop fl ash a Fort Wayne
police badge. Two off-duty offi cers were riding in the
car in front of Voegeli. The suspect tried to drive off
but the offi cers followed him to a bar off Leo Road.
Uniformed offi cers arrived at the scene and after a
short chase on foot through the bar, Voegeli was arrested.
A man was given a three-day jail sentence for contempt of court after his wardrobe didn’t pass judicial
muster. LaMarcus D. Ramsey, 20, was in Autauga
County Circuit Court to enter a plea on a charge of
receiving stolen property. Circuit Judge John Bush
took exception to the fact that Ramsey’s blue jeans
were sagging too low. The three-day stint will be
served in the Autauga Metro jail.
“You are in contempt of court because you showed
your butt in court,” a visibly irate Bush told Ramsey.
“You can spend three days in jail. When you get out
you can buy pants that fi t, or at least get a belt to hold
up your pants so your underwear doesn’t show.”
A woman was arrested at her step son’s Boy Scout
meeting. While watching a policeman demonstrate
his drug dog’s ability, the dog found a bag of grass
in her purse.
R.C. Gaitlan, 21, walked up to two patrol offi cers
who were showing their squad car computer felonlocation equipment to children in a Detroit neighborhood. When he asked how the system worked,
the offi cer asked him for identifi cation. Gaitlan gave
them his drivers license, they entered it into the
computer, and moments later they arrested Gaitlan
because information on the screen showed Gaitlan
was wanted for a two-year-old armed robbery in St.
Louis, Missouri.

OK Jailbirds is cooperating with the efforts of Oklahoma
Department of Human Services to impact the huge social
problem of irresponsible parents who are not paying the
child supports ordered by our courts.
If these biological-only parents won’t honor the courts
order, perhaps public shame will get their attention.
If you know how to reach any of the Deadbeat Parents found on this page, please call the Oklahoma Department of Human Services
Child Support HotLine at 1-800-522-8014
It’s ALL about the KIDS!
Importance of Child Support
Children are our future and child support helps make sure they have a chance at a
productive life. Children have the right to get support from both parents and do not
lose this right when a parent leaves the home.
When children do not receive child support, they can:
Suffer both Emotionally and Physically
Live within a Reduced Standard of Living
Have their Basic Needs Unmet
Become Non-Supportive when they become Parents.
When one or both parents do not support their children, taxpayers often pay the cost
of raising children. When children receive public assistance and their parents pay no
child support, all taxpayers bear the cost of supporting the children.

Folcroft Police Corporal Christopher Eiserman has seen a
lot during his 14 years as a cop. An alleged Philly drug dealer
standing in the station with 89 bags of dope hanging from his
schlong was not one of them. Not until he met Ray Woods.
“Oh, that guy ... ” Eiserman said when called to ask about
Woods, 23, a resident of the city’s Eastwick section awaiting
his preliminary hearing on drug charges.
Eiserman said another officer was on routine patrol when
he pulled Woods over for a broken rear light and found marijuana in his car. When the officer searched Woods before
placing him in the police cruiser, he discovered “a large bulge”
in the front of his pants, Eiserman said.
Police say Woods actually denied that there was any contraband down there.
“He stopped him for the traffic violation and one thing led to another,” Eiserman said.
Back at the station, Eiserman said, police discovered that Woods had tied a large plastic bag around his penis that contained a whopping 89 small bags of suspected heroin
and cocaine. Then things got messy.
“I tried to remove it. Unfortunately, and I don’t know if it was nervousness or not, but
he started urinating all over,” Eiserman said.
Good times.
While it wasn’t exactly what Eiserman had in mind when he started his shift Friday, he
couldn’t help but chuckle at the ingenuity, or lack thereof, of street-level drug dealers.
“In 14 years, I’ve seen it down their pants, in their a--, but I’ve never seen it tied to
their penis,” he said. “I couldn’t believe it. I guess they figure the police officers aren’t going to check down in that area.”
As for whizzing in the police station, Eiserman said it did not result in additional
charges.
“I don’t think he did it intentionally,” he said. “I think he was nervous, he knew the jig
was up.”

