Shawnee man Richard Morris Codopony Jr., 44, allegedly
chugged a beer in front of an officer after a high-speed chase
through town. Maybe he just didn’t want to go to jail sober!
On June 23, a Shawnee officer was leaving a restaurant in the
100 block of W. MacArthur Street when he heard some squealing tires. When he went to investigate, he didn’t see a car, but
a woman ran up to him and told him a drunk driver almost hit
her in the parking lot. She pointed out the vehicle to the officer.
Police approached the vehicle and made contact with the
driver, identified as Codopony. The officer asked him what he was doing -- Codopony ignored him.
The engine was turned off, but Codopony appeared to be trying to turn it on by
using the radio.
The officer noticed a few beer cans in the man’s passenger seat. He asked Codopony how much he had had to drink. Codopony replied, “I’m OK.” He then started his car and took off driving.
Officers weren’t far behind Codopony, and they pursued the man as he drove
down Market Street at a high rate of speed.
According to the police report, Codopony eventually came to a stop in the
driveway of a residence on Emerald Court. An officer approached Codopony’s
vehicle and told the man to get out of the car. Codopony responded by grabbing
a beer and chugging it. He refused to exit his vehicle and continued to drink his
beer, even as the officer was trying to pull him out of the car. The officer tased
the man, but Codopony just pulled a probe out. The officer tased him again, and
police were finally able to place the man in handcuffs.
Codopony is being charged with endangering others while attempting to elude
police officer, driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, driving with license revoked, resisting an officer and transporting opened container
of beer. He was released on a $4,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court
on August 8, 2015.

Recent Arrests For Okfuskee County
Weleetka man Jason Birt Panoske, 32, was arrested
July 12 after he took police on a drunken high-speed
chase and ran a roadblock.
Apparently, he wasn’t too happy because police interrupted him and a woman.
According to the affidavit, an Okfuskee County deputy
was traveling southbound on CR N3890 shortly after
midnight when he saw a vehicle sitting near a bridge.
As he approached the vehicle, its lights came on and it
started traveling south at a slow speed.
The deputy noticed that the vehicle’s tag lights were
out.
The deputy turned on his lights in an attempt to stop the vehicle, but the vehicle just sped up.
The pursuit was on!
The driver, later identified as Panoske, drove through some intersections without stopping and almost hit two people who were fishing off of a bridge.
Police set up a roadblock, but Panoske drove right through it, almost hitting an
officer and his patrol car.
Officers fired at Panoske’s tires, but the man still failed to slow down. That is,
until, he realized one of his tires was flat. He came to a stop about a quarter of a
mile from where the roadblock was located.
The deputy approached the vehicle and ordered Panoske out of the truck. A
woman was sitting in the passenger seat, crying hysterically.
Panoske appeared to be intoxicated; police found some beer in his truck. Panoske told the deputy that he was going to prison for a long time, because he was on
probation for a first degree rape charge. He said the woman in his car had nothing to do with what happened.
When they arrived at the jail, the deputy asked Panoske, “Why did you run?”
Panoske replied that he was asking himself the same question.
The deputy then asked Panoske what they were doing down by the bridge.
Panoske said, “I was trying to get laid.”
Panoske is being charged with running a roadblock, endangering others while
eluding police officer, driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, transporting opened container of beer and assault with a dangerous weapon.
His bond was set at $23,500, and he is scheduled to appear in court on August
13, 2015.

Marshall County, Alabama, Sheriff Scott Walls said a burglary suspect got more than he bargained for when he attempted to flee deputies
across a field belonging to a particularly ornery bull on July 8.
Walls said it started around 8 a.m. at a residence on Baldwin Drive
in Arab, Ala. The owner of a home on that street came home and found
a truck in his yard belonging to two people who were burglarizing his
home. The homeowner immediately called the Sheriff’s Office and
chased the suspects as they ran away.
A short time later, Sheriff Walls said deputies and Arab Police located
the suspect’s vehicle and pursued it to the Union Grove area, where the
truck crashed.
“The driver, Brad Lynn Hemby, 26, of Boaz, fled across a cow pasture
and grabbed the attention of a bull roaming the field. The bull also gave chase along with deputies,” Walls said.
With more on his mind than jail at that moment, Hemby continued to run. Bad turned to worse
for him when he fell into a barbed wire fence. He immediately surrendered to deputies, Walls said.
The female passenger in Hemby’s truck ran into a wooded area not occupied by a bull and has
not been located at this time.
After the arrest, deputies recovered stolen property from Hemby’s truck, Walls said. Hemby is
charged with burglary, theft, and attempting to elude. Deputies continue to search for the passenger.

