concrete evidence
28-year-old McLoud man Christopher Leondous
James Maddux allegedly assaulted a man during an altercation on January 2.
According to the police report, a Pottawatomie County deputy was dispatched to 4 Antler Boulevard shortly
after 6 a.m. to investigate an assault. McLoud police
officers responded to the scene first, where they found
a man who had been assaulted. The man said Maddux
hit him with concrete attached to a pole.
The victim said he was supposed to be meeting a
woman who lived at that residence. When she didn’t
reply to his texts, he drove to the location. He saw Maddux in the car with the woman; Maddux wasn’t supposed to be at the residence. At some point, Maddux
exited the vehicle and hit the victim in the face with the
concrete and pole and he fell to the ground. When he
tried to get up, Maddux would hit him again.
The man had a large laceration on the top of his forehead and head, and there was
also some blood on the snow-covered ground.
Maddux had left the scene and traveled to Tulsa with the woman. No one called an
ambulance or tried to help the victim. The victim was taken to the hospital, where he
was treated for his injuries. Medical staff advised that the man had some bleeding on
his brain.
The next day, officers detained Maddux at the residence at approximately 11:51
a.m. He told police that the victim assaulted the woman, so he hit the victim with his
hands to defend her.
The deputy advised him that due to the victim’s injuries, there was no way he only
used his hands. Maddux never admitted to using an object to hit the victim.
The woman said she didn’t call for help, because she didn’t know the victim was
wounded that badly. She said the victim assaulted her. She also tried to break up the
men when they were fighting. She said she didn’t know what to do, so she drove to
Tulsa with Maddux.
While searching the residence, deputies found a concrete block with a pipe sticking
out of it.
Maddux is being charged with assault, battery, or assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. His bond was set at $20,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on
February 23, 2021.

A convicted child predator is facing an additional
charge after another victim comes forward.
In January 2020, 75-year-old Lester Vincent Lay
pleaded guilty to one count of Child Sexual Abuse. The
charge stemmed from allegations by a 13-year-old female that Lay sexually abused her in July 2019. The
abuse was reported to the Okmulgee County Sheriff’s
Office by the girl’s mother and the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) was requested to assist
with the investigation. The Okmulgee County District
Attorney’s office filed charges against Lay and he was
arrested by OSBI agents in October. After pleading
guilty, Lay received a ten year sentence in the Oklahoma Department of Corrections.
In March 2020, the Okmulgee County Sheriff’s Office
requested the OSBI assist with an investigation after another teenage girl reported
being molested by Lay. The abuse occurred between 2014 and 2018 when the girl
was between the ages of 9 and 12. In an interview, Lay admitted to OSBI agents
that he inappropriately touched the girl. In December 2020, the Okmulgee County
District Attorney filed one charge of Child Sexual Abuse against Lay.
If you suspect your child has had inappropriate contact with Lay, contact the
OSBI immediately at (800) 522-8017 or [email protected].

the need for weed
Ada woman Gloria Stephanie Cochran, 33,
is being charged with embezzlement after
she allegedly gave away nearly $300 worth of
marijuana while working at a dispensary.
Reports state that a man reported to Ada
police that a previous employee, identified
as Cochran, had given an unidentified male
some marijuana on October 27, 2020. The
male didn’t pay for the weed.
The man showed an officer a video of the
male waiting inside the business while Cochran filled two plastic baggies with marijuana. She put the baggies in a white bag and
handed it to the male. She also gave the male
two 30 dram pop top vials of medical marijuana. The man explained that the vials had fallen on the floor and were supposed to be sent to waste disposal since they couldn’t be sold due to being
on the ground.
The officer asked the man if he had the full video to make sure the male
didn’t give any money to Cochran.
The man returned to the station on December 7, but he didn’t have the full
video. On the partial video, Cochran could be heard saying, “Hey, come here.
These are the ones that fall on the ground. Well, they fall off…(undistinguishable talking)” when she gave the male the vials.
The man estimated that Cochran gave away approximately $280 worth of
marijuana. He emailed the officer transactions from that day –no transactions
were more than $102.
Cochran is being charged with embezzlement. She was released on a
$2,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on March 11, 2021.

OK Jailbirds is cooperating with the efforts of Oklahoma Department of Human Services to impact the huge
social problem of irresponsible parents who are not paying the child supports ordered by our courts.
If these biological-only parents won’t honor the courts order, perhaps public shame will get their attention.

