NOT WITHOUT A FIGHT
A wanted felon is behind bars after he allegedly
put up a fight when Pott County deputies tried to
arrest him earlier this month.
According to the Pott County Sheriff’s Office, on
April 11, deputies were called to a residence near
Asher for a welfare check. While deputies were
on scene, they learned there was a male subject
in the residence, Johnnie Byrd, who had active
felony warrants for his arrest out of Pottawatomie County and Pontotoc County.
You might remember Byrd from two years ago when he eluded and hit a deputy head on during a pursuit.
Deputies waited patiently and exhausted every option to allow Byrd to come
out peacefully. Byrd chose not to come out of the residence after several warnings. Eventually, entry was made into the residence. Less than lethal options
were utilized, but unsuccessful. During entry, Byrd threw a hammer and a knife
at one point at deputies, then took hold of a speaker and speaker wire and began throwing it around with the speaker attached.
K9 Onyx was utilized to apprehend Byrd. Byrd then assaulted K9 Onyx, by
hitting him with speaker wire in the snout and head. An assisting officer was also
assaulted as an attempt was made to arrest him. K9 Onyx and the assisting
officer are okay.
Byrd was eventually taken into custody and booked into the Jail on his warrants, assault and battery on a peace officer, assault with a dangerous weapon,
assault and battery on a police canine, resisting arrest, and obstruction. His
warrant had a bond of $100,000 and for his new charges he received a $50,000
bond.

Farmer faces jail for breeding ‘massive mutant sheep’
A farmer has been caught illegally breeding “massive” mutant sheep
to sell to private hunting reserves for up to $10,000, a court in Montana
heard.
Arthur “Jack” Schubarth, 80, who owns a 215-acre ranch in Vaughn,
Montana, pleaded guilty to criminal charges of wildlife trafficking and
conspiracy to traffic wildlife at a court in Great Falls.
Prosecutors say he illegally used tissue and testicles from wild sheep
killed by hunters in Central Asia, and the US, to breed hybrid sheep
for sale.
According to court documents, Schubarth conspired with at least five other people between 2013 and 2021 to
create a larger hybrid species of sheep that would generate high prices from shooting reserves, where people pay
to hunt captive trophy game animals.
Schubarth’s ranch specialises in the purchase, sale and breeding of “alternative livestock” such as mountain
sheep, mountain goats and various ungulates, according to prosecutors. They claimed that Schubarth secretly
brought parts of the largest sheep in the world, the Marco Polo argali sheep from Kyrgyzstan, into America.
Marco Polo males, which are native to the mountains of the Pamir region of Central Asia, can weigh more than
22 stone with horns that span more than 5ft. They are protected species internationally and the court also heard
how they are prohibited in Montana to protect native sheep from disease and hybridisation.
Prosecutors say Schubarth sent genetic material from the Marco Polo’s body parts to a lab to create cloned
embryos. He then implanted the embryos in ewes on his ranch, resulting in a single, pure genetic male Marco Polo
that he named “Montana Mountain King” or MMK, the court heard.
Court documents stated that Schubarth worked with the others to use the Montana Mountain King’s semen to
artificially impregnate various other species of ewes and create hybrid animals. He agreed to sell one offspring to
two people in Texas for $10,000, the court heard.
To move the prohibited sheep in and out of Montana, Schubarth and others forged veterinary inspection certificates, falsely claiming that the sheep were legally permitted species, the court heard. Prosecutors said Schubarth
also sold semen from the Montana Mountain King directly to sheep breeders in other states.
“This was an audacious scheme to create massive hybrid sheep species to be sold and hunted as trophies,”
said Todd Kim, assistant attorney general. “In pursuit of this scheme, Schubarth violated international law and the
Lacey Act, both of which protect the viability and health of native populations of animals.”
The Lacey Act prohibits trade in wildlife that has been taken, possessed, transported or sold in violation of
federal or state law.
Schubarth also illegally purchased genetic material from a Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep, the largest wild
sheep in North America which stand around three feet tall and can weigh over 21 stone, to traffic to buyers in other
states. He paid $400 to a hunter for the testicles from one of the wild sheep, which had been shot in Montana, to
breed more of the species and crossbreed with the argali
sheep.
“The kind of crime we uncovered here could threaten
the integrity of our wildlife species in Montana,” Ron Howell,
head of state wildlife enforcement, said.
Each count carries a maximum penalty of five years in
prison and a $250,000 fine. Sentencing for Schubarth is set
for July 11.
On a Facebook page in his name which features numerous photos of livestock, Schubarth wrote two days ago:
“We have not been able to sell sheep for about three years
now. First time in 80 plus years I’m broke.” HEATHER

