A Shawnee man faces several felony charges after he tried to
torch his car because it had a flat tire.
Travis Pate, 27, was charged July 12 with fourth-degree arson and assault and battery on a police officer in Pottawatomie
County District Court.
According to the police affidavit, Pate was mad because the
car had a flat and was he out of drugs. He then poured gasoline
on the car and started throwing matches at it. When officers
were called to the home, he ran from them, jumped in the car,
locked it, and then tried to start it. A deputy finally coaxed Pate
out of the car after he threatened to bust the door’s glass.
Pate still did not go quietly. He pulled away from deputies
while they were trying to cuff him and shoved one in the chest.
A scuffled ensued and Pate tried to grab the deputy’s gun, but they eventually subdued Pate
and hauled him off to jail.
On the way to to jail, Pate confessed he had a drug problem and wanted help.
Bond was set at $10,000 and was ordered back to court Sept. 3 for his preliminary hearing.

A Tecumseh man faces felony elderly financial abuse
charges after police discovered he had written over
$20,000 worth of checks to himself from his elderly
mother’s account.
Aaron Leitz, 37, was formally charged July 3 with exploitation of an elderly person/disabled adult by deception in Pottawatomie County District Court. Bond for
Leitz was set at $20,000.
According to the police affidavit filed by Absentee
Shawnee Tribal Police Investigator Jason Brinker, he
was notified by a bank employee that Leitz had deposited
20 checks into his account over the last year, all drawn
from his mother’s account. The check amounts ranged
anywhere from $350 to $2500, totaling $20,500. The
handwriting and signature on the checks issued from Leitz’ mother’s account did
not match her handwriting, but matched his.
Leitz’ mother, who suffers from Alzheimer’s, allegedly also co-signed for a $40,000
truck for Leitz back in May.
Leitz is due back in court July 30.

I’ve touched on this subject
before, but it never hurts to revisit important topics, and with the
warm weather we are experiencing
right now, motorcycles are back out in force on the roadways. I’m
going to talk about some more ways to share the road and make
things safe from both the motorcyclist’s point of view as well as the
more common four wheeled motorists!
First, for those of you who are out riding your motorcycles,
always watch the other person, and assume they are not watching
you! Leave yourself an out and be prepared for any situation. Make
yourself seen! Try to make eye contact with other drivers, and use
your turn signals every time you change lanes or turn. “Cover”
your brakes! This does not mean to ride your brakes, just have
your hand or foot on them in case you need them. Make this a
habit and you will greatly increase your chances of getting out of a
bad situation. The acceleration capabilities of a motorcycle allow
them to gain speed much quicker than cars. Just remember that
this acceleration can carry you into a dangerous situation quicker
as well. At 60 miles per hour, you are covering over 80 feet of
roadway per second. Concentrate on the road in front of you and
avoid daydreaming. Road debris are not your friend and can get you
in trouble quickly!
Wear protective clothing! Use gloves, long sleeve shirts and
pants, and always wear boots! Skin and asphalt do not go well
together! Wear your helmet, it’s a choice in Oklahoma, but look
at the choice professional riders make...they wear them every
time! There are a lot of options out there as far as leathers,
reinforced jackets, etc. that are out there that will protect you in
case of an accident. Last, obey all laws of the state, and look into
taking a safety course designed for motorcycles. These are relatively
inexpensive and can enhance your operator skills a great deal. You
will be amazed at what you learn and you will be eager to pass this
information on to fellow riders.
Now for the four or more wheeled motorists. Be a defensive
driver. Check mirrors and blind spots before entering or leaving a
lane of traffic and at intersections. Signal your intentions before
changing lanes or merging with traffic. Allow 3 to 4 seconds when
following a motorcycle so they have time to maneuver. Road
conditions which are minor annoyances to vehicles pose major
hazards to motorcycles! Make eye contact with motorcyclists, it lets
them know you see them! Finally allow the motorcyclist a full lane
width.
Finally, these are only a few tips and suggestions to help keep
everyone safe. Most of this information comes from brochures from

Phillip Williams was an unhappy consumer.
So he stopped two Tampa, Florida, police offi -
cers, handed over his crack pipe, and asked if they
wouldn’t mind testing the crack cocaine that he’d
bought earlier, just to make sure it was the real
deal. Good news! It was. Bad news! They arrested
him.
A 17-year-old suspected arsonist approached a
car in Lambertville, Michigan, intending to siphon
gas from it. What he forgot to do was ask permission from the detective sitting in the front seat.
When Sheboygan, Wisconsin, police pulled over
a car for not having proper registration, a passenger did what many criminals do — he supplied the
cops with an alias. Bad move. Turns out, that particular alias was wanted for vehicular homicide.
Alexander D. Smith walked into an Augusta,
Georgia, bank and tried to open an account with a
$1 million bill. Great idea — except there is no such
thing as a $1 million bill.
Two machete-wielding men barged into a Sydney, Australia, bar demanding money. Because
they didn’t know the club was hosting a bikers’
meeting, one ended up in the hospital, the other
hog-tied with electrical wire.
Convicted of receiving stolen property, James
Wombles, 37, had to wear an ankle bracelet as
part of his parole. The bracelet came complete
with a GPS monitoring system that let cops track
his every move. Over the course of a few weeks,
the Riverside, Ohio, man allegedly broke into six
homes. You know where this is going — just as the
cops knew where Wombles was going. Following
the signals from his bracelet, they tracked him to
his car, where they found him sitting on the stolen
booty.
When Ellis Cleveland was arrested in Honolulu,
a detective informed him he was suspected of robbing four banks. “Four?” responded Cleveland,
according to the detective’s affi davit. “I didn’t do
four; I only robbed three banks.”

