An 18-year-old Shawnee man on at ATV was arrested after he tried to speed away from an officer on
October 28. Even though he reached nearly 100 mph,
Kyle Dale Haddox couldn’t get away from the officer.
According to the police report, a Pottawatomie deputy was traveling southbound on Kings Road from
Hardesty when he saw an ATV traveling northbound
on Kings Road around 2:35 p.m. The ATV was traveling at a high rate of speed, and that wasn’t okay.
The deputy turned on his emergency lights in an attempt to get the 4-wheeler to slow down, but the driver, identified as Haddox, didn’t slow down at all; he
just kept going. In fact, he went even faster.
When Haddox drove past the deputy, he accelerated and continued north on
Kings Road. The deputy turned on his sirens and pursued the man. Haddox was
going extremely fast, reaching speeds of 91 mph. He also looked back at the deputy several times during the chase. The man turned east on River Road, reaching
71 mph.
Haddox then turned south on Crosslin Road before eventually coming to a
stop. The deputy ordered the man to the ground and told him he was under arrest. Haddox was placed and handcuffs and transported to jail.
Haddox is being charged with attempting to elude a police officer, speeding and
operating prohibited vehicle on street. He was released on a $5,000 bond and is
scheduled to appear in court on December 31, 2015.

Recent Arrests For Okfuskee County Signs, signs, everywhere there’s signs
An Okemah man was caught stealing some weird weapons from an abandoned
house on November 14. 28-year-old Jeffrey Mark Hart told police that the owner
gave him permission to take the stuff.
The problem with that is the owner didn’t.
An Okemah police officer went to the home in the 600 block of N. Fifth Street
shortly after 5 p.m. due to a suspicious person crawling into a window. When he
arrived, he found a bike and leather jacket behind the house.
The house was covered in “no trespassing” signs, and all of the windows were
boarded up except one. The officer could hear something inside of the residence,
so he shined his light through the open window. He saw a man jump around the

The officer told the man to come outside, or he was going to come in. Hart exited the building holding a pair of nunchakus, a throwing star, a pocketknife and
a necklace. In the man’s pocket, the officer found two flashlights, two lighters, a
pair of gloves and a pair of pliers.
Hart told the officer that the owner gave him permission to go into the residence. He said he used to visit the house and he saw the owner at a grocery store.
The owner then gave him permission to take stuff from the boarded-up property.
The officer contacted the actual owner who told him no, Hart was not supposed
to be inside the house.
Hart was arrested and transported to jail.
Hart is being charged with burglary in the second degree. His bond was set at
$5,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on December 1, 2015.

Holdenville man Kyle Wayne
Couffer, 32, thought he had it all figured out when he started stealing from
Walmart and taking the stolen stuff to
a pawn shop. Unfortunately for him,
a pawn shop employee thought something might be wrong, and he called
the police.
According to the affidavit, a Holdenville officer was dispatched to the pawn
shop in late September because a man
kept bringing in brand new items. He
viewed surveillance of the man, but he
was unable to get the correct timing as
to when the suspect pawned the items.
On October 24, the officer was notified that a man identified as
Couffer was caught shoplifting two pairs of pants and a hoodie at
Walmart.
This wasn’t Couffer’s first experience with five finger discounts,
however. The mystery was about to be solved!
During his arrest, Couffer wrote a statement admitting that he had
stolen numerous items from the store before, including LeapFrog
LeapPads, computers, a drill set and fishing reels. He said he wasn’t
sure about the exact dates, but he took the items to the pawn shop.
The officer went back to the pawn shop and retrieved Couffer’s
pawn tickets – they matched the items he admitted to stealing from
Walmart.
Couffer pawned the items over six different visits to the pawn
shop, ranging from September 17 to November 7.
Couffer is being charged with five counts of false declaration of
ownership to a pawnbroker. He was released on a $5,000 bond and
is scheduled to appear in court on December 1, 2015.

Deaths in crashes involving drunk drivers with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08+ dropped in 2010, but despite this decrease, there were still 10,228 lives lost – that’s
one person every 51 minutes. That makes it everyone's problem.
It seems that many people were doing their part to put a
stop to this completely preventable epidemic. Alcohol-related traffic fatalities reached a low point in the late 1990s.
Research also indicates that 62% of Americans exposed to the now-iconic Friends Don't Let
Friends Drive Drunk campaign have personally intervened to stop someone from driving
drunk, no doubt saving countless lives.
However, since the late 90's, alcohol-related driving deaths have been steadily increasing.
It seems that though the campaign was very successful, it did not change the behavior of
many potential impaired drivers. Many thought the messages to be targeted at overtly drunk
drivers, and not them. When decision time came, they would consider themselves merely
"buzzed" and get behind the wheel.
The new PSAs created to address this gap were released in December 2005 with the objective to inspire dialogue and recognition of the dangers of "buzzed" driving and subsequently,
to motivate people to stop driving buzzed. The next installment expands on this message,
equating buzzed driving and drunk driving and demonstrating the devastating consequences
that can occur as a result of buzzed driving. The overall campaign hopes to educate people that
consuming even a few drinks can impair driving and that Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving.