A BAD EGG
A Ravia man spent his Easter Sunday evening in jail
after he had too many spirits earlier in the day.
Michael Jay Dove, 51, was charged April 4 with felony carrying firearm while under the influence, reckless
conduct with firearm, malicious injury to property - under $1000, obstructing an officer, and resisting an officer, in Johnston County District Court. Bond was set
at $100,000.
According to a press release by the Johnston County
Oklahoma Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 8:00 pm on
March 31, the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office received
a call of shots fired in the town of Ravia. The reporting party stated the neighbor had
come onto their property, appeared to be highly intoxicated, firing a weapon toward them
and believed he had struck at least one old vehicle. Deputies arrived speaking with the
reporting party, also visibly seeing physical evidence which collaborated with the story
and then attempted to make contact with the suspect.
The suspect, Dove, refused to come outside and a possible barricaded suspect situation commenced. This prompted a Tactical recall of the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Gary Dodd also requested the assistance of one of our partner agencies, the Love
County Sheriff’s Office, which was en-route with additional Sheriff’s Deputies and a newly
acquired armored vehicle, suited for just such dangerous situations.
Deputies arrived and set up a perimeter around the house and (surround and call-out)
protocol ensued. Three adults eventually exited the residence and were secured and
interviewed by Deputies. Deputies learned there were still three children in the house and
one of them possibly in the room with Dove. Call-Out procedures continued when the
Sheriff and a team of Deputies could visibly see a small child at the front screen door,
crying.
The Sheriff and multiple Deputies immediately moved to the child, rescuing him from
just inside the front door. A short time later contact was made with Dove, who appeared
to be highly intoxicated, and continued to refuse commands and to cooperate. However,
he was taken into custody without further incident, two other children were located in the
house and safely removed by Deputies.
Dove was transported to the Johnston County Jail. The other adults and children were
checked out at the scene by Deputies; they were not injured and refused medical treatment.
All the children were reunited with their mother.
“I am extremely proud of my Deputies, the advanced training we continue to send
them to and the professionalism, dedication and compassion, which they continue to
show day and night in protecting our communities,” said Sheriff Gary W. Dodd. “I would
also like to say thank you to our local Oklahoma Highway Patrol, our two local A.B.L.E.
Commission Agents and the Love County Sheriff’s Office for their willingness to assist us
and in bringing the situation to a peaceful resolution.”

AROUND THE STATE
On March 30, 2024, the Texas County Sheriff’s
Office requested the Oklahoma State Bureau of
Investigation to investigate the suspicious disappearance of 27-year-old Veronica Butler and
39-year-old Jilian Kelley.
Their vehicle was found abandoned near Highway 95 and Road L, south of
Elkhart, Kansas, in rural Texas County. OSBI special agents immediately began
investigating the vehicle and determined there was evidence to indicate foul play.
On April 13, 43-year-old Tad Bert Cullum, 54-year-old Tifany Machel Adams,
50-year-old Cole Earl Twombly, and 44-year-old Cora Twombly were arrested in
Texas and Cimarron Counties. All four individuals were booked into the Texas
County Jail on two counts of First-Degree Murder, two counts of Kidnapping,
and one count of Conspiracy to Commit Murder in the First Degree.
On April 14, the OSBI, FBI – Federal Bureau of Investigation, Texas County
Sheriff’s Department, and the Office of the Oklahoma Chief Medical Examiner
recovered two deceased persons in rural Texas County. Both individuals will be
transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office to determine identification, as well
as cause and manner of death. This is still an ongoing investigation. Anyone with
information regarding this case is asked to contact the OSBI at [email protected]