In 1962, President
John F. Kennedy
signed a proclamation which designated
May 15th as Peace Officers Memorial Day
and the week in which
that date falls as Police
Week. Currently, tens
of thousands of law
enforcement officers
from around the world
converge on Washington, DC to participate in a number of planned
events which honor those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice.
The Memorial Service began in 1982 as a gathering in Senate Park
of approximately 120 survivors and supporters of law enforcement.
Decades later, the event, more commonly known as National Police
Week, has grown to a series of events which attracts thousands of survivors and law enforcement officers to our Nation’s Capital each year.
The National Peace Officers’ Memorial Service, which is sponsored
by the Grand Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police, is one in a series
of events which includes the Candlelight Vigil, which is sponsored by
the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF)
and seminars sponsored by Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.)
National Police Week draws in between 25,000 to 40,000 attendees. The attendees come from departments throughout the United
States as well as from agencies throughout the world. This provides
a unique opportunity to meet others that share a common brotherhood. In that spirit, the Fraternal Order of Police DC Lodge #1 sponsors receptions each afternoon and evening during Police Week.
These events are open to all law enforcement personnel and are an
experience unlike any other.

An Oklahoma City man faces
a felony assault charge in Logan
County after reportedly beating
his wife with a cane.
Hector Aguirre Aguilar, 37,
was arrested April 26 in the
10000 block of South Pine Lot
in Guthrie after officers heard
his wife crying for help during a
domestic dispute.
Guthrie police arrived to see a
trashed living room with broken
pieces of wood everywhere and
overturned furniture.
Officer James Poe reported
hearing Aguilar’s wife screaming, “He’s going to kill me!” over
and over again, according to the affidavit.
The victim said her husband hit her with a cane on her back,
butt, hands and feet. She had multiple cuts on the palms of her
hands and feet, police said.
Poe then entered the home and arrested Aguilar after finding
him in a back bedroom. Once he was arrested, Poe noticed he
smelled like booze and that he peed on himself. Aguilar could
barely even walk to the patrol car, the affidavit says.
After Aguilar was put in the patrol car, police saw a piece of
the broken cane embedded into a speaker in the house, as well
as a broken guitar and several broken pieces of furniture.
Aguilar’s wife declined medical treatment at the scene but
was still hysterical throughout the incident, police said.
Aguilar was released May 1 from the Logan County Jail on a
$5,000 bond on the condition that he has no contact with his
wife. He will appear in court at 2 p.m. May 24.

By Lt. Jeff James

Well, spring is in full swing, and
with that comes the potential for
severe weather. Ever since we were
kids, we’ve been drilled on what to do in the event of a tornado or
other significant weather event. Our school systems have drills, our
workplaces have drills, and our cities test our early warning sirens
every week. But what if we aren’t at home, work or school? What
if we are going to or from those places, or just out and about in
our vehicles? Not much emphasis is placed on this, so I thought I
would put down some tips on what to do if you are faced with this
situation.
First and foremost, DON’T PANIC! Be prepared at all times when
driving to take evasive action or drive to shelter. Part of this means
being aware of your surroundings at all times to know where shelter
is. Bad weather doesn’t just appear out of nowhere, so when you
are driving in bad weather, be thinking of what you will do if bad
weather turns worse!
Vehicles are extremely dangerous in a tornado. If the tornado is
visible, far away, and the traffic is light, you may be able to drive out
of its path by moving at right angles to the tornado. Otherwise, park
the car as quickly and safely as possible -- out of the traffic lanes. It
is safer to get the car out of mud later if necessary than to cause a
crash. Get out and seek shelter in a sturdy building. If in the open
country, run to low ground away from any cars (which may roll over
on you). Lie flat and face-down, protecting the back of your head
with your arms. Avoid seeking shelter under bridges, which can
create deadly traffic hazards while offering little protection against
flying debris. One thing to remember though, is that some of these
options may be your only option of shelter, so if its all you have, use
it!
Also, please don’t chase the storm! I know that the awesome
power of nature is a big attraction to some people, but driving
towards tornadoes is a big risk. Tornadoes are unpredictable,
fast, and unforgiving. Given that they can pick up cars and trucks
and deposit them hundreds of yards away, we should respect that
power and avoid it at all costs! Another thing to think about is the
aftermath. Emergency services will need to respond to injuries,
rescues, etc. If you put your vehicle in the way, and it becomes
disabled, destroyed, etc., you run the chance of hindering that
response. As always, thanks for reading, buckle up and be safe!

