A 35-year-old woman was put behind bars after she
allegedly ran over her husband with an ATV, killing
him, after he asked her for a divorce during a dispute
about food.
According to reports, the altercation took place at a
campground in Wanette. Chanelle Lewis and her husband started arguing about food, but the fight quickly
escalated.
At one point, the victim told Lewis that he wanted a
divorce. In response, Lewis told the man she was going to run him over and kill him.
The woman then jumped on an ATV and drove straight for the victim.
After running over the victim, the woman then allegedly tried to run over
her stepson and stepdaughter.
The stepson hit Lewis in the face.
Investigators say there was alcohol involved.
A caller who phoned 911 from Soggy Bottoms ATV Trails told dispatch,
“That little girl was screaming saying her dad was dead!... Somebody ran
her dad over and said he was dead out on one of our trails.”
Formal charges, bond information, and court date were unavailable at
the time of publication.

AROUND THE NATION
Man Charged with dumping poop water near
stream in Sierra County, CA
On July 5th, an off-duty Sierra County Sheriff’s Office detective driving on Highway 49 noticed a GMC
pickup with a gray and yellow Attitude trailer parked
on Highway 49 near the Forest Service Road 9 at
mile-post-marker 40.19. The off-duty detective saw
a white male, later identified through a California
State driver’s license as Peter Cate, standing next
to the trailer dumping the black tank into the ditch
along Highway 49. The license plate on the vehicle
was noted and reported to Sierra County Sheriff’s
Office dispatch, and an illegal dumping case was
opened.
The Sierra County Sheriff’s Office detective could see brown water discharging from the trailer. The detective turned around and parked across from the
truck and trailer. He observed Cate discharging sewage from the black tank.
The sewage ran down the road and into an adjacent ditch that drained into a
nearby creek. Cate then closed the black tank, got back into his truck, and
drove away.
Photographs were taken of the raw sewage which ran approximately 30 yards
from dump site. The detective reported a strong smell of sewage and could see
toilet paper and human waste. The sewage was about 12 inches from a stream
in which the detective could see trout.
Local Fish and Wildlife Warden, Steve Ulrich responded to the scene and
assisted the Sierra County Sheriff’s Office in charging the suspect with felony
discharge of pollutants into a waterbody. Warden Ulrich notified Fish and Wildlife officers in Cate’s jurisdiction and asked them to contact and interview Cate.
Sierra County Sheriff’s Office wrote an arrest warrant that was served that
evening by the Livermore Police Department. Cate was booked into Alameda
County Sheriff’s Office on a felony charge of the California Water and a misdemeanor charge of Fish and Game Code, Disposal of Trash into or within 150
feet of a waterbody.

GUILTY PLEA ENTERED IN CHILD
PORNOGRAPHY INVESTIGATION
OKLAHOMA COUNTY, Okla. – One of the suspects in a 2020 child pornography case pleads guilty
in Oklahoma County Court. Joseph Allan Rogers II
(29) plead guilty to the following charges: 3 counts
of Lewd, Indecent or Lewd Acts with a Child Under
Sixteen (16), 3 counts of Manufacturing Child Pornography, 1 count of Distributing Child Pornography,
1 count of Aggravated Possession of Obscene Materials involving the Participation of Minors Under the
Age of Eighteen (18), and 1 count of Beastiality. He
received a sentence of Life plus 20 years. Rogers’
wife, 27-year-old Cherokee White is also facing multiple charges in this case.
This investigation began in January 2020 after a Virginia ICAC unit forwarded images that were tracked
to the Jones, Okla., area. During the investigation,
OSBI Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Unit
agents determined the images were of a 14-monthold child and were taken in November 2018. That
led to arrest Joseph Rogers on May 29, 2020, the
child’s father. A forensic investigation of electronics
seized after Rogers’ arrest revealed additional sexual
assault crimes committed by both parents against
the same child as the one from the 2018 pictures.
Additionally, it was discovered the pair were violating a pet.
White was arrested on June 4, 2020, and is facing 1 charge of Lewd, Indecent or Lewd Acts with a Child Under Sixteen (16), 1 count of Manufacturing
Child Pornography and 1 count of Beastiality. Her court date is set for later
this year.
The children of Rogers and White were removed from the home at the time
of their arrest.