Police arrested a Holdenville woman on
July 6 after they noticed that a stolen vehicle had been sitting in front of her house
for a couple of months.
37-year-old Terri Dawn Harjo told police
she didn’t know the vehicle was stolen --
but she refused to answer questions about
the suspect who stole it.
According to the police report, a Holdenville officer was patrolling on Lou Drive at
approximately 3:53 p.m. when he noticed a
vehicle parked in front of a residence. The vehicle had been parked
there for a couple of months. When he checked the tag, he was advised the vehicle was reported stolen out of Fresno, California.
The officer spoke to three males who walked out of the residence,
and one of them told the officer the vehicle belonged to his mom’s
boyfriend. He said his mom was at work.
Police went to Harjo’s work and asked her whose car it was. She
said she didn’t know.
When an officer told her he knew the car had been sitting in front
of her residence for a couple of months, she said it belonged to a guy
she let stay at her house, but she didn’t know his real name.
An officer then asked her the man’s race -- she said she didn’t
know. She later said he was a black male, which matched the description of the car thief.
She refused to answer more questions about him.
Since the stolen vehicle was at her residence and she was letting
the suspect stay at her house, police placed the woman under arrest.
Harjo is being charged with possession of stolen vehicle. Her bond
was set at $3,500, and she is scheduled to appear in court on July
21, 2015.

A “messed up” Wewoka man was arrested after he
terrorized several people on July 9. John Leroy Pruitt
III, 38, reportedly ran into one man’s garage and
threatened to kick another’s ass.
According to the police report, a Wewoka officer was
stopped at 7th and Mekusukey by a man who told him
a man “had just run in on him in his garage and was
bad messed up.” He said the man had taken off running
west on 7th Street.
The officer headed that way, and he found an incoherent Pruitt stumbling up the street, waving his arms
around and yelling that he couldn’t breathe. He placed
the man in handcuffs and called EMS to make sure he
was OK.
Police then transported Pruitt to jail.
One of the victims said he was cleaning out his garage when Pruitt ran in. The
man said he yelled at Pruitt to get out. Pruitt then fell to the ground and started
screaming that he couldn’t breathe. The man said Pruitt appeared to be holding
his breath.
When the man pulled out his phone to dial 911, Pruitt ran toward the man’s
home and started beating on his door. The man told Pruitt he couldn’t do that;
Pruitt told the man he was going to “f--- him up.”
The victim said he was able to chase Pruitt off his property.
Pruitt then ran to another house and disturbed a man who was eating lunch in
the back room of his house. The man said Pruitt started pounding on his door and
yelled that he was going to whip the man’s ass. After the man threatened to shoot
Pruitt, he took off running.
Pruitt is being charged with threaten to perform act of violence, burglary in the
second degree and attempted burglary in the first degree. He was released on a
$15,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on August 6, 2015.

your home until he provides the paper work staying he has that right! So she was not in the
wrong as she closed “HER” door! The officer also did not state what he was arresting her
for? Hmm some bs right there! It isn’t a right to arrest there has to be a reason stating while
in the process of cuffing someone! Talk about literally stepping on her rights just because
he has a badge!!

Cassi G: I wasn’t naked but this reminds me of when I had my second child and an
officer came into my room 3 hours after I had a c-section, yelling at me, and telling me if
I wasn’t laying in a hospital bed, I would be arrested. He kept saying he had court papers
signed by a judge that my first child was to be with his father at that time, when those
papers were never signed. When I asked to see the signed papers, he told me they were evidence and I wasn’t allowed to see them. My heart was pounding on the monitor. The other
officer with him didn’t say anything during the incident, but confronted him when they left
the room. He checked the papers and saw they weren’t signed. Came back the next day to
apologize and told their boss about the incident. I filed a report but nothing ever happened
to the officer. That was a horrible situation! A moment that should have been filled with
joy, completely shattered by nonsense.