An 18-year-old man faces four felony and three
misdemeanor charges after a drunken altercation with
Crescent police officers.
Aaron Deshawn Christopher was arrested around 3
p.m. April 8 on complaints of possession of a controlled
dangerous substance, placing body fluids on a police
officer, assault of a police officer, malicious injury to
property, attempted escape from arrest, threatening acts
of violence and public intoxication.
Crescent Police Officer Patrick Strange saw Christopher
and his girlfriend acting suspiciously near Maple and
Washington roads, and he followed them in case of
possible vandalism attempts. When Strange tried to talk to
Christopher, he started screaming and making absolutely
no sense, but said that his girlfriend was 17 and they
weren’t doing anything illegal, according to the affidavit.
The girlfriend ran away from Strange and led police to
a party by stumbling into a house in the 200 block of East
Washington. Christopher screamed, “You’re good, keep going!” multiple times to his girlfriend
despite her obvious intoxication.
When Strange detained Christopher, he continuously stated, “I only had a shot of Four Lokos,
why am I going to jail?” and repeatedly tried to make his way out of the police car.
Deciding to make matters worse for himself, Christopher spit in an officer’s face and kicked
another policeman. The reason? “If I am going to jail, then I am going to make it worth it,”
Christopher said.
Police attempted to calm him down, but only got, “F--- you, b----!” in reply, according to the
affidavit. Christopher was subsequently tased and put in the patrol car.
Upon arriving at the Logan County Jail, Christopher was again tased by a detention officer
during an altercation, causing him to lose consciousness, according to the affidavit.
When officers transported Christopher to the emergency room, they told him they found K2
marijuana in his pants pocket. Christopher then became irate, trying to hit medical staff and
threatening to kill everyone in the room, saying, “I am going to blow up your house and cars if
I have to.”
Christopher remains in custody as of May 3 on $22,500 bond. He received a court-appointed
attorney and will next appear in court at 2 p.m. May 24.

Members of a state House committee have voted
to increase the legal protection of citizens’ constitutional rights.
Senate Bill 1760, by state Sen. Anthony Sykes
and state Rep. T.W. Shannon, would specify that
Oklahomans’ Second Amendment rights cannot be
taken away during a declared state of emergency.
“While government may assume greater police
powers to preserve public safety during times of
emergency, the government should never be allowed to strip citizens of their most basic constitutional rights,” said Shannon, R-Lawton. “This legislation simply makes clear that Oklahomans will continue to have the right to self-defense
during emergency situations.”
Shannon noted that law enforcement officials reportedly seized guns from citizens who
were not engaged in acts of lawlessness after Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, which led
many states to reconsider laws dealing with an official state of emergency.
Senate Bill 1760 amends the Oklahoma Riot Control and Prevention Act to state that “neither the governor nor any official of a municipal or state entity shall prohibit or suspend the
sale, ownership, possession, transportation, carrying, transfer and storage of firearms, ammunition and ammunition accessories during a declared state of emergency that are otherwise legal under state law.” The bill would apply to situations where a state of emergency has
been declared to deal with a public disorder, disaster, or riot.
Under the bill, the Oklahoma Riot Control and Prevention Act would continue to allow the
governor to issue proclamations imposing a curfew, banning the sale of alcohol, targeting
individuals using explosive devices, and other activities the governor “reasonably believes
should be prohibited to help preserve and maintain life, health, property or the public peace”
during a disaster or riot.
“In a situation where a riot is severe enough that the governor declares a state of emergency, citizens in the affected area will likely have much greater need for self-defense than at any
other time,” Shannon said. “It makes no sense to force those law-abiding citizens caught in a
bad situation to disarm when they may be threatened with violence by lawless individuals.”
Senate Bill 1760 passed the House Public Safety Committee on a bipartisan 12-0 vote. It
now proceeds to the floor of the Oklahoma House of Representatives.

