A sword-wielding Shawnee man was arrested Feb. 5 after he was arrested for assaulting a woman in an apartment he had
previously been banned from.
According to the police report, Shawnee
police were dispatched to an apartment in
the 300 block of S. Kennedy. When they arrived, they heard screaming and shouting
and saw a man kicking the door of an apartment while holding a sword.
While running up the stairs to the apartment, worried residents shouted, “He’s got a
sword, you’d better hurry!”
As the officer approached the apartment, he could hear yelling
coming from inside. When he knocked, the yelling stopped, and a
woman opened the door. She was in tears and hysterical and told the
officer that Christopher Lee Corey, 31, was inside the apartment with
a sword. She added that her two young daughters were in the back
bedroom.
The officer entered the apartment, and after multiple commands,
finally coaxed Corey to come out of hiding.
Corey was detained in the living room. The officer found the girls
in the back bedroom, who were both visibly upset.
The victim told the officer that Corey had come to her apartment,
threw a lap at her and strangled her. She said she tried to get away
from him and a struggle ensued, that included him dragging her
back into the apartment. She said police had banned Corey from her
apartment.
Police found the sword in the living room closet.
Corey is being charged with domestic abuse, assault and battery
with a dangerous weapon and trespassing after being forbidden. He
is being held on a $20,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court
on March 4, 2014.

McClain
A routine traffic stop resulted in
the arrest of a Shawnee man who
tried to hide his illegal items from
police by leaving them in the car.
A Pottawatomie County deputy
was on patrol Feb. 4, on Dunbar
Street, when he noticed that the
vehicle in front of him had a nonworking centered mounted third
brake light, the affidavit states.
The officer activated his lights and
conducted a traffic stop.
While speaking with the driver,
the deputy recognized the passenger, Avery Eugene McClain, 58, from previous contact in reference
to illegal narcotics.
The driver gave the deputy permission to search the vehicle. Another deputy arrived to assist and as McClain exited the vehicle, the
deputy saw him drop an object from his left hand into the front seat.
The deputy also saw a syringe in a container that was sitting in the
front floorboard beneath where McClain’s feet had been.
A deputy detained McClain and requested consent to search McClain’s person. McClain gave the deputy permission; in McClain’s
left front pant pocket, the deputy found an empty baggie.
The deputy also retrieved the item that he saw McClain drop as
he exited the vehicle. He found a bag containing a substance that
tested positive for meth. The deputy also retrieved the syringe and
container. The container had a white crystal residue in the bottom.
McClain is being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. His
bond was set at $6,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on
March 18, 2014.

Heroin and Happy meals
A woman charged with selling heroin hidden in
Happy Meals when she worked for a Pittsburgh,
PA., McDonalds is “emotionally crushed” by the
charges.
But defense attorney David Shrager stopped
short of denying the charges against 26-yearold Shantia Dennis, of East Pittsburgh.
Dennis’ preliminary hearing was reset for
April 9 so Allegheny County prosecutors can
get back crime lab tests on the alleged drugs
involved.
Dennis was arrested Jan. 29 after police say
they caught her selling 10 doses of heroin hidden
inside a Happy Meal to a confidential informant.
Investigators said they also recovered more
heroin from Dennis.
Authorities say Dennis would sell the drugs to drive-thru customers who
uttered the code words, “I’d like to order a toy.”

