COPIOUS AMOUNTS OF
POT SEIZED IN POTT
COUNTY
Only a week after seizing more than 36 tons of
black-market marijuana in a single day, the Attorney General’s Organized Crime Task Force (OCTF) and Oklahoma
Medical Marijuana Authority (OMMA) have made another
major seizure, this time in Pottawatomie County.
OCTF agents and OMMA compliance inspectors and
agents served search warrants Nov. 16 at six medical marijuana grow operations near Prague.
The sweep yielded 77,362 untraceable and untagged marijuana plants, nearly 2,000 pounds
of untraceable and untagged harvested marijuana, and several firearms.
The District 23 Drug Task Force assisted in the operation.
Attorney General Gentner Drummond said the task force is dedicated to rooting out Oklahoma’s scourge of illegal marijuana operations.
“We are sending a clear message to Mexican drug cartels, Chinese crime syndicates and
all others who are endangering public safety through these heinous operations,” he said. “And
that message is to get the hell out of Oklahoma.”
The Attorney General’s office has developed a valuable working relationship with the OMMA.
“Everyone at OMMA, especially the tireless investigative and enforcement staff who spent
more than 24 hours straight on scene at this operation, works hard every day to regulate the
medical marijuana industry Oklahomans voted for,” said OMMA Executive Director Adria Berry.
“These farms hid behind the regulated industry for long enough – once we confirmed they
were operating illegally, we worked with our partners to shut them down. Attorney General
Drummond, Pottawatomie County and everyone involved showed exactly what happens when
government agencies put egos aside and work together for the greater good.”
Established through a recently enacted state law, the OCTF works closely with federal,
state, county and local law enforcement agencies to investigate crimes related to illegal marijuana grow operations, including human trafficking and the distribution of fentanyl and other
deadly drugs.
“None of this would be possible without the incredible partnerships I have with the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and local law enforcement agencies throughout the state,” said Drummond. “I greatly appreciate their hard work and professionalism in service of public safety.”
Citizens with information about suspected illegal grow operations can submit a tip to the
Office of the Oklahoma Attorney General. A complaint form is available at oag.ok.gov by clicking on the “Illegal Marijuana Tipline”. Tips also can be sent to [email protected] and
reporters can remain anonymous.

KIDNAPPING FOR EXTORTION
4 | DECEMBER 2023 POTTAWATOMIE COUNTY Presumed Innocent Until Proven Guilty
We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money
or favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting officer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.
Thank you and God Bless

AROUND THE NATION
Needin’ some down-home cookin!
For most people, prison would be something
you’d escape from and never look back if you
ever found yourself in that predicament; but for
these Texas prisoners, they just needed their creature comforts before coming
right back. According to Dallas News, an inmate who was locked up in a federal
facility in Beaumont snuck out only to get booze, tobacco, snacks, and food to
bring back with him since, you know, the food in prison is probably really bad.
And it isn’t just this one incident, either. Inmates have apparently been using
a back door to skip out to land nearby, picking up contraband left behind for
them, and coming right back. Sheriff’s Deputy Marcus McLellan recently told the
Beaumont Enterprise that inmates have been essentially making up their own
in-and-out privileges at the facility “since day 1.”
Sherrif’s deputies in Jefferson County finally realized what was happening and
laid in wait to watch it all go down. Around 5:45 PM, a duffel bag was dropped
off on the adjacent property, and around 7:30 p.m., 27-year-old Joshua Randall
Hansen was observed leaving the prison to retrieve the bag. On Hansen’s way
back into the facility after picking it up, he was arrested.
Once confiscated, the authorities said the duffel bag was full of alcohol (whiskey and brandy, specifically),
packages of tobacco, snacks,
fruits, and plenty of home cooked
food.
Hansen was already in the process of serving a little over two
years for conspiring to distribute designer drugs, but now will
likely do additional time as he faces escape and marijuana possession charges.

AN ADMISSION OF
GUILT
A Mannsville man has admitted guilt to the
beating death of his wife last year.
Cecil Browning Higginbotham, 32, entered a
guilty plea to an Information charging him with
one-count of Murder in Indian Country – Second Degree.
The Information alleged that on August 10, 2022, Higginbotham unlawfully
killed the victim with malice aforethought. At the plea hearing, Higginbotham
admitted to pushing the victim to the ground, knocking her unconscious,
and dragging her inside his residence. He then repeatedly hit and kicked
the victim, causing fatal blunt force trauma to her head and neck. The crime
occurred in Johnston County, within the boundaries of the Chickasaw Nation
Reservation, in the Eastern District of Oklahoma.
The charges arose from an investigation by the Johnston County Sheriff’s
Office, the Dickson Police Department, and the Federal Bureau of Indian Affairs.
Higginbotham was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshal pending
sentencing. JAMIE

DOPE AT THE DOLLAR
A 45-year-old Holdenville woman was arrested after authorities found a quarter pound of
methamphetamine in her vehicle on November
20.
According to reports, the Drug Task Force arrested the woman, identified as Jolene Copeland, at the Holdenville Dollar
General. They arrested her after they found the meth in her vehicle, due to a
lengthy investigation.
Several agencies, including Drug Task Force Agents, Holdenville police officers, and the Okemah K-9 unit, worked together to arrest the woman. They
allegedly found the drugs in her vehicle during a drug interdiction traffic stop.
Copeland is scheduled to appear in court on December 5, 2023.