The term “outgunned” doesn’t quite do this story justice. Derrick Mosley strolled into
a discount gun store with a baseball bat, smashed a glass display case and tried to steal
a firearm. Yes, he tried to rob a gun shop with a baseball bat. What happened next? The
manager pulled out a gun of his own, pointed it at Derrick and kept him in the crosshairs
until the police arrived. Don’t be too hard on yourself Derrick. Guns in a gun store? Nobody could have anticipated that.
A customer at Applebee’s handed a waitress her own stolen driver’s license in an attempt to order alcohol. The culprit was a 26-year-old woman, so she didn’t need to use
a fake ID to buy her margarita anyway, but we’ll set that aside. Kudos to the waitress,
who remained calm, told the customer she was off to get her drink and called the police
instead.
Getaway cars are just for the movies. Real criminals use getaway donkeys. A trio of
Columbian robbers in the exotic sounding town Juan de Acosta loaded stolen rum, rice,
tuna and sardines onto Xavi, a 10-year-old donkey. It was all going to plan, but then the
donkey starting “heehawing”. Loudly. The racket alerted police to the robbery and the
burglars ran.

Seminole man Tyler Wayne Streater, 20, said he
tried to set his brother’s clothes on fire because his bro
borrowed his shoes and never returned them.
The shoes were in his room the entire time – meth
was to blame.
On November 1, a Seminole County deputy was dispatched to a residence on Old Highway 99 shortly after
3 p.m. because Streater was trying to burn down his
house. According to the affidavit, Streater told the officer that he let his brother borrow his Vans. When he
asked for his shoes back, the brother wouldn’t return
them, so Streater took his sibling’s book as ransom.
When that still didn’t work, Streater grabbed some
of his brother’s clothes and poured oil on them to burn them. He said his brother
then stopped him and chased him around the house.
One problem – the brother wasn’t even home.
Streater’s dad told the deputy that his son was high on meth, and he often hallucinated when he was on the drug. He said his other son (the brother) had been
at work the entire day.
The brother’s clothes were in the kitchen with bottles of oil, and Streater’s Vans
were in his room.
Streater admitted to being high. He told the deputy he ate some meth the night
before. The deputy asked him why he consumed meth right after leaving rehab.
Streater said he did it because he wanted to go back.
He went back to jail, anyways.
Streater is being charged with fourth-degree attempted arson, inhaling/ingesting toxic vapors and threaten to perform act of violence. No bond was set, and he
was scheduled to appear in court on November 19, 2015.

An Ada man was arrested October 25 after he
reportedly stabbed another man with a fork.
Jake Ryan Hughes, 44, injured the man so badly that he had to be airlifted to an Oklahoma City
hospital.
According to the affidavit, a Pontotoc County
deputy was dispatched to the 2300 block of Meandering Way around 12:59 p.m. to investigate
the incident. The victim said when he walked out
of his home, Hughes was at the house next door.
Hughes “mouthed off” to him and said, “Yeah,
you’re a f------ badass.”
The victim said he retorted to the victim, “Yeah,
you’re pretty tough too.” He said Hughes then walked away. The victim got
into his truck and left his home.
When he returned, he drove past Hughes -- Hughes flipped him off. The
victim stopped his truck, jumped out and said something to Hughes. He said
he couldn’t remember what he said, but it must have really pissed Hughes off.
The man yelled, “Everybody needs to come outside and watch me kill this
motherf——.” The victim said Hughes then stabbed him in the neck with a
novelty knife. He described it as a stainless steel double-edged forked knife.
He said Hughes then put the knife in his pocket and walked away.
Police went to Hughes’s residence and spoke to the suspect’s mom and sister. They said they had a video of the incident. It didn’t really show much
-- just Hughes and the victim in the front yard. Around 12:50 p.m., the video
showed the suspect leave his home. About 8 minutes, later, the victim returned to his home.
A witness told police that she heard Hughes tell the victim he almost ran
over his dog. She said Hughes then told the man, “I’ll kill you right now.”
The woman said Hughes then walked up to the victim and hit him -- she
didn’t know that the suspect allegedly stabbed the victim.
Hughes is being charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. His bond was set at $50,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on
November 18, 2015.