Pruitt Convenes Oklahoma’s First
Human Trafficking Task Force
Oklahoma Attorney General
Scott Pruitt convened the state’s
first law enforcement task force to
combat human trafficking in Oklahoma.
The Human Trafficking Intelligence Working Group provides
a forum for local, state and federal law enforcement officers to share
information and collaborate in the investigation and prosecution of human traffickers.
“What citizens want to see is action. They want to see us work together
to do something about a very pervasive issue,” General Pruitt said. “The
reality is human trafficking isn’t just a problem in foreign lands; it’s a
real and dangerous threat in Oklahoma. I appreciate the agencies who
have committed to being a part of the working group and thank them for
their efforts to investigate and prosecute those who would deprive others of their freedom. By working together, we can set a great example for
other law enforcement groups across the nation, and help combat this
despicable crime.”
The task force includes more than 30 law enforcement agencies, including the AG’s Office, the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Control, the FBI, Oklahoma City Police, Tulsa Police, the
Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation,
Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office, tribal law enforcement and the U.S. Attorneys Office.
General Pruitt assembled the group after discussions with officers
around the state and through consultation with the AG’s Multicounty
Grand Jury Unit.
“We’re here to determine, ‘What’s the problem, how do we attack it
and what’s our approach.’ We are going to use everything we can to combat this. It’s too important not to,” OBN Director Darrell Weaver said.
Human trafficking involves sex trafficking and labor trafficking. It is
estimated that more than 14,000 people are victims of human trafficking
in the United States each year.
If you are a victim of human trafficking or know of someone who may
be a victim, call the Safeline at 1-800-522-SAFE (7233).

The Bible clearly teaches that
Christians are not to worry.
In Philippians 4:6, we are
commanded, “Do not be anxious
[do not worry] about anything,
but in everything, by prayer
and petition, with thanksgiving,
present your requests to God.” In
this Scripture, we learn that we
should bring all of our needs and
concerns to God in prayer rather
than worry about them. Jesus
encourages us to avoid worrying
about our physical needs like
clothing and food. Jesus assures us
that our heavenly Father will take
care of all our needs (Matthew 6:25-34). Therefore, we have no need
to worry about anything.
Since worrying should not be a part of a believer’s life, how does
one overcome worry? In 1 Peter 5:7, we are instructed to “cast all
your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” God does not want us
to carry around the weight of problems and burdens. In this verse,
God is telling us to give Him all of our worries and concerns. Why
does God want to take on our problems? The Bible says it is because
He cares for us. God is concerned about everything that happens
to us. No worry is too big or too small for His attention. When we
give God our problems, He promises to give us the peace which
transcends all understanding (Philippians 4:7).
Of course, for those who do not know the Savior, worry and
anxiety will be part of life. But to those who have given their lives
to Him, Jesus promised, “Come to me, all you who are weary and
burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn
from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest
for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light” (Matthew
11:28-30).

OK Jailbirds is cooperating with the efforts of Oklahoma Department of Human Services to impact the huge
social problem of irresponsible parents who are not paying the child supports ordered by our courts.
If these biological-only parents won’t honor the courts order, perhaps public shame will get their attention.
If you know how to reach any of the Deadbeat Parents found on this page, please call the Oklahoma Department of Human Services
Child Support HotLine at 1-800-522-8014
Importance of Child Support
Children are our future and child support helps make sure they
have a chance at a productive life. Children have the right to get
support from both parents and do not lose this right when a
parent leaves the home.
When children do not receive child support, they can:
Suffer both Emotionally and Physically
Live within a Reduced Standard of Living
Have their Basic Needs Unmet
Become Non-Supportive when they become Parents.
When one or both parents do not support their children,
taxpayers often pay the cost of raising children. When children
receive public assistance and their parents pay no child support,
all taxpayers bear the cost of supporting the children.