A woman handcuffed while naked by a police officer
who entered her home illegally is planning to file a lawsuit against the city. “I felt helpless. I felt violated. And
honestly, I felt molested,” said Esmeralda Rossi. The incident was captured on cellphone cameras.
Police records said Rossi was trying to agitate the officer
but an investigation found that he did, in fact, enter the
home illegally. What would you do?

When an Ada man caught another man in bed with his
fiancee, he allegedly dragged the naked man outside and hit
him in the head with a tequila bottle.
19-year-old Tyler William Hatley was arrested for assault
after the July 10 attack.
According to the police report, an Ada officer was dispatched to the 600 block of W. 12th shortly after 2 a.m. to
investigate an assault. When he arrived, he saw a man lying
in the ground with blood on his hands, face and head. There
was also a large amount of blood around the man.
A group of people was standing around the man -- one of them identified himself as Hatley. Hatley told the officer when he got home from work, he found the
victim in bed with his fiancee, so he hit the man.
Hatley’s fiancee told police she and the victim were drinking tequila, and they
had sex. She said they put the tequila bottle on the night stand. They fell asleep
and were woken up when Hatley came home from work. Hatley and the victim
fought. She said she later realized the tequila bottle was missing from the night
stand.
The officer transported Hatley to jail.
Hatley agreed to speak to the officer. He said he got off work early, and when
he arrived at home, the bedroom door was locked. So, he opened it with a butter knife and found his fiancee and the victim naked and asleep. He said he hit
the victim with his fist, threw him in the floor and hit him some more. He then
dragged the naked man to the porch.
Hatley said he went back inside and asked his fiancee about the tequila bottle
on the night stand. He then took the bottle outside and hit the victim in the head.
Hatley is being charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. His
bond was set at $5,000. Court date was unknown at time of print.

Well, it took long enough, and I’m not
complaining about that, but the heat has finally
arrived!
Whether its at the lake, pool, or any of the numerous other activities to be
found throughout this great state, there are plenty of ways to beat the heat! Since
summertime travel is a big part of this I thought I would touch on the way heat
can affect your traveling plans, and some tips to help you!
First, be prepared. Cars suffer in the heat just like we do. If and when
they break down, you’ll want to be ready. Be familiar with your emergency
equipment in your vehicle. This means learn where your jack, spare tire, and
tire tool are. Learn how to use them. Figuring that out on the side of the road
at 102 degrees is no fun at all. The owner’s manual of your vehicle has a section
on roadside emergencies that can help you figure out where the emergency
equipment is stored, and tips on how to use it. Learn the steps to change a
flat! Although we will be happy to help you if you are broken down, we aren’t
always close, and may not be able to get to you for a long period of time. If you
know how to get yourself out of a roadside emergency, that’s less time you’ll
spend in the heat.
Take lots of water with you if you are going on a trip, especially if it’s a long
one. Have a cell phone with you so you can call for help if you need it. Be aware
of your surroundings when driving, so you can give the person you call for help
an accurate location for where you are. Also, if you can get your car to a place of
shade, do so. Temperatures can be up to 20 degrees cooler in a place of shade
such as an overpass or large trees.
Lastly, make sure your car is maintained properly. Ever notice how many
pieces of tires you see on the roadway during the summer? The heat is hard
on tires, so make sure they are properly inflated and have good tread. If your
tread is worn, get them replaced! The pavement those tires are rolling on is even
hotter than the thermometer is showing! Visually check your belts, and make
sure all your fluids are filled up. That ounce of prevention can keep you from
being stuck on the side of the road in 100 plus temperatures.
Preparing for roadside emergencies in the heat is just as important as it is in
the winter, but it seems like we just don’t prepare the same for it. Just a few
minutes of learning how to change a flat, packing in a case of water, and being
aware of your surroundings can keep a bad day from being a whole lot worse!

We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money or
favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting
offi cer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.