Every year during Prom and graduation season,
there are many reports of parents going to jail for
hosting parties and providing alcohol to minors at
their homes. Do you think it is okay to provide alcohol
to minors under any circumstances?
Poll
Michelle M: I have allowed my own
two children to try a beer and also a
mixed drink but they had to remain at my
home, not out with friends experimenting or placing themselves or anyone else
in danger. It satisfies the curiosity and allows me to be present to supervise without worry. They and their friends now
call me and ask if I can be a DD or if I
will come get them in the middle of the
night, they also come home to my house
to drink as they are of age now to do so.
They are at least comfortable knowing
that MOM will be there to make sure they
are cared for and no harm is brought to
any of them. My children were the only
ones drinking unless the other parents
were present as I was responsible for my
children and they were to be responsible
for theirs. It was an understanding we
shared as parents.
Elaine B: NO NO AND DEFINITELY
NO!! I lost a good friend of 14 years when
he was just a month shy of his 16th birthday and getting his license.
Jennifer N: I don’t think it’s right
that you can take a bullet for our country
at 18, but you cannot take a drink in it till
you’re 21. That said, 21 is the legal drinking age -- I’m not hosting any parties and
I’d be on the warpath if another adult encouraged my kids to break the law...
Jennifer L: I’ve Never Really Been
A Drinker & There’s No Way My Mother
Would Have Let Me, But Being 20, I’ve
Been To A Few Parties That Had Parents.
They Didn’t Let Anyone Drive Or Anything If They Had Been Drinking. I’m Not
All For It But I’m Also Not All Against
It. It Depends On Who The Parents Are
& What Kind Of People They Are. They
Prolly Only Allow It, Because They Know
The Minors Would Be Supervised & It
Also Depends On The Age Of The Minors
As Well. I’m Just Saying, If My Kid Was
Gunna Drink, I’d Rather Them Drink In
Front Of Responsible Adults, Then To
Go Out Backroading Or What Have You
With A Bunch Of Irresponsible Kids.
AuntTerra M: It’s against the law.
Would not risk getting my mug in OKJailbirds
Mark C: And let me guess here...just
a HUNCH: Every one of you that think
it’s OK for minors to drink also sit around
and moan, bitch, gripe and complain
about SMOKERS too, right? Uh huh...
thought so!
Stephanie M: Yes! Letting your
child drink in your supervision is better
than them keeping it from you! Hate to
tell you but more teens drink than what
society wants to believe ..... why not take
the time to teach your kids how to be responsible about it? I was taught early on
what it does and i used to have a beer or
two with my grandmother (not here in
the states).
Donna T: Absolutely NOT, under any
circumstances would I provide my child
liquor!!!!!!! Parents ought to be arrested.
Murdock H: I think if it’s in your
home with your own kids it’s totally fine,
especially at 18. If you can be sent off to
serve and possibly die for your country,
you ought to be able to have some drinks.
Doug F: Law is the law and no parents should set examples that are right
not how to break the law. I’ve raised four
and they never had parties by me
Adam O: When supervised and moderated by responsible parents, yes. Compared to them sneaking around and hiding the fact that they are drinking, its a
no brainer.
Darlene L: I don’t agree with Parents
providing Alcohol to teens in their own
home. It amazes me how some parents
find nothing wrong with watching their
children and other people’s children getting drunk while under their care. The
parents should go to jail in my opinion.
Susan W: No. Its scientific fact that
a high school age child’s brain is not fully
developed. Why potentially cheat your
child out of that development?