ILLEGAL GROW SHUT DOWN
On July 1, the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics, and Tishomingo Police
Department shut down an ILLEGAL Chinese owned, and operated marijuana grow. We seized close to
20,000 illegally grown marijuana plants, which we estimate the street value to be between 30 to 60 million
dollars. This investigation started several days ago with a traffic stop in the Town of Wapaucka. Deputies
stopped a vehicle for traffic violations, and noticed a strong odor of raw marijuana coming from the vehicle.
A probable cause search yielded a small amount of raw marijuana. Neither male subjects possessed a
valid license to possess, or transport the marijuana, and were unable to explain the large about of money,
just under $83,000.00 dollars also located in the vehicle. Both were arrested, and evidence seized as
possession of drug proceeds.
Furthering the investigation, we were able to identify the location where these individuals were growing
the marijuana. It was located on State Highway 48, approximately two miles south of the community of
Coleman, on the east side of Johnston County. This Office contacted the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics,
and were able to confirm this location did not have, and has never had a license through OBNDD to grow
medical marijuana, which is required by law. Furthermore, through our investigation the location did have
a license through the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority. However, this license appears to have been
obtained by fraudulent means.
Again, it is required by law for any legal grow operation to have both a license through OBNDD and
OMMA. It is also important that these licenses be obtained legally. All of our local growers, transporters,
dispensaries, and processors who are doing it legally know we support them, as any other legal business.
This grow was not one of them, this grow is being operated by criminals, and we believe their product
was not being sold legally and was more than likely being diverted to the black market, here in Oklahoma,
out of State and possibly out of the Country. This is a large and emerging threat to our communities, these
illegal grows as mentioned above are being operated by criminals, and the money is funneled to organized
criminal organizations. In this case it is very likely, and we believe the money is going to the Asian Mafia
criminal organizations, and possibly back to the communist state of China.
They are setting up shop in our State, trying to blend into the legal medical marijuana industry here in
Oklahoma, and continue their criminal activities. Make no mistake, other criminal organizations such as the
Mexican Drug Cartels, and Drug Trafficking Organizations are also here, circumventing the law and fueling
their criminal organizations. These criminals are usually armed, just as the grow we took down yesterday
was, as several firearms where also seized from the location.
Again, we support the folks who are involved in the legal medical marijuana industry who are following
the law. But we will continue to go after the illegal grows who take away from the legitimacy of the legal
industry, commit crimes fueling their criminal enterprise, partaking in human trafficking and other crimes,
which affect our communities and environment.
We also contacted the Drug Enforcement Administration who arrived with a portable fingerprint machine, checking all persons on sight. Based upon interviews conducted with several Asian workers at the
location, it is believed several may be here illegally, and possibly entered into our Country across what was
once our southern border. Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California are no longer border states, every
State is now a border State, and it is affecting us all. For those who say this isn’t a problem, I just laid out
several reason why these ILLEGAL grows are a threat and a problem. For those who say, you need to
focus more on those who traffic meth, heroin, and the hard drugs, you obviously don’t follow our Sheriff’s
Office very closely, because we take the fight to those criminals as well.
A huge thanks to our Johnston County Commissioners, and a special thanks to Commissioner Casey
Cribbs of District 2. They sent men and equipment to assist us in cleaning up, and shutting down this
ILLEGAL grow. I am also very proud of the work we are doing at the Sheriff’s Office, the relentless pursuit,
and never quit attitude the Sheriff’s Deputies have in going after criminals that are hurting our communities
and bringing them to justice!!!!
“We will remain relentless in
our pursuit of criminals, being
proactive and continuing to help
make Johnston County be an example, where families are proud
to live, and where businesses
want to move to. A community
that supports their law enforcement officers, the rule of law,
stands for the flag, salutes our
men and women in uniform, loves
our Country and embraces our
Patriotic and Western values and
way of life!!!

We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money
or favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting officer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.
Thank you and God Bless