CRAPPY WAY TO GO TO JAIL
A woman taking her 7-year-old daughter to the restroom at a
Keystone Lake park saw a man looking up at her from inside a public
toilet. The man, 52-year-old Kenneth Webster Enlow, was arrested
on a Peeping Tom complaint.
Tulsa County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to White Water Park
women’s bathroom July 7 by a park ranger. The park, on the southeast
side of Keystone Dam, has toilet facilities that include a septic tank
under a cement slab. A plastic toilet seat sets over the hole that allows
access for septic service, according to an arrest report.
Deputy Brian Osman said in his arrest report that he saw Enlow
standing in the septic tank. Keystone Fire and Rescue helped Enlow climb out of the toilet
and used a fire hose to clean him off.
Enlow first told authorities his girlfriend “Angel” hit him in the head with a tire iron and
dumped him in the toilet. Enlow did not have any fresh injuries that backed up his story.
Enlow was taken to Tulsa County Jail where he was booked on a Peeping Tom complaint
and on outstanding warrants from Okmulgee County.

Grown women should know better than
to lie to police, but a Harrah woman was
arrested after she apparently thought she
could get away with it.
On July 12, a deputy with the Seminole
County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched in
reference to a domestic dispute in progress
with a firearm. He was told the “victim” had
left the residence, so he had her meet him at
the police department to get her statement.
According to the police report, Sherri
Kay Courtemanche, 51, told the deputy that
she and her husband had been in an altercation and she went to a
friend’s house to stay.
She said the “friend” (really, her victim) told her she couldn’t stay
and grabbed an axe handle and told her to leave his residence.
The deputy asked her repeatedly if he had harmed her in any way
or pointed a firearm at her and she said no.
He told Courtemanche that her statement conflicted with her earlier 911 call; she had stated that the man had beaten her and pointed
a firearm at her.
She at first tried to deny it, but when the deputy told her he had a
recording of the call, she crossed her arms, looked at the deputy with
a “hateful face” and told him that the victim was a sex offender.
He told her that he was aware of that, but it had nothing to do with
what was going on at that moment.
Courtemanche was arrested for making a false 911 call and when
she was being booked into jail, police found a cylinder full of a green,
leafy substance that field tested positive for marijuana.
Courtemanche is being charged with bringing contraband items
into a jail or penal institution, false reporting of crime and possession of controlled dangerous substance. She was issued a $9,000 appearance bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 15, 2013.

A home health worker in Wewoka has allegedly been the
constant target of 39-year-old David Dewayne Sneed’s profane
and racist rants since April.
According to the affidavit, the victim takes care of a couple
in Wewoka and Sneed lives on the couple’s property. She told
a deputy at the Seminole County Sheriff’s Department that on
June 12, Sneed came into the house where she was working
and went off on an anti-Indian tirade.
The victim said Sneed started to yell and cuss at her. He
called her a “racist b----“ and told her “this is white man’s
land,” among other bigoted things.
The victim said that Sneed had been involved in a custody
battle with Seminole Nation Court and apparently thought
that the home health worker was to blame for his woes.
She told him that she had nothing to do with the court system and he called her a “savage
f------ b----“ and told her “if you’re a Seminole Indian and in my house you’re going to get
stuck ‘cause I’m about to go off on you.”
Yes, Sneed, because all Seminoles are responsible for your custody dispute and are doing
what they can to ruin your life (insert sarcasm).
Sneed is being charged with malicious intimidation or harassment.

The OSBI is seeking the public’s
assistance in identifying the
suspect who murdered 77-year-old
Charles Nieman at the Boise City,
Oklahoma, Loaf’n Jug convenience
store on June 12. The suspect is
believed to be a Hispanic male,
5’6”-5’8”, medium build, in his
late 20s to early 30s. He was seen
fl eeing the area on foot wearing
khaki shorts and a dark-colored
t-shirt.
Agents are also seeking
information regarding a late 1990s
to early 2000s GM extended-cab pickup truck that the
suspect was seen getting out of just moments before the
shooting. The truck was occupied by two other Hispanic
males.
Within one to one and a half hours after the shooting,
both the vehicle and suspects were reported in Campo and
Springfi eld, Colorado, convenience stores approaching
individuals and asking for money to buy fuel. Witnesses
at both locations reported the truck had Louisiana license
plates. The subjects told one witness that they were traveling
to Denver, Colorado.
The OSBI is off ering up to a $5,000 reward for information
leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s)
responsible for the murder. If anyone has information in this

