A Shawnee police officer was
treated at a local hospital Oct.
20 after he was injured during
a fight with a man he tried to
arrest for a stolen motorcycle.
The man, 30-year-old Derek
Park, was taken into custody
and charged Nov. 4 with
assault and battery on a police
officer, unauthorized use of
a vehicle, and possession of
CDS in Pottawatomie County
District Court.
According to the police
affidavit, Officer Michael Myers
had stopped Park for a traffic violation when he discovered
the motorcycle Park was driving had been reported stolen.
Park took off running, but Myers tacked him about 100 yards
away. Myers was then forced to tase Park, but the zap did not
phase Park one bit.
Myers and Park struggled for a few minutes until backup
arrived. It took several officers, another tasing, and two
residents from a nearby house to finally get Park under
control and into custody.
During the fight, two small bags of marijuana and
prescription pills fell out of Park’s pockets.
Myers was treated and released from Shawnee Regional
Medical Center for injuries he sustained during the fight.
Park was transported to the Pottawatomie County Safety
Center and booked into jail. Bond was set at $25,000 and he
was ordered to appear in court Nov. 26 for his preliminary
hearing.

Eighteen-year-old Brittany
Phillips was a student who
was taking courses at Tulsa
Community College and was
days away from her 19th
birthday. She was described as a
bubbly, happy person who had
no known enemies, the type of
girl who always kept in contact
with family and friends and was
always responsible, taking her
school work seriously. So it was
surprising when she suddenly stopped showing up to TCC
and couldn’t be reached by phone.
On October 1, 2004, after a couple days of missed classes,
a concerned friend decided to stop over Brittany’s apartment
at Union Apartments, where she was living alone. She walked
into a horrifying scene, Brittany’s decomposing body. She
had been laying there for several days.
The last time anyone had contact with Brittany was on the
evening of September 27, 2004. Sometime during the latenight hours of 09/27/04 and the early-morning hours of
09/28/04, an unidentifi ed man was in her apartment. It is
unknown if he was invited in or broke in. She was assaulted,
raped and then strangled to death and he left her bruised and
battered body lying on her bed in her second fl oor apartment.
Since her murder, authorities have interviewed MANY
people and have compared thousands of DNA with no luck.

home from a church event called eternal fraternity. It’s something for kids to

A 12-year-old Wagoner boy was killed Nov. 9 by a driver suspected of being under the influence of alcohol. Chief
of Police Bob Haley said the boy was riding home with his
brother when he was hit by an SUV.
Haley said the two brothers were northbound on North
Story Avenue near N.E. Ninth Street just before 11 p.m. Billy
Lord, 12, was struck by a northbound SUV driven by Richard Roth of Wagoner.
Roth left the scene but later returned, Haley said.
The other brother was not injured.
Haley said Roth, 34, was booked on anticipated charges of manslaughter
and leaving the scene of a personal injury accident. Any other charges will
await the results of a blood test, but police do have reason to suspect alcohol
is a factor, he said.

Drugged Driving Prevention
• All drivers must understand that drugged driving is as dangerous as drunk driving and
that driving under the influence of certain prescription medications is considered impaired
driving.
• As with a drunk driver, never ride in a car with a driver you suspect is under the influence.

• Designate a sober driver before celebrations begin.
• Never serve those under the age of 21 alcohol.
• Plan safe parties, including providing non-alcoholic drink options to guests and not
serving alcohol the last hour of the gathering.

A Wewoka man is being held in the Seminole County jail
after he allegedly shot a man after an argument.
DeAndre Henderson, 29, was charged Nov. 13 with four
counts of shooting with intent to kill, possession of a firearm
AFCF, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and
domestic abuse- assault and battery, in Seminole County
District Court.
According to the police affidavit, Henderson shot at
the victim’s vehicle four times. One of the bullets passed
through the windshield and struck the victim in the right
shoulder.
Police found three live rounds and four spent .40 caliber
shell casings in the road where the victim said Henderson
was standing when he was shooting.
The victim was transported to Seminole Integris Hospital
where he was treated and released.
Police found the vehicle involved in the shooting a short time later at Stardust Bar and
questioned the driver. She said she was with Henderson during the shooting. She had
tried to leave the scene when Henderson got out of the vehicle with a gun, but he quickly
fired the rounds and got back into the vehicle.
Henderson was later found at a home in Wewoka and taken into custody.