A 35-year-old Holdenville man was carted off to jail
after he allegedly broke into a barbershop on July 15.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Wewoka
officers were advised that someone had broken into a
barbershop downtown. Also, EMS had transported a
man from a nearby car wash parking lot to the emergency room around the same time as the burglary.
The injured man, identified as Noah Jonathon Brandon Hodges, had a broken ankle. An officer went to
interview the man because it appeared as though
someone had fallen through the ceiling after cutting
a hole in the floor of an apartment above the barbershop.
Hodges told the officer that he broke his ankle fishing. He told the officer his account of events, but his story didn’t match up to what
another officer had witnessed. He said he had crawled and hopped into town to
get some help. The officer said he saw the man sitting at First and Mekusukey for
a bit before calling for help.
When the officer asked Hodges to take the bandage off of his foot, Hodges refused. The officer noticed a knife in the man’s waistband. Hodges refused to hand
over the weapon. When the officer informed him he was under arrest, Hodges told
the officer to call for backup because he wasn’t going to jail.
When other officers arrived to assist, Hodges gave up the knife.
The investigating officer then went to check out the scene of the crime. He found
some blood droplets, a hammer, a light worn on the head, a work glove, and an
ax. The officer also found a shoe that matched the shoe Hodges had on his left
foot. The shoe had holes in the sole that matched some nails sticking up through
boards at the crime scene.
Surveillance footage from a nearby bank showed Hodges and another man
walking in the area. When asked about the other man, Hodges initially said the
man was his son. He then changed his story and said that the man was just someone he met walking down the alley.
Hodges is being charged with burglary in the second degree. His bond was set
at $5,000, and he was scheduled to appear in court on July 29, 2021.

august is back to school
safety month
As summer draws to a close and
children start heading back to school,
family life can get pretty hectic. It’s
important to remember – and share
with your children – some key tips that
will help keep them safe and healthy
throughout the school year.
Getting to School
Whether children walk, ride their bicycle or take the bus to school, it is vitally
important that they – and the motorists around them – take proper safety precautions.
Walkers:
• Walk on the sidewalk; if there is no sidewalk and you must walk in the street,
walk facing traffic
• Before crossing the street, stop and look left, right and left again to see if cars
are coming
• Never dart out in front of a parked car
• Parents: Practice walking to school with your child, crossing streets at cros
walks when available
• Never walk while texting or talking on the phone
• Do not walk while using headphones
Bike Riders:
• Always wear a helmet that is fitted and secured properly
• Children need to know the rules of the road: Ride single file on the right side
of the road, come to a complete stop before crossing the street and walk the
bike across
• Watch for opening car doors and other hazards
• Use hand signals when turning
• Wear bright-colored clothing
Bus Riders:
• Teach children the proper way to get on and off the bus
• Line up 6 feet away from the curb as the bus approaches
• If seat belts are available, buckle up
• Wait for the bus to stop completely before standing
• Do not cross in front of the bus if possible, or walk at least 10 feet ahead until
you can see the other drivers
Drivers, Share the Road:
• Don’t block crosswalks
• Yield to pedestrians in crosswalks, and take extra care in school zones
• Never pass a vehicle stopped for pedestrians
• Never pass a bus loading or unloading children
• The area 10 feet around a school bus is the most dangerous for children; stop
far enough back to allow them to safely enter and exit the bus

THE LAW WON
A 37-year-old man wanted for a felony warrant
is facing multiple additional charges after he led
police on a high-speed pursuit that ended in the
discovery of drugs.
On July 21, Pontotoc deputies tried to serve
a felony arrest warrant on Chance Avery Shmidl.
Instead of cooperating with police, however, the
man fled the scene in an SUV.
A deputy pursued the man as he headed eastbound on State Highway 19. During the pursuit,
the suspect reached speeds above 100 mph.
Reports state Shmidl drove recklessly down
the highway, passing several vehicles in nopassing zones. At one point, the man started
throwing stuff out of the SUV – some of those
items hit a patrol vehicle.
Shmidl also kept slamming on his brakes, apparently trying to get the deputy to crash into him.
Deputies pursued Shmidl into Ada, where the man drove into the parking
lot of the Chickasaw Travel Plaza at Main Street and Latta Road. He drove
around the gas pumps and quickly reduced his speed, causing a deputy to
hit his vehicle.
Shmidl jumped out of the SUV and took off running.
An Ada police officer quickly apprehended the man, who refused to obey
officer commands. The officer deployed his taser, but Shmidl still refused to
comply. Officers placed the man in handcuffs.
Inside the stolen SUV, officers found burglary tools, a handheld radio, and
two bulletproof vests. They also located the items Shmidl had thrown out of
his vehicle during the pursuit.
Those items included several kinds of pills, a scale, empty baggies, a green
leafy substance, and a large amount of a crystal-like substance.
Shmidl was arrested and charged with trafficking illegal drugs, possession of
a stolen vehicle, endangering others while eluding/attempting to elude police
officer, and acquire proceeds from drug activity. Bond was set at $250,000.