Anthony Rozelle Banks
An Oklahoma death row inmate set to die
in September has waived his right to seek
clemency from the state Pardon and Parole
Board.
Anthony Rozelle Banks is set to be executed
on Sept. 10. He was convicted in the 1979
rape and murder of Sun I. Kim Travis in
Tulsa County. The conviction came 20 years
after the crime because of newly discovered
DNA evidence. Banks had been serving a noparole life sentence for an unrelated killing
in which he originally had been sentenced to
death. An appeal reversed that conviction,
and he made a plea bargain to avoid death.
A co-defendant, Allen Wayne Nelson, received a life sentence.
Banks and Nelson were charged in August 1997 when the DNA of both
men was detected in evidence found on the victim.
Banks has been on death row since November 14, 1999.

A Calvin man was arrested after he invited a police officer to look inside his car
because there was “nothing illegal” inside.
On June 30, an officer with the Holdenville Police Department saw a car with a defective rear driver side taillight.
He pulled the car over and made contact
with the driver, Mark Wayne Gaddy, 52.
According to the affidavit, the officer
gathered Gaddy’s information and checked
with dispatch to make sure that his driver’s
license was valid and that he didn’t have
any warrants.
Dispatch informed that officer that Gaddy’s driver’s license was
valid and he was not a wanted man. The officer told Gaddy he was
good to go.
Usually, when people get pulled over by police, they drive off as
soon as they are told they can. Not Gaddy. He told he officer there
there was nothing illegal in his vehicle and that he was more than
welcome to look.
Of course, this raised the officer’s suspicions and he told Gaddy to
step out of his vehicle and put his hands on the hood of the patrol
car.
He conducted a pat down search and when he went to put his
hand into Gaddy’s left pocket, the man jerked away.
The officer informed Gaddy that if he lifted his hands from the
hood again, they were going to have some issues and reached into
his pocket.
He found a wadded up cigarette package that contained a large
baggie with a white powdery substance in it. The white substance
field-tested positive for meth.
Gaddy is being charged with possession of methamphetamine
and his bond was set at $25,000. He is scheduled to appear in court
on Aug. 13, 2013.
Attorney General Scott Pruitt’s Victim Services Unit reminds
crime victims in Oklahoma to register with the Victim Information
and Notification Everyday (VINE) program to receive inmate
alerts.
The reminder comes after concerns related to media reports
of possible inmate releases due to a recent court decision on the
state’s sex offender registry.
“Victims of crime can be impacted by hearing stories of even
possible release of offenders, and they need instant access to
information to determine their location,” Pruitt said. “Victims of
crime don’t deserve to be victimized twice.”
The Victim Information and Notification Everyday (VINE)
program is a free and anonymous service that allows Oklahomans
to register and be notified about changes in the status of Oklahoma
inmates. The service notifies participants with inmates’ current
status information such as general release date, escape, returns
from escape, death, out to court and unsupervised custody. VINE
offers multiple ways to receive notifications.
The newest way to receive VINE notifications is through the
Attorney General’s VINEmobile app, which allows victims of crime
and the public to use smart phones or tablets to receive alerts.
The AG’s VINE notification program provides free instant access
to information 24 hours a day year-round. VINE transfers data
every 15 minutes from county jails. Data from the state Department
of Corrections and probation and parole is processed each evening.

On June 16, a deputy with the Okfuskee County Sheriff’s Department
was dispatched to a Paden residence
to investigate reports of a burglary.
The owner of the property showed the
deputy a bedroom window that had
been pushed inward. According to
the affidavit, it looked as though the
intruder/s had made themselves at
home inside the residence.
The air conditioner had been turned
down and someone had made popcorn. There were three empty bottles
of Mike’s Hard Lemonade and an empty bottle of beer in the trash. The
deputy also found two red solo cups in the bathroom. The items were taken
for evidence.
An Ipod and Apple docking station and a 4-wheeler had apparently been
taken from the residence.
Lab results revealed that there were three male DNA profiles on the evidence. The sample taken from the beer bottle matched a swab taken earlier
from a man.
He told police that he and two friends had been walking when they saw a
broken window on the house. They climbed in, drank a little and took the
4-wheeler for a spin.
He said they left the 4-wheeler in the woods near a cemetery when they
were done riding it. The ATV was later recovered.
Police brought Joshua Robert Morrison, 24, in for questioning and he
told police he wasn’t sure who had taken the items from the house.
He said they went outside and the two other men broke into the shed
where the ATV was. Morrison said he told them to put it back and they kept
walking.
The deputy told Morrison that his story didn’t match the other man’s and
Morrison said, “Something’s coming back to me.”
He admitted that the three men had ridden around the property, but insisted that they had put the ATV back in the shed before leaving.
The third member of this troublesome trio told police that they drove the
ATV around the property for approximately 10 minutes after breaking into
the shed.
The next day, Morrison called him and told him to meet him at the
4-wheeler trails. He met Morrison and saw that the ATV was at the trails,