What you’re saying
about this on...
Rachel W: And he’s smiling.. What a
creep.
Dene G: No remorse on his face wow
people today are sick
Eddy C: Still Drunk... He’ll fell different when he sobers up… Maybe not... But, I
had a friend that was THE nicest guy ever
sober... Started drinking tequila... and was
MEAN and Violent... And would not remember any of it the next day… People react to different stuff differently… He might
not even remember it, which is no excuse,
because he made the choice to drink.
Ashley P: What kinda drugs is he on?
No remorse. Even a smile. Mentally ill or
super high. Either way, I bet he has shown
signs of this before. Lets stop giving repeat
drug offenders all the chances in the world.
Mmmkaaaay?
Eddy C: He was Drunk.
Melanie P: And possibly a knife..
Michael B: get a rope and a tall
tree, its a lot cheaper than prison
Heather W: *riding
Lesley A: Death penalty!!
Jay T: SKATE OR DIE!!
Flo C: no remorse on his face
Jaslyn H: SHAME on you, grow the
hell up, you’re an adult not a child.
Phyillis P: Death penalty. We need to
get tough with creeps like this
Lanie G: He could have been defending his sister from a freak . Case if I killed
saving my sis I’d be smiling my way to hell.
(:
Rusty A: Doubt he was defending her
since it says he stabbed her in the stomach…
Scott F: Reading comprehension is
key here, Lanie. The guy attacked his sister and murdered another, and needs to be
dealt with appropriately.
Deborah J: Who stab the sister?....
Castro or Mendoza???
Will T: read what it said. it was his
brother in law he killed and he stabbed his
sister..!!
Andrea G: Yeah he won’t be smiling
once the booze and drugs wear off. Dumb
ass
Jerry M: A lot of people have been
drunk and dont kill people. Its no excuse.
Johnny P: That’s easy to say until its
u lol
Megan N: You’re kidding, right?
Travis N: Probley protecting his
sis, none of u was there to say, besides men
tend to beat woman often
Police said they have one man behind bars after they found
a man dead in the street, beaten with a baseball bat and a
skateboard.
Tulsa police arrested 28-year-old Pedro Castro after they
said he left his brother-in-law dead in the driveway.
Authorities said they believe Castro murdered 34-year-old
Juan Mendoza with a skateboard, baseball bat and possibly
a knife.
Tulsa authorities said they arrested Castro about 10 minutes after they arrived when they found him ridding the same skateboard allegedly used in the fight.
Police said the altercation started as an argument between Castro and his
sister.
Officers said he stabbed her in the stomach and hand.
Alcohol may have fueled this altercation; police said Castro was intoxicated.

A Konawa man was arrested Feb. 9,
after a speedy drive through town that
resulted in a large splash and a soaked
man.
According to the affidavit, a Konawa
police officer was sitting in the parking
lot of a gas station in the 400 block of E.
Main Street, when a black vehicle sped
through the gas pumps, driving through
a large amount of water. The driver of
the vehicle was going so fast that he
caused a large amount of water to splash
a man standing at the pumps.
The officer activated her emergency equipment and made contact
with the driver, Sam Edward Brake, 54.
As she approached the vehicle, she could smell the odor of alcohol
coming from the vehicle and Brake’s person.
She asked Brake if he had been drinking; he told her no. She then
asked what had happened at the gas station and Brake said that the
throttle on his vehicle had been stuck. The officer asked Brake again
if he had been drinking; he continued to deny drinking alcohol. She
then asked Brake to exit his vehicle and sit in the patrol car.
After dispatched advised that Brake was free of warrants, the officer told Brake that she was going to perform standard field sobriety
tests on him. After failing the tests, the officer retrieved a breathalyzer; Brake blew a .093.
Brake then admitted to drinking but only two beers.
The officer placed Brake under arrest and transported him to jail.
Brake is being charged with driving a motor vehicle while under
the influence of alcohol. He was released on a $5,000 bond and is
scheduled to appear in court on March 4, 2014.
Brake arrested for
failing to use brakes