The Attorney General’s Public Protection Unit
issued a consumer alert April 3 for a text message scam that claims recipients have won a
Wal-Mart gift card. The scam uses the store’s
name to lure unsuspecting consumers into providing personal and financial information.
These types of scams delivered via mobile
phones are known as smishing. Con-artists randomly send out messages in an attempt to obtain information, and often go to great lengths to
make the messages appear authentic.
Wal-Mart recently posted an alert on its website declaring the messages fake and that the
company doesn’t participate in these types of promotions or request personal information
in this manner.
“Always be cautious when asked to give out personal information, especially when you
didn’t initiate the contact,” Attorney General Scott Pruitt said. “When in doubt it’s best to
verify or disregard the request.”
Attorney General Pruitt said consumers increase the likelihood of getting spam messages
when they sign up for mobile apps, because they’ve increased the number of people who
have their information.
For tips on avoiding fraud or to report a fraudulent text, consumers can call the Attorney
General’s Public Protection Unit at (405) 521-2029 or go online to www.oag.ok.gov.

A Wellston woman was taken
into custody after she escaped from
Lincoln County Deputies who had
just arrested her on an outstanding
$100,000 warrant.
Sandi Marie Easley, 25, was
booked into the Lincoln County Jail
early April 6, after much ado, on
complaints of bail jumping, escape
from justice, false impersonation to
avoid prosecution, failure to obey a
lawful order, obstruction of a police
officer, and possession of stolen
property.
Around 10 p.m. on April 5,
deputies went to a home in the 331000 block of East Shadow
Wood in Wellston to serve a felony warrant to Easley. When they
got there, one deputy went around to the back of the house and
saw a woman exiting the back door. When she saw the deputy,
she turned around and went back inside.
At the front door, deputies knocked and announced themselves,
but no one would answer. Only when they tried to kick in the
door did someone answer.
A male inside told the deputies Easley was in the back bedroom.
When they tried to arrest her, she fought them, and it was only
when she was threatened to get a zap with the taser did she calm
down. She was then placed in the patrol car.
While deputies were questioning the man, Easley slipped
through the sliding cage partition and out of the car.
An all-out manhunt was called for, including tracking dogs and
OHP Air One. They eventually tracked her to a house at the end
of Shadow Wood. Deputies and members of the DA’s Task Force
forced their way into the home where Easley was recaptured and
transported to the Lincoln County Jail for booking.

Stroud Police Officer Dax Phipps
was on patrol just after 7 p.m. April 17
when he noticed a familiar car going
through the drive-through at McDonald’s. He recognized the driver as Cody
Hyles, 24, and knew he did not have a
driver’s license.
Phipps saw Hyles watching him as
Hyles was talking to the girl in the
front seat next to him. Phipps parked
at the OnCue and waited for Hyles to
make a wrong move, and low and behold, Hyles did. The chase was on.
Hyles sped down 7th, driving on the wrong side of the road.
Phipps saw three young boys playing on the side of the road
in a bar ditch at 7th St. and 6th Ave. He backed off and gave
Hyles the opportunity to slow down, but instead Hyles rolled
through the intersection, coming within inches of hitting one
of the boys on a bicycle. Phipps sped back up after he passed
the boys and tried to intercept Hyles.
Hyles soon pulled into a driveway in the 500 block of W.
7th. As soon as they came to a stop, the girl took off running.
Phipps shouted at her to stop, and she complied.
Phipps asked Hyles why he ran and Hyles said he didn’t have
a driver’s license and was scared. Phipps placed Hyles into
handcuffs and transported him to the Lincoln County Jail on
complaints of endangering the lives of others while attempting to elude, driving without a license, eluding/attempting to
elude, reckless driving, fail to yield/stop for emergency vehicle,
failure to keep right, failure to stop at a stop sign, and failure
to wear seatbelt.