Child Support HotLine at 1-800-522-8014
Importance of Child Support
Children are our future and child support helps make sure they have a chance at a productive life. Children have the right to get
support from both parents and do not lose this right when a parent leaves the home.
When children do not receive child support, they can:
Suffer both Emotionally and Physically
Live within a Reduced Standard of Living
Have their Basic Needs Unmet
Become Non-Supportive when they become Parents.
When one or both parents do not support their children, taxpayers often pay the cost of raising children. When children receive
public assistance and their parents pay no child support, all taxpayers bear the cost of supporting the children.

Presumed Innocent Until Proven Guilty PONTOTOC COUNTY 13 | FEBRUARY 2021
Every year, approximately 1.5 million high school students nationwide experience physical abuse from a dating partner. It is also known that 3 in 4
parents have never talked to their children about domestic violence. In light
of these alarming facts, every year during the month of February advocates
join efforts to raise awareness about dating violence, highlight promising practices, and encourage communities to get involved.
There are many resources available to provide information and support to
victims and assist service providers and communities to decrease the prevalence of dating violence among young people. Anyone can make this happen
by raising awareness about the issue, saying something about abuse when
you see it and organizing your community to make a difference. Take Action!
Learn About Teen Dating Violence
Teen dating violence (TDV) is defined as a pattern of abuse or threat of
abuse against teenaged dating partners, occuring in different forms, including verbal, emotional, physical, sexual and digital. TDV occurs across diverse
groups and cultures.
Although the dynamics of TDV are similar to adult domestic violence, the
forms and experience of TDV, as well as the challenges in seeking and providing services, make the problem of TDV unique.
The National Resource Center on Domestic Violence and VAWnet have
developed an Online Special Collection: Preventing and Responding to Teen
Dating Violence. Recently updated, this Special Collection emphasizes collaborative and multilevel approaches to the prevention of and response to teen
dating violence. This year’s updates include additional resources for teachers
and school-based professionals and a new section to support the efforts of
pregnancy prevention advocates and adolescent sexual health practitioners
in addressing adolescent relationship abuse.

The victim of a car theft was probably elated to see that his vehicle was returned to his
residence until he realized that the suspect
was sleeping in the passenger seat.
According to the affidavit, the victim reported that his white Chevy Impala had been
taken from his address in the 100 block of N.
East Street sometime between 10 p.m. and 4
a.m. On December 28, Konawa officers were
advised that the stolen vehicle had been returned. Sleeping in the passenger seat was
26-year-old Douglas Clinton Weber.
Officers went to the location at approximately 5:50 a.m. They woke up Weber
and placed him in handcuffs. When officers
searched the man, he advised that he had a
syringe in his pocket.
Officers retrieved the syringe. They also found some spoons with a white
crystallized substance and a pocketknife in the vehicle.
In Weber’s backpack, they found a ski mask, a baggie containing a leafy
green substance, an Oklahoma license plate, spray paint that matched some
paint found on the car’s front right rim, a container with a label that said “White
Fire OG 50% Sativa 50% Indica,” and some other miscellaneous items. They
also found a 30-day temporary tag in the man’s possession – the dates had
been altered.
The man told investigators that he wanted to apologize to the victim. The
victim agreed.
Weber said he was sorry that the vehicle was stolen. He said that the keys
were always left in the ignition and the doors were unlocked.
Weber explained that a man had told him about the unlocked vehicle a
couple of days before.
Weber is being charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and possession
of a controlled dangerous substance. His bond was set at $10,000, and he is
scheduled to appear in court on February 4, 2021.

We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money
or favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting officer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.
Thank you and God Bless

back on the grid
An aggravated sex offender who was on
probation and wanted in four counties, turned
himself into Johnston County on January 26.
Reports state Rush Springs man Johnny
Wade Simmons, 37, was released from prison in June 2020 to serve a suspended sentence. He was supposed to register as a sex
offender and register with a sex offender officer.
Well, he didn’t, and instead went off the
grid. A warrant was issued for his arrest
through Grady County in November 2020.
In September 2020, Cleveland County
charged Simmons with domestic assault and
strangulation. Two months later, the man was
also charged with failure to register as a sex
offender.
Simmons had warrants for his arrest in four counties: Grady, Bryan, Cleveland, and Johnston.
The weekend before Simmons turned himself in, Johnston County deputies
found a stolen truck parked on school grounds. The truck was connected to
Simmons. Inside the vehicle were meth, blank checks, a printer, wallets, IDs,
some license plates, and some wigs.
Simmons has been convicted on multiple charges and has been in and
out of prison for two decades. He also escaped from a correctional facility in
2018.
In Johnston County, Simmons is being charged with possession of forged
instruments, falsely personate another to create liability, knowingly concealing
stolen property, obstructing an officer, and possession of drug paraphernalia. His bond was set at $75,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on
February 22, 2021.
According to reports, after appearing in court in Johnston County, he will
face charges in the other three counties.