A man and woman were arrested while police were serving
another individual with an arrest warrant on Feb. 14 in a Seminole trailer park.
According to the affidavit, when Seminole County deputies arrived to arrest the wanted man, they saw a car parked in front of
his residence that was occupied by two subjects.
A deputy made contact with the front seat passenger, 30-yearold Colt Dalton Gibson of Konawa. Gibson told the officer that
they were just waiting on the man that was being arrested to
come out of the residence because they were supposed to go to
work.
After placing the man under arrest, the deputy went back
to the vehicle and asked Gibson and the backseat passenger,
34-year-old Matilda Faulkner of Wewoka, to exit the vehicle.
The deputy noticed Faulkner moving around a lot before exiting the car.
The deputy saw a loaded syringe with a clear liquid and a
green tourniquet in the front passenger floorboard. He placed
Gibson and Faulkner in handcuffs.
The deputy conducted a search of the vehicle. In the back
seat where Faulkner had been sitting, under a pile of clothes,
the deputy found another syringe with a clear liquid inside of a
jacket pocket.
Faulkner told the deputy that none of it, including the car, belonged to her.
The deputy asked her if she had any track marks from using;
Faulkner put her head down and said yes.
Before being placed in the patrol car, both subjects were asked
if they had any illegal items on their person. Both said no.
During booking, police found a clear plastic baggy containing a white powder that fieldtested positive for meth on the floor where Gibson and Faulkner had been sitting.
Both subjects are being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance,
bringing contraband items into jail and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Faulkner
was released on a $10,000 bond. Gibson is being held on a $20,000 bond.
They are both scheduled to appear in court on March 6, 2014.

George Stanley left for work. Hogan met Lisa
in church and she often babysat for Hogan
and his wife. Hogan arrived at Lisa’s house
around noon. Hogan and Lisa began to argue,
and Hogan stabbed her 25 times with a large knife, cutting his
hand in the process. After the stabbing, Hogan remained in the
apartment and arranged things to look as if someone else had been
fi ghting with Lisa and burned the evidence containing his blood.
After initially avoiding detectives, Hogan confessed a week later
during an interview with the Oklahoma City Police Department.
He confessed after being advised his wife had told police that
Hogan had asked her to lie about his whereabouts on the day of
the murder. According to detectives, the defendant showed no
remorse.
Prior to this case, Hogan committed lewd molestation of a minor
and various burglaries. He also enlisted a minor to sell marijuana
and threatened coworkers and their families.
Hogan was initially convicted and sentenced to death in 1988.
After successful federal appeals, Hogan was retried and again
sentenced to death in 2003.
“Kenneth Eugene Hogan was sentenced to death by a jury of his
peers for the heinous stabbing of Lisa Renee Stanley, who was
a young wife and a promising student,” Attorney General Scott
Pruitt said. “My thoughts and prayers are with Lisa’s family and
friends.”

GRAND LARCENY FROM

Lately I’ve noticed that a lot
of the motoring public is having
trouble properly signaling for, and making turns. I’ve also noticed,
that when people do properly signal and make turns, a lot of others
who are in a hurry, seem to not pay attention to those signals or
turns, resulting in a lot of near-hits and actual accidents...some
with very tragic consequences. Today I’m going to talk about how
to properly signal, prepare for and execute turns on the roadway,
as well some common sense for those drivers who are in too much
of a hurry to slow down for those turning.
First, lets address state law on signaling. Oklahoma State
Statutes Title 47-11-601 and 11-604 outline the requirements for
turning movements and required signals, but the short version is
this. When turning left you must position yourself as close to the
left side of the furthest left lane of travel in your direction, and must
turn to the closest lane to you. Don’t cut the corner! When turning
right, you must position yourself as close to the right hand curb or
edge of the roadway, and also turn to the closest lane to you!
Now that we know the proper positions, lets talk about those
signals. A signal to turn right or left is required to be given
continuously for not less than the last 100 feet traveled by the
vehicle before turning. Furthermore, no person shall stop or
suddenly decrease speed without FIRST giving an appropriate
signal! How many times have you seen a vehicle slow down in
front of you for a long way, and then turn on the blinker just as they
start their turn? How many times have you done it?
Lastly, lets talk about other driver’s requirements after a
vehicle has done everything proper in preparing and signaling
for a turn. The last part of 47-11-604 says that when any person
is properly preparing for, attempting or executing a left turn, no
other person immediately following such vehicle shall pass or
attempt to pass the turning vehicle to the left. Such person shall
come to a complete stop if necessary at a safe distance behind that
person turning. Also, it is unlawful to pass this turning vehicle on
the shoulder to the right as well.
So if you are coming up on a vehicle that is slowing, ask yourself,
why are they slowing or stopping? Is someone in front of them
turning? Is something going on that I would need to reduce speed
for as well? This is what a safe and courteous driver would do, but
all to often, people zip out to pass those slowed vehicles, and end
up having a vehicle turn right in front of them, with disastrous
results! Please, use your blinkers properly, make proper turns,
and don’t be in such a hurry! Thanks for reading, buckle up, and
be safe!