This month’s Tips is less of a tip
than it is a serious request for help
from you, the motoring public. I would like to make a personal
appeal to each and every reader who sees this to help us Troopers
try to eliminate one of the toughest jobs that we ever have to do. It
is something that everyone who drives can have an impact on.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is tasked with the investigation
of motor vehicle accidents on the public roadways outside the city
limits in the State of Oklahoma. In the course of this, we investigate
a huge number of fatalities. For each fatality victim, it is the duty
of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol to personally notify the next of
kin. For each life lost, there is a knock on a door somewhere, where
an OHP Trooper has to deliver news that will forever change the
lives of the person or persons on the other side. Sadly, these knocks
on the door could have been prevented by somebody involved in
the accident. Sometimes it’s the person who died whose unsafe or
unlawful action caused the accident that took their life. Often times
it is not.
Each and every Trooper you see working the roads every day has
had to knock on that door. I think if you asked, every single one
would tell you this is the worst aspect of our job. Trying to prevent
this is one of the reasons we do what we do. We know if we work
hard, we can stop some of these knocks. We also know the motoring
public can help us stop some of these knocks as well. The following
are just a few ways for you to do your part to help.
First and foremost, obey the law. It really doesn’t matter if
your personal opinion of the rules of the road don’t make sense,
or shouldn’t apply in certain situations. Each one of them is
designed for us to travel safely on the road. Slow down, and give
your full, undivided attention to the road. Watch out for the other
driver. When you see something happening ahead of you, slow
down! “I was late”, or “I was texting” just doesn’t cut it as responses
to a grieving family when they ask why this happened. Is it
something you could live with if it was your reason for taking a life?
The people on the other side of that knock aren’t the only ones
affected by the experience. We Troopers have all held strangers as
the initial horror and shock of the news takes hold of them. We
have all prayed with families we just met, and asked if we could have
done more to prevent it. Each and every day we are trying to stop
The Knock. Now I’m asking you to help us. Thanks for reading,

On Friday, October 18, an Oklahoma Internet Crimes Against
Children Task Force member from the Edmond Police Department
arrested Stephen DeWayne Huckeba, 52, at his residence. The case
was initiated by an Edmond detective into the distribution of child
pornography on the Internet. Huckeba distributed more than a
dozen child pornography videos to the detective.
Task force members from the Edmond Police Department,
Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, Oklahoma Attorney
General’s Office, with the assistance of the Logan County Sheriff’s
Office, served a search warrant at Huckeba’s residence, 200 East
Rock Circle Drive in southern Logan County.
During the search of the residence, several computer-related items
were located and seized. Huckeba admitted to the Edmond detective that he distributed and
possessed child pornography images and videos.
The computer items will be taken to the Edmond police computer laboratory for forensic
examination. The case is still under investigation to determine if any local children are in any
of the images.
Huckeba was booked into the Logan County Jail and is charged with one count of
distribution of child pornography, one count of possession of child pornography, and
violation of the Oklahoma Computer Crimes Act.

Miguel Angel Gutierrez-Carranza, 29,
of Mexico, pled guilty to Illegal Reentry of
Previously Deported Alien Subsequent to
Conviction for an Aggravated Felony.
The charges are a result from an investigation
by the Department of Homeland Security –
Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The
defendant was indicted in September, 2013.
The Indictment alleged that on or about
August 28, 2013, the Defendant, an alien, was
found in the United States after having been
deported and removed from the United States
on or about December 3, 2011, at or near Del
Rio, Texas, subsequent to a conviction for
an aggravated felony in the District Court of
Hughes County, Oklahoma.
The defendant will remain in the custody of the United States Marshal
Service pending sentencing.
The statutory range of punishment is up to 20 years imprisonment,
and/or up to a $250,000.00 fine and deportation.