WEWOKA RESIDENT SENTENCED
TO 12 YEARS FOR ARMED ASSAULT
Darian Ty Farris, 27, of Wewoka, was sentenced to 120 months for one count of Discharging a Firearm During and in Relation to a Crime of
Violence and 30 months in custody for one count
of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon with Intent
to do Bodily Harm in Indian Country. The terms
are set to be served consecutively.
The charges arose from investigations by the
Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Oklahoma Bureau of Investigation, the
Seminole County Sheriff’s Office, the Wewoka Police Department, the Seminole
Lighthorse Police Department, and the Holdenville Police Department.
On August 10, 2023, Farris pleaded guilty to the charges.
According to investigators, in the early morning hours of March 2, 2023, Farris
approached a Wewoka residence and yelled through the front door, challenging
the occupant to a fight. When the occupant stepped outside, Farris intentionally
shot the victim in the abdomen with a firearm and fled.
Law enforcement investigating the crime issued a warrant for Farris’s arrest.
On April 18, 2023, law enforcement uncovered the outstanding warrant during a
routine traffic stop. Faced with arrest, Farris led officers on a chase at speeds in
excess of 100 miles per hour and fired upon pursuing officers.
The crimes occurred in Seminole County, within the boundaries of the Seminole Nation Reservation, in the Eastern District of Oklahoma.
Farris will remain in the custody of the U.S. Marshal pending transportation to
a designated United States Bureau of Prisons facility to serve a non-paroleable
sentence of incarceration. JESSIE

DRUG DEALING FOR DUMMIES:
CHAPTER 2
In This Chapter You Will Learn:
• Rule Number One: Don’t Be A Drug Dealer
• Rule Number Two: No Matter What, Don’t Be A Drug Dealer
• Rule Number Three: If You Are Gonna Transport Drugs Don’t Do Stupid &#!t!!
• Rule Number Four: K-9’s Can Smell Your Dope
To truly understand the importance of the four basic rules listed above, let’s look at what happened last year
to Anthony Riposta and Aaron Esposito, who not only forgot basic rule number one, but apparently didn’t follow
any of the basic rules and as such, found themselves in jail with the other drug dealers that couldn’t follow the
rules either!!
Not only did they forget the importance of not being a scumbag drug dealer, but they also forgot that if you are
going to be a drug dealer, you better not do dumb stuff like making an illegal turn. As is often the case when you
violate these simple, but yet important rules, the Deputies usually show up, a big giant dog sniffs your vehicle, and
then you get cuffed and stuffed in the back of a patrol car as we seize your illegal drugs!!
In yet another classic example of what happens when you ignore the advice provided in “Drug Dealing For Dummies”, a deputy stopped a vehicle being driven by Riposta and made contact with him and his little friend Esposito.
The deputy then gets a little help from his friends, another deputy and his K-9 deputy partner, who alerts on the
vehicle, and then Riposta and Esposito are soon on their way to jail!!
Located during a search of the vehicle on the dash were three orange pills that were subsequently determined
to be Amphetamine/Dextroamphetamine. Also located on the dash was a single broken white pill that field-tested
positive for cocaine, and 35 additional orange pills that were determined to be Amphetamine/Dextroamphetamine.
The pills were contained in a green prescription bottle with the prescribed persons’ name ripped off. The pill bottle
was located in the center console of Riposta’s vehicle, next to two prescription pill bottles with Riposta’s name on
them.
As a result of the vehicle search, Riposta was placed under arrest and charged with Possession of a Controlled
Substance and given a free ride to jail, where he got some nice, slightly used shower slides and a gift certificate for
a Honey Bun from the inmate commissary!!
Oh and his little friend Esposito…yeah he took the ride too as a lawful search of his person produced four
baggies that were hidden in his underwear that contained a clear crystal substance which field-tested positive
for methamphetamine and weighed a total of 13.7 grams. He also had two baggies containing a white powdery
substance that field-tested positive for fentanyl and weighed a total of 8.9 grams. Additionally, he had three orange
pills that were identified as Buprenorphine/
Naloxone, and five purple pills that were
identified as Alprazolam/Xanax that were
also hidden in his underpants as well!!
Esposito was subsequently placed under arrest for Trafficking in Methamphetamine and two counts of Possession of a
Controlled Substance Without Prescription.
Esposito also got a luxurious package at the
jail when he arrived, that included shower
slides, tailored striped suit, and a thorough
search by our very accommodating staff
since he likes to hide stuff in his undies!!