True. Most sexual assaults are committed by
someone of the same race as the victim. An exception
to this is that people who commit sexual assault
against Native Americans are usually not Native
American (American Indians and Crime, 1999).

A Wetumka couple was taken to jail after a traffic stop
that included the woman dancing around with her coat
over her head.
On Feb. 11, a Wetumka police officer was on patrol near
Highway 9 and Main Street when he saw a vehicle turn
without using a signal, the affidavit states.
He activated his lights, pulling the vehicle over, and
made contact with the driver, later identified as Sonya
Lynn Cupps, 46.
There was also a passenger in the car, identified as Jeffrey Marlin Cupps, 42.
While checking the subjects’ information in his patrol
vehicle, the officer noticed that both subjects kept moving
around in their car and Jeffrey Cupps kept leaning forward
in his seat.
The officer returned to the vehicle and asked Sonya
Cupps to step out of the vehicle. She obliged, but pulled her
coat over her head and began waving her arms around wildly.
The officer asked if she was OK. She said yes, she had just taken a muscle relaxer earlier that day. She continued dancing around in her muscle relaxer-induced state. The officer
asked if she had anything on her that he needed to know about. She said no, and the officer
asked for permission to search the vehicle. She told him she didn’t care.
The officer told her to sit on the curb; at that time, she told him she had a marijuana pipe
in her purse.
The officer went to the passenger side of the vehicle, and asked Jeffrey Cupps to step out of
the vehicle. The officer also asked him if he had any drugs or weapons on his person. Jeffrey
Cupps admitted that there was a loaded pistol and a large knife under the seat and a bottle
of pills in his pocket.
The officer retrieved the items; he also found a baggy of a crystal like substance that tested
positive for meth in Sonya Cupps’s purse and another pipe with a white residue.
Sonya Cupps is being charged with two counts of possession of a controlled dangerous
substance.
Jeffrey Cupps is being charged with two counts of possession of a controlled dangerous
substance and possession of a firearm after former conviction of a felony. They were both
released on a $2,500 bonds and are scheduled to appear in court on March 4, 2014.

A Tulsa man has been convicted and sentenced to 35 years for child abuse and
pornography, following an investigation by the Attorney General’s Internet crimes agent
and the state’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
Aaron Leon Howk, 26, pleaded guilty to seven felonies, five counts of distributing
child pornography and single counts of sexual abuse of a child and manufacturing child
pornography.
In accordance with a plea agreement, a Tulsa County judge sentenced Howk to 35
years in prison for the sexual abuse, which involved a family member. The victim was 4
years old when the abuse occurred.
Howk must serve at least 85 percent of his 35-year prison term before becoming
eligible for parole. He received concurrent 20-year terms on the pornography counts.
On March 28, a search warrant was served at Howk’s residence by task force members from the AG’s
Office, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation ICAC Unit, the OSBI Computer Crimes Unit and the
Edmond, Guthrie and Tulsa police departments.
While conducting the investigation, AG’s investigators received a cybertip from the National Center
for Missing and Exploited Children, alleging Howk was distributing child pornography on an online
photo sharing site. FBI agents also contacted investigators with information about Howk trading child
pornography online.
“Oklahoma families face a real and growing threat from Internet predators. By investigating and
prosecuting these types of crimes, we are sending a clear message that the abuse of our most vulnerable
will not be tolerated,” Attorney General Scott Pruitt said. “The Internet crimes task force has been a great
success, and my office will continue to work with local law enforcement to safeguard Oklahoma families.”
The Oklahoma Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force includes more than 60 partner agencies,
including the OSBI and the Attorney General’s Office. Members are specially trained to investigate the
exploitation of children through the use of technology.
